Chapter 10 - Coming out and Taking Down
Lucy shut the front door as she saw Max drive off. There was something off with him tonight. She wasn't sure what it was. Actually, there was always something off about him. He was a sweet and charming man but there was just something that always nagged at her that there was more to him than what he let on. She returned to the kitchen to clean up the dishes. To her surprise the boys were already doing the dishes. Sam was washing and the one with the camo coat was rinsing while the one with the red bandana was putting left overs in the fridge. This was nice. It was like having the girl's home.
"Thanks, boys." She said appreciatively.
"No problem." Bandana boy said, his gruff voice surprising Lucy.
"Well, I do appreciate it." Lucy said.
They finished up quickly and Lucy sent the boys home with the left overs. Sam introduced them as Edgar and Alan Frog. She was pleased to meet them and invited them over any time they wished. After they left Lucy sat in the kitchen sipping some tea. Her mind was busy about Max. What was she missing?
"Mom? Can I talk to you?" Sam asked.
"Sure. You can always talk to me." She said with a smile.
Sam sat next to her and was quiet. Lucy could feel that something was heavy on his mind.
"Sammy whatever it is you can tell me." Lucy said gently, her youngest was always so sensitive.
"Mom, I have a secret. I just don't want you to hate me or think bad of me." he said tears already springing into his eyes.
"Samuel, I am your mother. I could never hate you nor will I abandon you." she stated firmly, grasping his hand.
Sam swallowed thickly, "Mom, I.. I.. I'm gay. I.. I. l..like boys.", there he said it.
"Oh, Sammy. My little Sammy. I already knew. Michael brought it to my attention when you were just hitting puberty." Lucy chuckled.
Sam sat there stunned. His brother and mother knew before he did?! His brother brought to mom's attention?! The sobs erupted from his chest. A weight was gone from him that he did not even know that he had on him. The absolute relief made him weep. Lucy enveloped her boy in her arms. Her baby needed her comfort. A kiss on his head Lucy rocked her baby.
(Max)
Max breathed deeply and forced himself up to full height. Just what he needed now, insubordinance. He was not going to stand for it. He made to move forward to find that he couldn't. He looked at his shiny loafers and saw that he was standing in a circle. Where was Thorn?
"Thorn is indisposed at the moment so you will not be getting any help." David suddenly said.
"Well, boy, where's the little witch? Surely, you're not trying to take me in all by yourself?" Max snarked, suddenly getting weaker.
"She's here. Suddenly getting weaker, Max?" David gloated, his fangs glinting.
Max suddenly knew what was happening. They were trying to drain him. They wouldn't be that stupid right?
"Kill me, you kill yourselves." Max said darkly.
"That would be true otherwise. But that's not exactly why you're weak." a feminine voice said.
Max turned around to the voice. A beautiful black girl sauntered into the room. Max could smell animal on her. She was the animal. She had to be Katarina Springs. Katarina stood next to David and Max watched her face transform. Her eyes glowed and become slitted like a cat. Her teeth also became cat like. She was a werecat. He had never encountered one so he believed them to be tall tales.
"Just like the werewolf female, I am not bound by the curse like the males are. And like the werewolf, my venom is deadly to vampires. But in small doses can be used to weaken a vampire. Almost like a tranquilizer. But my bite will kill you." she said matter-of-factly.
"You'll still kill them as well." Max laughed.
"No. She won't." a voice he hadn't heard in a few hundred years spoke.
"Monique." Max snarled.
Monique came in holding Athena's hand. In Athena's other hand was an open grimoire. Athena's lips were moving silently. The circle around Max began to glow white.
"My daughter will finally rest in peace." Monique said.
Madame Moniques body began to glow brightly. The air filled with whispering voices, in English, French, and different dialects of African. The air also became heavy with magic. Old, ancient, potent magic. Madame Monique's body evaporated into magic and entered Athena. Max felt the second all of his ties to his "children" died. David's face became peaceful. Max became incensed. He threw himself towards Athena. but he never made it. Red hot daggers tore into his shoulder. The feel of cold ice entered his veins but then spread like molten lava throughout his body. A scream escaped his lips. It was long and hard, tearing his throat raw. He felt his body disintegrating then suddenly he felt himself implode. Then nothing.
Max was gone. He was finally gone. The Lost Boys were finally free. Star was finally free. And little Laddie could finally find his family again. It was all finally over.
Epilogue
It had been ten years since the death of Max. Everything had turned out for the better. Madame Monique had planned everything out after her death. She had left Athena her shop and home. She had even magicked a deed for Max's shops and home. She had them made out to be left to Lucy. Hell, she even found a way to fake Max's death and her own. She covered all the bases. She even left a leaflet for Athena to research about a daylight cure for nightwalkers. And Athena was successful with Kitty's help. When The Lost Boys walked into the comic store in the daylight Edgar and Alan almost shit themselves. It was quite funny for everyone to see.
Grandpa had finally made a commitment to his longtime girlfriend, The Widow Johnson, whom became Mrs. Hughes. He moved into her home leaving his to Lucinda and Mike. Then about five years after Max's death Grandpa and Olympia passed away in a car accident. Mike and Star were left her home.
Max's death truly benefitted them all. Lucy couldn't keep up with both video stores so she and Sam ran the one in Santa Carla. While Mike and Star ran the one in Luna Bay. Mike and Star married after Mike graduated high school and Star got her GED and both went to business school. Sam and Alan ended up getting together. The Frog brothers calmed down from their antics. Edgar became a surf board shaper for big time surfers and met a beautiful werewolf, Zoey. She was a friend of Kitty's.
And speaking of Kitty. She and Maria ended up getting together and opened a coffee shop. They also adopted Laddie. They searched and searched for his parents. It did not turn out well. Laddie's father died from an overdose and Laddie's mother killed herself after her husband passed. Kitty did find and adopt Laddie's baby sister. His mother had been pregnant when Laddie went missing. After the death of their parents little Ava was put into foster care. It was a long road but Kitty and Maria got custody of the children and adopted them.
Lucy did eventually find herself a good man. He was a doctor and had fallen hard for Lucy when he met her at Kitty and Maria's coffee shop. They dated for a year before he proposed on Christmas and they married the following year at Christmas as well. It was a beautiful affair. The vampire secret was eventually shared with them both. It took a little time to accept but they did.
Lucinda made the transition to vampire but Athena did not. With all the magic she had amassed, she stopped aging. She did not need the immortality of vampirism. She created daylight jewelry. Monique had a line of witches that settled in Virginia. The Bennett witches were very powerful and they showed Athena everything she needed to know about vampires.
With their newfound daylight time the boys went looking for their families' graves. Marko's was first since his family died in Santa Carla and their bodies were returned to Sacramento. They travelled around letting them say good bye. Only Dwayne did not get to say good bye. The government did not care about natives and had no problem leaving their corpses to the elements or tossing into mass unmarked graves. But he did find his peace.
They all did. They all found their happiness and peace.
AN- That is the end.
