Chapter 6 - Justice and Expeditions
Council Room, four days after invasion
After the invasion had ended and Suna was forced to accept surrender. The village had done it's best to recover. Normally it became arrogant and exclaimed about it's greatness. That was shut down once the former hokages mentioned how weak they've allowed themselves to become as they were attacked with their pants down. Which left Artemisia's army of clay warriors (and the shinigami to an extent) to decimate Orochimaru's forces along with the suna ninja he was puppeteering.
Of course many were still too high and mighty to assume that "The Witch" was the one who saved them. Especially after they realized that she was just "The Demon Brat" in disguise. That only infuriated the resurrected Uzumaki women who exposed Hiruzen along with the elders and Jiraiya who were in on it.
By then, Minato had denounced his predecessor for his actions along with denouncing Jiraiya as his teacher. Shocking the entire village that their beloved yondaime who they were but a step below of praising like a god would denounce such legendary figures of their village. It was worse when Tsunade would also denounce her former teammate and sensei. Along with Hashirama and Tobirama who felt the same way about their former student who has fallen far from grace. By putting all of his faith in a prophecy from a senile summon. One who praised about the world achieving peace through the sacrifice of an individual.
Whereas Jiraiya and Hiruzen Sarutobi believed in sacrifice by allowing abuse, corruption and slavery run rampant in the village they think so highly of. Though their opinions no longer as the two are still petrified statues and will receive their own trial when the time comes. Surprisingly enough, after earning Ultimecia's trust, she did give them Golden Needles which are said to cure petrification which can cancel out a Gorgon's bloodline.
As for today, Minato took back the seat with his other predecessors behind him. Both currently acting as temporary advisors as Koharu and Homura were taken in for questioning. Danzo almost managed to escape his fate, but was restrained thanks to a technique that Tsunade had informed them of. Everyone was shocked to see how far Naruko had developed on her own to go as far as to manipulate Danzo when she wanted and keep him restrained like a puppet. It was safe to say that none of his dark actions from behind the scenes were her fault, but all she did was keep him from harming her or certain individuals from a distance.
Ultimecia still saw some flaws in the technique but had no trouble in catching the Yami of Shinobi. Thus leaving him under heavy guard. Which made it harder for ROOT to break him out as the puppeteering spell forced Danzo to command his own shinobi to stay away. In a way, the ROOT ninja under his command now had a new master that they could not harm due to their robotic like conditioning.
"Ok, let's get this over with." Minato said as he pulled out the necessary files.
"We have a lot of work to go over and this is very important. This village has become too soft and focused on all the wrong things." Hashirama said in a serious tone despite the fact his younger brother stared at him. This confused the Kami of Shinobi, "Something wrong otouto?" he asked curiously.
"Hashirama, why are you wearing glasses?" Tobirama asked as Hashirama wore a fake pair of glasses.
"I thought it helped me look serious." Hashirama answered as Tobirama pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Can you even see with them on?" Tobirama asked as Hashirama remained silent.
"What's today's agenda again?" Hashirama asked his successor now trying to change the subject.
"To look at the status of the village and deal with criminals." Minato answered as some of the council members looked arrogant.
Especially the Kurama clan representative, "Starting with the treacherous witch I'm assuming?" he asked.
Minato glared at the man, "Choose your words carefully Kurama-dono. Many people in this village are already on thin ice." he said.
Unkai scoffed at his words, "Well seeing as you allowed your child..."
"May I remind you that it was such bigotry that caused this mess? Unless you have something important worth mentioning related to village security. I recommend you remain silent." Minato told Kurama who remained silent but internally fumed.
"Hey before we get into anything troublesome. Shouldn't we wait for Hiashi?" Shikaku asked as everyone noticed the Hyuga head was currently missing.
Speaking of the Hyuga, Hinata came right in a very regal looking kimono with a scroll in hand, "I apologize for my tardiness. I had to prepare a last minute document." she said.
"Young lady, where is your father?" Inoichi asked as he and several others were confused by the situation.
"As of approximately 35 days ago, my tou-san is discharged of his position as clan head. Which he was then forced to surrender to me and my appointed advisors due to my lack of experience. That and Hanabi-chan is a small child with no shinobi experience." Hinata explained as Hanabi did challenge her but earned a bonk on the head instead.
Hinata then presented a stamped document. The stamp belonged to her clan and could only be obtained by the clan head and at rare times, the elders. However what no one was aware was that 90% of the elders were brutally massacred. Though they were better off with quick deaths than Hinata's grandfather who was forced to fight until his lifeforce gave out and he died shortly after collapsing. Ironically enough, Hinata also asked for a representative at the time, but decided to change up her strategy to represent her clan.
"Well then, this isn't natural, but not illegal at the same time." Shikaku said as he read over the document.
"I see, very well. Welcome Councilwoman Hyuga." Minato said as Hinata nodded as she took her seat.
"And of the council elders?" asked a random civilian.
"They are being detained and held for questioning. Clearly my old students believed their age has given them wisdom. Instead they are merely weak in strength and intelligence and are likely going to be tried as criminals." Tobirama explained as he shocked most of the council.
Tsume rolled her eyes, "I knew those wrinkly sacks of crap were in on something suspicious." she said.
Tobirama nodded, "You are correct Inuzuka-san." he said in agreement.
"Anyways, Suna is currently without a Kazekage as its been revealed that he was assassinated by Orochimaru. Who had orchestrated this invasion and disposed of the Kazekage when he no longer needed him. Therefore he puppeteered suna's shinobi force to attack us." Minato explained as the council contemplated how to approach a village that was likely in a worse situation than their own.
A few were shouting for unreasonable demands. Which were shot down as that would bleed suna dry. It didn't help that they lost a lot of funding from the Wind Daimyo due to having his missions sent to Konoha to save money. So they were likely already close to an economic recession with how desperate they were to go as far as going to war. That and their military numbers have likely dwindled due to the failed invasion and Artemisia's intervention with a foreign enemy force to suppress them.
Then again, it was those clay warriors that embarrassed Konoha by saving them and capturing any stragglers to have locked away.
For the most part, all they did was talk about where the village had taken the most hits and where they needed to begin repairs. Luckily, very few civilians and foreign visitors were harmed and none were killed. Which did save face in some cases. With all the basics covered, all they had to do was confront Jiraiya and Hiruzen.
"Bring them in." Minato ordered as some more loyal shinobi had come in with dollies.
The dollies carried the petrified bodies of the gama sennin and sandaime hokage. The civilians gasped and looked outrage at the state but were immediately silenced. Minato still had those golden needles he was given but kept them away at the moment.
"Now, we may begin the process of punishing these two. For abuse of a clan member and child abuse along several acts abuse of power." Minato said as everyone became serious of such allegations against two well respected shinobi.
At the same time, Ultimecia's castle
Naruko sat up and panted rapidly before realizing where she was.
"Oh good, you're finally awake." Naruko turned her head to see that Ultimecia had come in.
Sensing her power to be far beyond her own. Naruko realized that this was not the clay doppelganger she used to fool Tsunade the first time. She now remembered that her ancestor had been successfully revived and returned to the land of the living. Thinking about it now, she didn't really have a clue as to what do now that Ultimecia was alive and that her tormentors were likely facing punishment.
"That homunculus child would stop bothering me or anyone else. Always asking about his sister's condition." Ultimecia said in an annoyed tone.
"Please forgive Roxas-kun, ancestor." Naruko said as she tried to stand up and bow her head.
"Sit back down, you're in no condition to stand up. You wasted too much mana and that Toad was more dangerous than he looked. Had I been there alone, I would have decimated him and the entire arena." Ultimecia said in a scolding manner. Only to kneel beside the bed and place a hand under Naruko's chin, "Now let us catch up Naruko. It's been a while since I was merely a fragment in your mind." she said as Naruko smiled.
"Ancestor, pardon my selfishness but after asking for your help. I did not have a plan as to what you wanted to do now that you are fully alive." Naruko told her.
"Even with all the knowledge and skill. You are still a naive child." Ultimecia said to the sorceress in training. "What is your age? 10? 11?" she asked.
Naruko shook her head, "12, but I will be 13 along with Menma in October." she answered.
Ultimecia narrowed her eyes, "Of course, this foolish world continues to create child soldiers. I suppose it isn't enough to be using sentient masses of negative chakra to be used as weapons. While treating their containers as vermin." she said with much restrained disgust. She then tilted her head, "Though I could call myself a hypocrite, by teaching you such things as a child. Whether it be for vengeance, destruction or just self defense. Regardless, you still have much to learn." she said.
"Are you considering training me some more ancestor?" Naruko asked while internally hopeful.
"Possibly, you have many spells and skills, but power alone is not enough. I am not much of one for fuinjutsu or physical combat, but there are ways for you to do better. Especially with such a ridiculous name like Artemisia." Naruko blushed at the mention of her new alias. "It's too much like my own name and yet you haven't properly graduated." she said.
"What would you name me ancestor?" Naruko asked as she was given a deep look into the woman's golden eyes.
Ultimecia remained silent for a moment until speaking again, "Morganna would suit you best." she answered.
Downstairs
Kushina stared at amazement at the homunculus child that Naruko saved. Roxas was his name and he was supposedly a clone created with various DNA samples including the very ones from Hashirama himself. While Kushina debated as to whether or not her daughter did the right thing or if she even had the right to judge Naruko or Artemisia as she wished to refer to self as. She could clearly see that she saved the life of a child who deserved happiness than to be shoved into the frontlines as a soldier with no free will.
"Oba-chan, you wanna see my drawings?" Roxas asked as he ran up to Kushina.
Kushina gave him a delighted smile, "Ok Roxas-kun, what do you have?" she asked.
Roxas pulled out his sketchbook, "Me and nee-chan, nee-chan's pretty magic, oba-chan living with me and nee-chan and me being a knight for nee-chan. he said as he presented each drawing he made.
Kushina giggled, "They're nice drawings Roxas-kun." she said as she ruffled the boy's head.
"I'm gonna show nee-chan when she wakes up. Oba-sama is checking on her right now." Roxas said as he looked at the stairs where Ultimecia left.
"Naruko-sama should awaken soon. She is much stronger than she lets on." Ana said being loyal as ever.
"Pardon me Ana-san, but... why is someone from the Gorgon clan such as yourself not in Kiri?" Kushina asked not realizing she invoked some of Ana's anger.
"I will not ally myself to those murderers!" Ana said in a cold voice.
"Oba-chan, Ana-nee doesn't like talking about the mean people in Kiri. They hurt Ana-nee." Roxas said as Kushina nodded.
"I apologize for my rudeness Ana-san." Kushina said as Ana looked away.
"I apologize for my outburst Kushina-dono." Ana said trying sound apologetic.
What Kushina didn't know was the bloodline purges that took place in Kiri. Like many other clans, Ana lost her sisters and parents who died so she could escape. Though karma had quickly arrived for Ana's aggressors. In the form of her ancestor, Naruko had found the ring leaders behind the massacre of Ana's family and... it's too gruesome to say. However death and simple painful methods would have been enough. Hatred was rewarded with hatred which turned into fear.
Many of the purge supporters were frightened by the public display Naruko left behind. Hatred breeds hatred, but fear... fear is infectious and would transmit itself to many as the the supporters were shaken by the deaths of their allies. In time, Mei Terumi won the war for her rebellion and thus the former enemy begrudgingly accepted defeat. Those who survived and surrendered of course. The survivors didn't want to run into an S rank criminal that Ultimecia was and now they would be more fearful once more when they hear that the real Ultimecia had returned to the world.
Back to Ana, seeing as she had her own form of justice. She wanted to put Kiri behind her, even if there was a new Mizukage who would fix things and make her village strong and safe again. With no purpose, she turned to the young woman who she would give her undying loyalty to. Now Ana, formerly Medusa, watches over Naruko as a guardian and seeks to assist Naruko in any way to achieve her goals and aspirations.
Speaking of Naruko, she came down the stairs with her ancestor behind her.
"Nee-chan!" Roxas exclaimed as he ran up to the older girl and hugged her waist. Naruko smiled as she stroked the back of his head, "Why did you take so long nee-chan?" he asked worryingly.
"Nee-chan needed to rest. I did use a lot of power to beat the bad guys after all." Naruko said hoping her adoptive brother would understand.
"Ok, can you look at my drawings? I put oba-chan in my drawings today." Roxas said excitedly as he picked up his sketch pad.
Naruko then turned to Kushina, "That's good otouto, do you mind if I have a moment with your oba-chan?" she asked.
"Ok, I'll draw more while you talk." Roxas said as he scurried back to his spot where Ana guarded him.
"Naruko-chan?" Kushina asked as she approached her daughter.
"Yes." Naruko replied only to be engulfed in a hug by a teary Kushina.
"Oh my baby! Oh my angel! Please forgive your baka of a mother! I tried to argue with your father but he's a bigger baka! When I get my hands on that pervert of a godfather, I'm going to skin him alive and use that old monkey's flesh and turn it into a rug!" Kushina yelled as she switched from becoming a distraught mother to a vengeful scorned woman.
Which made it difficult for Naruko to escape her mother's grip of death. Though Ultimecia found it entertaining and a bit sad. She felt a tinge of depression knowing she never had the chance to spend the rest of her life with her Morganna who she hid away. Hoping that a good samaritan had taken her in and raised her well after the sorceress herself had passed away fighting a large army on her own.
In the end, who needs power to trample over others when you could be fulfilled with the love of family?
One month later
At this time, Konoha had recovered from the attack. Many questions came as to what happened to Naruko and Ultimecia who had crippled what's left of Orochimaru's forces and forced Suna to flee. For now, Minato, who retook the hat, had explained that they were official allies. It was hard for the village to believe seeing as they were tampering with missions. In the end, it was revealed that it was mostly an attempt to make the Sandaime's reign look weak before trying to expose him.
While it was debatable and such acts are questionable, no one was harmed outside of anyone that came to close to the encampments lead by Karin. Those clay warriors and golems were rather sensitive about who was friend or foe. Then again, many Konoha shinobi felt the same way and entered the occasional crossfire before being forced to retreat. While this did earn some protest, they were effectively silenced by the village's government and reminded that they cannot have everything they want. It was childish and such actions are beneath one of the five hidden villages.
Barbaric is the best way to describe everyone's actions rather than justified and the daimyo wishes to see this upon arrival.
As for the family themselves, Naruko had given her father a chance but remained neutral because of his actions. Ultimecia didn't believe in random hate solely to avoid her kinsman from destroying herself. Kushina was more easy to get along with seeing as she understood the stress of being a jinchuriki and being a foreigner in a new village. Menma already understood what was going on and knew he wasn't some gift from kami or a single individual meant to change the tide of the world. A prophecy was meant to be advise and clearly Jiraiya and his toads were crossing over dangerous boundaries that would damage it rather than fix it.
Now the month had passed and Tobirama acted as the judge for the trial. He watched as the ANBU came walking in with the still petrified statues of the sandaime and sannin. Kushina glared at the statues as she kept a warm hold around Naruko. She could also sense Ultimecia briefly flaring her presence as she likely cloaked herself to stay hidden. Meanwhile Minato sat next to them and Menma while rubbing his temples to soothe what felt like an endless headache of trouble since his resurrection.
Now here came the revelation and they can see how far the two have fallen from grace. The ANBU stepped forward as two of their teammates stepped forth and hesitantly used the golden needles they were given. Completely unsure or aware of how they would work. When they jabbed their individual needles, the sharp objects melted crumbled away as the petrification was released.
The sandaime and sannin had regained consciousness.
"Where am I!? Where's Naruko!?" Jiraiya asked before realizing he was surrounded.
"Where is that witch!? She's going to destroy the village!" Hiruzen exclaimed as he also noticed his situation.
"Jiraiya of the sannin, Hiruzen Sarutobi, you are both under trial of abuse of power, abuse of children and potential conspiracy." Tobirama said as a giant folder was dropped onto their defense. "How do you two plead?" he asked.
Both men were flabbergasted at the accusation. They've worked this hard and made so many sacrifices for their village and Tobirama accuses them of harm?
"Not guilty!" the both answered at the same time.
"Very well, may the prosecutor begin with opening statements." Tobirama said as a prosecutor from the Fire Capital had arrived to present the case.
"Ladies and gentlemen of Konohagakure. As stated by Nidaime-sama, the defendants have among various other things, committed abuse of power, abuse of children, who are clan heirs I might add and potential conspiracy." the prosecutor said as he stood up. "In detail, we must start at the beginning. As you may all remember, the kyuubi attack had taken place almost 13 years ago on October 10th. From there, it was announced that Naruko Uzumaki was an orphaned individual and contained the kyuubi. This is a complete lie." he said as some people gasped while others were confused.
By now many people were already restrained from screaming about demons and witches and everything. This was supposed to be a civilized case after all.
"In fact, the true jinchuriki was Menma Uzumaki. Twin brother of Naruko-san and they were separated from birth with hopes of molding one to be a loyal guard dog and the other to be a slave for the village." the prosecutor said.
Jiraiya slammed his hands down in anger, "Bullshit! Menma was taught loyalty and Naruko needed to learn her betters!" he said before being restrained.
"That's the same thing Jiraiya-san, you only wish to make it sound more civilized." the prosecutor replied.
"Sensei?" Jiraiya asked now turning to Hiruzen.
"No comment." the sandaime said feeling reluctant.
"Moving on, whilst the Yondaime did wish for Menma to be seen as a hero. Naruko was under threat of being constant attacks as a child for allegedly containing the kyuubi at the the time. As sandaime hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi had forgotten that his power is absolute. Therefore an attack on his authority, should be an attack on the village and yet all he did was create a few warning and imprisonments. Leaving Naruko-san in the same position as before with the fear for her life." the prosecutor continued to explain as things looked worse.
"That covers child abuse if you count separation of children." Tobirama said acknowledging his words.
"The separation is against the final testament of the parents as well nidaime-sama." the prosecutor added as Jiraiya could not avert the glare coming from his student.
Well, his now former student.
"How does the defense rebut the claim?" Tobirama asked.
Jiraiya did the predictable and acted irrationally, "It was a necessary sacrifice! All shinobi must sacrifice! Kids cannot learn anything without losing a little bit in their lives!" he would have continued until Tobirama spoke up.
"And what have you sacrificed Jiraiya-san? If I didn't know any better, I would say that everything has fallen in your favor up until now." Tobirama asked.
"I had to separate my god children of course." Jiraiya said as he wasn't prepared for the question. Though he did have a few more excuses which he think would only end horribly for him, "I couldn't continue my famous works of literature either." he added.
Yet he said it anyways.
"Objection! Pornagraphy does not count as a duty Jiraiya-san. You are the author of Icha Icha paradise correct?" the prosecutor asked.
Hiruzen sighed, "Jiraiya, I think you should remain silent." he said as Jiraiya had already learned to keep his mouth shut about his hobbies.
"Silence, how professional. It only further confirms the claim. Especially with the rumors of how you would obtain such material." the prosecutor said as Jiraiya cursed under his breath.
"Hiruzen Sarutobi, how do you rebut the claims?" Tobirama asked in a challenging tone.
Hiruzen took a deep breath as he spoke, "As my student said, it was for the good of the village. The village was weak and the only thing we had to prove our strength was a jinchuriki, but Menma needed to be trained. So keeping Naruko around and deceiving the potential threats with her as jinchuriki, it only made sense to keep the village safe." he explained.
"Ridiculous, while a jinchuriki by now is often seen as a military asset." the prosecutor started to say which only made Kushina angry. "You only created a target on the wrong person Sarutobi-dono. In fact, by doing this you gave the villagers a scapegoat and someone attack. In fact, if Naruko-san is your military asset, you put the village security at risk. You would have done better to keep it a secret." the prosecutor stated only making the former hokage look foolish.
Though many members of the audience hated the idea. Many believing they were justified to vengeance regardless. Though the few nobles here only scoffed at them and made them look barbaric. Which only made the villagers also feel a bit stupid and rather naive. They wished to further blame Naruko regardless, but now they were legally considered child abusers.
It was no mystery other villages abused jinchuriki as well as having permission from their respective daimyo. Though to attack an actual child made it worse on them. A kage's daughter no less and from an endangered clan made it worse. No one in Kumo would dare attack Killer Bee of Kumo due to him being adopted by the sandaime Raikage and brother of the current Raikage. It was a death sentence in a literal sense and reputation wise.
After all, how can a nameless individual defend their actions against someone of greater status than their own?
"Then you wouldn't understand my pressure! The demands of the councils and the people would force my hand to reveal it eventually!" Hiruzen countered.
"I fail to see how that would affect you Hiruzen." Tobirama said as Hiruzen looked confused. "Are you not the hokage? Are you the supreme being of the village before the daimyo? Are the advisory council members meant to do more than advise, as stated in their title? Clearly I made a poor choice in a man with no backbone, if not giving into old age." he said belittling his elderly student.
"You know they would eventually turn to the daimyo!" Hiruzen argued.
"While it is a valid reason, at the same time it would be costly on them as well. Depending on the outlook, it would end in a win or permanent termination of their position. As there are several charters as to how much power the council can gain and none of them can be removed." the prosecutor said having knowledge of Konoha's constitutional laws.
"He is correct, no matter how much power the advisors or councilmen have or attempt to gain. It all goes back to the hokage and laws contradicting the original founding laws are null and void." Tobirama explained in agreement.
So that confirms the councils can argue and demand all they want, but will less power than they believe.
"Seeing this, I can confirm the abuse of children and clan heirs is correct. Along with abuse of power seeing as separating the twin children only harmed the clan rather than benefit them or the village." Tobirama said after a small pause.
"Wait, I trained Menma to believe in the village and understand it's sacrifices! He should be allowed to have a word in!" Jiraiya said forgetting that Menma abandoned his principles.
With that, Menma was allowed to take a seat. He was then allowed to answer questions and speak freely after being told to tell the truth and nothing but the truth in his testimony.
"Menma Uzumaki Namikaze, do you believe that your teacher, Jiraiya, had harmed you and your sister by creating the separation?" the prosecutor asked.
"Objection! Hey that's not the right kind of question to ask! It puts me in a bad light!" Jiraiya interrupted only for Tobirama to slam the gavel down.
"Be silent gama sennin! Otherwise I will grant you your sentence now along with contempt of court!" Tobirama warned as he had enough of the man's immature attitude.
Menma cleared his throat as he answered, "The answer to your question. Yes he did harm me, but I am not the victim here. He put me in the delusion that I would be a savior to the village so long as my sister was used as a slave in a village that saw her as a demon that needed to be "disciplined" like a wild animal." he said.
Menma thanked his sister for proper courtesy along with Ultimecia on how to speak properly without contractions or slang. While he wanted to let go of his emotions, Ultimecia told him to let the fools ruin themselves in public.
"Could you better explain by discipline?" the prosecutor asked.
"I mean as in beating the love of the village into her. While I was given bedtime stories about the heroes of the village. Naruko-nee was given the experience of the horrors of reality and the true nature of the villagers. That so long as you are a part of something big, you will not be given respect and treated like an animal for something out of your control." Menma said while keeping his emotions in check.
'Good boy, I know you wish to throttle the life out of those fools. However that would ruin you and put your sister in more danger.' Ultimecia thought as she remained hidden.
Jiraiya gritted his teeth seeing that Menma no longer looked things his way. All his delusions were just turned into questions demanding to know why Menma turned out this way. All the time and effort he spend trying to mold Menma into this zealous loyal shinobi of Konoha and now he's turning Jiraiya's reputation as a respectable shinobi into a fool with self gain. It's not that Jiraiya was being painted in the image of a fool, he was painted in his true image and he didn't want that regardless of what the truth was to him.
"I believe that Jiraiya-san had fallen far from grace. That he used the excuse of a prophecy from his toad summons as an excuse to turn me into a zealot. Then likely wanting me to force the same believes onto Naruko." Menma added which only gave Jiraiya more looks of disappointment.
"That is enough Uzumaki-san. You may be seated." Tobirama told the boy as he rejoined his family.
"And you Hiruzen, did you support your student based on superstitions such as prophecies? Something that is frowned upon because they often create catastrophes?" Tobirama asked critically.
It was due to prophecies and other stories like the curse of hatred that feuds such as the Uchiha and Senju exist. Prophecies are often manipulated or read wrong, which people of higher statuses use to tamper with the chain of commands of their homes to gain power. Mostly by cursing people for being different.
In another dimension, Escanor sneezed and suddenly had bad thoughts about his childhood.
"It made sense back then. Jiraiya had only grown stronger by acquiring the toad contract and by learning senjutsu as well. Knowing this, I believed them to be a reliable asset as their great elder toad is very knowledgeable." Hiruzen said which only made Tobirama scoff.
"As I said before Hiruzen, as your strength diminished with age. So did your knowledge and wisdom to rely on a senile toad." Tobirama said.
"Tobirama-sama, you must see where we went with this! Menma may be the savior or at least the key to Konoha's survival!" Hiruzen exclaimed.
"Konoha's survival or is there something more? A prophecy can change or be manipulated. How do I know this isn't for something bigger?" Tobirama asked as he could see Jiraiya trying to hide it.
Before someone could call out Jiraiya's secret, Minato raised his hand, "It's something bigger nidaime-sama." he spoke up.
"Nidaime-sama, I must object to the yondaime's outburst." the prosecutor suggested as he wasn't entirely trusting of the man since he was Jiraiya's apprentice.
"I'll allow it, come forth and speak Namikaze-san." Tobirama said granting Minato his chance to speak up.
Like his son, Minato took a deep breath as he was ready to answer the question, "Minato Namikaze, by any chance did you plan for your children to be separated? Was this all approved should your untimely death occur?" the prosecutor asked.
Minato shook his head, "No, it was never approved. Initially I believed that Jiraiya would make a great godfather seeing as he was practically a father figure for me. About some time before the kyuubi attack, he approached me and told me about this prophecy where he believed I was the chosen one. The child of prophecy as he called me." he explained.
"Please continue." the prosecutor told him.
"The prophecy in a nutshell was that Jiraiya would one day train someone in the ways of the shinobi. That one person would someday bring peace to the world and end all conflict." Minato finished.
"Defense?" Tobirama asked.
"My only defense is there is no world without Konoha being there on top!" Jiraiya argued.
"He's right, Konoha has been will prepared and made it through the harshest conflicts. We've won all three shinobi world wars!" Hiruzen tried to argue.
"Yet you were kage for two of them and clearly done nothing to work towards ending them." Tobirama shot back as he was only aware of one war as he sacrificed his life during that war.
Tsunade was among the crowd and knew very well that there hasn't been much effort to stop these wars. Sure there were many ways to look at how the wars start, but there have been some crises where another shinobi war could have started. She lost her lover and brother in the second war while her great uncle and grandfather died during the first. There are ways to prevent wars or at least prepare for the catastrophes in her mind, but there wasn't a way to ensure peace with a single individual alone.
It's only fortunate that a formerly deceased sorceress brought them back. Along with helping stop another threat that had nearly destroyed the village.
"You relied too much on hope and pride rather than trying to rebuild a new world. In this age, the five hidden villages are no different from the warring states. The difference being that some clans just decided to follow the same banner." Tobirama said as he had to restrain his disgust. "Does the state have any other questions or evidence to bring up?" he asked the prosecutor as it was his job to represent the village and it's laws.
"There is the matter of Orochimaru. While thank kami he is deceased and no longer a threat. It was the sandaime who let him escape after he commited his horrendous experiments and allegedly, it was Jiraiya-san who failed to catch him due to an old friendship in their past." the prosecutor replied as there was still the matter of abuse of authority.
"Orochimaru caught us all off guard. Even then I couldn't bring myself to kill my pupil." Hiruzen said feeling genuine sorrow.
The prosecutor turned this despair against the defense, "I may not understand the world of the shinobi's Sarutobi-san, but is it not a shinobi's duty to avoid clouding their judgement with emotion? I'm not saying they should be machines, but often times, it is emotion that can distract you from your goals." he said using the little knowledge he knows about the ninjas and their way of thinking.
"He is correct Hiruzen, a shinobi still needs free will and the ability to think on their own. However that does not mean you should become sentimental and overly emotional towards criminals. Doing so the village was attacked and would still be in danger if this Orochimaru individual still lived. After all, I remember seeing your grief once he was killed in battle." Tobirama lectured as Hiruzen cursed his word choice.
Jiraiya being no different as he had no defense. A failed mission is a failed mission, but if the reasons for such a failure are within your control. Then it can affect you in a negative light. Jiraiya did feel some attachment to Orochimaru in some love hate relationship. Almost like siblings, but he could never bring himself to try harder to find the snake sannin and end his life.
"No reply? Well then, I think I have my final verdict. Unless either side is has anything left to say." Tobirama said before looking towards the jury.
"Nothing at this moment nidaime-sama." the prosecutor said even though he still had more trials to go over.
Even Hiruzen knew he was out of luck. Though he and Jiraiya still had hope that they could appeal to the daimyo and overturn the decision. Hopefully persuading him to see that their plight and hard work shouldn't be thrown away. That the formerly deceased hokage's way of thinking is outdated and times of change need to happen. Both were unaware that the daimyo was also in attendance, but cloaked with a strong genjutsu to avoid any form corruption from reaching him should the two attempt to make an appeal.
For now, the jury had to decide their fate.
"While the sandaime hokage and gama sennin have provided years of loyalty and safety towards Konoha. We the jury find them guilty of all accounts including abuse of clan heirs and power as hokage and sannin." the speaker of the jury announced.
"Very well then, I sentence the two of you to have your chakra sealed away permanently and placed community service to pay of your debts to the village you love ever so much. Along with compensating the Uzumaki Namikaze family in the way they best deem to be fair." Tobirama stated as he slams down the gavel and finishing his verdict.
Leaving the two men in shock that their work was for nothing. Still clinging onto that hopeless idea of the daimyo saving them by looking like victimized heroes. Only for the despair that was waiting to hit them and leaving them to suffer for their actions.
However as their despair was going on, an ANBU had arrived to interrupt the end of the trial.
"What is the meaning of this?" Tobirama demanded.
"Nidaime-sama, the missing nins Kisame Hoshigaki and Itachi Uchiha have been spotted and all civilians are warned to stay indoors!" the ANBU warned as Tobirama narrowed his eyes.
"Set the village to lockdown immediately!" Tobirama ordered as security started to prepare itself.
Naruko turned to the corner of her sight to see that Ultimecia revealed her presence for a nanosecond before disappearing. Most likely to see where the trouble was. The ancient woman did take the past month to research the new world that she had awakened. No doubt the concept of high ranking dangerous criminals caught her interest.
With the missing ninja
The two missing ninja were currently finding themselves fighting Asuma Sarutobi and Kurenai Yuhi along with several other ANBU who had attempted to take them on before. Only it failed badly as the two jounin were the last ones standing.
"You know, if Kushina-san didn't beat the crap out of Kakashi. I wouldn't mind having him here to help us." Asuma said as Kurenai scoffed.
"Itachi was always the better fighter Asuma." Kurenai said seeing as Itachi made her genjutsu useless.
"Wow, you got some fans here Itachi-san. Almost makes me wish I had the same fame like you." said Kisame as he only looked underwhelmed.
"Konoha has gotten lazy in the past years Kisame. Though don't let that make you keep you distracted." Itachi warned as he kept his Sharingan active.
The Uchiha was correct as something from Konoha was stronger. He didn't know what it was, but Itachi noticed the attack quickly as he grabbed Kisame. The former swordsmen from Kiri looked surprised as Itachi seemed to be more active as if he felt danger. The danger came from above as a giant rune appeared in the sky and started unleashing waves of ethereal blades over where they once stood.
"I heard of summoning animals, but summoning weapons?" Kisame asked genuinely confused but somewhat intrigued by the idea.
"That's not chakra. Kisame beware your surroundings!" Itachi warned as another rune appeared under them and almost skewered them followed by a laser that almost took them out.
"How the hell is it not chakra? I know bloodlines are special and this can't be genjutsu since you would have broken it already." Kisame said as he did admit there was strange forms of ninjutsu out there but something without chakra was foreign to him.
"I can't explain it either, the principle is the same but the function and use is different." Itachi said as he avoided a wave of more blades.
As they tried to figure out what was attacking them. Ultimecia made her grand appearance by floating into the air and gracefully landing. Letting her appearance and power leaking from her to do most of the talking for her introduction.
"Who the hell is the bitch?" Kisame asked arrogantly.
Itachi studied Ultimecia before his eyes widened, "Kisame, that woman is the source of the attacks! Her power is unknown but it is powerful!" he warned.
"You have to be kidding me Itachi. This lady looks like she's some cult leader from Hidan's religion." Kisame said mocking her appearance.
"Pitiful creatures, first a toad and now a fish man." Ultimecia said as she channeled magic around her.
"I got this!" Kisame said excitedly as he dashed at the sorceress.
Had Kisame not ignored his partner's warning. He would have been better prepared for the series of attacks coming at him. Kisame dodged fire and lightning that nearly hit him as he came closer. However just as he tried to slam Samehada down onto her. Ultimecia was protected by a protective barrier that gave her enough time to cast two quick spells.
"Double." Ultimecia casted giving her a chance to use two spells at once. Kisame didn't take his chance to take cover as she unleashed her magic, "Slowga! Firaga!" she yelled sending Kisame flying away with a patch of smoke coming from his cloak.
Kisame chuckled at the idea of having a strong opponent to face. Only to falter as he tried to stop his crash only to slip up and roll away. He realized something was hindering his movements and affecting his senses in the process.
"Kisame, she inflicted something onto you." Itachi pointed out as he could see some of the mana effecting Kisame.
"Kai!" Kisame exclaimed only to feel nothing change.
"It's not genjutsu!" Itachi warned as Ultimecia didn't give them a chance to recover.
"Blizaga." Ultimecia casted as a giant block appeared around them and tried to pierce them.
"Amaterasu!" Itachi countered as he burned most of the ice out.
"Thanks for the ammo! Water Style: Shark Bomb Jutsu!" Kisame exclaimed only to notice that his water started to form very slowly.
When it did form, their new adversary had already countered his attack, "Firaga!" she casted again destroying the sharks.
Kisame sighed, "Damn, I think she hit me with a poison or something. She isn't even using hand seals." he said realizing Ultimecia to be a strong enemy.
"You lack patience Kisame. You need to plan things out like me." Itachi said as he disappeared in a flock of crows.
He then appeared behind Ultimecia and tried stab her with a hidden tanto, "Sneaky tactics will not be enough, kinslayer." Ultimecia told him as Itachi's attack was reflected back to him and caused him to turn into smoke.
Ultimecia raised an eyebrow, "Duplication? Unique and annoying." she commented as the real Itachi appeared.
"Fire Style: Great Fireball!" Itachi yelled as he tested the woman's reflexes.
Only for the fire to go right back at him, "A direct assault is not enough." Ultimecia said as she sent more blades flying at him.
While Itachi was able to avoid the fireball. He tossed several kunai and shuriken to counter the weapons. With no success as they were stronger and faster. Which left Itachi's cloak with a few holes and tears as he managed to avoid being impaled.
Kisame managed to find the strength to move faster and helped try to block most of the weapons. Though they weren't conventional run of the mill swords or enhanced blades meant for expert kenjutsu users. They were pure energy and very sturdy to avoid being shattered upon use.
"This woman is no joke. I take it back." Kisame said as he grinned.
"Had this been the zombie duo they would have been dead." Itachi said knowing Kakazu would get to eager and Hidan is useless once his limbs are removed.
"Maybe you can catch her in a genjutsu. You know, end it quickly?" Kisame asked.
Itachi thought it over and decided to give it a try, "Give me an opening." he said.
Kisame nodded as he felt the magic's effect leave his body, "Water Style: Water Bullet!" he yelled.
"Protect." Ultimecia said as she surrounded herself in another barrier.
The water bullet managed to push Ultimecia back a few feet and gave Itachi a chance to get closer. Itachi proceeded to toss a few kunai and shuriken hoping to keep her pinned down long enough to catch her off guard. The attacks were blocked by the barrier which left Ultimecia much time to prepare and strategize her next attack.
"Aeroga." Ultimecia casted as she sent a powerful gust of wind at him.
"Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!" Itachi countered putting enough power to stop the wind.
As they fought, Kisame ran up close and formed more hand seals with the extra water that remained, "Hidden Mist Jutsu!" he yelled as he surrounded Ultimecia in a thick mist that obscured her vision.
That's when Itachi came close and revealed his tanto once more. Ultimecia quickly blocked the attack with one of her ethereal swords. Though she lacked the strength and speed to keep up with the former ANBU captain. In actuality, Itachi was holding back and left Ultimecia a chance to strike him by impaling him and delivering more swords into his chest. That's when she realized it was a trap as Itachi exploded and sent her skidding into the ground.
When Ultimecia recovered, she saw Kisame preparing to strike her down with Samehada.
"Thundaga!" she casted as she hit the sword.
Samehada started swallowing the energy surprising the woman, "Nice try, Samehada devours chakra so I guess..." he stopped as he heard Samehada making sounds as if it were sick. "What the...?" as Kisame was distracted by Samehada acting irrationally, he was blasted with a beam of energy.
Though that gave Itachi time to strike. However for a brief moment, Ultimecia was surrounded in a bright light but remained in the same position. Itachi assumed it was her attempt to surround herself in another barrier or prepare a resistance against more attacks. Hopefully his genjutsu would be enough to stop this threat that came in the way. Once Itachi gotten her attention, he looked her deep within her eyes as they changed shape.
"Tsukuyomi." once the attack landed, Itachi was briefly transported to the world of Ultimecia's mind only to be kicked out a moment later.
He looked back at Ultimecia and saw that she started to twitch violently as her eyes rolled to the back of her head. The true horror came as she started to gurgle loudly as ink started to leak out of her mouth and eyes. Before Itachi knew it, a rune activated from right under him and trapped him in a barrier with several chains wrapping around him. Seeing this as a diversion of some sort, Itachi attempted to shunshin and escape only to feel further restrained.
"You aren't my real opponent." Itachi told the creature as it slowly melted into clay.
The clay creature had was then covered in various kanji symbolizing that a seal was activated. What it activated was a powerful explosive the engulfed the several meters of the street and creating a crater that was likely around 20 to 30 meters deep. Itachi survived by utilizing another technique only available from his mangekyou Sharingan. The susanoo, which was like ethereal armor that was very difficult to penetrate and it's underdeveloped state was just about enough to keep him from being killed.
'Where is she? Did she substitute herself with a double?' Itachi wondered as he kept his susanoo up.
"I thought you were still at the courthouse. Not only that, but you interrupted my battle." Ultimecia said in a voice filled with dissatisfaction.
"I apologize ancestors, but I prefer to keep the invaders at bay. I heard of a rumor of men in black cloaks with red clouds." said a voice belonging to Naruko.
"And the boy decided to follow as well?" Ultimecia asked as Menma remained silent.
"A bit too loyal, I should remind him that he has free will of his own." Naruko said as Itachi and Kisame regrouped.
"Just lower the mist. I wish to see the face of my foe when they are defeated." Ultimecia said as a loud thumping could be heard.
"Aeroga!" Naruko casted as she unleashed a stronger wind that had forced the mist to disappear.
Once it was clear, Itachi and Kisame were surprised by the sight of Naruko and Menma. Both now sporting new outfits. Naruko wore a black outfit with blue highlights that revealed her abdomen that now carried red markings. Whereas Menma was wearing strange armor that covered his body head to toe that was silver with red markings.
"Two against three, isn't that unfair?" Kisame asked rhetorically.
"Don't screw up." Naruko said.
"Don't boss me around brat." Kisame berated.
"I wasn't speaking to you." Naruko said as they now noticed Menma was gone.

Kisame quickly blocked an attack that came from behind him. He looked to see that Menma appeared with rapid speed. Not only that, but he revealed a large sword and started striking Kisame with heavy and quick strikes. The attacks weren't as heavy as Kisame's own, but he was much faster which made it difficult for Kisame to keep up with.
"Cheeky brat!" Kisame yelled as he moved away in time for Menma to miss and hit his sword onto the ground. "Take this!" Kisame yelled as he slashed at Menma.
Only for Menma to apply some chakra into his arm to enhance his strength to catch the bandaged up sword. Samehada immediately started to attack Menma by unleashing large spikes but it wasn't enough to pierce his armor. Using Kisame's surprise to his advantage, Menma pushed the sword away and slashed downwards on Kisame leaving a large gash on his face and leaving a giant tear on his coat.
As those two continued fighting, Itachi turned his attention back to the two magic casters. Finding himself on the run as he was too confused and surprised by the way the attacks were formed. Magic didn't have the same level as chakra, but it was less common and had much more potential. Leaving it with less restrictions Itachi had a limited number of ways to counter the attacks. Even worse as the Sharingan couldn't properly predict or copy the attacks to better understand how they function.
"Ancestor, it's best we force this man to retreat. He may be a threat in the future, but we need more knowledge on him and his association." Naruko said as Ultimecia narrowed her eyes.
"Very well, but explain your reasoning later when I request it." Ultimecia said as she continued barraging weapons at Itachi's who's susanoo eventually shattered. As she continued attacking Itachi who resorted barricading himself in the earth, Ultimecia allowed Naruko to step forward, "I will draw him out. You finish him." she said.
"Yes ma'am." Naruko said as she revealed a scepter/halberd hybrid weapon.
Itachi didn't take any chances and tried fighting back, "Lightning Style: Lightning Dragon Jutsu!" he yelled out.
"Quake!" Ultimecia casted forcefully ejecting Itachi from his spot while summoning a pillar from the ground to stop the attack.
As Itachi was trying to recover in mid air. He never realized he was already caught in Naruko's trap as she raised her weapon and slammed it down. Making the sky turn black as large crystal pillars started to fall from the sky.
"There is no retribution, there is no salvation. Despite being at the farthest ends, the birds will sing of tomorrow." she chanted before slamming the weapon down once more. "Please... Lordless Konoha!" Naruko roared as the pillars pierced the streets and made their way to Itachi who attempted to use susanoo once more.
However, Itachi wasn't quick enough as he was hit by a devastating explosion that shattered his armor. Leaving the Uchiha slayer to be tossed around as he crashed into the ground several times before skidding into a halt. Knowing he's ill prepared and in no condition to continue battling the unknown. Itachi realized he needed to escape.
"Kisame, we need to leave. Now!" Itachi ordered as he saw Kisame engaging Menma in a power struggle.
"Hey I think I got this kid!" Kisame tried to argue as he applied more pressure only for Menma to use his force against him.
Thus Kisame was sent flying over the armored boy's shoulder and landed hard onto his back.
"I think I got this fish." Menma retorted with a snort.
Before Kisame could say anything, Itachi managed to make his way to him. Now holding onto his partner, Itachi raised a single hand seal and disappeared in a clock of crows. All flying fast enough before the knight and two sorceresses could strike them down.
All the while, the crowd of ninja and civilians remained fearful of what they had just witnessed. The true scourge of the Uzumaki clan and their demon brat was a lot stronger. Someone who would no longer use verbal warning, but punish with actions. Someone who they had no power or hope to combat in any way possible.
Several months later
Time passed since the attack and the trial. The daimyo revealed himself to everyone the day after and made his announcement of the support the previously deceased hokage. That he would establish all power in the village would belong to the hokage and that the hokage can only answer to him, the daimyo. This wasn't to say that there wasn't ways to argue with the hokage should he abuse his power or if a potential successor does the same. There would be many days and nights were laws would be established to protect the balance of power.
Starting with Hiruzen and his student who were denied an appeal case. Both stripped of their chakra and status before being forced into labor to compensate for their damage. While it did bring fear to many that it would at least effect their spy network as well as their power against the villages. It was a shock to see that Ultimecia of all people was given a chance to strengthen the village as a regent of sorts. Sort of like a bridge between the fire capital and the village itself.
Along with policing the village when it's at its worse. They don't need a civil war and Naruko revealed that she used her magic to save several children of the Uchiha clan including several adults that were retired or working in civilian level jobs. It was hard to believe, but Mikoto Uchiha did reveal that she was unconscious and trapped in another space before finding her way out.
That aside, as the village started to return to a peaceful setting despite the greater changes. Naruko and Menma continued their own training as they had their own plans for the future. From the little knowledge Naruko had along with everything they forced out of Jiraiya. Itachi and Kisame are a part of a group known as Akatsuki. The group is composed of S rank missing ninja from various ninjas. Their objective is to obtain every bijuu from every jinchuriki in the Elemental Nations.
Of course Ultimecia only saw them as fools. Wannabe gods who rose to infamy and now wish to obtain power they have no hope to control. She also doubted they knew what to do should they hypothetically obtain each one. It wasn't arrogance, it was more of some people pushing their luck.
Regardless, Menma had to better prepare himself and to better prepare for the future enemy. During the time after the invasion, Ultimecia had already given Menma a new sword and armor with anti-elemental power. The metal itself was also very durable and could handle heavy attacks including certain high level jutsus.

As for Naruko, she was given a brand new outfit and staff. The staff itself was fused from a lost prototype weapon known as Rhongomyniad and a sword named Excalibur that belonged to Ultimecia's deceased lover. The sorceress even gave the girl marks around her abdomen as a rite of passage. Similar to her own which inspired it. Though Naruko did decline face marks and that strange hairstyle Ultimecia has that looked like horns.

Though her hair did silver when she reached a certain level of power. It helped as she activated her spell, Lordless Konoha. Now Ultimecia dubbed Naruko a true sorceress and only suggested that she start learning from experience, however instead of a training trip or a regiment. Naruko ran into something when she started experimenting and exploring parts of the castle that Ultimecia unlocked. A strange technique similar to space time ninjutsu with a path to new lands.
It was terrifying and nerve racking at first, but Naruko wanted to take the opportunity to explore these new lands. Though that didn't mean she wouldn't stop and visit home every so often. Even then, her subordinates were loyal to her in the end and would follow her when Naruko needed them the most.
Day of the expedition
Naruko stepped stepped out of the portal to the castle. Looking around the forest, she could see various remains and dried blood. At some point in the past, various ROOT shinobi trying to fight in Danzo's name lead a large mob to where they assumed the portal to be. Instead of blind righteous vengeance against Naruko, the various civilians and few ninja found death. They were all cut down to near death, they were spared only to be forced to survive on their own.
Kimimaro and Kingu both attacked and killed anyone with medical supplies and skills. Naruko didn't want to delight in suffering like a sadist, ok maybe a little bit. Her goal was to force Konoha to understand how it felt to fear for your life. To fight for survival. To push forth that need to survive. In other words, force that level of suffering that she felt onto them. Make those ignorant fools fear for their lives and remind them why they can never repeat their same mistakes.
Especially for anyone who couldn't make it out of the forest in time and were taken away by the wild animals. Just a few more bones among the many piles in the dens of the forest's apex predators. It was rather hilarious to think about now. Perhaps there was still someone out there that survived and is still living here like a post apocalyptic survivor.
Then again, it's better to be that individual than Kakashi Hatake. Who is rotting in some cell. Looking worse than any unfortunate victim of Orochimaru who was used in an inhumane experiment. You would think losing his implant and a few fingers would be enough. Clearly Minato and Kushina thought otherwise of their former friend who was more concerned with his own feelings than his teacher's dying wishes.
"Naruko-chan!" Kushina called out.
When Naruko turned to face her mother. She sweat dropped at the giant baggage she brought out.
"Kaa-chan, I'll be gone for a few hours at most. A day in the worst case." Naruko said as Kushina dropped the heavy bag and pouted.
"But what if you get bruised, bitten by weird bugs or get diabetes or..."
"I don't need it." Naruko said as Kushina pouted and hugged her in a tight hold.
"I'm gonna miss you Naruko-chan!" Kushina whined.
"It won't be that long. I'll be back in a little while." Naruko said as Kushina refused to let go.
"BWAAAHHHH!" Kushina started crying.
A long sob later
Naruko adjusted her outfit after Kushina composed herself. Menma eventually arrived along with Minato and Ultimecia. Everyone gave their goodbyes, their promises and various other sentimental things. Thus Naruko could now go through the new portal she created to a new world. Only for Ultimecia to stop her one last time.
"Child, wherever you may end up. Do not be arrogant, but do not let others think you are weak. For you are the only one since myself who is not a fool among our clan. Now, the path is yours to pave in your own image. Just be sure to not forget where you origins lie." Ultimecia whispered into her ear.
"Thank you ancestor. I will see you soon." Naruko said with one last goodbye as she entered the portal to see what lied ahead of her now that her goals have been completed.
Only now, she had new goals to be made.
