Reversal of Sisters
It was a quiet night in the mansion of The Scarlet Devil. Most of the residents were ready to retire for the night, however, there was one certain vampire that enjoyed observing the moonlight on her balcony during this time. It was, after all, full moon today, her favorite phase.
Her peace, however, was quickly interrupted by knocking on her door.
-Enter.
It was her younger sister.
-Night, sister. Are you busy now?
Remilia shook her head.
-No, It's fine. What do you need?
-I wanted to talk to you about one thing.
-What is it?
-Remember when you asked me to destroy that meteorite that was about to hit our home?
-Yes, I do. What about it?
-Then you remember that you said that I can ask anything of you as a favor, no questions asked?
She did, however, she didn't exactly like where this was going.
-I haven't forgotten. I presume this is going somewhere?
-So you remember when I asked you if we can swap our roles for day?
Oh no. So that's what it was all about.
-I wish that I could forget that, but yes, I do.
Flandre smiled and put her hands up.
-Then let's do it!
Remilia pinched the bridge of her nose.
-Damn it, Flan, always targeting my weak points. Fine, tomorrow you will be mistress of the mansion for the whole day. I'll talk with others to let them know about this.
-Yay, thanks sis! I'll see you tomorrow, then!
Flandre quickly hugged her sister and left the room.
Remilia sighed.
-Sometimes, I hate myself for being good-hearted...
Next day, early morning.
Remilia decided to call the meeting in the morning to inform the residents of the change for today and instruct them what to do.
Meiling, Sakuya and Patchouli were sitting in the living room of the mansion, looking expectantly at the mistress to start the meeting.
-I called you all here to discuss an important matter. As of today, I transfer my mistress privileges over to my sister for this day only.
Three of them looked surprised at the revelation. The first one to voice her concerns was the magician.
-And why would you do that? Have you already forgotten what she did last time she tried to replace somebody? Koakuma spent a whole week, trying to sort the library back to normal.
-I haven't, but I owe her a favor, and you know that I'm a woman of her word.
The gatekeeper raised her right hand.
-What is it, Meiling?
-What does that exactly mean for us, my lady?
-For you? Good question, it's either your doom or nothing at all. Depends on her mood, I never really could tell what's going on in her head.
Remilia looked at the Sakuya, which was silent through the whole conversation.
-I'll be counting on you, Sakuya, to keep her under control. Pretty much, do anything she says, but make sure she doesn't do anything too reckless. Report back to me, if she's about to do something too dangerous.
The maid bowed.
-I'll do my best, mistress.
The vampire clapped her hands.
-That's it for the meeting. At least it's just for one day, she couldn't possibly cause that much of trouble in just one day.
Later that day, noon.
The two vampires were standing in front of a mirror in the eldest sister's room.
Remilia was baffled at the circumstances she was in.
-You know, we didn't have to actually swap our clothes too.
Flandre ignored her sister.
-It looks perfect!
Remilia sighed.
-Mirror only reflects the room. We are vampires, we don't have reflections.
-I know right? My new room looks perfect!
She raised her eyebrow.
-Isn't your room literally the same? You even have balcony just like me.
-No, no! This room signifies more power!
Remilia was confused by this.
-Okay? I don't really see how my room gives you power, but I'm not really going to question it.
It was Flandre's turn to look confused.
-Why not? You did question these stuff before.
-That's exactly why I'm not questioning it. You will just do a villain-esque speech which will last forever, then do some weird poses, and then you will play it off like a joke.
-That's oddly specific, but can't really say that you're wrong.
Suddenly, Flandre started pushing her sister towards the door.
-Now shoo, my little sister, your big sister, has a lot of things to do today.
She opened the door and pushed Remilia outside.
-Can't I at least grab my things?
The door closed before her face.
-Guess not.
Remilia decided to just head to her sister's room and take it easy for now. She had to be ready for when she would do something weird.
Later that day, afternoon.
Flandre entered the library. She saw Patchouli quietly reading the book in the front. She approached the table and threw herself on it in a dramatic manner.
-Paaaaatchy. I'm bored. Play with me or something.
The magician was unfazed by the vampire's antics and continued to read her book.
-I'm not your jester. Why don't you go bother somebody else?
-You were closest from everybody else.
Patchouli closed her book and looked at the vampire.
-Remind me later to relocate the library somewhere far from your room.
-My room or my sister room?
-Both.
Flandre was offended by this.
-Maan, you're no fun. Are you that rude to Remi, too?
-Your sister usually comes with sensible things to me, which isn't the case with you. If you want something to do, then you might check your room if you're there.
-You're aware that I can just make my clone there and that joke will actually work?
-Exactly. Go play Schrödinger's Cat with your clones or something and don't bother me, I'm busy.
The magician returned to reading.
-Fineee. I'll be back tomorrow, though, and I won't be that niceeeee then.
-Good luck getting through my barriers, then.
The blonde vampire stuck out her tongue at Patchouli then left the library, she obviously wouldn't find anything to do there.
Later that day, evening.
Flandre was sitting back in her room, thinking of what she should do today.
Suddenly, her maid appeared, carrying a tray that had dessert and tea on it.
Her appearance was actually a salvation for the vampire.
-Sakuya, can you tell me what my sister is usually doing these days? There's literally nothing to do, and boredom is killing me.
-Your sister? Let me think for a second.
Sakuya looked deep in thought.
-She usually stays for most of the day in her room, reading various things like books and newspapers. However, if the weather is favorable, then she usually takes short walks around the garden.
Flandre was perplexed by this.
-Whaaat? That's it? That's so boring.
The maid chuckled.
-Your older sister is mostly a calm person, however, she also does have a rebellious side like you.
-I guess, that's true. She did after all try to take over Gensokyo and then the moon.
Sakuya held her chin.
-That reminds me, If you hurry to the gate right now, my lady, you should be right at time to meet the "challenger" that keeps coming every day in attempt to face "The Scarlet Devil."
-Huh? Really? I'll check it out then. Thanks Sakuya!
The maid bowed, then disappeared.
Flandre decided to check out this supposed "challenger," since it could be a good way to pass the time.
A bit later, at the gate.
The vampire exited the mansion, then flied to the top of the gate and landed on one of the pillars.
She sat down and faced the gatekeeper that was strangely unaware of her presence.
-Meiling, I envy you, standing here all the days and never getting bored.
The gatekeeper looked startled at the sudden voice, she kept looking left and right in the search of the disturbance but couldn't find anything, she finally looked up and saw Flandre sitting at the top of the gate.
-Oh! It's you, mistress. Ehehe, it's my duty, so I'm doing it diligently!
The vampire held her chin.
-I find it strange, though, that Sakuya is always mad when she sees you standing guard at the gate. She's even been throwing knives at you! I must talk to her about this later...
Meiling was sweating, she flailed her hands dismissively.
-No! It's fine, really! I don't mind it! It's not like she's mad because I'm sleeping on the job, ahaha.
Flandre looked puzzled.
-You sure? Well, whatever, suit yourself. I'm here because Sakuya told me that usually at this time some kind of "challenger" comes here.
-A challenger? Oh! You mean "her." She's not much of an opponent, though.
-How so?
-You'll see. As a matter of fact, here she comes.
The vampire looked in front of her, and sure enough, she saw 2 fairies flying over to them, one had aqua hair and second one, a green hair. They both landed near the gate.
-Gatekeeper! I'm back and am not leaving until I get a chance to face the ultimate foe!
-Will you give it up already? My lady has no time for people of your kind.
Flandre jumped down from top of the gate on the ground.
-Let me handle this, Meiling.
She approached the fairy duo.
-I am Remilia Scarlet, The Scarlet Devil, I accept your challenge, traveler.
The green-haired fairy tugged at the other fairy's dress.
-Cirno, I don't think that's her. They told me that she had blue hair and bat wings. I think that's actually her younger sister.
The ice fairy looked at her questioningly.
-You mean the one that can destroy anything with just thought?
She nodded. They looked at each other for a moment, then Cirno had a huge grin on her face.
-Isn't that even better? I get to face an even stronger foe! She's a bit strange, though, impersonating her sister like that.
Suddenly, Cirno exploded in a pichuun explosion. The green-haired fairy looked horrified at her friend's "death."
-I'm done, so boooring. Clean up this trash, Meiling, then you can go back to your sleeping at job as usual.
The gatekeeper was flabbergasted.
-Wait, so you knew it all along?
Flandre faced Meiling.
-Of course, I did. I just played dumb to pass the time, who do you think was stacking these paper hats on your head when you were sleeping? But I guess, I can let that pass since you did stop this pest from intruding multiple times, however, she most likely will come back anyway, so you better not slack off too much.
Meiling saluted.
-Of course, mistress! I swear, I won't let anybody intrude!
The vampire doubted that, but then again, she does fight much stronger opponents than her. At least she's trying somewhat.
Flandre decided to head to her sister's room to summarize the whole day, well there wasn't much to talk about, since the day wasn't fascinating.
Later that day, night.
Remilia was reading a book, back in her younger sister's room. She was a bit surprised, since nobody reported to her that her sister was about to do something reckless.
She heard knocking on the door.
-It's open.
It was Flandre. She entered the room.
-Sister, I must admit, your position is awfully boring.
Remilia was confused by this.
-Huh? I expected you to abuse your power to bring some weird changes and order people around.
-What? Who do you see me as? Some kind of megalomaniac person that finds pleasure in abusing her power? I just wanted to experience a day being you, but that was just a big disappointment.
Remilia pouted.
-Well, excuse me for not being "fun" enough. I assume that means that you won't be thinking about replacing or swapping anybody else in the near future?
-Probably, yes. Not promising anything, though.
The vampire nodded.
-Good enough for me.
Flandre suddenly hugged her sister tightly.
-I wanted to also thank you, big sis, for putting up with me. I know that I'm causing trouble sporadically, but even then you're still understanding of me.
Remilia hugged her back.
-That's rare from you. It's what family is for, isn't it? I consider most people from this mansion as my family, and you're no exception, Flan.
Flandre smiled.
-Yeah, I know.
After a moment of silence, the blonde vampire looked at her sister.
-Can I ask for another little favor, sis?
-And that would be?
-Could we sleep together today? Just like old times.
-Of course, I don't really mind.
-Thanks, sister.
They held like that for a while, then Remilia noticed that her little sister has fallen asleep in her hands. She smiled and picked her up gently, then placed her on the bed and put a blanket over her. She then climbed up next to her and likewise slowly went to sleep, ending this day on the peaceful note.
