Accidental Villain 3
Ever since I was a little girl I had wanted to be…
5 year old Pyrrha was so excited; she could lift up her pencil sharpener!
She could make things fly!
This was so so so so so so so cool! Everyone was looking at her in amazement as the tiny metal thing was coated in a black glow.
She was the first person in her class to unlock her semblance and everyone was so amazed. Throughout all of lunchtime people were coming up to her to see what she could do, and while it was only lift up the small sharpener, she was over the shattered moon with joy.
When she went home to her mum she told her about what she could do and her mum had the happiest smile on her face. Her mother told her that she had managed to inherit the same semblance that she had unlocked.
Now Pyrrha was super-duper happy, she was going to be exactly like her mummy! This was the best day ever.
The next few days past and some other people had managed to unlock their semblances as well. This blue haired boy named Neptune had managed to drop his cup of water and while the cup fell, the water stayed in the air. This taller boy named Sage accidently slammed his hand down on the desk to hard and he blasted off all the objects with a shockwave. Then the girl she sat next to called Arslan had accidentally blasted off a fireball into the air and was so scared of what that could mean for her. She was such a calm and level headed girl.
Under her mother's teachings when she reached the end of the year she was able to lift multiple small things at once and hold them in the air for an extended amount of time, even twirl them around in a figure of 8. Her mum had also been teaching her several different self-defence techniques as well to keep her healthy and also because it was so much fun!
She had managed to do so much in such a short time and her mum was so happy for her, she couldn't wait for the talent show when she was 7 so that she could show everyone what she had learned.
... hopeful
By the time Pyrrha had turned 7 years old she had managed to lift up four car wheels and move them around as though they were attached to a car, she even played out a little game with her mother called metal race. It worked like a marble race, they set up an obstacle course and then they race 2 metal balls along it, so far Pyrrha had yet to beat her mum, but the game was so much more entertaining than she thought it would be, it wasn't a test of speed so much a test of control. Sure you could blast along the straight sections, but she found that slowing down for the corners seemed to cost her a lot of time and her mum always managed to overtake her. Not that she minded as she got to learn and spend time with her mum.
This year however she would be in the talent show, a lot of schools held one of these when several of their students reached the age of 7; it was usually a good judge of where they were with their powers and abilities.
Pyrrha knew that she was nowhere near as strong as her mum, but her mum kept assuring her that she would be far stronger when she fully got control of her polarity.
Her mum kept calling it polarity when Pyrrha thought it was magnetism, not that she understood the difference between them as she was only 7 and that was really advanced science that she was trying to figure out, especially for her age.
The day had come and Pyrrha would be going out first onto the stage, she hadn't asked for anything however what she had done before the show was make sure to touch the metal seats that were in the crowd, not all of them as she wasn't strong enough for that yet, but to make sure to touch every other one so that when she got on stage she would be able to lift them up.
The trophy sat there on the judge's table right in the main view of whoever would be on stage performing and Pyrrha looked at it.
She really hoped she would win.
"Thank you everyone for coming to tonight's talent show here at Shelter, first up we have Pyrrha Nikos." Said the homeroom teacher as she passed Pyrrha off the stage she gave her a shoulder squeeze and whispered to her "Make us proud out there."
Pyrrha felt nervous at those words, she wasn't so much focused on making people proud so much as she was doing her best. Standing at the microphone she looked down at the parents and noticed her mother sitting right there at the front of the audience with a calming smile on her face and Pyrrha instantly felt better.
"Hello. I'm Pyrrha and my semblance is Polarity." Good she got the word right as her mother gave her a thumbs up and her nerves started to disappear.
She stepped back from the microphone and held out her hands, closing her eyes to better concentrate, simply taking in the surroundings, she was so focused she could even hear a couple of whispers from the crowd.
"Such a pretty little girl."
"She sure is confident."
"Already that's a better power than my son's music semblance."
Pyrrha tried to block out those sounds as she felt for what her mother described to her as her opposite.
She found it.
It was pushing away from herself, her mother described it like she was the north and everything else was the south to her, her power only worked with opposites and her mother got her to think of all the metal as an opposite to her, as such she could move it away from her, moving it towards her was very difficult as it often then blasted away at a strong force, moving the objects together was easy as they all shared the same pole.
Pyrrha wasn't sure she understood what her mother was talking about whenever she talked about it, but she could still do it and her mum was proud of her none the less.
Feeling that opposing force Pyrrha pushed it away from her and pushed up with her hands and the chairs followed all lifting up in the air while Pyrrha looked quite strained at the force she was exerting from her body.
She held the chairs in the air for a few seconds and they all slowly started to push away from her as she held them under her semblance for longer, then she slowly released them all back to the ground. They didn't land on the ground perfectly but they did land sort of where they were supposed to be.
Pyrrha breathed a deep breath and relaxed her body, lifting that many with some people on the chairs had been a bit of a strain and honestly she was feeling it after all of that, she spared a glance at her mum and she was smiling happily at her and that was all Pyrrha wanted from this show. As the thunderous applause came in Pyrrha was honestly shocked, from what she had heard, most people only got a polite clap but Pyrrha was getting a full on celebration, and she could hear what some of them were saying as well.
"I see why they chose her to go first."
"How could anyone top that?"
"She is 7? She has more power than most teenagers."
"My kid isn't that strong."
Pyrrha had a different feeling in her stomach after hearing those with the clapping, she wasn't sure if she liked it all those words.
After waving awkwardly she walked off backstage and passed her classmates, most who looked at her strangely, Arslan gave her a fist bump however and then went back to, well not sleep but it looked like she was doing some kind of meditating, a good chance that she wasn't actually paying attention to her performance.
Neptune was next up and the applause had died down and he showed off his water manipulation to the crowd by making a water statue of himself from a bucket of water.
He only got a few claps and she even heard people comparing him to her and saying how he lacked the sheer power and control she did.
Sage went next and he was met with the same level of uninterested applause and much the same comments that Neptune was.
Even Scarlet when he flew around the large hall and performed some acrobatic flips around the area was only met with a little bit of applause and still the same comments as the others in her class all got. By the time that most of them were back behind the stage, they were all gathered up away from Pyrrha leaving her well, not alone but Arslan was basically asleep so she didn't really count.
When it came to her turn she went out there and roared loudly and shot fire from her hands and her mouth in large blasts. After she was done she didn't even wait for an applause she just walked off the stage and took her seat again and closed her eyes, not bothering to sit with the others, but still not really sitting with Pyrrha. She did receive a slightly louder applause and Pyrrha thought that was good.
Now it had come to the end of the talent show and since it was a competition it was also time to declare a winner, now the teachers from the school had been in the front row judging the whole completion and Pyrrha was nervous for the results.
She wasn't sure which result she would prefer.
"And the winner by unanimous decision is: PYRRHA NIKOS!"
The crowd erupted in applause and cheers as she came out onto the stage bashfully and shook the hands of her teachers, her mother still sat down while all the other parents were cheering loudly but her eyes only met her mums.
She had a smile on her face that shifted when she saw her daughter's expression.
'Are you alright?' she mouthed to Pyrrha.
Once the applause all stopped and the show was over Pyrrha was still in the hall as more and more parents came up to personally congratulate her on her winning saying that they were so amazed with her and thought that she deserved to win the most.
When she got back home with the trophy in her hand she took a moment to look at it and felt a bit bad that she was the one going home with it.
"Mum, do you think the other kids are going to hate me for winning?" Pyrrha asked nervously, she didn't want them to.
"Sweetie it is not wrong to win, it is not wrong to be better than someone in something. They won't hate you so long as you remain humble."
"But they must have also worked hard for this mum, and, and I-I just took it from them."
"Because you worked hard for it as well sweetheart, the chips simple fell in your favour this time. Next time you might not be so lucky."
Pyrrha sighed as she looked at her winnings; suddenly it didn't seem as appealing now that she held it in her hand.
"And if they do hate me for winning?" she asked with fear in her eyes.
"Then they never liked you to begin with Pyrrha, the were never going to be your friends for the long run if they couldn't handle you doing better than them at something. The thing you need to learn sweetie is that different people are better at different things, look at your cooking: last time you tried it you set the oven on fire, all you had to do was watch the cake in the oven."
Pyrrha sniffed and wiped a tear away she didn't realise had fallen on her cheek and smiled as her mum pulled her into a hug.
On Monday at school when she walked in she smiled to her classmates but none of them smiled back, this pattern continued throughout the day with people avoiding her and not engaging with her in any conversation. When it came to a science lesson and Pyrrha was sat next to Arslan who was writing down the test answers, Pyrrha was never any good at science so she leaned over to ask Arslan for help with the question.
"Hey Arslan, how would you describe a reptile?"
"Dry scaly skin and lays eggs." Was her reply after a second to think about it, it was after all what she had put for her answer.
"Thank you." Arslan just nodded and then returned to her paper to continue to write down her answers. That was until Pyrrha asked her another question since Arslan was the first person today to actually speak to her.
"Uh Arslan, you don't hate me do you? For winning the talent show?"
Arslan looked at her for a moment with a confused look and shook her head. "No."
"Oh that's good so we are still friends?"
"Uh, sure. I won't complain I guess." Was Arslans simple reply. "The rest of the class do not like you however; why I don't know. Can I finish the test please? My guardian told me he would only train me if I got a score of 10 or more in the quiz."
"Oh sure, yeah I will let you be."
"Thank you Pyrrha." And with that the fire user got back to her scribbling and Pyrrha felt her mind be at ease that at least one person did not hate her.
She told her mum when she got home about how Arslan was still her friend and her mum said that she should just stay close to her then if the rest of the children wanted to waste the opportunity to be friends with such a wonderful girl, this led to many cuddles that Pyrrha loved and also the sharing of a large stash of chocolate that her mum only got out for special occasions.
Pyrrha continued with sticking near Arslan for the next few weeks, but she noticed that she seemed to be making the more effort to talk between the 2 of them with Arslan being more happy to sit in silence, even during break time and lunch, Arslan preferred to sit and meditate while the other kids would kick a ball around or chase each other.
Despite having someone to be with, Pyrrha had never felt more alone than those moments.
…happy
Leaving Primary school had been a big leap for Pyrrha, not in the sense that she would be leaving people behind as it turned out that not many people there actually liked her after she seemed to outperform them time and time again with her semblance control, but because she would be moving on to a new school with new people.
Sanctum academy.
She learned that Arslan would not be going there and instead she would be going to a school over in Vacuo as her guardian had gotten some work over there and once the school year had come to an end he and Arslan would be moving over there.
That goodbye was a sad one for Pyrrha but Arslan didn't seem to be as sad.
"You act as though we won't see each other ever again, if you truly care about me that you are going to miss me so much. Then when we are older we can meet again." She said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world and suddenly Pyrrha's spirits were lifted. While their friendship was a very odd one with them not speaking much between them, they were still comfortable around each other with long silences, Arslan even teaching Pyrrha to meditate one time.
The 2 had then parted ways and she was now in Sanctum and while she wasn't alone persay-
"Hey Pyrrha come here we need you!"
"Yeah so the vending machine is stuck again can you do the thing?" it came as a question but she knew it wasn't much of one.
"Sure, I'd be happy to." She wouldn't, but they were speaking to her and that was something she could enjoy.
A can of the fizzy drink popped out of the machine and the student caught it and his friends all cheered, not for her, but because she did something for them. She smiled politely and watched as they all walked away to their table and she went back to her little corner off to the side.
She was 14 now, first discovering her semblance seemed like a life time ago. And now she was using it for others. This in the long run was what she had signed up for.
She wanted to be a hero, just like Glynda Goodwitch. She saw her on the news and she was amazing, swishing around her wand and her hands to lift and move any objects she needed to defeat the villain or save the day, she was extraordinary powerful, and she was such an inspiration to Pyrrha that she had taken to her hero lessons as best as she could.
However this proved to be a test in its own special way.
Due to her training with her mother in her semblance she was strong, very strong. Whereas before she had difficulty picking up a few chairs with people on them, now she was able to lift up and hold a car for a length of time. Also the self-defence lessons with her mother had proven that she was naturally athletic and took to combat very well, thus when they had their sparring practice between the students, she was usually the dominant one in the situation, even if she wasn't then she still managed to win the fight.
The academy students had taken to calling her the 'invincible girl', and at first this had been a fun little nickname that she told her mother about with pride when she first found it out and her mother had been happy for her at the time, but then they both realised the prison it was.
It was an unattainable goal, something nobody else could reach.
Sure the teacher was an expert and could defeat her, but he was a pro hero and he did everything with very little effort; Mr Aizawa was truly an incredible fighter.
But the gap between her and the other students in the hero courses had grown to a point where they only came up to her when they wanted something from her, never wanted anything for her.
When her mother had talked her about getting the teachers to consider about maybe setting up a partner system so that she could maybe bond with someone, Pyrrha refused and said she didn't want to force anybody to be her friend and it would only make things worse if they fell out and still had to be together.
Her mother agreed but still said that maybe she should go out and see if she could find a friend outside of school.
That didn't go well at all.
While she was ignored in school unless they could use her semblance for something, around Argus she was anything but, people wanted to take photos and all sorts because of a little sponsorship thing she did for Pumpkin Petes up-and-coming-young-heroes marketing, they had scouted a few people and then asked them to perform a talent show and Pyrrha had managed to win.
Again.
Then she was put on the front of a cereal box, it was funny for a moment as the person on the front of the box had always been a great hero, but seeing herself on there had been surreal. To everyone else it was an opportunity to try and use her to push them up in the world.
Sadly Pyrrha sometimes let them in a desperate attempt to have a decent conversation with about anything other than how amazing and awesome she apparently was.
Other than her science tests, it was the only thing she failed at.
…a hero
Leaving Argus had been a tough decision, but one Pyrrha and her mother knew that she had to do; at the age of 19 she was going to attend Beacon University in Vale to become a hero.
Her last few years at Sanctum had been very lonely, with only her mother to talk to about most topics leaving her was the hardest part, sure she might miss the city, but it was really only her mum that she would ache for here in Argus.
The rest of the place had some bad memories.
In their last year for the hero studies, Pyrrha was still undefeated in combat class and her progress with her semblance was unmatched, she had finally beaten her mother in the metal race which she was the most proud of, although she more contributed that to her mother only ever using her semblance during the race and never really around the house or in her everyday life, whereas Pyrrha spent every day using it to gain a better control over the power within her.
But for the last lesson in combat they had a special quest, a young hero by the name of Saphron Arc. She was beautiful with long blond hair and a tall strong body and some of the most amazing blue eyes she had ever seen.
She was here to fight the students and to test them in battle, now Pyrrha had seen her on the news and knew about her blasts of light she could shoot from her hand, she used them to shoot herself through the air, wield metal together and to blind and knock down enemies. She was a true up and coming hero and Pyrrha was so in awe of her that when she came back from her mussing she noticed the entire class was looking at her.
She knew why this was; she was being called upon to fight.
The 4 time winner of the Mistral regional tournament. Where all of the secondary schools across Mistral bring students together to put on a show against each other.
While she really liked fighting, she didn't love it when she was being used for a purpose like this, she didn't like showing off.
She could remember walking down to the arena and she could remember the words her classmates said.
"Wonder if Nikos will lose."
"20 on the blonde."
"Here we go again, background characters for Pyrrha freaking Nikos. Yay!"
"Hope she loses, that will knock her off her high horse."
Then came the fight, it was one of the harder ones that she had ever had and it ended with multiple cuts, bruises, scratches, and a black eye on Saphrons part. Pyrrha had even lost, while she was trying to use a metal beam to strike Saphron, she had blinded her and then blasted her out of the arena so it was a ring out.
Pyrrha knew she could have kept fighting, and she knew that Saphron could have as well, but she had technically won. It was then she noticed the smug smile on Saphrons face and she heard the whispers around the classroom.
"Even when she loses she still holds her own against a hero."
"She only lost by a technicality, what hope is there for the rest of us?"
Even when Pyrrha lost she still couldn't win, not matter what happened maybe she was destined to be alone.
That was why she made the choice to go to Beacon University, new places and new faces that maybe wouldn't know who she was.
Those hopes were destroyed when she was met by Weiss Schnee the illustrious heir to the Snchee fortune and business, she made sure that everyone was aware of Pyrrha's rank and her achievements, she didn't have to do to much as it turns out even the people in Vale knew who she was after all, and while the people she met here were not as selfish as the ones back in Sanctum by constantly asking her to do things for them, they didn't exactly see her as someone like them, not with Weiss pushing her up onto the pedestal. Luckily the campus was large enough and had so many different buildings that she could just move freely away from her 'fans' whenever she was getting overwhelmed and not be followed; they even had a small one for science that Pyrrha never went near.
Several combat classes later she had worked out though that some of the students; namely Yang Xaio-Long and Nora Valkyrie didn't really care about her amazing and unbeatable combat record, they just wanted to have fun and smash some things, and for the first time she thought that maybe she might have some friends when they invited her to hang out.
It didn't go so well when the two girls realised the futility of trying to beat Pyrrha in combat and instead focused on trying to outdo each other instead. Slowly Pyrrha found herself being pushed to the side by the 2 competitive girls, she hoped to bond with maybe Blake or Ren but they seemed more content with quiet than even Arslan was. Ruby was Pyrrha's last hope as she thought that they two of them had the most in common, her being moved up 2 whole years due to her exceptional skill and use of semblance, she was the one that came the closest in terms of nearly beating Pyrrha in most classes.
Sadly Weiss had swooped in for un-known reasons to Pyrrha and taken Ruby for herself, she was always around her and while Pyrrha thought that the 2 of them could be good friends, she didn't want to deal with Weiss' worship constantly. And Pyrrha was never going to stoop so low as to try to hang out with Cardin and his other bullies, not even she was that desperate for some friends.
The University was very lucky one day when Glynda Goodwitch herself had shown up to stop a villain named Hazel Reinhart, Pyrrha was so jealous that she didn't get to see her idol in action, but that changed when she came into combat class the next day and there she was, she was her to see how the students were doing.
She even offered to spar several of them, not 1-on-1 as that would be a certain victory for her and no challenge at all but 4 or 3 at a time.
Watching Glynda Goodwitch make short work of Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang amazing, not even Pyrrha could beat all of them at the same time, although she gave them a good challenge none the less. It was towards the end of combat class and Glynda had said that the group of girls had done exceedingly well to hold out for as long as they did against a much more skilled and powerful opponent, and that with further experience they would all be welcome at her agency, provided that they passed the exam at the end of the year with flying colours.
Glynda then came up to Pyrrha and told her much the same, as she had always scouted out Beacon University for promising new heroes to guide and help train, as was the job of a mentor. Pyrrha was shocked that her idol would consider herself her own mentor and had promised that she would make sure to devote herself to her studies.
She called her mum later that night and told her of the great news and her mum was so happy for her, they went over the usual topics about if she had made any friends, but the answer was always the same. However for once that didn't matter to Pyrrha right now, maybe getting into Glynda's agency would mean she could interact with other pros who were all better than her, and if that could happen then they wouldn't see her as some unbeatable victory goddess, she would be just like them.
… Normal
The internship for The Disciplinarian was going… well?
Nora and Ren had also managed to get in as well and so had the 4 girls that had now decided to go by team RWBY, it wasn't un-common for heroes to move into teams of 4 and these girls had decided that they worked better together than they did on their own.
Pyrrha wished more than anything that she had this level of connection with someone.
The experience of the situation was going really well, she had recently had a rescue mission with team CFVY; a group that were only a year older than she was but they worked together and controlled the situation with amazing ability. Pyrrha barely needed to do anything, she lifted one car off of someone meanwhile Velvet and Yatsuhashi managed to hold up a building. Yatsuhashi having a semblance that allowed him to grow bigger and velvet being able to mimic semblances for a short period of time, Fox then darted in and out of the building while Coco hyped herself up and managed to defeat the earth using Villain with only one punch, she was amazingly strong.
The 4 of them shared a comradery between them that made Pyrrha yearn so much for. They even shared a story about the nemesis' of the team two people on the Villain list Mercury Black with his vortex semblance and Emerald Sustari with her illusion semblance.
Pyrrha wasn't jealous that they had a nemesis, because ideally she would like that there are no villains and everyone just worked for the betterment of the people on Remnant. What she was jealous of was that somehow they had managed to form a connection with people where she hadn't once again. Even team RWBY managed to gain the fury of one Cinder Fall when they battled her at some point, and Cinder only ever paid attention to Amber Autumn whenever she turned up to help out.
The great thing about this agency was that Glynda had taken a special interest in Pyrrha and took her out on several of her patrols and given her some extra advice and mentorship, not even the whispers around the agency about her being the teacher's pet could change how happy she was that her idol was taking an interest in her and her abilities.
Currently they were on a completely normal rescue mission where Glynda and Pyrrha were currently holding up a building for the firefighters and the ambulance members to get people to safety. Pyrrha was only lifting the metal objects and she was doing a good job of holding them in place, most of the time whenever she lifted a metal object it would push away from her as she was the opposite pole, something she had finally understood over the years, but now she had learned that it wasn't about constant use on the object, but about fluctuating the use so that it wouldn't push away too much from her.
After it was all done Pyrrha took a few deep breaths as Glynda would expect her to talk to people to make sure they were okay, and she had to be polite about it even if they did tend to gush a little about her being a model and a mascot.
After a particularly gruelling task one day Pyrrha had been hounded by reporters while she was trying to help clean up and she had done her best to answer the questions politely, but she was at the same time neglecting the people that needed her help in the moment, that was until Glynda swooped in and waved them off saying that they had people to help and that came first. The reporters loved that as they got photos of the number 2 hero and one of her sidekicks in action.
Glynda then confessed to Pyrrha that long ago she too had been in her position; a powerful semblance, unrivalled combat prowess and fame coming along with it. She said that dealing with the press was always the worst part, so she just always stayed on the job. Don't say to them how you are going to change the world instead tell them.
"Just watch me."
For the next few days Pyrrha found that it did indeed work, she wasn't dismissive of them. She simply asked them to 'please let her do her work and then she could answer some questions.' It worked out well for her as there was always something else for her to do after the next thing was done, so because of the advice from Glynda she managed to avoid the press and the photos for the most part.
Pyrrha did believe this was a moment of bonding between the 2 of them, especially when Glynda told her that she was doing a good job, but it wasn't a moment of friendship. More like a moment of pride from a teacher to a student, however it was much more than what she usually got from most people.
Even with RWBY and Nora and Ren sometimes talking to her and Yang and Nora teasing her occasionally she still didn't feel an overwhelming sense of friendship, and she didn't think that would change any time soon, nor was she about to gain an arch nemesis like team RWBY had or team CFVY had.
Little did Pyrrha know that something was about to change.
A couple of days after Pyrrha and Glynda had responded to the broken building, Pyrrha had gotten an alert about a bank heist. The silent alarm had been tripped and the police were on their way, they believed it to be the criminal who had managed to take out a whole team of sidekicks as such they had requested some hero back up.
Arriving at the bank Pyrrha surveyed the scene, there was an unusual amount of police response for this one man, and he must have a truly powerful semblance. Glynda told her to take the lead on this particular mission and she would follow what Pyrrha thought to be a good plan unless she needed to step in.
Pyrrha then stepped into the bank and observed the scene, 3 people wearing work uniforms were stood against one of the walls with an older man and woman as well all with their hands up, meanwhile the last bank worker was behind a counter and had a computer turned to a tall blond man in a lab coat, he looked young around Pyrrha's age and handsome in a plain simple way.
She thought at a first glance maybe she would pass over him to keep checking the area like she had been taught by Glynda, but she found herself observing more and more of the man. She was right he was indeed handsome, but it was no longer in a simple way it was more of a geeky way, the way he kept looking at the computer screen and sticking his tongue out to write on his arm. The very dirty white lab coat; Pyrrha could see burnt marks, shock marks, rips, stains and tears in the fabric as well as where he had obviously sown it back together.
Then she remembered the job she had to do.
"STOP RIGHT THERE YOU CRIMINAL!"
That is when she saw it, the most beautiful pair of bright blue eyes she had ever seen.
Ever since I was a little girl I had wanted to be…
Hopeful
Happy
A Hero
Normal
… I have wanted to be all those things, but most of all I just wanted was someone who just saw me for being me…
Yes another Arkos fic, I just wanted them to be happy, and I hope that when Jaune dies she appears and pushes him over, telling him that his stance is wrong.
Also I unlocked Arslan in RWBY Amity Arena and she is really useful to my playstyle right now so she's awesome. She's no Penny 2.0, but come on who is?
Quick edit: I re-read my draft and then saw this note, Amity Arena has been down for so long and I realise how long I have had this just sitting here wondering if this story is anywhere good enough.
