Chapter 3

Roxy's POV

After they finished eating and the dishes were in the sink, Roxanne motioned to Dwayne to follow her into the cottage's second bedroom. Curious the others came with and stared in awe at the rows of knives surrounding six swords and two large battle axes. Walking over to the table in the room, she picked up a small boot knife as she called Laddie over to her. "Keep this with you always Laddie." She said before showing him how to hide it. Looking at Star, she smiled as she walked over to a cupboard and pulled out a box. "Come here Star." She said as she opened the box to reveal a small brooch. Pushing a small gem caused a one inch blade to pop out of the brooch. "You also need something to protect yourself." She said as she handed over the brooch after sheathing the blade.

As Star took the brooch, Roxy smirked over at Dwayne who was eyeing a hunting knife with Native American designs on it and a deer horn handle. "You can have it since I can tell it calls to you. Treat it well and it will serve you well." She said softly before pulling out her pipe. Putting the herbal mix in the small bowl, she lite it with a match before taking a deep inhale. Paul was suddenly at her side gazing at her pipe with interest. "It's an herbal mix to help me calm my temper so I don't beat the shit out of people. It's more calming that weed for me and without the high." She explained to him.

Roxanne chuckled as she noticed David conceal a knife in his left boot before nodding at her. She could always make more besides something told her that she would be seeing a lot more of these people. The curly blonde named Marko kept drawing her gaze as she watched him admire the different knives before settling his eyes on a six inch bowie knife. Paul had already taken a folding pocket knife that he placed in his right pocket before he had come to see her smoking pipe.

Blowing out smoke, Roxy grinned as she got an idea that would lead to some fun for her. Passing her pipe to Paul who asked for a try, she walked over to the wall and grabbed a knife before looking at Dwayne. "Care to fight me" she asked the taller male. He smirked down at her before nodding before they headed outside with the others following behind them. Soon they stood facing each other in the back yard under the moonlight as the others watched from a distance. "First one to third blood wins" she announced to which Dwayne nodded.

Soon they began to circle each other watching and gaging each other before Dwayne made a lunge forward while swiping towards Roxy's left side. Spinning away, Roxy tried to get behind Dwayne to put distance only to block a swing as he used his longer reach to swipe at her as she passed. Soon they lost themselves in the act of attacking and dodging as they felt the trill race through their bodies as they moved.

Marko's POV

His mate was beautiful as she attacked and dodged Dwayne who was only using human strength and speed. He could see she was having the time of her life as she and Dwayne where tried two for two. He wanted her to win but knowing his brother, Dwayne would win and soon because he could see his mate starting to tire. She looked so beautiful covered in sweat, dirt and a bit of blood so much so that he had to resist the urge to pounce on her. His brothers and he gave a cheer when Dwayne scored the last wound on Roxy's left shoulder. Smiling, she shook hands with Dwayne before walking over to them to which he gave her a towel that he had grabbed. "Thank you" she softly before she wiped her face off.

Heading back inside the first aid kit was retrieved and the wounds on her and Dwayne where tended to which Marko bandaged his mate up. Marko put away the first aid kit as an excuse to lick her blood off his gloves which made his moan faintly at his mate's sweet tasting blood. He returned to the living room and sat down on the couch next to Roxy to watch the movie that had been put into the VCR by Laddie. He had found a movie that he had wanted to see and Roxy didn't mind letting him watch it.

Half way through the movie, Marko found his little mate sleeping with her head on his shoulder. Brushing her hair from her face, he caressed her cheek before standing up and picking her up bridal style. Following her lovely scent, he found her bedroom and placed her on the bed before tucking her in. Walking into the kitchen, he wrote a note as the others began to rise from their seats to head out. Laddie saw him writing the note and he wanted to add a thank you to it so he wrote on the bottom.

David led the way outside before they mounted their bikes and took off into the night back towards their home. Marko's thoughts where on Roxy and how he couldn't wait to see her again to woe her. Arriving at the cave, they all sat down while Star put Laddie to bed for they had to answer her questions.

Star's POV

Star finished putting Laddie to sleep before she walked over to sit on the fountain. "How do you tell that someone is your mate?" she asked. David blew out smoke before speaking. "Scent, it draws your attention and you can't get it out of your head. Their blood faintly calls to you but at the same time you don't feel the need to feed when around them." Star thought over his words before she asked something. "Will they feel the pull if they become a vampire even a half? And what happens if they reject you? " she asked. She now knew that the young man from the concert was her mate. She had to know more about mates because it could factor in if she finally made a kill and became a full vampire.

Marko actually flinched at the mention of rejection before he calmed down. David spoke as he flicked his used cig into a burn barrel. "They will feel the mating pull even as a human only to a small degree but if they become a half or full vampire than they will truly feel the pull. Rejection would only happen if they are still human and it would make you more determined to win them over. Vampires are pack creatures and we can't resist the call to be one with our mates when we find them. Why all the questions?" he asked as he eyed Star. Star nervously ran her fingers through her curls before speaking.

"I think I found my mate in that young man who had followed me from the concert to the bikes." She said softly. Paul laughed before coming over to hug Star as he picked her up and spun her around. "Way to go girl. You found your mate." He said as he set her on her feet. David raised an eyebrow before speaking. "Interesting but you do realize that he will have to change right? Marko's mate will have to change as well because I know if I found my mate I would want forever with them." He said.

Star nodded before speaking. "Tomorrow I will feed if you promise to not trick my mate into turning." She said softly. David smirked before he spoke. "Got it Star but You will feed and we will not trick him at all. Now lets head to bed for tomorrow will be busy." He said before he headed into the back with the boys following him as Star headed to her bed.
