Chapter Two
The next morning after the twins woke up before dawn to work out. Their workouts are not as strict as they used to be while in Gymnastics, but they are still pretty intense. The pull-up bar is used for muscle-ups. Kayla loves doing muscle-ups and bringing the bar up to the next level. Jade does them too but she is more fond of the stall bars. Keeping themselves flexible is important when it comes to their activities. After the workout and a shower, the siblings found themselves on the beach. Michael doing his job picking up trash for the city. Sam hangs out with the twins, going into different shops and riding the rides. Once Michael was done, they all headed back home to get ready for the night. Their mom was going to look for a job, Sam was going to talk to the Frog brothers, and Michael wanted to chase that girl down. The twins just wanted to roam the boardwalk.
Jade and Kayla decided to set up a booth to sell their art the next night. For now, they wanted to scope out the boardwalk for the perfect spot. So they got ready to walk around the boardwalk again. The night is so different from the day. It is just as busy but the crowd is different. During the day it is mostly families and tourists, but the rowdier crowd comes out at night. The locals that think they rule the boardwalk and then there are those that do without effort.
Jade and Kayla were sharing cotton candy, and people watching. They had found the perfect spot for their art booth an hour ago, now they were just waiting for their mom to get done. Sam found them and was telling them about the Frog brothers. "I think I'm going to stay away from the comic book store for now. Those guys creeped me out. They handed me a comic book about vampires and then asked a bunch of questions about you two. I got the feeling that they think you two aren't human because of that freaky thing you do. So, we better watch out."
"I'm sorry Sam. We know you love your comics. Maybe we could head up to San Jose or something next week? Check out their comic shops," Kayla told her younger brother. Sam's face lit up with a very big smile, "You're the best sisters ever!" He pulled them both into a hug. Michael may be the older, protective brother, but he doesn't hang out with his siblings like he used to. So, when the twins do something to make Sam happy, it makes Michael happy. Now, if he could only catch up to that girl he saw last night. He ended up running into his siblings first, "Come on guys, mom is probably waiting at the car. I say we come back on our bikes tomorrow night."
Sam agreed instantly, but the twins had other plans. Jade spoke for both of them, "We want to set up a booth to sell our art tomorrow night." The four siblings walked to their mom's SUV. She was already waiting. She had an interesting night, to say the least, and she got a job.
Earlier
Lucy had parked her SUV at the boardwalk, "Ok, I want you all to meet me back here at eleven. No later." She grabbed her purse, waited for everyone to close their doors then locked the SUV. Michael was the first to say something. He felt that since he was nineteen he didn't have to have a curfew, "But mom…" Lucy cut him off before he could say anything else, "If you want to stay out later then bring your own wheels." From there the family split up.
Lucy was walking through the shops, looking at the help wanted signs and trying to decide which shop to go into. The diners wanted waitresses...Nope. She was too old to bus tables. The bookshop was looking for someone younger, so that was out. The next stop was a video store. The 'Help Wanted' sign was asking for someone for the second shift, noon to nine in the evening. That would be perfect. Lucy would be able to bring the twins so they could set up their booth for a few hours.
She was momentarily thrown from her thoughts by a child crying for his mom. Lucy knelt down in front of the little guy, "Are you lost?" He nodded his head. She held out her hand, "Well, let's check in there and see if we can find your mom." They both stepped into the video store and approached a man who was dressed nicely in Lucy's opinion. She was asking if the boy's parents might be in there when the little boy's mom ran up to them. Lucy was glad that the boy found his mom and turned to talk to the gentleman in front of her.
Lucy thought he had a nice smile. But it dropped for a moment, "I told you boys not to come in here." She looked over her shoulder at four guys dressed in leather. They looked between Lucy and the gentleman, almost like they had a silent conversation. They left the store and revved up their motorcycles before taking off.
Lucy and Max, as he introduced himself, carried on with small talk. Max asked if there was anything he could help her with, and she shyly asked about the help wanted sign. Lucy was surprised that she got hired on the spot but thankful. It was coming close to time to meet up with her family. She thanked Max and left the store with a skip in her step. She beat the kids to her SUV but not by long, maybe a few minutes. "I got a job." Jade, Kayla, and Sam gave her a hug, Michael patted her on the shoulder. They climbed into the car and headed home. Lucy told the twins they could load their booth into the SUV since she works from noon to nine. They agreed. It will also give them some time to hang out afterwards.
The Lost Boys
David kept a close eye on Marko and Paul. Ever since Max told them that his brothers may have mates, they have not been able to sit still. Almost like there are bugs crawling under their skin. Dwayne was just as concerned, the normal playful duo was easily agitated. Marko and Paul were getting close to tearing Santa Carla apart to find their mates. They kept sitting down, drumming their fingers on their legs or the back of the couch, occasionally rubbing their chest. Or pacing back and forth, Paul lighting and relighting his joints, and Marko has nearly chewed his nails off.
David has had enough, "Alright you two. If we help you look for your mates will you calm down?" He saw them both stop what they were doing to nod their heads so hard he thought their necks were going to snap. 'If they don't stop this shit, I'll snap their necks,' David thought to himself. "Then let's head to the boardwalk."
Later at the boardwalk, Paul and Marko were trying to keep their cool but they instantly caught their mates' scent. They decided to go bug Max for a moment before scouring the boardwalk. It was by sheer dumb luck that the lady talking to Max had faint traces of their mates' scent.
"Max, she has our mates' scent on her," Marko informed the head vampire. Max had turned to them and kicked them out like usual.
"That's interesting. All I can smell is Lavender and Rosemary." The boys looked at each other. It seems Max has found his mate as well. Max spoke to them again, "Maybe it's her children."
A plan was hatched to turn the woman's children so she would have no choice but to turn. The boys did not like this plan but since Max is the head vampire they had to go along with it. Didn't mean they couldn't have fun with the unsuspecting children.
With that in mind, the Lost Boys left the boardwalk to ride around for a bit before getting a bite to eat. Marko and Paul calmed down a tiny bit, but still hoped to find their mates soon. The Lost Boys prowled the boardwalk, quickly finding some lowlife, Surf Nazis to drain.
Picking up Laddie and Star at the end of the night, David could smell another guy's scent on Star. It was the same one that chased her last night, "Star. Either eat the kid or leave him alone." She just nodded her head. She has no intention of killing the guy, she likes him too much already. Things were getting even more complicated by the hour. Tomorrow night better be a great night for them or David is going to lose his shit.
