A/N: Because the world is pain right now and I need a distraction from it all. Please excuse the short length and have fun.

OOOOOOOOOOO

Dozens of scents filled the air - some pleasant, some outright disgusting. It was always the same on the boardwalk, no matter what decade it was. David had grown used to it and was able to ignore it for the most part.

Calli shifted next to him, pushing her drink aside and rested her head on the table that they were seated at. She let out a small groan and put her arms over her head.

"I wouldn't be putting your head down on these tables," David commented, taking a drag on his cigarette. "You have no idea what's been happening on them for the past thirty years plus."

The Goth raised the middle finger on her right hand. "I don't care if you've butchered people on this table…my head is going to rest on it because it's cold."

David smirked. "Who said this table's had blood on it. I was talking about a more fun activity."

Calli's head popped up and she glowered at David. "You know what? Fuck you. Now I'm going to question every surface in this damn boardwalk. So thank you and fuck off."

She turned around on her seat and stood up, scanning the crowd for something. David followed her, but grabbed her half finished drink because he'd never known her to waste good iced coffee. Not even on one of her moodier days. She'd thank him later, he was sure.

"Where are you off to?" David asked, falling into step next to her.

"Somewhere quieter," Calli said, wrapping her arms around herself. "All this screaming and music has my head going in circles."

"So, you want to go somewhere more private?" David smirked, wiggling an eyebrow at her.

Calli made a face. "Fuck you."

"That was the plan."

The girl rolled her eyes and came to a stop. "Is everything I do with you supposed to lead to sex?" she demanded, crossing her arms. "Because when I call you "sex god", I don't mean for you to take it literally. It shouldn't be your defining characteristic, David. You can be soft and cuddly too."
David flicked his cigarette aside. "Maybe I don't want to be soft and cuddly."

"Then find yourself a girl that can stand to be fucked all the time," Calli snapped, her hands clenching into fists. "Because she isn't me." She turned and stomped off.

Such a drama queen sometimes…

David followed after her, making sure she was okay. He moved past Video Max and saw that Max was watching Calli walk past. She seemed oblivious to the look that his Master was giving her, but then again, she seemed oblivious to the whole of the boardwalk. It was like she was walking on autopilot and was lost in her head.

Something has to be going on with her, David…

This isn't normal Calli behavior…

Should we come help?

David ignored the voices of his brothers in his head and grit his teeth, sending a warning look at his Master. That bastard wasn't allowed within fifteen feet of Calli. Or David would have to do something about it.

Calli marched up to David's motorcycle and kicked it, letting out a hiss when her toe collided with the solid metal. David rolled his eyes and moved to stand next to her.

"That was smart," David commented sarcastically.

Calli glared at him and lifted a finger, opening her mouth.

"Yeah, yeah. I know. Fuck me," David said, handing her the drink she'd abandoned. "Fuck the asshole that keeps snarking at you."

The Goth glared at him. "You're evil."

"And you're small and sometimes stupid for a girl with a degree," David countered, looking down at her. "You don't see me complaining."

Her fist collided with his stomach, causing him to take a step back. Calli shook her hand out and let out a string of curses.

"Mother fucking fudge sickles," Calli grumbled, pressing her knuckles against the plastic cup that held the remainder of her drink. "More pain, different location."

The leader of the Lost Boys' eyes narrowed. "What do you mean "more pain"?"

Calli looked up at him after a moment. "I'm hurting, David. If you haven't noticed, I'm thriving on painkillers right now, but they aren't doing shit. My head hurts. My arthritic knees are killing me. And yay, my entire hand hurts now. I'm having a ball."

David pulled his girlfriend into his arms and stroked the back of her head. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"

"Because."

"Not a good enough answer, Calli."

"Because I didn't feel like it. There's nothing that you can do to make the pain go away." She sighed against his chest. "I can't even take a nap because of all this. I'm just so bleh right now. And it's putting me in a bad mood towards everyone, including you." She peeked shyly up at him. "Forgiveness?"

David pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Yeah, I forgive you. I'll always forgive you. Even if you commit murder."

The girl rolled her eyes. "David, that's the only way that vampires survive. So of course you'll forgive me for murder."

"Can we please go somewhere else?" Calli asked, resting her forehead against his chest again. "My head is pounding."

"Yeah." David mounted his motorcycle and helped her on behind him. "I'll take you somewhere quieter."

Calli wrapped an arm around him and rested her cheek against his shoulder blade. "Thank you, hon."

OOOOOOOOO

The stars sparkled in the sky, one falling in a flash. David and Calli were laying on the grass in her backyard, just watching the night sky. At least, he was. He glanced over and saw that Calli's eyes were closed and she was breathing slowly.

The vampire reached over and brushed his fingers against her cheek. She didn't move, but that didn't matter to him. David smiled softly as he watched her sleep for a while.

She looks peaceful. I would give the world to keep her at peace. His brow furrowed. Every day I don't make the change for her, she gets weaker and weaker. Her body is aging. Time is taking it's toll on her and I am sitting her doing nothing about it.

David sat up and scooped Calli into his arms. She let out a soft sound like a gentle moan and turned her face away. David straightened and headed into the house, aiming for the bedroom upstairs. Her cat, Bubby, stepped in the way and David had to kick him.

Thank God she's not awake to see me 'abuse' her cat, David thought to himself as he entered her bedroom. She would never let me hear the end of it.

David carefully deposited his girlfriend on her bed and pulled the covers over her. He'd started to retreat towards the window when Calli's hand seized his. He turned and looked down at her to find her staring at him through half hooded eyes.

"Stay…" she whispered, sounding tired and miserable.

David's heart broke at the sound of pain in her voice. He shrugged out of his jackets and climbed onto the bed with her, wrapping his arms around her. Calli snuggled against his chest and fell back asleep, trembling slightly.

I'm going to have to change her soon. Because I refuse to see her in this kind of pain for much longer…I just need to figure out the right time.

OOOOOOOOOOOO
