After the fallen of Beacon, team RWBY was separated. Everyone has paths they need to walk, but something is different. Ruby is acting strange after she wake up. Now she is always talking about magic and explosions.

7. PENNY - Report

Penny POV

Interior. Camp in the crater. Night.

I arrived at this camp thanks to Ruby. Ruby rescued me and took me with her. Team RWBY appeared a few moments after the power of the winter maiden was transfer to me. At the moment, a feeling called fear to overpower me. My articulation shake, the reason: First was the possibility that my friends will think that I killed the previous Winter Maiden. Second, the idea of Winter Schnee hating me for taking the power of the Winter Maiden. My projection of the results was inconclusive. It is known that people change their point of view about their world depending on their previous experience. Ruby Rose, was the first person that become my friend, but it has passed too much time since we last saw, her new experiences and the current situation may change her perception of me. Fortunately, Ruby still believed me and took me with her.

The current situation now is the next: My father is checking the information on a computer. Yang, Blake, and Jaune are sitting on the couch in silence. Ruby was sitting in a chair in the dining room, next to her was a woman with black hair and crimson eyes. Ruby referred to that woman as ReiRei-san. Weiss is sitting next to Ruby, at the head of the table. In front of Ruby are Nora and Ren. Myself is standing next to my father and watching at the dining table. Joanna Greenleaf, part of the team Happy Huntress, was standing next to the door.

The room where we a located is small. The couch is too close to the dining room. A door in the Dining room is the one that took you outside the house.

There is silence in the room, except for the typing of my father. But you can hear people from outside from time to time. Then Ruby started to talk

Ruby

Why is called the Atlas Kingdom?

Weiss

Pardon?

Ruby

It doesn't have a king. How could it be a kingdom?

Weiss

This is not the time for that.

Nora

Now that I think about it. She has a point.

Blake

What are we going to do?

ReiRei-san

We continue with the plan.

Blake

And let all these people die?

Yang

That would be the same as Ironwood.

ReiRei-san

After that discussion, Ruby frowns her face. Then She gave an option.

Ruby

Why don't we relocate them all?

Yang

Ruby

We send them with Yang's father.

If that person is in the safest place, I am all right with that. With all honestly, I won't feel at ease if we put them in a bandit camp. No offense.

It stands for "MeBWNY New Revolution".

ReiRei-san

Either way. I would need to rest. If we are going to that plan, I will need all strength to open a portal that can last long for everyone to enter.

Right! Team MBWNY NR, you will be deployed in the city. As soon as you are fully recovered from your last battle. Your leader will remain with me to coordinate everything.

In the room, everybody followed Ruby's orders. My nature as a gynoid made it possible for me to keep operative for a longer time, but I followed the orders of Ruby.

Interior. Camp in the crater. Day.

Everybody was standing around the table in the dining room, Fiona Thyme was at the head of the table. She explained the maps and the points of interest. The order was to separate ourselves into two teams.

At the moment of the explanation, my scroll started to ring. The call was from General Ironwood. I turned my head to the others. I was nervous and unsure of what to do, then I saw Ruby's face. Ruby gestured with her head for me to answer the call. So I did.

General Ironwood

Hello Penny. I am worried about your safety. Tell me where you are, and I will pick you have right away. Atlas needs you, Penny. Salem is here.

Ruby took the scroll from my hands.

Ruby

Lies are the weapon of the malicious. And for the safety of this world, Penny will not work with someone like that. She may be made of metal, but her metal is harder than simple Iron. She also possesses a soul, a soul of a hero. And a Hero does not follow the orders of a power seeker such as yourself. She is a hero that follows only a major Hero and saves people. Ruby answered General Ironwood, and after her words, I felt relieved. Ruby has changed, and her personality is different. Compared to how she was, her fear and doubt were reduced dramatically.

Ruby put me with Yang, Jaune, Nora, and Ren, but she put Nora in charge. Her reasoning was that it was Jaune's innocence that made the problem escalate. Nora, in Ruby's words, is a person that can take a team to greatness. Before getting out, ReiRei-san said:

I do not have any data of a ReiRei-san in my data. But I do have information about a person named Raven, which matches her description. But I will not doubt my friends.

Outside. Mentle. Sector 7. Day

The streets in Mentle are almost empty. People that were not transported to Atlas do not leave their houses. But due to the sound that I produced while flying, some of the kids and their parents got out.

Across the street, another sound happened. Grimm attacked, and some people were running from it. A simple attack from my laser destroyed them. That attack made my partners question how much safety we could provide.

Nora

Safe enough. Jaune can amplify Ren's semblance, and we can have a simple walking to the Crater.

After saying those words, all the people were more relaxed. All of them, except for one old woman that asked in a prejudiced voice.

Old Woman

Do we really got a shack up with those animals down in the slums? I would feel a lot safer being up in Atlas.

Nora

Ren good news! One person less. And Old woman, have fun climbing to Atlas. Let see if they care about you as the Faunus do.

Young Woman

Wait. Are you going to leave my mom?

Nora

We are not going to left anyone. But if she does not want to come, she doesn't have to do it. But if she does, she has to respect the Faunus and everyone else.

Young Woman

She will! She will!

After that, we took a big group of people back to the crater. And while we were escorting the people, news arrived from the team that lead ReiRei-san. They could clear a big group of Gimm on the east side of Mentle. Ruby is leading us in the camp. Her leadership can be compared to General Ironwood, but unlike him, she hears the others, specially ReiRei-san.

Interior. Camp in the crater. Afternoon.

At our arrival, we were asked to go together with the others inside. The information came from a small group that was sent outside the kingdom. They wanted to know if it would be safer to move to another location, outside the rage of Atlas, with a better position to defend ourselves in case of an assault from General Ironwood. But the information they gave us was worse. Grimm is in the wild, and it seems that some Grimm has the intelligence to command the others. Apparently, there is a river made of Grimm. The direction of that river is here.

ReiRei-san

What is the current information on their numbers?

Fiona

Currently. An estimate of 500.

ReiRei-san

What kind of species?

Fiona

Mostly the flying type.

ReiRei-san

They are after the Staff.

Jaune

Will they want to go after Penny or you?

Ruby slapped her forehead with her hand. She looked annoyed by the comment.

Ruby

Jaune. Did you forget what the genie told us?

Ren

What do you mean?

Ruby

Ozmar already tried to attack Salem and failed. He did it several times. Guess who was helping him every single time?

Jaune

The maidens?

Ruby

Obviously! She may want to move away from the hassle by giving that power to one of her sub-bosses. But that is only to stop her from getting distracted. In reality, she does not care about the power of the Maidens, as it is still too weak to can defeat them.

Yang

How do you know that?

Ruby

If the power of the maidens was enough. Your mom would have already sized that power and destroyed Salem. She already knew the location of the maidens and has always been strong enough to defeat them. But she didn't do it, because her intellect as a Crimson Demon helped her know that it will be only a waste of time.

I register this information, Ruby has become more intelligent. She may have surpassed General Ironwood. Everybody thought that the power of the maidens was something so great that could help us defeat Salem. Another question arose from Nora.

Nora

Then, why everybody thought that it was too important.

Ruby

Because it is still too powerful against the average huntsman. That power corrupted Ozma and Ironwood. Good thing that the Crimson Demons are born with a lot of power already. This is why ReiRei-san did not succumb to the temptation. And for our favorite automaton, she cannot be corrupted by the power, because she was not created to do that.

Ruby let everyone know that she trusts me. I corrected myself and made my adjustments, so I would not let her down.

The door opened, and a man in white with a pilot uniform entered and salute ReiRei-san. Weiss, after all this, began to speak, having hit the table with her hand.

Weiss

Can we go back to the current situation? Ms. Raven. Is there a possibility to can go to Atlas?

Yang

Why would you want to go back there?

Weiss

Because My mom and brother are still there! And also, thousands of people.

Weiss reffered to ReiRei-san as Raven, and she did not mind. And after Weiss said about her family traped in Atlas, ReiRei-san nod to the Pilot man that just entered.

Pilot Man

We can. But you should be the one to know-how.

The pilot man just smirked, and Weiss looked with a confused face at him.

Pilot man

Snowshoe shipping.

Could you elaborate?

Weiss

Snowshoe shipping, a subsidiary of the Schnee company. It works to can deliver the dust to a specific location at Atlas. The factory is worked by robots that respond to the Schnee company only, and not the military.

Ren

The problem will be to make all of the people come down here.

ReiRei-san

You have 24 hours to go there and take most of the people you can. Put them in one spot. I will open a portal at that moment. Megumin, Weiss, Yang, Blake, and Penny. You go together.

After the order of ReiRei-san, we went out of the camp.

Outside. Atlas. Night.

The arrival to the Schnee Mansion was completed. Although it was made with some complications. The reason: we were sent on a tube directly to the mansion. Weiss took care of her brother. After a place was selected, we were separated into teams of two: Yang went with Blake, and Ruby with me. Weiss stayed behind to can make everything work in her mansion.

Our plan is to report every hour of our status. At this moment, I decided to ask Ruby for information that confused me.

Penny

Ruby, I want to ask you something.

My question was ignored.

Penny

Ruby?

I started to check my data files. I could not find anything that may have done to make her ignore me. Human feelings are subjects that I must understand because I want my friends to be happy. Currently, no explanations were found in my data. So I run a test of information of the recent memory. I have a possible solution, but the probability for it to be the answer is very low. Unfortunately, I do not have another answer for this problem, so I did my best.

Penny

Megumin?

Ruby… Megumin

Penny

Ah… Did you decide to change your name?

Megumin

No, that is my name since birth. But of course, an automaton will not know the information of the other realms. Ok, let me tell you. But please, record this information as it is of vital importance.

I was chosen by your gods to save this world. I came from a world where I was the pinnacle and environment of magical power. I, alongside my party members, defeated multiple enemies to restore peace back then. And now is time to do the same in this world. Such is the path of a proud Crimson Demon. In your world, history will be written with my name. As I, Megumin, archmage who controls the most powerful magic, the explosion magic, will save the world from its evil monsters and tyrants.

The moment she told me she made a pose. A heroic pose. She wouldn't lie to me. I have no previous information of other "realms", but my programming was made so I can learn. Ruby may not be this person. That will explain the modification of her personality. After making some calculations, with way too many variables unknown, I arrived at one conclusion. Megumin can also be called a friend.

Outside. Schnee Mansion. Early Morning.

After a small breakfast for the team and the people we could convince, a big group of flying ships passed through the skies. A big earthquake happened for a couple of seconds. The team hold me back before I could fly in the high to see what happened. Megumin climbed on my back and then I flew over the mansion. I saw a Giant Grimm. A Grimm with a form of a whale.

Megumin pointed at the whale.

Megumin

Go close to the monster. My time to shine has come.

Penny

Are you sure?

Megumin

If you decided to side with us, means that you know the risks. But worry not, as I, the champion of this world, will defeat that monster.

I did not find any hesitation in her. My system realized that this situation has given her motivation. The power of the winter maiden was bestowed on me. So I thought that if anything happens, I should be able to handle it. We have a 51% of chance of survival. But with this reasoning of Megumin, I decided to obey her orders.

Outside. Atlas agriculture area. Early Morning.

I flew with Megumin in my back. on our way to our current position, she told me, that I could make a good Explosive Friend. I don't know what it means but is great that she wants to be my friend.

Megumin

Land there. Where I can see my pray.

I followed her orders, and we landed on a small hill. Monsters of Grimm were running wild from the mouth of the whale Grimm. Megumin stepped in front of me. She proceeded to dramatically take her weapon. Then she started to say some kind of conjuration. And while she was speaking, the area where we were, turned into a dark blue. Multiple colors started to appear around us. An orb appeared in the curve of the scythe of Megumin. The wind started to blow frantically. This meteorological scene was impossible to archive, but everything seemed to be happening because of Megumin.

Megumin

I choose the righteous path of Justice. I possess the power of the explosion. I use my power to destroy those who decide to go against what is true and right. The Fire will burn your sins, and the power will erase your creations. Bow down to the greatest magic. EX-PLO-TION.

After she completed the conjuration, different mystical circles appeared over the whale Grimm. Suddenly a line appeared in the middle of the circles. It looked that it pierced the whale. Immediately after that, a big explosion happened. My first response was to take Megumin and cover her. My system warned me against flying due to the strong wind blowing.

Dust for the explosion was everywhere. The Grimm was no more. Even the small ones were destroyed. Megumin was again on my back, and she give me her thumb up.

Megumin

Let's go back with the others.

She ordered me, and I comply. She really is a hero.

Outside. Schnee Mansion. Early Morning.

At our arrival, the team was waiting for us. Yang and Weiss had their arms crossed.

Weiss

Where were you?

Megumin

Penny

We went where the whale was. There were hundreds of small Grimm and the whale. But Megumin, with one attack, could destroy all of them. The sky went dark. Different colors appeared. And Magumin said a magical spell, and after she was done, an explosion happened. It was the most unbelievable thing I ever see.

While explaining what happened, I forgot that I was carrying Megumin, so she fell to the ground.

Yang

I knew that the explosion was from her.

Blake

And why is she like that

Yang

Don't worry. She collapses every time she uses her magic. She will be ok

When I heard the voice, my system recognized it. But I did not want to believe she was there. Still, I turned my head to where the voice was coming from. In the garden, sitting on the ground, next to the wall, was Winter and the Ace Ops. All of them were with handcuffs in their hands and legs.

Yang

Their plane crashed due to the explosion. When we arrived they were unconscious.

Winter

Does she have the power of the maidens?

Megumin

Such power is nothing compared to the magic I possess. But of course, I follower of a power seeker will not understand. Now. Penny! Take me to the kitchen. I am starving.

I salute Megumin as if she was the general and carried her to the kitchen.

Interior. Schnee Mansion. Morning.

After breakfast, Megumin was able to stand by herself again. But from our scrolls appeared some news. General Ironwood sent an ultimatum. He demanded that I should go back at him. If I refuse, he will launch a bomb on Mentle.

The news was broadcasted to all the scrolls in the king… in the country of Atlas. My correction was made, after the insistence of Megumin to not call Atlas a Kingdom. This news was also heard by the elite ops. Harriet was happy, everyone else had different reactions: doubt, fear, sadness.

Because of this news, a meeting was called. Raven opened a portal, but only Megumin passed. After a few minutes, she came back with Jaune, Ren, and Nora. The portal was not close right away, because Megumin asked us to throw the Ace ops through it. After we did it, Megumin told us the plan:

He wants Penny back. Well, we will make her go. But she will come back with us. He thinks that the power of the Staff will save him, he thinks that he can take everything from the people and keep it for him. I said, that we can also play that game. We will open the vault and take the Staff, and create a portal like the ones used by ReiRei-san. That way, we can take the citizens in Atlas. He can be the king of an empty kingdom.

Jaune

What about the people in the crater?

Megumin

ReiRei-san is already sending them with Yang's dad. That is why we are going to send everybody to another location. Apparently, the place is already crampy in the place where Yang's dad is.

Nora

Yang's dad? I have been to trying to not ask this but. I know that you have a new persona for this crazy thing. Jaune told us that you are doing this weird thing after the fallen of beacon for the trauma. But why won't you call your dad "dad"?

Megumin glared at Jaune. Then she opened her weapon, and when the scythe released itself, it punched Jaune between his legs. The face of the other members was of pity.

Megumin

First, I have no new personas. I am myself. Megumin, archmage of the Crimson Demon clan and wielder of the Explosion magic. Second. My father is Hyoizaburoo.

It seems that the name of her father was weird.

Yang

Either way. Back to the plan, please.

Megumin

Coff Coff. As I was saying. We are going to open the vault. We will use the staff to teleport the people to the country called Vacuo.

Ren

You mean. The kingdom of Vacuo?

Taking into account the 122 different scenarios, where only 34 have the outcome we need, the possibilities are against us. But we can still be able to make the 27.86885245901639% work.

We were able to enter the Academy without much problem. The duct system of the Schnee company helped us again. Inside the Academy, I was able to connect to the system and get the complete layout of the place.

One of the first things I was asked is to locate Ironwood. That way we can create a distraction to can have more time to work. I located Ironwood in the room where five people were held captive: Jacques Schnee, Qrow Branwen, Robyn Hill, Oscar Pine, and Mercury Black. Charges for Oscar Pine, Qrow Branwen, and Robyn Hill are insubordination, and for attacking to a higher rank, the specification said that they went against Ironwood's order of bombarding the crater. Mercury Black has terrorism charges and is linked to the massacre that happened in the "Winning party" of Robyn Hill. And Jacques Schnee was captured for the election's fraud.

Yang asked me to open the cells, so Iron will have to face all of them at the same time. I deactivate their cells. With that, it will give us around 35min. Time enough as we only needed 6min to arrive from our current position.

When we arrived at the Vault, a cool breeze blew. Inside was plains of grass and in the middle the staff. Megumin whispered something but I could not hear what it was. Weiss took the staff. Suddenly a muscle man appeared. He was wearing gold chains around his body and has long hair with a ponytail. All of his body was blue.

Creature

Seems that somebody has come to engage my creative wiles! All I say is, it had better be worth it after my last project. A floating city? How pedestrian.

Yang

Well, I don't know about that. Let me just ask you. Can you make a bunch of doorways in Atlas that open at a single spot in Vacuo?

Creature

Of course, I can.

Blake

Really?

Creature

Yes. I'll just need coordinates and specs of each door, an explanation for bending space and time to account for the much greater traffic on one side, and the single point of exit on the other.

Yang

What? Can't you just create them? Aren't you a magical being?

Blake

Calm Yang.

Megumin

That would be no problem.

Creature

Oh, really? Well, you have my attention girl. By appearance, I never assume that you will be the brains of the group.

Megumin

I am the leader of this group. Of course, I know how to solve this problem.

The whole group, including the magical blue creature, was watching Megumin.

Megumin

Penny. Please explain to him.

Yang

Megumin

Creature

The creature got close to me. After making a brief calculation, I made a small plan with a diagram of how these portals can work. I based this theory on Ruby's semblance, where she was able to run faster due to her power to disintegrate herself in a particular scale and reintegrate in another point. With this idea in mind, each door will be like a computer that will receive the information of each person who passes through it, and it will be deintegrated and reintegrated through the other side. Weiss came to me and asked if we could create a central location. This location was selected to be inside the vaults, for major security. After I complete the creation of the design, I passed the information to the scroll of Weiss and show it to the magical creature.

Once we showed the reference to the Magical creature, it started to make some weird moves with his hands. Then a door made of light was showing behind us.

Is done. Everything looks to be in order. You were quite thorough, disappointingly so.

Everyone smiled at each other. Then the magical creature said something else.

Creature

Oh, and one last point of clarification about this central location of yours.

Megumin

Central location?

Creature

Do not fall. Okay, and with that wire warning.

After that, the magical creature disappeared.

Megumin

Penny. Tell me, what did he mean with central location?

Penny

Oh. Weiss told me that we needed a central location so they can transport themselves.

Megumin

Weiss

Blake calmed Megumin and Weiss. Perhaps I should have asked Megumin. She has been telling us the correct steps to overcome everything.

When we passed the door in front of us, we arrived at a place with a lot of doors. There were many paths, and near the center, a bigger path with a giant door. It looked exactly like the schemes I designed. People were starting to walk through the doors. From one door, team JNR appeared and started to go to the different doors. The staff was given to me. Megumin told me with a stern voice.

Megumin

Go to the door that is for the Vacuo country.

I noded.

Yang

Remember what you have to do?

Penny

Yes. I should protect the people of Atlas and help them until you arrive with the last person. In an extreme situation, I should help the people to arrive at the nearest city.

Megumin

Do not follow any other instructions. Maybe just from ReiRei-san, but only her.

Penny

Of course.

I was going to fly to the door, but a big explosion happened in the center of the room. Megumin looked at Weiss with a very serious face. Then she sighed.

Megumin

Penny, go to the door as fast as you can.

Penny

But…

Megumin

Your concern is unfounded. This enemy is only a sub-boss. Yes, it will be quite the battle. But her purpose is only to give me the experience needed to can defeat Salem. But my victory will be sour if people die, if we can not secure the relics of the old gods, and if they gain your powers. You are the key to our victory.

She put her hands on my shoulders.

Megumin

You need to survive and let the people know about my great achievements as the savior of this world.

I nod at her again. To follow his instructions and not draw the attention of the people who were attacking, I ran and then began to fly from under the roads. I was able to see the whole scenario. People running in fear. The guy called Mercury Black was there pushing people down the paths. And in the air was Cinder Fall, the Fall maiden. I wanted to go and fight her, but Megumin gave me specific instructions. I will believe in her, but that does not mean that I won't see what is happening.

Weiss and Megumin were helping people that were close to falling. Blake was fighting Mercury, and Yang was fighting Cinder. Yang was with her fire hair, and although she could not fly, she was able to jump and fight her, but it was clear that Cinder was not taking the fight seriously.

When I turned to see Megumin I saw how a woman pushed Megumin from the back. That woman changed her appearance suddenly, her hair turned half brown and half pink. Weiss used her glyphs and Megumin could stand in it and then jump to another path. After that Weiss and that woman started to fight each other.

Blake was overpowering Mercury, her speed was too much for him. Every time that looked like he was able to punch her, Blake's body broke and she appeared on another side. Blake could make a sequence of hits. A punch in his stomach, an uppercut, a spinning kick to his legs. But when she was going to give him the last hit, a fireball passed too close to her head.

Cinder was flying very high. Yang could not reach her and was trying to distract her sending bullets with dust, without luck. Cinder, after sending that fireball to Blake, made another explosion. Some people fall from the lanes because of that attack. At falling the people disappeared. I saw Megumin also seeing the people falling. Then Megumin went with Weiss who was trying to recover herself. I could not hear exactly what Maguming said to Weiss, but she answered with a scream saying: "Are you crazy?!".

I saw Nora helping people to go through the giant door. Jaune tried to help Yang to fight Cinder. He was crying. Yang used Jaune's shield to impulse herself and get closer to Cinder. Cinder received all the attacks from Yang with her torso, she was only covering her face, then she opened her arms and a blast of fire send Yang to the floor, close to the edge of the lane. Cinder took one of her swords and went against Yang, but Jaune used his own sword and protected Yang, but in the process, Jaune's sword broke. Then from behind, Nora punched Cinder with her hammer.

Weiss was still trying to fight the woman with the brown and pink hair. That woman tried again and again to attack Megumin, but Weiss always appeared to rescue her. In the room, now just a few people were there. Nora came closer to me and said:

Nora

This should be the last group. Ren should be on the other side helping the people.

I turned to see Megumin. And she looked at me. She pointed me at the door with an angry expression. Now in this room was only: team MWBY, Jaune, me, Cinder, Mercury, and the girl with brown and pink hair. Suddenly a big groan sounded. Cinder went with Megumin and grabbed her. She then lifted Megumin with her in the air.

Cinder

Where are the relics?

Megumin only smirk. She took her scythe and opened it between her and Cinder. She fell directly to the abysm. When I saw her, for a moment I tried to go for her.
