After I cured the rest of the servants, Martha lead them out to safety and, following Luther's lead, we continued on to look for the next group of prisoners.
This appeared to be Lord Amon's residence, judging from the sigils on the tapestries. It was quite ostentatious, which wasn't surprising considering how willing his house was to sell out to Halja and the Khaos Brigade.
As we were about to turn a corner, I heard footsteps and signalled to hide against the wall.
I heard Diodora's voice conversing with another. Even the voice of that slime is riling me up.
"I assure you. My servants will take care of those intruders."
You certainly assured wrong. The other older-sounding voice seemed to agree with my sentiment.
"Unless I'm mistaken, you faced the White Dragon Emperor yourself and lost. He won't go down that easily."
"W- Where did you hear about that incident!?"
"I hear things… You'd best watch your step, or he will be the least of your worries. I'm going to deal with Gremory. You make sure he doesn't get to the rest of the prisoners."
"Understood…" Diodora responded spitefully.
"Ahab Amon…" I muttered. "Time is running out. We need to hurry."
I heard Ahab go on ahead of Diodora.
"I know a different route. We shouldn't run into him there…" Luther said.
We went in a separate direction than what he initially intended to after turning the corner.
We were getting close as I could see an imposing set of doors ahead of us.
"This is it," he said.
However, eight hooded figures then suddenly got the drop on us and surrounded us.
"Well, well, well! Look who fell for my trap!"
"Diodora!" I exclaimed.
"These may be Pawns but they are already promoted to replace those poor girls you defeated."
"What I did is free them from your curse!" I sneered.
"As long as they are alive, my pets will still be mine! Speaking of which; Luther, be a good boy and come back to me and I may forget this little infraction you made."
He stretched out his hand like the pompous asshole he is.
Luther scoffed. "I'm your 'boy?' and I thought we were friends…"
"Listen here you fucking traitor!" Diodora snapped. "I saved you from that burning church and this is the thanks I get!?"
"What thanks did you give me!?" Asia barked back. "I was cast out for helping you and you did nothing!"
Diodora ground his teeth violently and exclaimed "Kill them all!" before darting away.
"You won't get away!" I exclaimed. "BALANCE BREAK!"
I transformed into my Balance Breaker. The burst of energy caused all the Pawns to stagger.
With that opening. I continued my charge as the rest of them fought off the Pawns… until I felt a menacing presence behind me that was quickly intercepted by Rahab.
"Hey! You interrupted my touching reunion with Angelface!" Freed exclaimed.
"Hardly touching!" Rahab remarked as her blade clashed with the black-and-red blade that Freed gotten his hands on.
"I may have lost my Excalibur-chan, but Arondight is more than enough to beat your little sword!"
I continued to bolt off after Diodora while they were fighting. I hastily took off my watch and threw it in Rahab's direction. Hopefully she finds it useful.
"Oh wow!" I said as we approached the mansion in the plains of my family's territory.
"The same architect who designed Lady Gabriel's home designed this," my brother said. "She was quite familiar with the type of architecture Heaven's citizens would be comfortable with."
"Quite considerate. Especially for a devil." Sister Griselda commented.
We entered the building and were immediately met by several robed figures. I assume they were heavenly spirits as they were ghostlike in appearance.
One of them gasped. "Sister Griselda! It's been so long! I didn't know you would be here!"
Koneko and I observed around us as they chatted. I could distinctly hear people singing.
"Wow…" Koneko exclaimed.
"You don't get this everyday in the Underworld," I commented.
"Even more reason for us to combine our cultures," my brother said. "Even for me, it's uplifting."
We then heard a deep screech of a beast from outside. I shielded Koneko, but I was slightly relieved when the person who entered was Sairaorg, along with several others.
"What's going on?" I asked him.
"We found prisoners that Lord Amon had taken. Makoto helped us free them along with some girls that had been brainwashed by Diodora."
A couple of the latter appeared to go towards Sister Griselda.
"We'll take care of them from here. You go back and get some rest," my brother said to him.
"Our job's not done yet. There are still others that we are going back for. We aren't out of the woods yet, I'm afraid…"
He hastily walked out.
"We must be cautious. Lord Amon might not be willing to part ways with his prisoners without a fight," my brother said as Sairaorg left.
I continued my clash with Freed.
"You are quite a naughty traitor, little Rahab, you know that!?" he taunted me.
"You're one to talk!" I fired back.
His technique was crude, but Arondight's sheer power more than compensated. I had to be on my toes to defend against this force with just my Holy Demonic Sword.
"We are not the same. You chose the path of 'righteousness,'" he said in a mocking tone. "I chose the path that's fun!"
As I struggled against his sword and was continuously pushed back, I noticed a glint in my eye.
On the floor next to me was the wristwatch that Makoto wore! Specifically, the one that he transformed "Exscalon" into!
Now's my chance!
I narrowly ducked to dodge a fierce swing and grabbed the watch.
"It's over!" he yelled. "I have the high ground now!" as he made a swing at me.
As he did that, I swung back, transforming the watch into Exscalon and cutting the arm he attacked with clean off and sent his sword flying into the air!
He made an uncomfortably annoying screech as I caught Arondight in one hand and had Exscalon pointed at him with the other.
He then started laughing. "Tis but a scratch! Don't think you've won just yet!"
"Don't you start quoting Monty Python. You've lost, freak."
I saw several flashes of light in the others' direction.
"Where did they go!?" Lint exclaimed as the only people around them were two of the now incapacitated Pawns.
I continued my chase of Diodora. I followed him into a bedroom as he went out onto the balcony and leapt out, landing out in the front entrance.
I followed suit as I noticed he stopped running. What is his plan?
"Give up, Diodora!"
I spoke too soon as six others suddenly fired at once at me, knocking me back. They all flashed red.
Diodora laughed. "You are the one who should be giving up. It is not just you and me anymore, but also my six remaining Pawns promoted to Queen!"
"I'll take them easily, you creep!"
I then heard someone else.
"I would get take cover if I were you, Makoto!"
I noticed several familiar demonic sigils on the ground, and I had little more than a split second to leap backwards, as several explosions went off around us!
I got knocked around a bit, but my Balance Breaker took it like a champ. The Pawns, however, were knocked right out.
Diodora was also very much winded by the attack, even after shielding himself.
I looked up and saw a robed woman in the sky with her devil wings, right next to…
"Riser!" Diodora exclaimed loudly.
"You should be thanking me," he said. "I made sure Yubelluna caused minimal damage to your Pawns. Also, tell Lord Amon when you meet him in prison that we're now even."
As he said this, several of his other servants teleported in, surrounding Diodora. He did, in fact, have two nekomatas in his peerage along with a pair of twins with chainsaws(!?).
As I caught my breath, I said to Riser, "Thanks, but don't ever do that again."
"Anything for my rival."
As Sairaorg came back with Vernoi, a group of officers teleported in. "Diodora Astaroth. You are under arrest."
His hands were suddenly restrained as handcuffs were teleported onto him.
"Damn you, White Dragon Emperor…" he grumbled.
I shook my head and told him, "A man's gotta know his limitations."
Rahab came up to me along with the others and handed me back my sword. "It was definitely disarming. Thanks for finally letting me have another whirl with it."
"That sword you got off Freed looks pretty good too."
One of the officers came up to me. "We will take care of freeing the rest of the captives. Do you know where Lord Ahab is?"
"He went after Rias. We have to catch up to him before it's too late."
As the freed captives were being fed by the New Heaven staff, my brother and I along with Koneko, Gabriel, and Sister Griselda went up the entrance.
"How long do you think do we have until Lord Amon finds us?" I asked my brother.
"Not long. Even if he wasn't able to follow that dragon, this would probably the first place he would look to find the prisoners."
"You would be correct…"
There was an indigo glow as Ahab Amon teleported in outside the entrance after having said that.
"You have a few things that belong to me," he continued, pointing his staff at us. "I want them back…"
"They were not yours to begin with, Lord Amon!" I replied.
"You are trespassing on this land," Sister Griselda said to him. "Leave now and I won't exorcise you where you stand!"
"Where I am standing, it looks like some Heaven-folk are trespassing on our land…" he said, stretching out his arm to fire an intense purple surge of demonic magic at us.
My brother, Ms. Gabriel, and Sister Griselda shielded against the attack, but we were all still taken aback.
"That power…" my brother exclaimed.
"The staff of Longinus. You may have encountered its other half when facing my wife."
He made a motion and we were all suddenly pushed to either side, isolating Koneko.
"Give them up now or this little girl won't get hurt."
She unsealed her nekomata form and fired off a massive golden senjutsu attack at Lord Amon, knocking him back.
"Who are you calling a little girl?"
"I apologize. I misjudged you…" he said to her. "But not for long!"
"Koneko!" I exclaimed as I rushed to shield her from his attack… However, someone else beat me to the punch in a flash of light.
"Keep your filthy hands off my sister!" Kuroka said.
"So… You escaped…" Lord Amon said.
Kuroka unleashed the combined force of demonic magic and senjutsu at Lord Amon, who narrowly dissipated it with his Staff of Longinus.
"You intend to murder me just like you did your master?"
"I did not murder him. I did it to protect Shirone… no… to protect little Koneko from people like you who conduct ruthless experiments on the innocent!"
He got furious and fired at Kuroka in retaliation, which she blocked and continued the back and forth.
Me and my brother were about to face him as well, but Koneko rushed forward and attacked alongside her sister, blindsiding him yet again.
"You little pest!" His noble façade was just about gone at this point.
He was about to attack Koneko, but the two of them nodded at each other and launched a joint attack at Ahab, who was knocked over and dropped his staff.
He reached for the staff, but Kuroka placed her foot on it to deny it from him.
As this happened, a yellow dragon appeared with Makoto, Riser, Sairaorg and the rest of the freed captives.
At the same time, officers appeared to arrest him.
"You are under arrest for unlawful imprisonment and trespassing."
"You may have been able to overcome my power, but you will now have to overcome my lawyers…"
"We will see…" I replied.
As this was happening, I noticed Milcom had appeared along with his two servants.
"Of which is now under my control." he said. "I was the one who informed the authorities of you and Diodora's doings…"
"You insolent…" Ahab jeered. "First Rahab and now you."
"I'll explain myself in the prison," he turned his back on his father as he was teleported out.
"Are you okay, dear?" Akeno asked me while we were all in the police station waiting room. "You look a bit singed…"
"Actually, that was Riser Phenex's doing," I said. "He had his Queen carpet bomb Diodora after he tried to ambush me with six of his Pawns."
"Oh, that's terrible… Next time I get the chance, I will punish that Bomb Queen myself…"
"T- There's no need. It was more annoying than anything."
"This may not be the best place to mention this, but my big brother was the one who tipped us off," Rahab said to me as I was trying to stop Akeno from going on a rampage against Yubelluna.
"Of course, he did, that revolving door."
Ajuka then re-entered the room along with another blonde-haired girl.
"How did it go, Lady Latia?" Rias asked the girl.
She sighed. "About as well as expected. I knew he would throw a fit when I told him the family had revoked his title and made me heir in his place."
"It was about time…" Ajuka said. He placed his arm on Latia's shoulder. "You will do great, niece."
"I must apologize to you two for the trouble Diodora has caused," she said to me and Asia.
Asia nodded.
"That was more than what I would get from Diodora, so thank you…"
"We're slowly stopping the corruption in our nobility," said Sirzechs as he entered with Serafall. "We now need to find where Iblis went off to along with whoever led those Sacred Gear experiments and we'll be that much closer to Iblis' doorstep."
"Also, Makoto, I know this is last minute, but I have a gig for you." Serafall said to me.
"I'm listening…"
"I bet your father will be thrilled to see you after that stunt," Enrico told me as I approached the visiting room.
"Once I explain, maybe it will be a little less tense…" I replied to him.
"Let's hope so," Jin commented.
I showed my visitor's ID to the guard, and he granted me access.
"Someone has some explaining to do…" my father said as he was sitting in the chair across the table.
"I will make this quick. Lady Halja set this up."
"Did she now?" Father mused.
"She wanted the devils to think they were winning, so we can plan a breakout and make our next move… one that may take the Demon Lords out of the picture."
"I like that last part…" he said.
"Hang in here a while. We have enough connections here to keep you comfortable before they let you out. And, by the way, Freed did get that replacement arm."
"So, I guess there are no hard feelings after all from what happened to your mother," Father said as I was about to head out. "You didn't get any pleasure whatsoever from finally bringing me to justice?"
I paused.
"…None at all…"
And it was then when I, Miracle Levia-tan, came face to face with my latest foe!
The Golden Dragon King!
"Give up, Levia-tan! Your attacks stand no chance against my barriers!" she said.
This is bad. The Golden Dragon can redirect all my attacks and bring the offense in equal measure!
"You leave me no choice!" but to unleash my biggest technique yet.
I pointed "Miracle! Big! Ban-"
But before I could call out my attack, the Golden Dragon was caught in a blast of bright light and knocked down.
"What!? Impossible!" she exclaimed as she got up.
"I am Makkun, master of the Vanishing Dragon." the angelic attacker said, clad in white armor. "Your tyranny ends here!"
"Tch! I'll be back!" The Golden Dragon exclaimed as she suddenly vanished.
"I had her!" I yelled at Makkun.
"Then, you'd best be getting stronger, Levia-tan. Who will defeat the Legion of Chaos first, I wonder?"
"You really had to steal my thunder and become Lady Leviathan's new rival, did you, Makoto?" Aika said to me after the premiere of the new episode.
"Perhaps… She really had to make her cutesy nickname for me the name of the character, though…"
"The ratings were through the roof!" Serafall told us. "I knew I could count on you two!"
"No problem!" Aika said.
"Our new rivalry will be terrific!" Serafall said. "We might even have some romantic tension as well…"
"My, my. Lady Leviathan's trying to start an affair, I see?" Akeno chimed in.
"Don't worry, our actual relationship is purely professional!" Serafall joyfully reassured.
"Right…" I commented. Because I am definitely not building a harem of the most potent devils in the underworld.
Akeno giggled.
"You both were outstanding." Rias said. "If you are as good in a Rating Game as you are on TV, our opponents will be no match."
Aika chuckled. "That's a tall order…"
"Speaking of which, I met with my brother and Kuroka." Rias added. "The authorities have agreed to drop charges against her as long as she is under my service. After talking with her, I think she is truly on our side. She has risked her life twice to protect Koneko."
She turned towards Koneko. "You are okay with your sister joining us, now, right?"
She nodded. "I think I trust big sister Kuroka now…"
"She's quite powerful, though," I commented. "She would probably need two Bishops and we only have one left."
"This last one is a powerful mutation piece," she replied. "I think she is definitely a fitting candidate."
"Wait a second…" I exclaimed as I was counting on my fingers.
"Yes, that leaves one more piece for my peerage. My second Knight"
"I call dibs."
Rahab entered the room.
"Well, that was awfully quick of you." Rias said. "A short while ago you were against us."
"I would rather my unique blood used for your service than for my father or the Khaos Brigade. Not to mention I now have the holy sword that I believe used to be Lancelot's that you might find useful."
"I can vouch for her." I commented. "She is, at the very least, a firm anti-hero now…"
"She can stay as long as she no longer crashes my dates with Makoto." Akeno said.
"I pinky-swear not to ruin any more dates."
Akeno giggled. "I'll make sure you keep your word…"
Rahab looked intimidated. "You get used to her," I said. "She's a character."
And with that, her team is complete. Rias, Akeno, Yuuto, Rahab, Ravel, Kuroka, Koneko, Hagane, and, of course, Aika. She is now eligible for official Rating Games.
Meanwhile, I had the Queen, one Bishop, one Rook, and the Pawns left.
Kuroka entered the room and she and Rahab accepted their pieces.
"Are you really okay with her joining us?" I asked Koneko.
"I'm not sure," she said, "But at the very least, I trust her to help me learn senjutsu."
"I can teach you a thing or two as well~" Kuroka told me.
Koneko got in between us to defend my virginity.
"About senjutsu. Relax, sister. I heard how you used a form of it to purify Diodora's servants. Pretty impressive. I really take a liking to you."
"Makoto belongs to Akeno-senpai and that's final." Koneko said.
"Come on, sister. You know you have feelings for him as well."
Kuroka walked off and Koneko stormed away in a separate direction.
This sibling rivalry has a way's to go.
Meanwhile, with her peerage complete, Rias is ready to take on Sairaorg. I can't wait to see how this plays out.
