"The Good Ole Days"

The sound of fire crackling and television disturbed Yuki's slumber, much to his surprise.

He rubbed his eyes and squinted in confusion.

"What the-wasn't I just in the car?"

A few seconds and Yuki felt the familiarity around him.

"Hi sleepy head" Shigure purred.

"...don't tell me Haru carried me in from the car..." Yuki growled.

"He cares for you Yuki. We all care for you"

"Ugggghhh" Yuki rolled over and faced the wall, feeling a bit violated.

"Cheer up Yuki! We are going to have a great supper! Watch some tv, maybe go out and start a campfire..."

Yuki sat and sighed. Maybe he should cheer up a bit. He remembered, his worst day was someone else's best.

"Ok. Lets make it a night" Yuki smiled slightly.

Shigure made his way to the doorway smiling. "I'll go help Haru get the bags from the car."

That slight smile meant a lot to his older cousin.

An hour later the young men were enjoying their ginger pork and strawberries. Haru started a campfire with his lighter.

It was pretty cold out. The forecast was calling for snow.

Yuki looked up at the cloudy sky, enjoying the ambiance, and the fact they were so far from civilization. It was such a chaotic time. Yuki was glad to hide from it all, but he wanted Tohru with him. He would have felt so much more content if she were there.

Yuki stood up and stretched and walked to the edge of the spindles.

"Hey Yuki! We found some marshmallows leftover in the cabinets!" Shigure gleamed.

"Did you check the expiration date?" Yuki asked.

"Expired a year and a half ago"

"Fire 'em up." Yuki said as he grabbed a stick.

Yuki was usually pretty fastidious about his food and health, but he figured if he was going to probably catch a virus

he might as well toughen up and not think about little things so much.

It was hard for him. His hypochondria was hitting full swing these days. The pandemic was not helping.

Yuki placed the marshmallow on his stick and watched it burn.

He imagined himself on that stick, getting burned by life.

He must of not have been too good at hiding his emotions.

Haru scooched up closer to Yuki and put his jacket around him.

"I'm good Haru" Yuki removed himself from Haru's embrace and sat on the other side of the fire.

Haru looked hurt. Yuki started to feel a little bad.

It was starting to snow now, hard.

Yuki picked up the bottle of Saki and poured into his cup like a natural.

"Easy there Yuki...aren't you tired enough from all those night shifts you're pulling?"

"I'm used to it."

Yuki looked at the two of them. Could one of them been carrying the virus? He was starting to get paranoid.

He started to wonder if he should hold his breath around them. Maybe wear a mask.

Who was he kidding? He probably caught it already Falling asleep in the car, Haru carrying him in, probably kissed him on the lips-
Yuki took a bigger shot of his Saki.

He was thinking too much again.

Shigure sensed the tension once again. "So...what should we talk about guys? Our sex lives?"

Haru looked off into space. "Mine is good." he replied, in typical emotionless Haru fashion.

"You Yuki?"

Yuki gave Shigure a death stare.

"Oh? Not too good then Yuki?"

Yuki broke his stare and walked over to the spindles and stared out into the woods again.

Shigure whispered to Haru.

Yuki heard the tail end of his whispering "...show him a good time..."

Yuki cocked his head back "What are you two planning?"

"Nothing!" Shigure smiled.

Before they knew it, four inches of snow had covered the ground.

Yuki was still wondering what they had planned. Shigure and Haru had went inside, leaving Yuki alone with thoughts.

He got out a mirror and checked his eyelids. He was starting to get paranoid, thinking he was anemic, along with all the other sicknesses he worried about during times of stress.

He started to wonder if maybe he already had the virus. Maybe he did and it was causing long term damage.

He stared out into the twilight sky, wondering what Tohru was doing. How was she feeling?

He naysayed all the beauty around him. The snow falling, the pink and purple sky, the sound of the fire crackling...
it was beautiful.

Then he started to feel guilty for not appreciating what he had.

"YUKI! Look what we have!" Shigure skipped out from the back door, Haru behind him.

Three sleds. So that's what they had planned.

Yuki was pleasantly surprised. He thought maybe Shigure would call some hookers or something. Maybe that was the plan,
but with the snow and all they couldn't come. It didn't matter. Yuki was overthinking as usual.

He felt a strange sense of gratefulness. He would tell they really wanted to cheer him up.

They hiked to a steep hill where they all used to go.

Yuki remembered the times they used to go sledding in their high school days. Tohru loved it, even if she was afraid of going down the steep hills.

Yuki remembered a time they both sled down a hill together, just the two of them. She was nervous. He sat behind her and wrapped his arms around her to keep her safe. They didn't make it the bottom though. Tohru flared around her arms in fear before they both fell over from the sled, both laughing in the snow.

Yuki smiled. It was a memory he would love to relive.

Well he as about to.

While Yuki was in dream state, Haru grabbed him, threw him on the sled, and said "Hold on sweetie...I'll protect you".
Yuki looked back at him with disgust as Haru used his legs to start projecting them down the hill.

Yuki tried to put down his legs to stop them from going down the hill. "I-let me go by myself Haru-"

"Don't worry Yuki. I got this"

Yuki's legs were no match for any part of Haru. Haru won the sled fight and soon they were gliding down the hill.

Yuki's adrenaline went into overdrive. They were going crazy fast. Yuki wanted to throw himself overboard but Haru's strong arms kept him at bay.

"LET ME GO YOU OX ASS!" Yuki screamed

Shigure sat on his sled atop the hill with a bottle of Saki in his hand, laughing uncontrollably.

They landed in a small ditch, without any damage thankfully.

Yuki was still trapped in Haru's arms.

"Wasn't that nice Yuki?"

"GET OFF ME ALREADY"

This was starting to get old.

"Haru...listen...I like women. I think..."

A picture of Machi popped into his mind.

"You think?..." Haru's brow lifted.

"Yes...yes! I'm sure! I'm only into women. You have to stop this, I-"

"I like women too Yuki. It doesn't mean I don't-"

BAM! The conversation came to a halt

Suddenly a very lit Shigure slammed into a tree next to them.

They must have been too busy to notice the drunken ex-dog come flying down the hill on his sled after them.

"Ooooohhhhh..." Shigure moaned

Yuki and Haru ran over quickly to inspect their cousin.

Shigure had cuts on his leg and arms.

"He'll be fine" Haru said with relief..."let's go back and bandage him up".

Haru lifted the man over his shoulders.

"Let's go back Yuki. You're nose is red. I don't want you catching anything."

Yuki realized that he needed a woman more like Haru.

Haru and Tohru had a lot in common, Yuki realized. They both cared for him, unconditionally. They were always looking out for his interests over their own.

If only Haru had lady parts.

Fun fact: I am sitting here writing a fan fiction that I started almost four year ago. When I started writing this,
Fruits Basket was long past it's heyday. Then boom, a new anime comes out.

I STILL have not watched it. Life just gets in the way. I've had so much craziness happen this past four years. I saw the first couple episodes like a year ago. I barely remember them. I don't know what I'm going here right now.
