2019 : New York
Felicia Hardy was just getting back from another day of burglary. It hasn't been as fun as it used to be for the past few years without Spider-Man to chase her.
Felicia sighed as she removed the armor part of her suit and dropped down on her chair.
She then reached down and picked up her recent steal, which was a few hundred dollars' worth in wine. She opens it up with her claws and poured it down into a glass.
But before she could take a drink of it, there was a gust of wind, followed by a blast of lightning, causing her to drop the glass and it to shatter.
When she looked up, Felicia saw it was Eobard Thawne.
"Felicia Hardy. The second Black Cat." Thawne said before removing his cowl and showed his face to her. "It's an honor."
"Great. A crazy fan with superpowers." Felicia sighed and rolled her eyes. "What do you want?"
"To offer you the biggest steal of a lifetime." Thawne stated. "How would you like to help me gain the power to bend all reality to your will?"
Felicia looked over to him with a confused look. "What's it going to cost me?"
"I just need you to help me catch a spider." Thawne tells her the price, but that easily got her attention.
Felicia sat up and looked with a giant grin on her face at the idea of seeing the Spider-Man again.
"I'm listening..."
Waverider : Temporal Zone
Stein and Ray just left the med bay where Nate was still resting off the Nazi serum Ray gave him, and they strolled down the halls.
"Any side effects from the alternate universe's super solder-serum you injected him with?" Stein asks Ray.
"No, but that may have a little something to do with the work I did altering the serum to remove the Nazi parts." Ray stated, neither of them noticing Amaya dropping from the ceiling.
"Yes, it would be a tad inconvenient to have a monster roaming the ship." Stein stated just as Amaya slammed Stein into the wall and then punched Ray before he had time to react and slammed him into the ground.
Back in the main room, Sara was piloting and began to get up.
"Gideon, can you pilot for a little bit? I need a break." Sara asked as she let out a tired sigh.
Just as she left the seat, she was met with a backhand by Amaya, knocking her out.
In the engine room, Jax and Lane were working on the engine of the Waverider and also having a conversation.
"Okay, so I've always wondered, how exactly does hyperdrive work on the Falcon?" Jax asks Lane.
"The hyperdrive functioned by sending hypermatter particles to hurl a ship into hyperspace while preserving the vessel's mass and energy profile, while requiring a functional hyperdrive motivator to do so." Lane answered him as he walked around the container and searched for a wrench. "The vessel then traveled along a programmed course until it dropped back into normal space, real space, at its destination."
"Huh." Jax guessed just as his head was smashed into the container, knocking him out.
Lane then looked up to see Amaya and quickly drew his blaster and set it to stun before trying to shoot her down, failing and also getting kicked in the process and sent flying into the wall.
Peter was in the kitchen area, getting into contact with his parents as he finally has a minute to inform them on everything that went down with Mick who was making himself a sandwich and searching through the silverware.
"Where are all of the knives?" Mick asked.
"Did you look in the drawer?" Peter asked as he wondered why he can't get into contact with his folks just as his senses went off and saw Amaya with a knife in her hand. "Mick! Watch out!"
Amaya however was faster than both of them and placed the knife around Mick's throat.
"Oh, there's one." Mick commented on the knife. "Look, if this is about me taking all of the mayonnaise, you might be slightly overreacting."
"You killed him!" Amaya stated, confusing the two of them.
"I've killed lots of people. You're gonna have to be more specific." Mick stated as he grabbed her arm and sent Amaya flying over his back as Peter quickly webbed her hand to the floor.
"Amaya, what are you talking about?" Peter asked her just as she used her other hand to grab onto her amulet and causing a ghostly form of a rhino to form and breaks through the webbing. "Remind me to upgrade the formula later."
"Noted." Mick promised as the two raced in, Peter going in for the punch, but sent flying as Amaya got the first punch in and sent him flying into the fridge.
Mick then took a swing, only ending with Amaya spinning and causing Mick to lose balance and fall.
Amaya then went into stab him, but Peter shot a web out as he held onto the wall and pulled the knife out of her hand, only to reveal she had a second one and went to stab Mick again.
This time Peter didn't react as he was shocked to see something else. As Amaya went to stab Mick, she was interrupted by someone grabbing her hand and causing her to drop the knife into her other hand, and as she tried to stab the person, they revealed to be made of steel.
The figure then hit her in the head, rendering Amaya unconscious revealing to be Nate Heywood.
"What the hell happened to you?" Mick asked in shock.
"I really don't know." Nate confessed as he looked over his reflective skin.
It took a while to wake up the team and get Amaya to the holding cell aboard before they explained everything that happened to Nate after his steel skin wore off.
"You injected me with Nazi serum?!" Nate asked Ray after they got to that part of the story.
"Which I redesigned to quintuple my own strength and transform my skin into an alloy ten times stronger than steel." Ray stated.
"Steel. That's a cool name." Mick stated from the seat as he finally finished his sandwich.
"Yeah, especially since my father was called Commander Steel." Nate said as he suddenly became more excited at the idea. "But what does that make me? Corporal Steel? Me. Steel? Citizen Steel?"
"Who cares about names?" Lane asked with an ice-pack in his hand and on his head. "You've got superpowers, man."
"Except, I don't know how I turned to steel in the first place." Nate informed them.
"Ray'll teach you." Sara promised as she looked over to the scientist.
"He will?" Ray asked in confusion.
"You said it yourself, you created the serum." Sara reminded him.
"Which I did beautifully, but it's not like it came with an instruction manual." Ray stated.
"Well, maybe you can start by getting into contact with our friends on Earth-616. See what they say about it." Sara guessed. "While you do that, I'm gonna go have a chat with our stowaway."
"This is gonna be so much fun!" Nate said cheerfully as Sara left the room.
Amaya was waiting in the holding cell, already trying to find a way out and there was nothing she could do to escape.
Sara then opened the doors to the room and strolled around the cell as Amaya didn't even flinch. "You stowed away before we time-jumped out from 1942."
"I'm gonna get out of here and finish what I started." Amaya promises Sara.
"You mean, killing Mick?" Sara asked her, not understanding why she's planning on doing it. "Not that I haven't thought of it myself, but why?"
"He killed Rex." Amaya informed Sara, who became seriously confused.
"What? Rex Tyler? As in Hourman?" Sara asked for confirmation.
"His killer stole the Askaran Amulet." Amaya informed her.
"Look, I'm sorry, but Mick didn't do it." Sara defended her friend.
Amaya didn't seemed to believe her and marched over to the doors. "He is a thief and a murderer."
"He's also a Legend." Sara reminded her. "And he hasn't been off the ship since we dropped your team off at the JSA."
"With his last words, he told me his killers were time travelers." Amaya informed her.
Sara stopped and understood that maybe it was their rogue traveler that's recruited the Black Cat to help him who's doing this.
"You know. We've been tracking someone who's been trying to alter history. He recruited a burglar from our time called Black Cat. We think they're who gave Krieger the super soldier serum. This might be your time traveler." Amaya seemed to take this into consideration but wasn't one hundred percent convinced. "Look, if I let you out of here, you need to promise you won't hurt Mick unless he really deserves it."
Amaya sighed and nodded as Sara opened the doors. She took a few steps out and apologized. "Sorry for knocking you out."
"Sorry for locking you up." Sara apologized. "Call it even?"
With the others, Ray just finished getting into contact with the Avengers on Earth-616, or more specifically, the four month pregnant Michelle Jones-Parker, and they had nothing that could help them with the serum he created.
So with no help from them, Ray guessed they needed to just wing it as he, Lane, Jax and Peter all went down to the hanger with Nate ahead of them.
"When I was a kid, I used to play JSA vs. Nazis with my dolls. Well, they weren't really dolls as much as action figures. But it doesn't matter now because I have superpowers and it's awesome!" Nate said as he hasn't really stopped talking since the discovery.
"Your powers manifested as a result of an adrenal response." Ray informed them as Lane picked up his blaster from the holster.
"Meaning Amaya attacked and you reacted." Lane recapped what that meant.
"So now what we need to do is duplicate the conditions which caused you to steel on." Ray said while Lane aimed at Nate's head while he faced away from them.
"Wait, so you're gonna threaten me?" Nate asked just as he turned and came face to face with the blaster.
"Not exactly." Lane said with a grin.
"Hold on, let's discuss this!" Nate pleaded just as Lane shot him.
Back upstairs, Sara and Amaya were marching through the ship.
"I thought this was a time machine. You saved the Justice Society, why can't you save Rex?" Amaya asked her.
"Because we're dealing with time travelers. If we go back and save Rex, the time travelers will just go back before then and kill Rex again, so instead of chasing our own tails, let's try and identify who this Black Cat's partner is." Sara tells her. "In the meantime, Gideon will bring you home."
"I'm not going back until Rex's killer is brought to justice." Amaya warns Sara.
"We don't know how long that'll take. Don't worry, we're professionals." Sara promised her just as they heard an explosion from the hanger. They both raced down to see what's happened and saw Lane was shooting a steeled up Nate.
"If Grandpa Heywood could see me now." Nate said cheerfully.
Lane spun around and shoot him again, only for the blast to vanish upon impact.
"Guess it's not the same as actual steel, otherwise these would be reflect off of you." Lane shrugged as Ray began firing on him as well.
"Professionals?" Amaya asked Sara.
"Ish..." Sara confessed.
Ray blasted Nate again, and it left little to no damage on him.
"Oh, I know you aren't going to take that, Ray. Crush the Tin Man!" Peter cheered from the sideline with Jax.
Ray went in and charged at Nate but was met with little to no damage as he rammed him. Nate then smacked him again, but this time he sent Ray flying into the doors of the ship and making it break open.
The entire team grabbed onto anything they could in order to not get sucked into the Temporal Zone.
"Hold on! I'll close it!" Nate offered as he ran to the controls and ended up crushing the door handle with his steel hands.
"We should've seen that coming." Peter confessed as he used his fingers to stay attached to the floor and held Jax with his other hand. Working fast, Peter shot a web at Ray before he fell out and yanked him inside.
Lane pulled out a grapple hook and rope from his belt and quickly and carefully aimed it at the door and shot it as it helped him pull it close as Peter used another web to pull the door close. Once then, Peter shot several more strands of webbing to keep the door close.
"Great work!" Sara cried as they ran out of the hanger and into the seats where Stein and Mick were already at.
"What's happening?" Stein asked the group.
"Jax, what's our status?" Sara asked as Jax went to fix the engines before they blew from the compression.
"I've rerouted power from the secondary manifolds." Jax tells her as more sparks go off around them.
"How is it possible you people haven't managed to kill yourselves yet?" Amaya asked the team.
"The day's still young." Mick commented.
The ship shook and Jax was able to get them under control and the ship stopped shaking.
"Gideon, how's the damage?" Sara asked the AI.
"The explosive decompression caused us to lose corrective altitude, which put too much strain on the station-keeping thrusters." Gideon informed them how the ship got damaged.
"For god's sake, just say it how it is. We're screwed." Mick demanded her.
"We're screwed."
