Chapter 9 - Talks and Plots

(Max)

He could smell it. There was an animal of some sort in Lucy's home and he wasn't talking about Nanook. It had come into his store. He asked Lucy if they had gotten a new pet and she said no. All they had was Nanook. She mentioned that her father was stuffing some dogs for a few women in the next county over. She mentioned that a friend of her children was visiting. A Ms. Katarina Springs was in town for a while. Max didn't say anything but if this Katarina girl was what he thought she was then his plans could go up in flames. She had the power to destroy everything he was planning. She could destroy him. And that just would not do. Maybe he could use her indirectly to decimate Dwayne and David?

A feral grin crossed his face at that thought. Thankfully Lucy had her back turned to him so she did not see that grin cross his face. It would have terrified her. And he could not have that. Lucy should unquestionably obey him but never fear him but fear the consequence of disobedience. These times were so hard to find an obedient wife. Ever since women got their rights and could be independent it had become hard to be around women. Lucy was a kind woman, who went out of her way to make her previous husband happy. Why should he be any different? In-fact why shouldn't he be treated better than that cheating disappointment she had been married to previously? She should be grateful he even wanted her to be his mate. Lucy should beg for him to allow her into his company.

He could see it in his mind's eye Lucy desperate on her knees, face flushed and lips parted, tears in her eyes, begging him to stay. Begging him to give her attention. Begging him to complete her. He knew that was a fantasy that should never come out aloud. It was a secret fantasy all for him. Well, it may be secret for now. Lucy was so demure. But that was the thing, he could always mold her to the way he needed her to be for his own pleasure. Yes, that would be it.

RING RING

The telephone suddenly rang, pulling Lucy's attention away from the meal she was preparing for him. It was one of her children. It was Sam from what his hearing was telling him.

"Yes, Sam, you can bring guests for dinner tonight. I am glad that you made some friends. Yes, Max is here. Alright see you then, honey." Lucy responded sweetly.

Max could not help but smile at that. His Lucy so sweet and nurturing. The perfect loving mother. She would be the perfect loving wife in his white picket fence world.

(Sam and The Frogs)

"Thanks, Mom. We'll be home shortly." Sam said to her through the phone.

CLICK

"Alright. He'll be there." Alan said and pumped his fist.

"I still don't know why we should trust that Kitty girl." Edgar groused.

Sam rolled his eyes as Alan explained to his brother why.

(Flashback)

Sam and Kitty had returned to the house when it was dark. All of his siblings were there gathered in the living room. So was all their significant others and the little boy, Laddie. Sam got very nervous then. What was going on?

"What's going on?" he asked.

"Sam, we need to tell you something." Mike said seriously, "Please sit."

Sam moved slowly to the La-Z-Boy recliner and sat on the edge. The air was thick with his apprehension. It felt like he was in a room full of ravenous wolves ready to devour him.

"Sammy, you know how you think your friends are crazy for their beliefs?" Kitty started.

"Y..yeah?" he asked.

"They're not crazy." Kitty said and let her eyes glow brightly.

Sam felt his body go boneless. Kitty was.. was.. whatever she was! A vampire? He was pretty sure that was a no. But she was something supernatural.

"W.. what ar..arr. are y.. y.. y.. you?" he stuttered afraid, fear seeping out of his pores.

"I am a Werecat." she answered as if it was the most natural thing.

Now he was confused. He had never heard of werecats. Werewolves, yes. Vampires, ghosts, poltergeists, etc. The Frog brothers knew all about them. But they had never mentioned a werecat.

"They wouldn't know about them. It's ok. I've never hurt you before, why would I now?" Kitty said lightly.

"Sammy, you know I am a witch. You are my baby brother; I would never let anyone hurt you. I love you." Athena tried to placate him.

"Sammy, we need your help." Mike said, hugging Star.

"They're vampires. How do you need my help?" Sam asked, pointing to David.

"Well, I guess those Frogs don't know everything about Vampires then." Paul snarked.

Sam froze. They didn't know everything about Vampires? What did they not know? Well, they didn't know werecats existed, why should they know everything about vampires?

"What do you mean?" Sam asked nervously.

"For starters, there are different breeds of Vampires. We're not all the same. There's us Nightwalkers, also known as Grims, we were created from Peter. He was cursed by God, himself. Then there is the Day-walkers, they're born vampires from royalty. They've been here since the start of creation, children of Lillith. Day-walkers bites can only make Nightwalker vampires called Commons. They are the most abundant vampires. Then there is another type of Day-Walker. They were created by Zeus. These types have their own ruling government called the Volturi." David cited to him.

"Your little Frogs don't know everything. And you better not tell them." Dwayne said quietly as Lucinda popped him on the shoulder.

"Ok!" Sam said raising his hands in surrender, "What does this have to do with me? I'm only human, what can I do?"

"You can get the Frogs to come to dinner and try to expose Max. While you put my venom in the vegetable soup your mother is making for dinner. Directly into Max's bowl, it'll weaken him. While that is happening, we will be waiting in Max's house to take him down." Kitty explained.

"He already suspects us. He is already trying to force David to kill Athena." Lucinda said before Sam could protest, "As the sire he can force those under him to do his bidding. Since David is not much younger than him, he can fight it and shield his brothers from his power. He will not suspect you, Sammy."

Sam sat quietly for several minutes. His siblings needed him. But he was so afraid. But they needed him to be brave. They needed him to save them. He would be brave. He would be the one to save them. They were always there for him with his terrors now it was his turn.

"I'll do it."

(Flashback Over)

"Let's get going." Edgar said shouldering a pack of gear.

All three boys got on their bikes and headed to Sam's house. When they arrived, they noticed Max was there just as Lucy said, his red sports car was out front. They trekked up the walk into the home. Sam could smell his mother was cooking but it was not her vegetable soup. He felt himself begin to panic. They moved to the kitchen to see Lucy beginning to plate the meal and Max was helping bring dishes to the table for everyone.

"Sammy! You and the boys get washed up please." Lucy said.

The boys washed up at the sink. Sam checked over what Lucy still had the stove. She had made pork roast with gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a pie for dessert. The cork sitting on the counter told him that there was going to be wine to drink for the adults. That is where he was going to deposit the venom. He had no other choice. The boys grabbed the fixings and took them to the table. Lucy sat when she noticed they were bringing out the gravy, potatoes, and green beans. Max poured himself and Lucy some wine. Max sat beside Lucy and Sam beside Max. Edgar next to Sam and Alan on Lucy's other side. There was another plate at the table and Lucy made it and asked Sam to take it to his grandfather. That was the cue.

Lucy had forgotten the napkins and some knives for the roast. She always did that. Max volunteered to help her gather the rest from the kitchen. That was the cue for Edgar to mix fresh garlic into Max's potatoes, sprinkle some on the green beans and roast. He would never know until he took a bite. Sam returned before Max and his mother. He told the boys it was hold water he was slipping into Max's wine when it was really the venom. They were making their own plates when Lucy and Max returned. Conversation started peacefully and no one was the wiser that Max's food and drink was spiked.

When dinner was finished and dessert was being brought out Sam noticed that Max was sweating. Sam and his friends cleared the table as Lucy doled out dessert for everyone and took her father a slice of blueberry pie. By time dessert was done even Lucy noticed that Max was beginning to struggle a bit. Max made excuses about having indigestion and decided to leave early. He thanked Lucy for the lovely dinner and dessert and asked if she would come to his house the next night for cocktails, dinner, and movies. She was elated and agreed, walking him to his car. She gave him a peck on the cheek while the boys watched from the window. When Lucy turned back, they left the window and back to the table for their pie.

"He's definitely a vampire." Edgar announced.

Alan and Sam both nodded. Yes, Max was a vampire.

(With Max)

He didn't know what was happening. He had not been sick since he became a vampire. This was not normal. He was there the whole time Lucy cooked so he knew that it was not anything she had done. It must have been those boys. Not innocent and naive Sam but those Frog brothers. They must have done something to his food or his wine. Something was not right. He was so weak. He barely made it home. He struggled up the driveway and to his front door. He was in so much pain that he did not notice that Thorn didn't come to greet him at the door as always.

When he shut the door, he leaned against it heavily. Sweat was pouring profusely all over his body. His suit was already soaked. He struggled to get the wet tie out from around his neck. Slowly he trudged into the living room just as he went to flip the switch the lamp beside his favorite chair turned on. It was David.

"Hello Max." David said coolly and his face shifted.

AN: ANNNNDDD That is scene! For now.
