Koji Koda was a support. He knew this and accepted his role with pride. He would use his quirk to have animals scout the area for him. He would have the animals support the heavy hitter whenever there was an opening.
When he heard he was teamed with Kirishima, he was ecstatic. He knew the red head was one of the best heavy hitters in the class. He thought the match would be a good one.
Yet that wasn't the case. Their opponents were Kamakiri and Tokage from 1-B. They were doing class training again, this time it was 2v2's in different biomes. This time they were placed in a dense jungle.
Koda knew a little about them from seeing them in action in the Joint Training. He knew Kamakiri made blades and Tokage could make her body split into pieces. That made Koda sweat.
He knew he would get skewered if he fought Kamakiri in a 1v1. Tokage's quirk was tricky as well. He doubt the animals could attack her pieces in time. She was too fast.
'I hope this will be quick.' he internally prayed as he watched Kirishima rush forward. He hoped that he would be able to take out Kamakiri quickly. Then the two can take on Tokage. That would be the best bet.
"Can you scan the area and let me know where they are?" Kirishima asked, looking around the dense forest. This area was good for Koda, yet it could camoflauge Kamakiri well and it would be close to impossible to spot one of Tokage's pieces floating around.
"Yeah." He replies simply.
Koda uses his quirk. Birds, insects, and other animals around the area began to search for the mantis-like teen or the lizard-like girl.
Setsuna Tokage sighed in exasperation. She rubs her temples in frustration. Her teammate, Togaru Kamakiri was being a real pain in the ass right now. He was similar to Bakugo of 1-A in terms of aggression, and was sometimes hard to work with.
"No way. I'm going after Koda first. We take him out, the two of us can blitz Kirishima together until his hardening stops." He growls out.
"You really think I can take on Kirishima?" She asked in frustration.
Kamakiri glares at her as he clenches his fist.
"No, you're playing the distraction. You don't have to attack him head on, just keep him spinning until I can take out Koda. He can't ignore some slut literally throwing her tits at him." Kamakiri rolls his eyes.
Setsuna glares back.
"So what if he destroys my pieces and capture me? You really think you can take them both on?" Setsuna taps her foot impatiently.
"Of course I can! Koda I can get easily and Kirishima has a limit. How do you not see that dumbass!" He shouts out, getting in her face.
"If Koda sends waves of bunnies or birds of whatever you plan on just dismembering them?!" she shouts.
"Yes! Yes I do! Those shitty critters can die for all I care. They are the ones getting in my way." He shouts back, a vein forming on his head.
Setsuna's mouth opens in shock.
"You're a fucking monster."
"And You're a bitch."
"Take on Kirishima. You're the best shot, you would fare way better than me!" She argues again. Not only that, but because she didn't want to see dead animals liter the grounds. That would break her heart. Hell that would be hard to look at for anyone.
Kamakiri lets out a frustrated yell as he grabs his head.
"Fine goddamnit but if you don't take out Koda. It's your ass." He points at her chest before turning around.
He was tired of losing because she was a shit leader. Last time he tried to play along, they got fucking slaughtered. 4-0'ed with no damage done.
He only agreed for redemption. If he can't fight Bakugo, he could take out his bestfriend to send a message.
Also he wanted to secretly wanted to test his blades against Kirishima anyways, not that he would say that out loud.
"Now tell me where they are so I can cut em up."
Setsuna is just so done with Kamakiri and his shit attitude. Ever since the Joint Training, he blamed her solely for their lost. He said if he was leader they wouldn't have gotten humiliated like that.
Awase and Bondo were fine with the loss. They took it as inspiration to train harder. They also saw Bakugo's change. Kamakiri took it as an oppertunity to give her shit about it.
After some time passes, Setsuna sees them. The two of them were standing in place. Presumably so Koda's quirk could be more effective.
She points the way they are at.
"That way. They are together. I'll distract them and you can-"
She turns to Kamakiri only to see him leaping through the trees.
"Alright I'll ambush Kirishima. Handle Rock head." He shouts as he manuevers through the trees heading towards them.
Setsuna groans. Of course he wouldn't listen to her. That just pissed her off even more.
Setsuna splits herself up into 10 pieces and rushes forward.
She hears the sound of blades hitting a hard surface once she approaches.
'He must be engaging Kirishima.' she concludes as she makes it to the site. Right as she looks, she sees that she is right.
"YOU SEND ANY ANIMALS I'LL MAKE EM DINNER YA HEAR!" Kamakiri shouts as he dodges a hardened fist.
"YOU MONSTER!" Kirishima blocks a blade that was aimed for his neck.
Kamakiri laughs as he swings his arms, covered in blades, at Kirishima, forcing him to the defense.
"KODA STAY BACK, LOOK FOR TOKAGE!" Kirishima shouts as he lands a hardened fist on Kamakiri.
Koda's eyes widen and his mouth drops. He knew that he wasn't lying. He sees that fire in his eyes.
Koda doesn't get to react as a foot kicks him clean in the face.
Setsuna smiles. He was big, quiet, and scared easily. She figured she could have some fun with this. Koda was the perfect prey for her. She licks her lips as she looks at him looking around scared and confused.
Koda tries to use his quirk but something hits him at the back of his head.
He turns around and sees nothing.
He tries to use his Anivoice again, but again, something attacks him. A fist hits his stomach, winding him.
"Kodaaaaaa~ I can see youuuuu~" A feminine voice sings out.
'Where is she?!' he thinks. To Koda it sounded as if her voice was coming from every direction. Everytime he attempted to use his Anivoice, he gets attacked. He couldn't do anything, Kirishima was in a fight.
Koda then hears something that makes the hair on the back of his neck stand on end. A primal bone-chilling terror of when something is behind you.
"Boo." A feminine voice belonging to Setsuna Tokage says. He then feels her tongue lick the tip of his ear.
Koda gets goosebumps and he freezes for a moment.
Koda then screams and jumps forward, turning around to see a disembodied mouth with sharp teeth laughing.
"Got your earrr~" she taunts as her ear actually lands on his shoulder.
Koda quickly tries to smack it, but it moves just in time.
"You won't win." He says, prepared to use his anivoice. Before he could talk he sees movement out the corner of his eye.
Koda ducks just in time as a fist flew past his head. Koda turns and runs. The last thing he wanted to do was stand still, he would basically be target practice for Tokage.
"Where could you be running to?~" Setsuna's voice calls out again.
Koda tries his best to tune her out, but she was beginning to get to him. The dense jungle seemed to be endless, as if there was no way out.
"Please locate the lizard girl!" Koda finally uses his opening and is able to use his anivoice.
The quiet boy had wished that he trained his voice more. His fear was beginning to hold him back. Being chased down by a girl was not something he ever thought would happen to him.
Animals around him begin to run around, searching for Setsuna anywhere.
Koda runs forward, but then nearly pisses his pants once he sees Setsuna's upperbody emerge from some brush. He falls on his behind and his heart stops for a moment.
"LOOKIN FOR ME?!" she questions as she slams her remaining fist into Koda's face.
Koda falls back, clutching his now hurt nose. He should have been cautious of an ambush.
Koda never liked being jump scared. He didn't fear horror movies, snakes, bugs, the monster under the bed, or anything else growing up. His only real fear was getting jumpscared. He hated it with all of his heart. He would put that above his social anxiety. He was getting better at talking with people, his time at U.A assured that. That however was one fear he was sure he was NEVER going to get over.
"You can't escape me. I am inevitable!" she laughs as pieces of herself barrage Koda from every direction.
"AHHHH!" Koda screams as pieces attack him. He begins to get worn down from the constant assault.
Setsuna made sure to target his throat whenever she could. She had to limit his use of Anivoice. Despite having the advantage, she knew that if he used it to its full power, the entire forest could be on her in an instant. Getting swarmed by insects was not on her bucket list.
He didn't know what was hitting him or where he was getting attacked from, all he knew was one thing.
'I have to retreat!'
Koda manages to block off his head from taking too much damage. His vision was blurry but otherwise he felt fine.
Koda tries to fight back. He alnds some hits that manage to knock some parts back, but he was fighting a losing battle.
'I have to get out of here! ' he thinks. Koda manages to flee, but that is because Setsuna lets him. She has her eye on him. Her other eye was watching Kamakiri's fight just in case things get dicey.
Setsuna smiles as she watches Koda flee. She was enjoying this a lot. Being put up against an opponent in a mismatch. Vlad had always made sure to put her up against someone that she had a disadvantage against. She felt he carried a grudge since that humiliating lost, although when she asked, he always said that it was so she can improve and grow.
She knew Vlad was competative and very petty.
"Finally. I'm the one in control. Finally I have the power~" Setsuna proceeded to chase Koda, feeling a thrill rush through her. Being in control made her feel good.
Not to mention Koda was kinda cute in a quiet nerd kind of way. She wouldn't mind getting closer to him. From what she seen, he doesn't really interact with the girls from 1-A that much.
'Maybe I can lay my claim on him~' she thinks feeling a smirk form on her face.
Koda nearly makes it to a clearing but then Setsuna's disembodied leg trips him.
"OOOF!" Koda screams as he lands face first into the earth.
He tries to get up and use his anivoice but then a foot lodges itself into his mouth.
He hears Setsuna giggle from somewhere.
Koda's eyes widen in shock, then he blushes. He quickly throws the foot away and begins to brush his tongue.
A fist cracks him in the side.
"AHHG!" Koda falls over and clutches his side. A foot slams on his arm, pinning it down, her other foot follows. Both of her fists land on his legs. More parts of her land on his arms and legs, securing him. Koda was pinned down.
"Koda you naughty, naughty boy~" Koda looks up in fear to see Setsuna's mouth float closer to him slowly.
"L-let me go. Y-you win okay. I lost." Koda says. He knew there was no way out of this. He couldn't use his quirk because a body part would fly down and stop him. He tries escaping, she could dogpile parts on him, or weaken him even more.
Yet Setsuna doesn't release him. Koda sees a predatory look in her eyes. It reminded him of when he watched Mineta take on Midnight.
"I'm not done with you yet~" Koda feels fingers rub against his rock shaped head. Koda blushes yet he still gets chills.
"Now prepare to-" Setsuna stops talking suddenly when she picks something up.
Kirishima was beginning to beat down Kamakiri. The fight had turned around.
"Damnit. Right at the fun part. Damnit Mantis." she complains internally.
"Looks like you got lucky Rocky. Oh well there is always next time. Now go to sleep."
Before Koda could respond, a fist hits him hard, knocking him out cold.
Setsuna looks down at Koda's form with a sense of longing. She enjoyed toying with him but she had to make sure they didn't lose this.
"Believe me this isn't over~" she sings before flying towards the battle.
Of course with Setsuna's assistance, Kamakiri manages to overpower Kirishima. He ends up getting knocked out and Setsuna's team is declared the winner.
After the match, Kamakiri looked at her with indifference.
"Looks like you aren't such a shit leader after all." Kamakiri says with a shrug. Truth be told he felt fucking amazing after winning, but he wasn't going to tell her that.
"I led us to victory. A thank you would be much appreciated."
Kamakiri was about to give a snarky reply, but then he spots Kirishima getting yelled at by Bakugo. He gives off an evil smirk as he walks over, ready to stir the pot. He just leaves Setsuna standing there.
Setsuna growls and glares at him. She is never appreciated for anything.
Everyone was walking towards the dorms.
Setsuna spots Koda with Tokoyami and Ojiro chatting.
She walks over, seeing her chance.
"Hey Koda. That was a good match." she had a teasing smirk on her face. Koda blushes deep remembering how he was pinned down.
"Y-yeah. You uh, had me down." he looks down and rubs his neck once he says the last part.
"Awe don't worry. You did pretty good yourself~" Setsuna decides to go in for the kill.
She wraps her arm around his and winks.
"We're gonna go talk to Kaminari. He might need some coaching after Shoda and Rin destroyed him." Ojiro laughs, patting Tokoyami on the shoulder as a signal that they need some alone time.
The combo of Rin's scales and twin impact was too much for Kaminari and Sero to handle.
Tokoyami catches on.
"Indeed. His light was snuffed out and reduced to mere embers. He will need consultance after such a devastating blow to his dignity.." Tokoyami preaches as the two walk off.
Setsuna blinks. It sometimes amazed her how similar him and Kuroiro were.
'So dramatic.'
She then focuses her attention back to Koda, who was now a nervous wreck. Setsuna looks around. Some people were looking on in shock with their jaws dropped and were whispering.
'Perfect.'
"So you want to go for round two? Maybe this time you'll be the one pinning me down~" She made sure to whisper the last part in his ear, her breath tickling the tip of his ear.
"U-uhhhhh." Koda had completely shut down. He was at a complete loss for what to do.
Setsuna playfully roles her eyes. She then leans up against Koda and places her head against his chest.
"Your heartbeat is so quick. Why would that be?" she asks in an innocent tone, looking up at Koda.
Koda sputters before clearing his throat. He inhales deeply, trying to summon the courage to speak to her.
"Its because, well I uh. Its because I." Koda is like a broken record player. He can't stop repeating the same thing.
"What could it be? Is it me? Does your heart beat for me Koda?" She asks with that same devilish smirk.
Koda could do nothing but nod. She wasn't lying. Never would he have imagined that Tokage would be interested in talking with him. He didn't know why, he couldn't fathom a reason for why she wanted to talk with him.
"Awe, ya big cutie~ It's fine. I have that effect on people." She giggles.
The questions burned deep in his mind. Why him? Why was this happening to him? Tokoyami, Ojiro, Sato, and everyone else was so much more interesting than he was.
"W-Why?" he manages to say lowly. He just had to know.
Setsuna looks at him confused.
"What are you reffering to?"
"Why me? I'm not that interesting. I'm just some boring background character" Koda squeaks out, he flicks his gaze to Todoroki, Bakugo, and Midoriya, who were all talking with groups of people.
"I'm just the quiet kid. The ugly rock head freak. The loser that everyone forgets about." he continues on, looking down.
Setsuna looks at him, her teasing sense gone. The guy looked genuinely sad once he said that. Is that how he felt? She knew he was shy, but she didn't know he had low self-value as well.
Setsuna sighs, she releases his arm and backs away from him.
Koda then snaps his head back to her in shock. Feeling her warm arm gone felt like a blow to him. Already he was getting used to her warmth and to have it taken away, left him feeling kind of cold on the inside.
Setsuna then shocks him by taking both of his massive hands in her own. Koda looks down in shock, feeling how soft her hand were.
"Koda you're not none of those things you just said. That's just what negative people have told you. You are an amazing person. You always help those around you, you care about animals, and you are one hell of an opponent in the field. Your features make you unique, not ugly. I mean I caught slack about my sharp teeth, yet I didn't let it drag me down. You can't listen to what others say, you have to prove them wrong. You've got one of the coolest quirks, the ability to talk to animals? That fucking rocks! All I can do is split my body up, I can't send armies of insects to attack someone or help animals. You're not a loser, you have friends. People like you even if you don't know it." She was sincere about every word.
Koda blushes as he says his response.
"No way, you have a way better quirk. You can do so much more. You defeated me. You have lots of people who care about you. I think your sharp teeth are awesome, they remind me of reptiles. Besides, Midoriya, Bakugo, and Todoroki are amazing. I can't touch them."
Setsuna blushes from the compliments he said. Yet she composed herself once she hears the last part.
"Koda you have to stop comparing yourself to others. Those three are just far ahead of just about everyone. Remember when me and my team were destroyed by Bakugo? I was mad too. I kept calling myself weak for losing that quickly. Yet I didn't back down. I trained harder, tested myself more. You can't let ency drag you down the wrong path. You look the challenge in the eye and say 'I'm going to beat you'. You train hard. Who cares if those three are ahead now? One day you might surpass them and rise to the top."
"But-But-"
Setsuna puts her finger on his lips to shut him up.
"Stop. No more negativity. We are going to train and get better. I am not going to let you talk bad about yourself like that again. We are going to get strong and beat those three you hear me? We are winners." Setsuna's eyes bore right into his. She was serious about this.
"B-Beat them? How?" Koda asks surprised.
Setsuna doesn't answer. Instead, she grabs his arm, and with an incredible show of strength, she drags him towards the training room.
"T-Tokage..." He says blushing.
Everyone stops and looks at the display in shock, mouths agape.
"It appears our friend has been taken by a vicious beast. May the shadows have mercy on his soul." Tokoyami bows his head, hoping his friend had a good fate.
Everyone sweatdrops looking at him.
'So dramatic.' they all think.
