Chapter 34

Guardians

Two days have passed since the League of Villains started making moves to create a new plan to destroy the hero society. With the interference of the vigilante, Shadowstriker, and the number two hero, their plans have been derailed. Their package has disappeared into the forest covered by the dark sky. Currently, Class 1-A has just walked off a bus and now stands outside a motel.

"I thought that we would have a better place to stay. This place looks like a regular old motel," said Sero.

"We're just going to be protecting the island for a week. This isn't a vacation. You shouldn't expect anything special," said Ida.

"They could have booked us a hotel. We're future heroes after all," said Sero.

Ida walks a few feet ahead and turns around.

"There's no time to complain! We have to get inside and set up! We have islanders to protect!" exclaimed Ida.

Class 1-A enters the motel. They're surprised to see a bunch of desks with computers and phones on them.

"I guess we don't have to set up anything. They've done it for us," said Kirishima.

"I thought you guys would never come," said Joshua.

Class 1-A turns to see Joshua standing with a bowl of cereal in his hands.

"Joshua? Why are you here?" asked Izuku.

"I heard that you guys were coming to protect this island for a week, so I decided to come," said Joshua.

"Does the school even know that you're here? You've been absent for a couple days," said Ida.

"Maybe they know. Maybe they don't. I don't care if they know or not," said Joshua.

"Did you set all this up?" asked Mina.

"I arrived last night, so I decided to get to work and set up everything. We can start early now," said Joshua.

"I say that we should take the rest of the day off and-" said Kaminari.

"Thanks to Joshua's help, we can get an early start! Let's get to work!" exclaimed Ida.

Three hours pass. Class 1-A is now working hard to protect the citizens of Nabu Island. Ochaco receives a call.

"Hello. Nabu Island Hero Agency. How can I help you?" asked Ochaco.

"My little brother is missing and I can't find him," said the girl.

"I'll send someone to help," said Ochaco.

"Ok. Thank you," said the girl.

"Does anyone want to come with me? A boy is missing," said Ochaco.

"I'll pass," said Bakugo.

"What do you mean "I'll pass"? You're not doing anything," said Kirishima.

Bakugo puts his magazine down and scowls at Kirishima.

"I'll help," said Kirishima.

"How will your useless quirk be any useful at finding a little boy?" asked Bakugo.

"You know what. I'll pass as well," said Kirishima.

"I'll come. This place is starting to stink," said Joshua.

"I'll come too. My quirk will be very useful," said Jiro.

"Cool. Let's head out," said Ochaco.

Ochaco, Joshua, and Jiro walk out of the motel.

"This is going to take all day to find this boy on foot," said Jiro.

"Who said that we have to search for him on foot," said Joshua.

Joshua looks at his watch and presses the button. A hologram of his suit appears on his watch. He taps it and pieces of his suit fly and attaches to him.

"Take my hand. I'll fly us around the island," said Joshua.

Joshua puts both of his hands out.

"Will we get sick?" asked Jiro.

"As long as you skipped breakfast, you should be fine," said Joshua.

"Fine," said Jiro.

Jiro and Ochaco grab Joshua's hands.

"Hold on tight," said Joshua.

Joshua rockets into the sky. Ochaco and Jiro are barely able to hold onto the bumpy ride. They fly for six minutes until Joshua sees a little boy at a playground.

"I see a little boy. Let's land," said Joshua.

"Please do!" exclaimed Ochaco and Jiro.

Joshua rockets towards the ground and lands in front of the boy.

"Heroes," said the boy.

"Are you the boy who got separated from his big sister? If you are, we're here to help," said Joshua.

"Wait right there!" exclaimed the girl.

Joshua turns his head and sees a little girl sliding down a slide.

"It's about time! What took you long enough you slowpoke hero!" exclaimed the girl.

"It was only six minutes. Why are you complaining?" said Joshua.

"What is your name!" exclaimed the girl.

"Ronin. What's yours?" said Joshua.

"I'm Mahoro and I'm Katsuma's sister," said Mahoro.

"I'm just going to assume that he wasn't missing in the first place. You were testing us weren't you?" said Joshua.

"No, I wasn't," said Mahoro.

"It's not good to lie little girl. What have your parents been teaching you?" said Joshua.

"I'm-" said Katsuma.

Mahoro puts her hand on Katsuma's mouth.

"Don't apologize to them," said Mahoro.

"Do you want us to escort you home? Your parents must be worried," said Joshua.

"We can walk home by ourselves," said Mahoro.

Mahoro grabs Katsuma's hand and walks away quickly.

"Have a good-" said Katsuma.

"Shut up," said Mahoro.

"What's wrong with her?" asked Ochaco.

"I don't think that she likes heroes," said Joshua.

"But why though?" asked Jiro.

"I don't know, but she must have had a bad experience or something," said Joshua.

"We should return. There are more people that we have to save," said Jiro.

"Yeah. Let's get back to base," said Joshua.

Nine hours pass. Joshua and Izuku stand outside of the motel.

"Let's get started," said Izuku.

Izuku jumps up and tries to kick Joshua, but he easily catches Izuku's foot. He throws him at the wall.

"You telegraph your moves to me. You won't win by fighting me like that," said Joshua.

Izuku quickly gets back up. He jumps towards Joshua and tries to punch him, but Joshua easily dodges. Izuku tries to punch Joshua in the gut, but Joshua easily moves out of the way. Joshua jumps up and kicks Izuku in the chin like a football. Izuku flies up a few feet and lands on the ground.

"You won't beat me unless you use your quirk," said Joshua.

"Ok. I will. Full Cowling: Forty Percent! " said Izuku.

"Forty percent? Has he already gotten stronger?" thought Joshua.

"This is going to be-," said Joshua.

Before Joshua can finish speaking, he gets kicked in the stomach. He flies into the wall, creating a small hole.

"I wasn't done talking, but I'll give you that. I will still win this fight," said Joshua.

"I won't let you," said Izuku.

"Are you two losers done fighting yet?' asked Bakugo.

Joshua and Izuku turn their heads to see Bakugo standing a few feet away from them.

"Oh, hey Kacchan. How's the patrol going?" said Izuku.

"Shut up. You guys better be getting stronger," said Bakugo.

"Why do you want us to get strong all of a sudden?" asked Joshua.

"I want to destroy you both at your peaks," said Bakugo.

"We all know that that won't happen," said Izuku.

"We'll see," said Bakugo.

The three boys start to stare intensely at each other. The tension is cut when Katsuma walks up to them.

"Hello," said Katsuma.

The three boys turn around.

"Katsuma, why are you here?" asked Joshua.

"I am here to tell you that there's a villain," said Katsuma.

"There's a villain!' exclaimed Izuku.

"Ok brat! Get to talking!" exclaimed Bakugo.

"It's near the countryside," said Katsuma.

Bakugo grabs the boy and runs away.

"Where are you going!" exclaimed Joshua.

"I'm going to take down that damn villain!" exclaimed Bakugo.

"We're coming with you!" exclaimed Izuku.

"I don't need your help, weaklings!" exclaimed Bakugo.

"You always say that, but at the end of the day, you always need my help!" exclaimed Joshua.

"Shut up, nerd!" exclaimed Bakugo.

"Let's go after him," said Joshua.

"Ok," said Izuku.

Izuku zooms past Joshua and follows Bakugo. Joshua runs and grabs his bag. He opens it and grabs his balled-up suit and clicks the button. It unballs and attaches to his body. He rockets into the air and follows his two classmates. He flies for a few minutes until he sees the villain.

"There it is," said Katsuma.

"I got this!" exclaimed Joshua.

Joshua rockets toward the giant praying mantis villain. It swipes at Joshua and he easily dodges it.

"This should take you down. Heartbreaker Beam!" said Joshua.

The center of Joshua's suit opens. A green beam charges and releases, but it goes right through the villain.

"There's no way that this villain has two quirks. Maybe, he doesn't exist," said Joshua.

Joshua flies to the ground. The praying mantis villain sees this and steps on him.

"Joshua!" exclaimed Izuku.

A few seconds pass until Joshua walks through the claw.

"This thing is just an illusion," said Joshua.

"Who would make an illusion of a villain?" asked Izuku.

Joshua points at a rock.

"The girl behind that rock. Come out Mahoro!" said Joshua.

"I'm not here," said Mahoro.

"Come out, you idiot!" exclaimed Bakugo.

Mahoro peeks over the rock.

"How did you know I was here?" asked Mahoro.

"My suit can scan heat signatures from miles away. You were easy to find," said Joshua.

"I don't have time for this!" exclaimed Bakugo.

Bakugo runs towards Mahoro.

"So, you like taunting heroes huh! Well, your dumb tricks won't work on me! You're looking at the next number one hero, kid! You're messing with the wrong guy!" exclaimed Bakugo.

Katsuma runs up to Bakugo.

Please don't yell at my big sister," said Katsuma.

Bakugo turns his head.

"You were in this too! Come here, you brat!" exclaimed Bakugo.

Izuku grabs Bakugo.

"Chill out. They're just kids, Kacchan," said Izuku.

"Get your damn hands off me, Deku!" exclaimed Bakugo.

Mahoro runs and grabs her little brother.

"Let's get out of here," said Mahoro.

"Where do you think you're going!" exclaimed Bakugo.

"Stop trying to kill them!" exclaimed Izuku.

"I'll kill you if you don't get off me!" exclaimed Bakugo.

The two siblings start to run, but they run right into Joshua.

"Let's talk," said Joshua.

Joshua grabs them both by their collars and charges up twenty percent of Full Cowling. He zooms off, leaving Bakugo and Izuku behind to squabble.

"Wait! Come back, Joshua!" exclaimed Izuku.

"Damn you, nerds!" exclaimed Bakugo.

Joshua continues to run until they reach a field on a farm. Joshua drops the two siblings on the ground.

"Now, get to talking," said Joshua.

"About what?" asked Mahoro.

"Don't play stupid. Why do you dislike heroes? That has to be the only reason why you're doing this," said Joshua.

"He doesn't dislike heroes. I do," said Mahoro.

"But, why? Heroes are cool people. Well, most are," said Joshua.

"I don't want to see him get hurt. He loves heroes and wants to become one, but he'll die if he becomes one," said Joshua.

"Look, kid. In this society, many kids want to become heroes. That's pretty normal. Even though being a hero is a dangerous career choice, there's a big chance that your brother here won't see all of the messed-up stuff. Maybe he won't want to become a hero in a few years. Kids' dreams change with time. I know you want to protect your brother, but hating heroes won't make him safer. It just makes you less likable," said Joshua.

Joshua turns his head and looks at Katsume.

"And you, kid. If you want to become a hero, you better start training instead of helping your big sister with her schemes. You won't get anywhere by allowing your sister to control you. Now, get out of here and stay out of trouble," said Joshua.

"Thank you, sir," said Katsume.

"Let's go home, Katsume," said Mahoro.

Mahoro grabs Katsume's hand and walks away.

"Have a good night," said Joshua.

Joshua turns around and walks in the opposite direction. Before he can continue walking, he hears the screams of Bakugo.

"Where are they! I'm going to kill those bastards!" exclaimed Bakugo.

Bakugo runs up to Joshua.

"Where did they go!" exclaimed Bakugo.

"Relax. You can't become a hero if you kill two kids," said Joshua.

"Whatever. I have better things to do," said Bakugo.

"Where's Deku?" asked Joshua.

"He didn't feel like chasing after me and stormed off back to the motel," said Bakugo.

"You need to learn to talk before you react. Girai Industries has a good counseling department," said Joshua.

"If you keep on talking, I'll go to Tokyo and attack the Girai Industries building by myself," said Bakugo.

"That's a low blow man," said Joshua.

Bakugo walks away.

"I don't care," said Bakugo.

"Classic Bakugo. When will you ever get any character development?" said Joshua.

"Shut up, you quirkless nerd," said Bakugo.
