A/N: Hello there. So, for the past week and some odd days, I've been burnt severely. Sleep has been impossible. And I've cried way too much. It gave me an idea for a story because why wouldn't it? Here we go. Enjoy.

OOOOOOOOOO

David heard crying in Calli's house as he walked up the front sidewalk. His eyes narrowed. Whoever had made her cry, they wouldn't see the light of another day. He'd see to it.

The leader of the Lost Boys put his hand in his pocket and withdrew the spare key that he had had made for the house. But when he fit it in and turned the lock, the lock turned back. David put a hand on the knob and turned it, but it wouldn't budge.

"Calli," David said, his voice low. "Calli, let me in."

"N-n-no!" Calli cried and he heard her slump against the door. "Go away! I don't want company tonight."

David rolled his eyes and backed up a step, silently counting.

"I can hear you breathing out there!" Calli called through the door.

"Calli, vampires don't breathe," he reminded her.

"David, just go away."

The Lost Boy took flight, landing on the opposite side of the house. He undid the back door and slipped inside, making sure to close the door behind him.

His eyes scanned the house as he moved through it. All the curtains were drawn. The air was on high. Something wasn't right.

"Calli," he called out, heading for the front door.

Calli had her back to him and he drew up short. She was topless, but that wasn't what stopped him. Her skin was red, blistered, and angry looking. He could see the vague outline of where her bathing suit must have protected her skin, but everywhere else was burnt. David wondered how bad her front was.

"You shouldn't have come in here," Calli whispered, her voice shaky. "I'm not going to be much fun." She turned to look at him with her arms wrapped around her chest. "I can't even hug you right now." She looked down at her feet. "Everything hurts."

David felt his heart crack. There was even a blister on the tip of her nose that looked ready to burst. "How long were you in the sun?" he asked.

"Over two hours," Calli mumbled, shaking her head. "Not enough sunscreen. And yay, my meds make me more sunburn prone." She moved further into the house, a bright red beacon in the near dark. "I just wanted to have fun with my coworker."

David moved in front of her. "Where do you think you're going?"

"To the living room," Calli said, gesturing with her eyes.

"Wrong. You're going to strip out of your clothes and sit in the shower," David ordered, blue eyes flashing.

Calli's bottom lip trembled as she tried to straighten her spine. "If I don't?"

David put a hand on her shoulder and she cried out. "Then the pain will never stop."

Calli glared at him wetly and moved past him, heading upstairs. David followed her and watched as she stripped out of her clothes, moving to sit in the bottom of her shower. She wrapped her arms around her knees and looked up at him with painfilled eyes.

"What now, Mr. Bossy?" she asked.

David grabbed a towel from the rack and draped it around her, earning a hiss. His blue eyes softened as he looked at her, tracing his fingers along her sunburnt cheek. "This is going to hurt like Hell, but the heat has to come out of your skin, Calli."

Calli looked at him with wide eyes and then looked at the far wall. David turned on the hot and cold and made the water lukewarm. He closed his eyes for a moment as he turned the spray nozzle of the shower on and heard Calli scream in pain.

That's the sound I never wanted to hear…her screaming in pain…I'll never be able to get it out of my head now…Damn the sun for hurting her…

Calli sat whimpering under the spray of the shower, rocking slightly. David sat by the shower and tried to talk to her, but she couldn't put words together. Just hisses of pain and random sobs. David reached into the shower after half an hour and felt under the towel on her back.

"You're less warm," he commented, turning the water off. "How do you feel?"

The question, he realized too late, was a stupid one. She wouldn't be feeling fine and dandy. No, she was in fucking pain! Because of that damn orb in the sky and the meds that those mother fucking doctors gave her without explaining that she could get burnt. Hell, he hadn't known. None of the Boys had. They hadn't checked her bottles and now, she was suffering.

Calli offered him a wry smile. "I feel like a vampire that got exposed to the sun."

David tried to smile back, but he couldn't. He helped her to her feet and patted her dry. She whimpered again, but he had to force himself to ignore it.

"No sleeping in clothes for a while," David told her, guiding her carefully from the bathroom. "And no cotton. That material will trap in heat and we sure as Hell don't want that back." His eyes scanned the room. "You got any aloe?"

Calli nodded and pointed towards a bag on the floor. "I could only reach my chest and shoulders to put it on. It burns like a bitch, David."

David picked up the bottle and looked it over. "It's going to. You've fried your nerves." The Lost Boy turned and looked her in the eye. "You're going to be okay, though."

The Goth looked at him with sad eyes that broke his heart. She turned her back on him and took a deep breath. David uncapped the bottle of aloe and squeezed some one his hand before very carefully rubbing it over her back.

Calli's body jerked and she let out a loud cry of pain. David made shushing noises and kept applying the aloe. Calli shook her head and let out strings of curses that he'd never get out of her again.

"I know, I know," David said, capping the bottle. "It hurts, Princess. I know. Just give it a moment."

"I want it off," Calli cried, shaking her head and twitching. "I want it off!"

"There's nothing to take off now," David said patiently. He turned her around to face him. "You're going to have to power through this because as nasty as your burns are, you're going to need that stuff put on you a minimum of two times a day."

Calli paled under the burns. "Two times a day?"

"Two times a day," David repeated, trying not to stare at the blister on her nose. "And you've got to promise me that you'll keep yourself hydrated. Lots and lots of water and Gatorade. No milk or dairy products. Plenty of protein to help rebuild the healthy dermis."

Calli stared at him in wonder. "How do you know so much about treating sunburns?"

David shrugged and guided her towards her bed. "You're not the first one to be badly burned by the sun in my life. And haven't you realized that sometimes I just know things?"

He smirked as she rolled her eyes. The vampire eased the Goth onto her stomach on the bed and draped her blankets over her, just below the line of sunburn. Calli sighed and twitched.

"I feel like all my nerves are firing at once," Calli complained, looking at him with one eye as he stood next to the bed.

"That's because they are, and they are damaged," David told her. He traced his fingers over her lips and watched her wince. "These are even burnt. Such a shame."

"You're only complaining because this means you can't kiss or mess around with me," Calli said, giving him a look. "Poor little David, not getting his cuddles and screws."

David's eyes blazed. "No, but I do get to touch you." He shed his jackets and climbed on the bed. "Because I'm not going anywhere until you're fully healed from this burn."

"David!" Calli protested, lifting her head from her pillows to look at him. "You're going to burn if you don't go back to the cave!"

"Nah," David said, shaking his head as he helped himself to Calli's laptop. "You have the curtains all closed plus the mini blinds. No sun will come in here." He smirked. "It's like you wanted me to come and stay with you, little Lost Girl."

Calli glared at him for a moment and then lowered her head back down to her pillow. "You think too highly of yourself, asshole."

"So sue me."

Calli yawned. "Tired now. Sue you later."

David glanced over at her after a few moments and saw that she'd fallen asleep. He could see the pain that she was feeling, even in her sleep. The vampire sat up on the bed and pulled his shirt off. Very carefully, he pulled Calli into his arms and she let out a small sound, but didn't wake up. The chill of his skin would soothe her, he knew, it would just be uncomfortable for a moment or two.

Now I know why the change has to happen soon…no more risks of roasting in the sun when you're a creature that sleeps during the daylight hours…He kissed the top of her head and saw the burns extended into her hairline. Sleep well, my crispy Lost Girl. You're healing is going to be a major bitch.

OOOOOOOOO
