CH 1.5 Even a Devil gets a 2nd Chance
Events in this chapter take place before chapter 1. This chapter explain how Vergil got there.
The brother joined forces to cut down the tree, however time rekindles their rivalry.
In an open field in the demon world, two warriors face off to settle an old rivalry. The Sons of Sparda: The Alpha and Omega Vergil and The Legendary Devil Hunter Dante have an intense sparring match. Sparks were flying as they traded blows. Dante managed to land strong blow pushing Vergil back.
"That's it, time to die!" Vergil shouted as he charged towards Dante and attacked.
"You're like an open book, I can read your every move." Dante taunted Vergil while dodging and blocking his attacks.
"Too easy!" Dante thrust his sword, landing a blow strong enough to push Vergil back despite him blocking it. Vergil caught his breath while down on one knee.
"Score for Dante! I'm up one!" Dante pointed out, still tired from their previous battles that day.
"Where did you learn to count? We're even!" Vergil calling Dante out. Dante let out a disappointed grunt as sat on ground.
"You know, I'm beginning to think, this is never going to end." Dante explained while resting on the ground.
"Maybe, at least we got plenty of time." Vergil had a cheerful expression on his face for the first time in a long time.
The two brothers got back on their feet, both were exhausted but that did not stop them. Vergil, with two hands on the Yamato, which was resting on his shoulder, assumed a stance to prepare to charge forward. Dante with his the Legendary Dante, assumed his stance as well. The two then charged towards each other and their blades collided. Sparks flew as the two brothers traded more blows with each other.
Eventually their blades locked again when a horde of demons appeared, interfering in their battle. The brothers noticed the demons and began to attack them. Each brother took out the demons in their own stylish way. A Judah demon appeared within the horde of demons. Dante twirls out Ebony and Ivory in a stylish manner, however the Judah knocks Ivory out of Dante's hands.
Though, Vergil managed to catch Ivory while its twirling, then tosses it from behind his back and then catches it again before pointing it at the Judah. Dante with a shock expression, then he just chuckled.
"Well look at you! Remember what we used to say as kids?" Dante looked and Vergil.
"Hmph!" snorted Vergil while looking at Dante.
"JACKPOT!" both shouted *BANG* *BANG*
"Hell yeah, that's what I'm talking about." Dante shouts with excitement and Vergil tossed Ivory back at him. The two both go back to battling the demon horde. Dante then brings up a rather interesting topic for them to talk about while still fighting.
"Hey Vergil, since you got the power that you always wanted now, if you could go back in time, would you do things the same or different?" he asked while slicing through some demons.
"You're going to have to be more specific about that." Vergil replied while also slicing through some demons.
"You know, fall in love or save the world or something like that."
"No. Also I don't care much about the world." He replied while cut a few demons in half.
"Oh really, let jog your memory then. Vergil walking down the street, picking up some Fourtuna booty and left it." Dante replied as he stabbed a Fury in the chest, tossing it in the air and then kicking it towards Vergil.
Vergil noticed the dead Fury and cut it in half. Then Vergil does a back-flip and spins his body similar to Dante's raining bullets, throws Yamato like a boomerang, slicing threw the Hell Bats flying in the air. Vergil lands on his feet and catches Yamato with ease and walks towards Dante.
"I see you surrounded by women, yet you have done nothing with them." Vergil replied and launches two demons at Dante. Dante dodges on and slices the other in half.
"What you lack is this.." a heart form behind Dante. Vergil just look at Dante with a 'Are you serious expression?' expression.
"I think if you had a chance to experience some of that, it would add some perspective to you. The only love you knew was mom's. Also try saving the world at least once isn't that bad." Dante explained
"Tsk, you don't pull your punches do you. Well, if there was a chance by some strange coincidence, then I would do it."
"What kind of woman or women do you like?" Dante asked as they both dashed pasted each other thrusting demons.
"Are you seriously asking me this now?" Vergil asking Dante while looking to over his shoulder.
"I just found out that my cold blooded brother still has some warmth inside him. So, yes, I am asking you right now." Dante replied while slicing through more demons.
"*Sigh*" Vergil just shook his head.
The brothers continue to battle the horde of demons. After a while they finally took care of all the demons that were in the area.
"A warrior of some sort, but still has her womanly charms to her." Vergil answered Dante's question from earlier.
"Woo, hot damn!" Dante shouted with excitement. The wind began to pick all of a sudden. Suddenly a massive cloud of smoke was blowing in their direction.
"Is that a storm? I've never seen a storm like this in the demon world." Dante pointed out.
"Neither have I." Vergil stated. The massive storm clouds engulfed the brothers. Their vision was blocked by the clouds. The brothers called out to each other but there was no answer. When the stormed had settled, Vergil found himself standing in an open area and stars covering the upper area. He saw light emitting from the floor and fog covering up to his knees.
"What is this and where am I?" he asked himself.
"Welcome Vergil, Son of Sparda." Said a mysterious voice.
"Whose there?" Vergil asked while looking around.
An orb of light appeared before Vergil.
"I am Gaia, the Earth Mother." She replied
"Gaia huh. What business do you have with me?" Vergil asked.
"I've come here to seek your help and give you an opportunity." Gaia replied.
"Go on." Vergil was curious about this offer.
"My Earth is being threatened to extinction, by powerful beings. Beings that a normal human has no chance in defeating no matter how much they try. A group of people called Chaldea is fighting to preserve humanity. However, they are not strong enough. Unless something or someone other than humans helps them out. They will not survive the coming battles." Gaia explained. Gaia showing images of Chaldea.
"You are a son of the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda, who fought for humanity, for justice, despite being a demon himself."
"So you are aware about my lineage." Vergil replied
"Your brother Dante, Defeated Mundus and other powerful beings, your son Nero also played a part in saving the world. Yet you, haven't." Gaia pointed out.
"Tsk. So what." Vergil replied
"You were defeated by your brother, defeat by your father's arch nemesis, became a demon king, then lost to Dante and then Nero." Gaia pointed out.
*Sadistic*
"You don't pull you punches do you?" Vergil getting irritated.
"Stings don't it?" Gaia joking around.
Vergil let out a burst of demonic power, shaking the room and cracking the area they are in.
"However, not all is bad. You have become quite powerful much like your father. But you're still missing something. I believe your brother brought that up earlier." Gaia pointed out.
"!" Vergil thinking about to his conversation with Dante.
"What I'm offering is a chance to find that and more if you willing to do this. Think of this like a second chance." Gaia explained.
"Why me? I'm not my father or Dante or Nero. I'm not hero material." Vergil asked.
"I don't you need you to be a hero, I only need you to be better. You have the power now. So put it to good use for someone or something.
"Hmm, a 2nd chance huh? Interesting." Vergil expression changed as he said those words.
"Good, I'm glad to see you getting motivated ehehe." Gaia chuckled.
"Don't get so cocky." Vergil pointed out
"Anyway, I will have you join the Chaldea organization in place of another individual." Gaia shows a screen of Chaldea.
"Just how will I be joining this organization?" Vergil asked
"Oh that's simple, their last master will be killed in battle and you will take his place at this singularity." She explained. Vergil just looked at her like there is something wrong with Gaia.
"Let me explain. Chaldea will be attack and the cause will originate from this area at Fukuya city during a Holy grail war that went wrong. He will die saving someone and you will take his place. You need not worry about anything. They will perceive you as their master without any questions. However, if you want to undo this little spell, just tell them who you are. I'll take care of the rest once you arrive." Gaia explained. While watching the screen Vergil notice the capsules they used to transfer to the singularity.
"You should put a magic barrier around this capsule." Vergil pointed out.
"Why do you say that?" Gaia asked
"Just a gut feeling." Vergil replied
"Alright, so be it. Let me make preparation for your transfer. You will feel some side effects when you get there but they will be gone after a few days." Gaia put a magic barrier around the capsule.
"What kind of side effects?" Vergil asked.
"Parts from the previous memories and personalities, some nightmare and stuff?" Gaia explained with a smile.
"Great, more nightmares." Vergil grumbled.
They watch the events unfold on the screen. Chaldea had explosions taking out some personnel and other areas. Then Fujimaru and Mashu ray shifted to Fukiya City. There they found the entire city set ablaze like it was hell on Earth. Mashu just recently became a demi-servant and had not gotten used to fighting yet. Olga the director, was found from there she took charge of the investigation. Fujirmaru formed a contract with Lancer Medusa. Lancer informed them that she was the last servant that had not been defeated by Saber. Lancer also informed them that Saber, the King of Knights has been corrupted by the grail and all who she had defeated were corrupted as well.
Lancer's goal was to defeat Saber and bring an end to the Grail Wars. They defeated Caster and Archer and made their way to the last servant Saber located in a cave in the mountain near a shrine.
They entered the cave and made their way to the center. It was a vast and open area with a mysterious pillar of light at the center. Also at the center was Saber Alter waiting on top of another layer above the ground. Mashu had confirmed it to be the Holy Grail and Saber, the King of Knights. An intense pressure could be felt from center. Those who did not have to resolve to fight will be crushed by this pressure. Saber noticed the group entering the cave.
"Oh, so you've come. What an interesting servant you have with you, Let's see what your made of shall we?" Saber said as she stared at her prey ready to crush all.
*Unbearable Pressure- DMC5*
Saber leaped from her position to Mashu with insane speed and smacked her right into the wall. Fujimaru and Olga didn't even notice what just happened. The next moment Saber lunged towards Mashu for another hard strike, however this time Lancer began her own attack and intercepts Saber, sending her flying to the ground. Mashu falls off from the wall.
The two servants dash towards each other begin their fight both displaying their skill and power. Saber stomps the ground causing some large rocks to rise up, then she bats them towards Lancer with incredible power causing it to shatter. Lancer deflects the rocks and Saber uses this opening to land a hit but Lancer blocks the strike, and redirects it to the ground. Lancer sends Saber back with a powerful kick. Mashu coming back to her senses notices that her hands are bit shaky.
Fujimaru helps her calm down and allows her to join Lancer. It's now 2v1 and Saber is holding her own against both the servants by overwhelming them with raw power. She was disappointed with the fight and decided to bring it to an end. Saber's swords power up with mana, Lancer jumps behind Mashu who then puts up her shield as a guard.
"Swallow the Light! Promised Sword of Victory!" Saber chanted and then fires of her Noble Phantasm.
"Incoming magical signature, stay behind me!" Mashu shouted
Mashu shield barely held the attack, however she did her best to keep it up. Lancer and Fujimaru struggled to help Mashu hold the shield and Olga panicked for her life. Saber noticed their struggle and added a little more mana to her attack. An explosion happens and debris flew everywhere. Mashu, Lancer and Fujimaru barely stood up before Saber dashed out the smoke, with her sword powered by mana, smacking Mashu and Fujimaru to the ground with her strike.
Lancer charges for a counterattack, but Saber quickly responded by thrusting her sword into Lancer's shoulder making her scream in agony. Saber then pulls out her sword making blood splatter all around the area. Saber then smacks Lancer into the wall. Fujimaru notices Lancer being in danger and struggles to get up before running towards her. Saber now in strike range, Lancer back on the ground, she tries to grab her scythe but was stabbed. Saber without hesitation raises her swords and brings it down for the kill. Lancer closed her eyes. The sword hits and blood splattered everywhere. Lancer opened her eyes and see blood but it's not hers, it was Fujimaru's. With a deep sword wound from shoulder to waist, he falls backwards onto Lancer.
"SEENNPAII!" Mashu yelled.
"MASTER!" Lancer yells.
"RITSUKA!" Olga yells.
"Hmph, how dull." As Saber whips the blood off her sword.
"Why Master, why did you do something so stupid?" Lancer yelled. There was no answer from him, only him just spitting up some blood from his mouth. Mashu struggled to stand and fight, she was in tears as her master and senpai had been struck down. Before she could even move, Saber fires another mana blast knocking Mashu down. Saber turns her attention back to Lancer.
A few moments ago back at Gaia Domain
"Preparation are complete. You'll need to protect the body for a bit until the transfer is complete. Oh, what's this? The other soul wants to speak with you Vergil." Said Gaia before an apparition appeared before them.
"Please, one request from a dying man. Please save them all. I do not have the strength to help them."
"You show courage in the face of death. What is your name?" Vergil asked him.
"Fujimaru Ritsuka, from Chaldea." Fujimaru replied
"Fujimaru Ritsuka , I'll remember your name. As a Son of Sparda, I will fulfill your request." Vergil replied.
"Thank you." Fujimaru said as he disappeared.
"Here is a little bonus for you. *Snap*. Good luck out there, I'll be watching you." Gaia said. In a flash of light, Gaia transformed Vergil back in to his 21-year-old body.
"One last thing, you will want to condition your body with current power." Gaia pointed out.
"Hmph. They will soon know this devil's power. A power greater than they have ever known." Vergil said as he was being transferred.
Back at the Cave
Saber prepares to finish off Lancer.
"Don't worry, you will be accompanying him shorty." Saber prepared her sword, then goes to strike down Lancer. Suddenly a hand catches Saber's sword, stopping the strike.
"It would be troublesome if you killed everyone." Said Vergil.
"Impossible, you should be dead, who are you?" Saber shouts.
"No point telling you." replied Vergil.
The next moment Saber was hit Yamato from her shoulder to waist, blood and armor pieces flew everywhere, Saber let out a scream in pain and was pushed back. Fujimaru's body stood up and dark blue energy began to form around him. The next moment his body could no longer be seen, the dark blue energy took the shape of some sort dragonoid figure. (Sin Devil Trigger Dopplegangger).
"Tsk, this body is a little stiff. I'll need to end this quickly before the body gives out." Vergil thought to himself.
On the Precipices of Defeat-Bleach ost
Saber faces off with Vergil. She dashes towards Vergil and thrusts her sword, Vergil parries her attack, making it ineffective. Saber recovers and attacks again but Vergil continues to block her attacks. They begin to exchange blows and sparks flew. Vergil gains the upper hand and is slowing pushing Saber back, Vergil parries another attack, slashes her leg and a kick that pushes her back. She knows that she is in a bad shape but decided to finish things off in her next attack. She powers up her sword letting off an intense wind. Saber backed up enough to wipe out everyone at once.
"She is about to fire her Noble Phantasm and take us all out." Lancer yells to Vergil.
Vergil looked back at Lancer then looks back at Saber. He begins to walk towards Saber slowly. Saber's sword is charge up and she prepares to fire it off.
"Excalibur…" Saber shouts
"Down you go!" Vergil had fired several Perfect Judgment Cuts. All of them hit their target. Saber fell backwards onto the ground cover in blood and cuts.
"Heh, to think I lose to this mysterious being such as yourself, how troublesome. Are you here to laugh at me?" asked Saber. Vergil just stood there in silence.
"Silence? Is that all? I shall remember this. We will meet again, my intuition has never failed me." Saber said as she began to disappear with a smile on her face. Lancer walks to where Vergil is while stumbling along the path, but still made it to him.
"Master, is that really you?" Lancer asked him.
"Yes." Vergil replied.
The next moment Lancer's body began glow. It was a sign that the holy grail war was over. With her mission complete, Lancer then gave her master some parting words.
"My role here is done Master. It's been fun. If you manage to summon me again, summon me in my Rider class. I will show you what I can really do. Farewell my master." She said as her body began to fade and gave a head nod, she still had her hood on. Lancer whispered to herself,
"I hope we can meet again, so I can properly thank you for saving me." She whispered with a smile
"Until we meet again." He replied. Then the next moment Lancer was gone. Olga cautiously began to walk towards Vergil, trying to piece together everything that just happened. Mashu was still unconscious but was in no danger. Before Olga could call out to him, she heard a familiar voice.
"God you all make me sick. Why can't any of you do what your told?!" Leff Lynor burst out.
"Leff? You're alive? Oh thank God!" Olga began to run towards Leff with tears of joy. Vergil sensing this man was dangerous, appeared in front of Olga with his back to her.
"Hey! What's the big idea? It's Professor Leff." Olga shouted at Vergil.
Vergil craned his neck towards Olga and just glared at her. Olga became silent the next moment. Leff continued his angry outburst.
"Canidae 48, who and what the hell are you, Mashu becoming a demi servant and the most unexpected one is you, Olga. How are you still alive? You should be dead but here you are. Have you not noticed it yet?!" Leff said.
"I.. I.. I don't understand? Whats going on?" Olga in shock over the news she just heard.
Leff explained that the cause of the explosion was him and he placed a bomb right under her feet. So the moment she ray shifts back she will die. Leff then showed them the Shiva sphere and it showed no signs of humanity. Vergil thinking to himself that things could be a lot worse than Gaia thought they were, but he will find a way. However, for now, he had to deal with the problem at hand. Olga ran past Vergil towards Leff, denying that she is dead and that the image was fake along with everything he told. Leff moved his arms and Olga's body was lifted into the air. Olga has no way to get herself down, trying to reach Leff. Leff raised her into the air was preparing to send her towards the orange sphere.
"Noo! Someone save me! I don't want to die!" Olga cried and screamed with tears and reaching out for someone to grab her hand. While Leff focused on killing Olga, Vergil made his move. He fired a small summon sword at Leff's blind spot. Leff noticed it and smacked it away, and in that instant, Vergil appeared in front of him and cuts off his arm before kicking him in the chest sending Leff flying backwards.
Olga begins to free fall making Vergil extends his arms up and catch Olga into a princess carry, who is now unconscious. Vergil looks down at Olga and muttered.
"Foolish little girl."
The cave had began to collapse now that Saber was defeated. Rubble falling everywhere, the singularity had begun to collapse.
"This battle is yours, Candidate No. 48. however the world you know is gone, burned to a crisp and that girl will be dead when you leave here anyway. I bid you farewell." Leff said
"We'll see about that." Vergil said.
Vergil while carrying an unconcious Olga, grabs Mashu and heads out to the cave. The rest of the area was also collapsing. Vergil found a safe spot to recover and placed Olga and Mashu on the ground. The dark blue energy crackled and then disappeared as Vergil fell on one knee. The transfer was complete and Vergil his body, power and weapons, however his entire body was worn out. He will need to condition his body again. Vergil did not wield his current power his current age.
"I still have much to do. I'll rest a bit." Vergil said to himself, then he collapsed to the floor. In the next moment their bodies began to glow then and then they disappear, they were ray shifted back to the present time.
Present day Chaldea
When Vergil came to, he was in his room back in Chaldea and he had some guests in there as well. He looked down notice Fou was sitting there staring at him. Vergil has never seen such a creature and was not sure what to make of it. Mashu informed Vergil that she was here to bring him to the control room. Vergil got dressed and followed Mashu to the control room.
When they got there Olga, Romani, and a few other staff and servants were in the room. Due to the explosion, there were rubble all over the room. In the center Olga, De Vin Chi and Romani were sitting under a Japanese heated table with snacks and tea. Olga noticed Vergil and Mashu come in and fixes herself to debrief them of the situation.
Olga pulled up a world map, on it were seven black circles representing the singularities and important moments in human history. Since these important points in human history have be altered, the world they know have been left in ruin and set ablaze. The only ones who can repair this, is Chaldea, more specifically the 48th master and his servants since they were able to survive due to the presence of the barrier.
"You must recover the Holy Grail from the singularities and revert history to how it was before it was altered. If you want to take back the future, you will need to do this seven times in different places, country's and times all by yourself. I ask you Master, Candidate No. 48, do you have the strength and resolve to fight this long battle?" Olga asked Vergil while looking at him right in eyes. Everyone in the room waited to hear his response. They have lost much on this rough road. Vergil grinned and replied:
"I will fight and take back what was lost." Olga smiled at the response prompting her to say.
"Thank you, with that said, everyone else is dismissed. Candidate No. 48, I have a few things I need to discuss with you."
Everyone else leaves the control room. Its now just Olga and Vergil in the control room.
"Who are you really, Candidate No. 48? I know what I saw out there. Explain what's going on here." Olga asked looking at Vergil.
"I'm Candidate No. 48, Fujimaru Ristsuka." Vegil replied. Then Olga moves in closer staring at Vergil.
"That's bullshit and you know it. I saw his magical capabilities and aptitude for ray shifting, he was just average. You.. are way above that... There is no logical explanation on how you are able to achieve what you've done so far. Now, tell me, who are you, really?" Olga determined to find the answer, puts up a barrier around the area, in an attempt to prevent Virgil from leaving.
"Tsk, she is quite determined. Not that she could really stop me from leaving." Vergil thought to himself. Then Vergil had a thought as to why Olga is was not affected like everyone else, however a thought soon came to his mind explaining his predicament.
"Well, well, now I see." Virgil said while chuckling.
"What?" Olga asked while looking confused.
"The barrier that saved your capsule, is the same barrier that prevented you from being affected. Nothing serious though." Vergil stated.
"A barrier of some kind? Then how did you get there? Could you be...?" Olga said.
"It is as you deducted. I'm not originally from here. I was brought here to aid your organization. I am Vergil, Son of the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda, a half demon." He introduces.
"No way, but this does shed light on some things. I've never heard of this Dark Knight you mention. How am I still alive?" Olga commented.
"You wouldn't have, because he was a powerful demon that existed from where I come from. As for a how you're still alive, it was a promise I made before I came to your aid." Vergil explained
"You mean.." Olga asked
"Yes, that's right. I met Fujimaru before I came to this world. He made a request to save you all and here you are." Vergil stated.
"With that being said, It's better you keep this from everyone else. They have enough things to worry about. Just call me by his name around everyone else and Vergil when its just us. This is for your safety" Vergil explained.
"Then I guess, you will have to protect me the dangers ahead. Take responsibility for this."
"Tsk, what a troublesome woman you are." Vergil commented. However, he soon became surprised at Olga's immediate action.
"Thank you, Vergil. For helping us and for saving me. I don't know where we would be if it wasn't for your help. I'm Director Olga, I may be inexperienced, but I'll be in your care. If you have a question about anything, just contact me." Olga said while bowing.
"It's no problem. Don't thank me yet. There is still much that needs to be done around here."
"What interesting information I've come across fufu." Saber Alter commented and common out of her spirit form.
The two then turned their heads to find a woman seated on a chair nearby with her legs crossed. Olga recognized her to be the Saber Alter.
"You! Why are you here?" Olga asked while backing into Vergil scared.
"How rude! I simple came here to greet and see my master." Altria Alter said while looking at Vergil, as well as Olga.
"Allow me to formally introduce myself. Servant Saber."she said with a small bow.
"No way, so you're the other servant that was summoned here along with the others."
"That is correct. I don't know all the details, but after I was defeated and the singularity collapsed. I woke up and found myself here. Once you returned here, I carried you back to your room, master. I told you that we would meet again fufu."
"So that was you huh? Quite the change after we recently tried to kill each other." Vergil pointed out. Altria Alter stood up and walked towards Vergil.
"Don't be alarmed, I'm your servant now. I have no complaints, since you defeated me in fair combat. You can trust me." Altria said while looking at Vergil.
"Is that so? Since you know that much, you will watch over Director Olga and ensure her safety." Vergil stated. Olga looked at the son of Sparda in shock.
"It's for your safety. A powerful servant like her, a person will think hard before trying anything on you."
"Very well. If my master wishes it, then it will be so." Altria accepting her orders.
"Okay, we will conclude here for today. If you need anything, just contact me." Olga stated as she removed the barrier and headed out.
"Looking forwarded to working with you, my master." Altria said as she went into spirit form.
Vergil was in the room by himself. Then out of nowhere Fou hops on his shoulder. Vergil just looked at Fou and left the control room.
Unknown location
A red sphere descends through the darkness then fades away. A woman with red eyes and a black body suite similar to Cu Chulainn appears. She looks around to see where she is but was not able to determine it. The Land of Shadow somehow was destroyed and here she is now. She notices a blue orb near her feet and picks it up to have a look. Intrigued by the images from the orb she makes a throne like chair with her rune magic and sits in it. Then she expands the orb to make it larger.
"What do we have here? I haven't seen such potential since Cu Chulainn." Scathach said while looking at the expanded orb.
"Isn't he magnificent? Gaia stated.
"Who is he?" Scathach asked.
"That you will have to ask him yourself, mfufu." Gaia teased.
"Surely you jest?" Scathach retorted.
"Afraid not. He will need your power as well, for what is to come. The world you know has been incinerated." Gaia explained
"It was strange at first to have it disappear. This is not how I hoped death would come for me. However, I don't want to involve others in my selfish request." Scathach stated.
"I think if you help him, you may find the thing your looking for.. maybe even more."
"I am the Queen of Shadow, I will determine if he is worthy with my own eyes." Scathach declared.
"Well if your going to do that, you will need to get a connection with him somehow." Gaia pointed out.
"I have a few ideas I'd like to try. If it's successful I'll be seeing him soon." Scathach commented.
"Well he is currently in one the singularities, so you may have to wait." Gaia pointed out.

"Just try not to over do it with him, like you do the others." Gaia feeling a little bad for Vergil and what's coming his way.
