Chapter Six
Michael was not having a good day, for what seemed like the past week. Moving to Santa Carla with his mother and siblings didn't seem so bad at first, but now. Now, he wanted nothing more than to tear their throats out. The feeling of anger and irritation started after Michael started hanging out with David and his brothers. Michael just wanted to fit in. He was the popular jock in Phoenix. Now, he has to start over and make new friends. He didn't want to make friends with just anyone though. Michael wanted to be amongst those who didn't give a damn, not like his usual crowd. He found that in the Lost Boys. He felt like he fit in with them and Star.
Star is a whole nother matter. He saw her the first night in Santa Carla and couldn't keep his eyes off of her. But his heart shattered when she climbed on the back of the bike belonging to the leader of the Lost Boys. Not that he knew who they were until two nights later. Michael also found out Star was not with David, she just lived with them. The Lost Boys turned out to be really cool guys to hang out with. Michael was finding that he liked to be around the boys rather than his own family. His little brother Sam, annoyed him. The twins made him angry. Michael felt like the twins were stealing his friends after the boys met the twins. Paul and Marko hung out with the twins at their booth.
Michael was feeling incredibly hungry the past two nights. He sleeps all day so the hunger doesn't bother him too much then. But once he wakes up, the pains are back. Which makes him moody and angry. So when Sam drove up to the house in a Jeep, he lost it. "Where did you get this?" Michael gestured to the jeep. Sam climbs out of his jeep, "San Jose. The twins bought it for me. Mom knows and she's okay with it." Sam stepped around Michael to head inside. He didn't get two steps in before Michael was yelling at him for the twins spending money. "Mike, it's their money. They can spend it how they want to. You know they have tried to give mom some of it. But she refused. Mom even said it's their money. So don't you go yelling at me," Sam went up the stairs to take a bath. He needed to calm down.
Michael listened to his brother go into the bathroom and lock the door. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. 'Thump, thump' 'Thump, thump' "What the hell?" Michael says to himself. The rhythmic sound was getting louder as his feet climbed the stairs on autopilot. 'THUMP, THUMP' 'THUMP, THUMP' The sound was coming from the bathroom where his younger brother Sam was taking a bath. Michael leaned against the bathroom door and sniffed deeply. Inhaling the scents surrounding him, including Sam or specifically his blood. Michael grabbed the doorknob and twisted. It was locked. That pulled him out of his stupor. He backed away from the door, grabbed his newly bought leather jacket, and bolted for his bike.
Coming up to the boardwalk, Michael spotted the twins with Marko and Paul. He went over to them and saw red when he remembered they bought Sam a Jeep when they were flat broke. Well, Lucy, Michael, and Sam are broke, the twins have plenty of money. He knew Jade and Kayla tried to give their mother some of the money they earned, but he was still angry. He was angry at them for everything, and he told them so. The cold smile Jade gave him before the twins left the boardwalk made him shiver.
Next thing Michael knows, he is getting his ass kicked by two guys who he thought were his friends. Marko and Paul beat him so badly that he thought he was going to die. Broken nose, broken ribs, broken teeth, and a severely bruised ego. David and Dwayne took Michael back to the cave for some drinks and to calm the situation down. The drinks kicked in fairly quickly and he passed out. Michael didn't hear Paul or Marko come back to the cave.
The Lost Boys
"Dude blew our night to shit. Why is he still here?" Paul angrily stalked over to a passed-out Michael. Michael's injuries were already healing and should have no scars by the next night. One of the benefits of being a vampire or even half is their accelerated healing abilities. Paul kicked one of Michael's feet, wanting to actually kick his face...again. Paul walked away before he got even more pissed off. He went to his part of the cave and turned on his 'rock box'. The blaring music of Guns 'N' Roses filled the cave, drowning out everything else.
David gave the order to Dwayne to return Michael back home and check on the twins. He knew if Paul or Marko went, they would have stayed with the girls and possibly burn up when the sun rose. Dwayne picked Michael up and threw him over his shoulder. Flying out of the cave, listening to Paul and Marko whine about not seeing the twins, and David yelling, "You want to see them so bad then turn them!"
Dwayne dropped Michael onto his bedroom floor through his window. Then he floated over to the twins' room. They were not there. He flew over to the garage and saw their bikes. Dwayne landed outside of the garage and listened. He could hear music and heavy breathing, as well as accelerated heartbeats. Dwayne stealthily flew through the garage and into a darkened corner of the rafters to watch the twins. He was curious about what they were doing. What he saw would piss off the other two vampires because they missed it and he saw it. Jade and Kayla were stretching using bars bolted to the wall. Some of these stretches were very suggestive. A devious smirk crossed his face as he sent images of the twins to his brothers. "What the fuck bro!" Came from Marko. "So flexible," Paul's gutter brain spewed. Dwayne flew back out of the garage and headed to the cave.
The Lost Boys were upset and angry with Michael. They didn't have high hopes for the guy to begin with but Michael just made it that much worse for himself. David still doesn't like the idea of Paul and Marko having mates. He won't feel better about it until they are changed and bonded to his brothers. David informed his brothers using his alpha voice, "If the twins are not turned soon, then you'll have to kill them." There was no arguing with David on this.
The Next Night
Jade and Kayla spent the day organizing items for their booth before packing it into their mom's SUV. They had decided to set up for a few more nights then take a break for a bit. Michael had tried to talk to Jade before they left for the boardwalk, "Hey, can we talk?" He was standing a few feet from her. Jade raised her hand and swatted at an imaginary bug, "Do you hear that? There's a Mosquito." She didn't wait for Michael to say anything else before she started up her bike and took off. Kayla was hot on her tail. Michael knew he messed up when they wouldn't bother talking to him.
The booth wasn't doing so well. They haven't sold anything. No paintings, skate decks, or jewelry. Jade suggested, "Why don't we finish out the night then take that break early. Maybe visit Terra and Eli?" Kayla sighed, "Sounds good to me."
Kayla leaned forward in her chair to speak quietly to her sister, "Do you like Paul?" "Like as a friend or something more?" Jade asked. "As something more?" Kayla fidgeted with her braid, clearly nervous about the answer. Jade sat in thought for a moment, "More." She clarified her answer, "I feel this connection to him. Like one of those sappy romance novels mom reads. But at the same time, something about him scares me." Kayla nods her head, "I get that from Marko too. I like him, like being around him and everything. It just feels like he's hiding something." She laughs a little, "I do find it funny when they rough house. You can definitely tell they have been friends for a very long time." Jade laughs at that thought before becoming serious again, "You think we can trust them? You know...with what we can do?" "I think we can," Kayla stood up to stretch. They had been sitting there for a while. Both lost in thought they didn't hear the approaching man.
"Hello, darlings," a man with a posh, British accent and wearing a suit comes up to their booth. Ben pulled the short straw for this little delivery. He heard about the last delivery guy and didn't want a repeat. The poor guy has to drink his food through a straw while his jaw heals. The guy had made a remark about 'little girls are not meant for this kind of work.' Ben was to inform the twins of their next target. Ben is a man in his mid-twenties, tall, handsome, and arrogant. His suits cost more than what an average person makes in a month. Ben was carrying two manilla envelopes.
The twins knew exactly what was in those envelopes. Photos and a short biography detailing their target. No other pleasantries were exchanged since the twins were not in the mood and Ben didn't want to upset them. The envelopes were set down on the table and Ben walked away. The twins never questioned how 'The Company' found them, they just did what they were told.
Jade and Kayla have been with 'The Company' since before they turned sixteen. They had accidentally 'jumped' to a small village outside of Rome after escaping an argument with Brian, their adoptive father. The jump landed them in front of Terra and Eli completing a job for the company. The four teens were wary of each other. Introducing each other and learning they had the same ability while running away from the scene of the crime was a great ice breaker. They ended up spending the day in Rome talking and going over negotiations with the company. Jade and Kayla would spend time with Terra and Eli training in various skills. Skills necessary to be employed by the company, also learn to control their jumps in secret.
Over the next two years, Terra, Eleanor or Eli, Jade, and Kayla became inseparable. They eventually develop a sort of sibling bond, unbeknownst to them they are sisters. All four have different mothers but the same father. They never met him and probably never will since Terra heard rumors he was murdered over a decade ago. She only learned that his name was Orn Furyan, he fathered the four of them and then disappeared. Rumor has it, Orn was murdered when a competitor from The Company shot him. The story gets a little weird. The guy from The Company claims he shot Orn in the head but there's no body. The guy was deemed untrustworthy and was killed. Terra never told the others what she found out. She didn't want to get their hopes up that he could still be alive. It weighed heavy on her heart to keep something so monumental from her sisters but it was necessary.
The four teenagers were put through the paces at The Company. Being sent on smaller jobs ranging from recon to assassinating low-level criminals. The more experience they get the more difficult the job. After about a year teamed up together they had established a reputation and nicknames for themselves and their team. Each moniker was well represented.
Terra gave herself the name Mirage. One moment you see her, the next it was like she was just an illusion. Terra loved getting her hands dirty during jobs. Her targets always had several injuries and bones broken before she snapped their necks.
Eli, the quiet one, was given the name Whisper. She hardly ever spoke but when she did, you listened. Her targets never had time to scream before she killed them. Mostly due to using long-range rifles to take out her targets. When she wasn't behind the scope, she resorted to poisons.
Jade perfected the art of disappearing during a job. Which is why she is known as Phantom. She moves through the shadows, creeps up on her targets quickly taking them out and vanishing. There have been occasions when she has killed her target in a public setting and wasn't even noticed.
Kayla was the wild card. She has the nickname Swift. Her targets never had a chance, she was always too fast and efficient to catch. Always snapping the necks of her targets, it was clean, quick, and efficient. Her ability to 'jump' excelled her sisters. She could 'jump' further and faster than the rest of their team. Kayla has the stamina to take her sisters along with her when she 'jumps.'
Together they were known as The Black Demons. They were feared and respected by most. Some believe The Company was playing favorites because they were four beautiful girls who could rack up the body count. Their abilities were never revealed to anyone outside of their circle. It was too dangerous.
The twins continued to work for The Company during the divorce of their adoptive parents. They would see Terra and Eli very rarely now that they moved from Phoenix. Which is why after this job they are going to visit their sisters.
They decided to pack up right then and head home so they could strategize. They never go into a job blind, or emotional. Terra learned the hard way. If emotions are running high, the chances of making a mistake and getting hurt or killed are very likely. She had still taken out her target but not without a switchblade stabbed through her thigh, and a bullet in her lungs. She fully recovered and kept the switchblade as a reminder. Terra made sure the other three understood the consequences of not having a strategy.
Jade had just shut her mom's SUV when Kayla came over to her. "I let mom know the booth has been dismantled. I told her we received an envelope tonight. All she asks is that we stay safe and come back in one piece." Jade smiles thinking about how loving and accepting her mother was, "As per usual. Come on, let's go over everything at home then we'll come back and inform the guys." They locked up the SUV and walked the keys back to their mom before heading home.
Deciding to pull the contents of the envelope out onto the floor of their room so they could have some sort of privacy. Jade sat under her hammock, opened her envelope, and emptied it. She spread the contents out and organized it. Photos to the left, fanned out. There were ten photos, each with location and time stamp. The target's biography in front of her and blueprints of their home to the right. Jade always starts with the biography. Opening the file, she read their information:
Name: Marinkin Robert Yegorovich.
Age: 48
Hair: Light Brown, Short styled with gel
Eyes: Blue
Build: 6'1", 195, Athletic
Personality: Cruel, Arrogant
Net Worth: $15,000,000. Made most of his fortune in illegal trades
Guilty Pleasure: Little boys
Was last seen at a private auction where he bought six boys, all under the age of twelve. Spends most of his time at home where he lives with his brother and bodyguards. Has no other living relatives besides his brother.
Kayla's organization mirrors her sisters. Photos on the right, biography in the middle in front of her, and blueprints on the left. She too, started with the biography:
Name: Khrebtov Demian Yegorovich
Age: 45
Hair: Brown, buzzed really short
Eyes: Blue
Build: 6'0", 210, Fit
Personality: Arrogant
Net Worth: $9,000,000. In the business of illegal trade with his brother
Guilty Pleasure: Other men's wives. Has caused many issues with business partners.
Last seen with his brother at a private auction where he disappeared partway through to seduce the wife of a newer business partner. Was found with said wife in a bathroom stall. Spends time at a local pub getting drunk before returning home. Lives with brother and bodyguards.
They both look over their photos. Each photo shows a different angle of the two men. The brothers have matching tattoos on their left forearm of their family crest.
Jade crinkles her nose in disgust at a photo showing her target with his hands on the shoulders of a scared little boy. She had to toss the photo because Laddie came to mind and she became angry. Taking deep breaths before unrolling the blueprints. Kayla also had an expression of disgust. There was a photo of her target in a very compromising position with a beautiful blonde, a large diamond wedding ring shining bright on her left ring finger while gripping his shoulder.
They go over the blueprints. The Estate is heavily guarded on the outside. Men with guns roam property on a schedule. Last intruder was interrogated and then murdered. The property is located just outside of Moscow, Western Russia. Fairly small for someone with this kind of fortune, must be family estate. Three stories with an open floor basement, seven bedrooms, ten bathrooms, a library, study, a large kitchen with brick oven, and a detached five-car garage. There were handwritten notes on the borders detailing the guards' and targets' schedules.
At first glance, the job looks easy. The twins know better. If it looks easy then there are more chances of things going wrong, things that were not planned for. So, they continue to study the blueprints until they are memorized. Every room, every exit was marked and every escape routed. They planned to leave in the morning, scout the place and their targets for a day or two and then finish the job. This job is paying them $1,500,000 each. Not the highest paying but close.
Jade rolls up the blueprints and puts them in her black duffle that she packs for these occasions. "Okay, let's get everything together now then go see the guys. We'll 'jump' to the treeline outside the boardwalk." It was late enough that she didn't feel like riding her bike. Kayla agreed, "Yeah. When we get back, we'll see if we can trust them enough to tell them everything." Packing a few days worth of clothes, the manilla envelopes, and any other essentials in their black duffle bags. One major benefit about 'jumping', no airport security to deal with.
After making sure they had everything, they jumped to a secluded area near the boardwalk. They were a little nervous to tell the guys about going out of town. Didn't want to answer any questions about where they were going and why.
The Boardwalk
Normally the twins would walk around the outside of the boardwalk to where the guys parked their bikes. It was a cautionary measure to avoid the comic shop. But they were in a hurry. Now, they wished they went the long way. Edgar and Allan had spotted them and were staring them down. Jade got agitated with them, "Are we going to have issues tonight?" She moved to stand in front of the boys. They puffed up their chest, trying to seem intimidating but the twins just laughed. Kayla grabbed her sister by the sleeve, "Come on Jade. We'll deal with them later." Edgar glared at Kayla, "Is that a threat?" Kayla smirked, "It's a promise."
The twins continued walking until the bikes came into view. What they saw stopped them in their tracks. Paul was leaning against the railing with his hands on the hips of a tall, blonde, overly tanned bimbo. Her giggle could be heard over the boardwalk PA system playing the music from the live concert. Jade felt her heart in her throat. She didn't know whether to cry or scream and tear the bimbo apart. Kayla was no better. Marko wasn't even talking to his bimbo because he had his tongue down her throat. Kayla was the first to find her voice, "Come on. We have a job to do."
Kayla only spoke loud enough for Jade to hear. She was not counting on the boys' vampiric hearing. As she turned away the guys looked in their direction. Kayla was already walking away. Jade had flipped the bird with an unreadable expression on her face before catching up to her sister. They had jumped home after turning a corner.
Marko pushed the girl away, "Kayla! Wait!" He ran in the direction his mate went. Paul was not that far behind him. They rounded the corner and scanned the corridors for their mates. "Where did they go? They couldn't have just disappeared. Could they?" Paul asked his brother, running his hand through his hair messing it up. Something he never does. One thing about Paul is his hair always has to be perfect. Marko swallowed the lump in his throat, "I don't know Paul." Their chest hurts worse than it ever has.
The two bimbos were leaning against the railing where Paul and Marko left them. The one Marko was making out with opened her mouth, "Were those your girlfriends?" Hearing her high-pitched valley girl voice set them off. "Shut up, skank!" Paul yelled while pulling his arm out of the grip of the girl he was originally talking to. The girls got the hint, "Come on, Becky." The girls walked away, making sure to sway their hips as if saying, 'you are missing out on this'.
Paul crossed his arms, hugging himself, "I don't even feel hungry anymore. Just the stupid pain in my chest." Marko was rubbing his chest, "We fucked up. Should have told them. We should have turned them already." "Let's head to theirs. Maybe if we explain…" Paul was cut off by a fast-approaching David. "What now?" David felt their sudden change in mood and hurried to find out why. He looked over his brothers and almost didn't recognize them. Their happy-go-lucky demeanor has completely vanished. "The twins saw us with our meals. We picked a couple of skanks and were going about it as we usually do," Marko said while chewing on his thumbnail. David took a drag from his cigarette, "Are you going to head to their place or not?"
Paul and Marko drove as fast as they could to the Emerson household. Parking their bikes in the driveway in front of the house. Marko bangs on the screen door, Paul standing behind him. A few moments go by when Sam opens the door, "What do you want?" Apparently, the twins had told him what happened. Marko grips the door frame with both hands, "Can we talk to the twins?" "Please," Paul pleaded with the kid.
Sam looks back and forth between them, "They're not here. They had something they needed to take care of out of town. Won't be back for a few days." Kayla told Sam they got an envelope earlier that night. He knew they had a job but not where. They never gave their family any details.
Even though the vampires didn't need to breathe, it felt like the wind had been knocked out of them. Paul leaned away from the front enough to see the garage, "Their bikes are here. Are they really gone or hiding in the house to avoid us?" Sam stepped out the door to get in Paul's face, "They are not here. If there is one thing I know about my sisters is that they are not cowards. If they didn't have something important to do, they would have stayed at the boardwalk, chewed you guys out, and beaten the crap out of the bimbos you two were probably going to fuck. Then you have the balls to come here and call them cowards. If you didn't want to be with them, you should have told them or stayed away. Now get the fuck out of here!" Sam turned around to go back inside only to have Marko in his way. Sam just shook his head, went around him, and slammed the door in their face.
"David. They're not here. They left town and will be gone for a few days," Marko linked to David. "Yeah, and Sammy-boy grew a pair. He's got more balls than Mikey," Paul was impressed with Sam. He had the guts to get into a vampire's face, not that he knew Paul was a vampire but still. "Come back to the cave. I have an idea," David was looking at Michael sitting next to Star.
The Cave
All four vampires went about doing what they would normally do so as not to raise suspicion from Michael. David sat in his wheelchair, Dwayne sat on one of the couches reading one of his many books. Paul was rolling his stash for a total of six joints. Marko was high up in the cave with a can of spray paint. They were going to get Michael shit-faced to the point of loose lips. David even let Star know what they were doing so she could play along, "We need Michael to think about what the twins are up to. We're going to convince him that he said his thoughts out loud." She gave a slight nod, acknowledging that she understood. Star likes the twins. She felt they would be good for the pack. Maybe drive the heat off her to fully turn.
The group proceeded to smoke all six joints. If Michael was paying attention, he would have noticed the rotation had him taking a hit every other person. By the time the joints were nothing more than roaches, Michael was higher than a vaulted ceiling. He kept poking at his face claiming it felt numb then he would giggle. "So, Michael? How are your siblings doing?" David opened the conversation. Michael's head rested on the back of the couch, one arm around Star, "I have no idea. Since I pissed them off I haven't really talked to them. Sam is upset with me because of how I treated the twins. And the twins refuse to acknowledge my existence." He let out a heavy sigh.
David looked around the room at his brothers. His eyes met Marko's, nudging his head as if saying, 'your turn'. "We went to your house to see the twins but Sam said they each got an envelope earlier tonight." Sam didn't say that, he was thinking it when Marko stood in front of him and looked into his mind. That made Michael lift his head to look at Marko, "He said that?" Marko nodded his head. "Shit!" Michael dug his palms into his eyes, trying to open them more. That bit of news somewhat sobered him up, "Did he say anything else?" Paul was sitting on the edge of the fountain, hugging himself again trying to lessen the pain in his chest. "He said they had something important to do and won't be back for a few days." David leaned forward in his wheelchair, "Mike, what is it that your sisters do?" Michael shook his head trying to clear it, "I got to get home."
Michael got up from the couch, walked to the entrance to the cave while mumbling to himself, "Need to make sure we're stocked on first aid." The thoughts running through his head are being inadvertently broadcasted to the other vampires. "They better come back in one piece this time." David's voice stopped Michael a few steps from the entrance, "What do you mean they better come back in one piece?" Michael turned his body around, "Did I say that out loud?" He panned the room, everyone nodding their heads. Running his hand through his hair, "Dammit. I really shouldn't have said that. They're going to be even more pissed at me." David stood from his wheelchair and guided Mike back to the couch, "Explain. They're already pissed at you. Might as well tell us everything."
Mike sits on the edge of the couch and sighs, "Um, this may be a little hard to believe." Star scoots closer to him, "Michael? You do realize you're in a room with vampires, right?" Mike nods his head, Star helped him realize he was a half the day before, "I know. But even some things are hard to believe. Okay, here goes nothing. Terra, Eli, and the twins have this unnatural ability to teleport. They call it 'jumping'." Both David and Dwayne's chest twinged at the other two girls' names. Marko and Paul wanted to laugh it off, but the serious expression on Mike's face told them all he wasn't kidding. "Mom, Sam, and I found out the twins could do this when they were around five years old, but I think they have been able to jump since they were two years old. Mom and dad were arguing loudly in the kitchen. Me and my siblings were in the living room. Mom left the kitchen, trying to stop the fight before it got bad but dad followed her into the living room. The twins freaked out and disappeared from the living room. I saw it happen, but our parents didn't. I picked up Sammy and went to put him in his room so I could go find them. I had to pass by their room to get to Sammy's. I looked in their room and they were huddled together on Jade's bed."
He was lost in the memory for a moment. "My dad had taken off after yelling at my mom some more. He would always start a fight then take off. Dad was against adopting the twins but he never said so. Then Sam was born after mom had been told she couldn't have any more children, which put a strain on my parents' marriage. Dad had come back later that night drunk off his ass, stumbling through the house, breaking a vase on his way into their bedroom, and slammed the door. The next morning, he found the vase and blamed the twins. He was yelling at them to clean up their mess. Mom came into the hall and got in between them, and the twins vanished again. Dad thought they ran off. Mom was the one standing in front of them, and she felt the air shift then they were gone." Michael stopped for a moment, the cave was dead silent. Not even a peep from Marko's pigeons.
Michael continued, "Over the years, the twins would jump at least once or twice a month to escape the arguments. Dad became distant, mom did her best. Us kids were so busy with our hobbies that we didn't notice dad was staying away from the house longer and longer. I played football. Sam was in track and played soccer. The twins were in gymnastics."
Paul could be heard in everyone's head, "Explains the flexibility." "Not now you perv," Marko remarked.
"Three months before their sixteenth birthday, the twins walked into the house after gymnastics only to have dad scream at them for being late getting home. Jade got in his face and reminded him that he was the one that was supposed to pick them up. He didn't like that she was talking back to him, so he slapped her. Both of them were so hurt and angry that they jumped to Italy. A small village outside of Rome where they met Terra and Eli. That's when everything changed for us. Mainly the twins. They would disappear for days at a time. Mom, Sam, and I would ask them where they would go. Kayla finally told us about their ability to jump. They had met the only two other people in the world who could do it."
Michael stopped to look at his watch, it was approaching four in the morning. If he wanted to get home and get some sleep he needed to finish explaining. "This is where I should stop. I know the four of them are probably going to kill me for telling you all this, but I also know you're not going to blab about it." He looked around the cave and saw all eyes on him, "The four of them work for 'The Company'. That's the title the organization goes by. Someone from The Company would deliver an envelope to an associate, giving them a job to do. Whether it's recon or an...assassination depends on the skills and experience of the associate. Terra, Eli, and the twins are extremely skilled assassins."
"Yeah, right? You expect us to believe that?" Paul voiced what the room was thinking. "They're too innocent...too…" His thought trailed off when he caught sight of his 550 bracelet. He unclipped it and stared at the blade. "Nah, they can't be. Can they?"
Looking down at his own bracelet, Dwayne confirmed David's suspicion, "Now we know what they've been hiding. The gaps in their stories. It's because they couldn't tell us what they can do."
Michael regained everyone's attention when he laughed a little, "You know...The only real difference between you guys and those four is the reason. You guys kill to survive, they get paid. The envelopes would contain information about their targets. Every time Jade and Kayla get an envelope, Sam, my mom, and I cross our fingers and prepare for the worst. Originally, the twins weren't going to tell us about The Company. We found out after a job went south. They were able to take out their targets, but not without major injuries. Kayla's right shoulder was dislocated from Jade yanking her so hard to jump home. Jade…" Michael was reliving one of the worst days of his life, his eyes were tearing up, "Jade had been shot in the chest three times. She couldn't be taken to the hospital, too many questions. Terra and Eli were patching her up in the twins' bedroom when they yelled for help. Jade's heart had stopped. I got to them first, Sam was behind me, mom had run from the kitchen. It took all of us nine minutes. Nine minutes of CPR to get her heart pumping again." Paul gasped, thinking about Jade dying, "Dude, we got to get them back." Paul and Marko kept trying to dull the pain in their chests.
Star ran her hand through Michael's hair, trying to calm him down even with tears in her own eyes. "Michael?" She got him to lift his head and look at her, she was trying to encourage him to continue. He wiped away the tears, "That didn't stop them though. If anything, the four of them trained harder to never have that happen again. They would get injured sometimes, but never again were the injuries life-threatening." Michael let out a humorless laugh, "The nicknames they earned though. That's a story for them to tell." Michael checked the time, stood up and stretched, "The sun is coming up soon. I better get home."
The Lost Boys were so focused on what Mike had told them, they didn't stop him from leaving. Star went to lay on her bed and try to get comfortable before the sun rose and sleep overtook her. David lit his last cigarette, the other three vampires headed to bed. Too physically and emotionally exhausted to say or do anything else. David finished his cigarette and joined his brothers. All of the occupants of the cave had the twins on their minds as they fell asleep in their subcave.
AN: Don't hate me. But Marko and Paul are going to have to do some serious ass-kissing to get the girls back. It's not going to be instant.
