The twins have a unique ability of teleportation also known as 'Jumping', only Lucy, Michael, and Sam know. Terra (David) and Eli, short for Eleanor(Dwayne) also know because they can jump too. Will come in later in the story. My OCs will seem to be OP(Overpowered) because why not. The four of them together are known as "Black Demons."
Prologue
It was a cold rainy, winter night in Phoenix Arizona when the two-door blue sedan sped away, leaving two toddlers sitting in puddles in front of an orphanage. Both toddlers were dressed in sleepers with feet, one in pink and the other in purple. The one in pink was crying at the top of her lungs, the other one was holding her sister silently crying. The loud sobbing caught the attention of someone inside the orphanage. It was a portly woman in her mid-fifties, wearing a nightgown, robe, slippers, curlers in her hair, and an umbrella.
"Oh, you poor dears. Let's get inside and into some dry clothes." The kind woman led the two twin sisters up the steps and into the warm, inviting converted townhouse. The woman, Marsha, takes the twins into a living room to sit down while she gets them clean, dry clothes. Masha knocks on her sister's door, "Janet, two more were dropped off at the door with nothing. Can you ready two beds?" Marsha looked back at the twins clinging to each other. Janet opens the door and Marsha changes her mind, "Make that one bed for now. The darlings haven't let go of each other."
Janet peaks into the room and waves at the twins before asking her sister, "Do we know their names?" Marsha shook her head as she re-entered the room with some clothes, "I'm not sure. All they have is their wet clothes and each other."
The two women got the twins into dry clothes, led them into an empty bedroom, and tucked them into bed for the night. They turned the bedroom light off, left the door cracked with the hall light on. The only other three children sleeping in a room across the hall. All three of the other children were drop-offs as well, their mothers suffering from addiction and could not care for them.
Marsha and Janet made their way back to their office to start the paperwork for social services. They left their names and birthday blank for now. Marsha sighed, "It's a shame the parents couldn't have at least left their names and birthdays. How old do you think they are?" Janet shrugged, "I was going to guess two years old. Just by looking at them and that they're potty trained." After the paperwork was filled in, the sisters went to bed.
The next morning, the twins woke up and got scared. They were in a strange room, alone. They clung to each other, trying not to cry, they remembered they would get into trouble for crying. They opened the bedroom door and looked around. Seeing three other doors opened to reveal two more bedrooms and a bathroom. The bedroom across from them was a little messy with toys and clothes tossed on the floor. There was a set of bunk beds against the far wall and another twin bed pushed against the wall on the other side of the room. The master bedroom had two twin beds side by side with matching linen. The bathroom was decent sized for a house this big. It had a bathtub with a showerhead, toilet, and double sinks. This place was nice, and they felt safer than at home with their always intoxicated and angry mother.
"Oh, good morning girls. Come along. Breakfast is on the table." Marsha spotted the two poking their heads out of the bedroom. She guided them down the stairs and into the dining room. Served them a small plate of scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast with a glass of orange juice and a glass of milk. The twins ate the food as quietly as they could, finishing everything then sat quietly with their heads down.
Marsha cleared the table and had the other three children join Janet in the den-turned classroom for their studies. Once Marsha came back to the table, she sat in front of the twins. "Alright darlings, I know you must be scared. We will do our best to make you feel welcome. There are some rules that you have to follow, but they're not too strict. But first, what are your names?" The twins looked up at Marsha and she gasped, "Oh my, your eyes. They're beautiful."
The first twin with the two different colored eyes spoke, "Jade." Marsha looked to the other sister, "Kayla."
Marsha smiled, "Beautiful names. Can you tell me what happened?" She was hoping the girls could help her figure out why they were left at the orphanage. The answer was upsetting.
Kayla shook her head, but Jade answered, "We were bad. We didn't stay in our room and mommy got really mad. She made us go to the car and she left us outside. She yelled that we were bad. Always bad."
Janet was standing in the doorway listening to their story, she nodded to Marsha and then went back to the classroom. Marsha wiped the few stray tears from her eyes, "Well, my sister and I will make sure you go to a loving family. One that would be lucky to have you." Her words could have never been more true.
Three months later
Brian and Lucy Emerson, along with their three-year-old son Michael, walked into the orphanage. They were there because Lucy was told she could not have any more children. She had convinced her husband Brian to adopt another child while Michael was still little so he could grow up with his adopted sibling. Brian was reluctant at first, but he caved eventually, not wanting to cause Lucy any more pain.
Marsha and Janet greeted them at the door. While Lucy and Brian were speaking with the sisters, Michael was looking around. He saw the twins sitting at a table, drawing. One of the twins had what looked like sunglasses on. Michael felt an instant connection to the twins. He tugged on his mom's hand, "Mommy."
"What is it, baby?" Lucy knelt down so she could talk to her son. The three-year-old pointed his chubby little hand towards the twins. Lucy followed to where he was pointing, and her maternal instincts went into overdrive. There was something about those twins that attracted the Emerson mom and son, the father not so much but he would do it to make his wife happy.
Marsha and Janet had screened every family that came into the orphanage, none seem to be a fit for the twins. The Emerson's however, seem to fit perfectly. Marsha cleared her throat, "The twins, Jade and Kayla. They have been here for about three months." Marsha guided the Emerson family towards the twins. "Fairly well behaved, the only issue is the bullying from the other children. You see, their eyes are very unique. Jade has different colored eyes, one is Emerald Green and the other is Electric Blue. Kayla's coloring is just as unique, as well as slightly sensitive to light. Nothing too drastic, she wears a pair of sunglasses if the lights are bright."
Janet has been in step with her sister and has taken over the introduction of the twins, "Jade is very protective of Kayla. Their mother was found after some investigating. Some of the neighbors were able to identify the car that dropped them off in the middle of the night during that really bad storm last winter. She was found to be very unfit dealing with many lovers and alcoholism. Their mother also refused to cooperate with authorities when questioned why she did what she did. But she did claim the twins would disappear right in front of her and then reappear elsewhere in their home. She locked them in their room for days at a time, to quote 'keep the brats from vanishing into thin air.' Their mother also would not reveal who the father is."
Lucy and Michael gravitated towards the twins. Brian just sighed and shook his head, putting on a charming smile. The adoption process took two months with no complications. Michael and Lucy visited every day until it was time to take the twins home. During which time Marsha and Janet felt confident in their decision to have Jade and Kayla become part of the Emerson family.
One year and nine months later, their youngest son Sam was born.
