![]() Author has written 1 story for Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. Real Name: Torrey Age: "When 800 years old you reach, look so good you will not." Yeah, got a long way to go to get there. Probably won't make it either, but I'll die trying! Gender: Irrelevant, "Luminous Beings are we, not this crude matter..." "Judge me by my size do you? As well you should not. For the Force is my ally, and a powerful ally it is..." - Master Yoda, Star Wars Religion: Jediism. I am actually Ordained "Oracle, Master Knight of the Jedi Order" and yes, I actually do carry a lightsaber (it doesn't do anything, not even a laser pointer, but I do carry it) with me every day, everywhere I go. Politics: Less government is better than more, none of them are perfect, they do the best they can and deserve support for doing it, along with questions as to why they do the things they do regardless if those things are right or wrong. I believe in the separation of church and state, and am constantly annoyed that they constantly try to legislate morality, but recognize the symptom as being caused by a complete lack of the common man being willing to do their Civic Duty. Capitalism is better than Socialism, at least until we invent the replicator and solve free energy to power it. If you think you know better about how other people should live their lives and you want to pass laws about it to make sure that they do things your way, you're what's wrong with this world, so kindly go peddle your cancerous political ideology elsewhere. You leave me alone, and I'll return the favor. Astrological Signs: Double Aries with Luna ascendant, Fire Dragon Totem: Dragon Affinities: Dragons, Saturn, Luna, Fire Key Words: I AM. Favorite Colors: Dark Red & Dark Green. Favorite Movies: Princess Bride, Star Wars, Pitch Black, Sol Bianca, Armitage, Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell 2, Serenity, Star Trek (but not the reboot),The Last Starfighter, They Live, The Neverending Story, Tombstone, Back to the Future Trilogy Favorite TV Series: Andromeda, Star Trek TOS, TNG, DS9, Babylon 5, Stargate SG1 & Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica (I like both, but do prefer the original), Mythbusters, Good Eats, Top Gear, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Grand Tour, Farscape, Family Ties, Firefly, The Expanse, Westworld (Season 1), The Orville Favorite Anime: Ranma 1/2, Tenchi Muyo, Ah! My Goddess, MACROSS (all of them), Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Project A-Ko, Patlabor, Serial Experiments Lain Favorite Video Games: KOTOR, KOTOR II, Neverwinter Nights, Neverwinter Nights II, D&D Online, Final Fantasy Series (except X-2 and the MMOs), Dungeon Siege I & II, Command & Conquer series, Star Trek Online, Star Wars The Old Republic. Favorite Board Games: Munchkin, Dominion, Flux, Apples to Apples is pretty good too, but it's, imo, more of a party game, like Charades. Favorite Table-Top or Pen & Paper & Dice Games: D&D 2e, D&D 3.5e, Star Wars d20 Revised, Serenity, Rifts, Well, about the only thing I won't play is Horror. And Paranoia. Bad for my mental state Paranoia is... I will also say that I purchased D&D 4th ed, and after reading through the books, returned them to the store. If I want to play a Video Game, I'll use a computer. 5e is better than I expected it to be, but I'm still an old school gamer, and it's still got too much video game in it. Favorite Books: Ok, so maybe it's more like Favorite Authors, Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, William Gibson, David Weber, Pets: All my kitties are gone now. :( 04-28-2015 Wow, four years since I last updated. Hadn't realized that it's been so long. I've lost two kitties due to illness, and it looks like the third might be joining them soon (Chaos). I've added a couple TV shows, but for the most part, I've stopped watching TV because I've decided that Hollywood pretty much sucks lately, or maybe I'm just less willing to put up with their peddling fecal matter and passing it off as 24k gold. I mean, who really cares that the writing was done by a 4 year old, it's got a bunch of action movie stars in it and more explosions per minute than any previous film. Who cares that it doesn't make sense, that it has no internal consistency, (sigh) anyway, you don't really need me to shred them, go look the latest Hollywood box office hits up on rotten tomatoes, or similar sites. They usually do a good job of ripping movies into itty bitty pieces. But who cares, so long as they make money, right? I guess I'm just getting grumpy in my middle ages. The last movie I saw that didn't totally suck, had an actual PLOT, developed characters, understood what “Internal Consistency” actually means, was likely The Hobbit. I liked the latest Riddick film, but it didn't really develop his character any further, just really go over stuff we already knew about him. It was more about the bounty hunters, than Riddick. For gaming, I pretty much play Star Trek and Star Wars online, and at the moment, I've got two dice groups. One I'm playing in, and the other I'm running. Both are Rifts at the moment. For a while, we were playing Serenity, but they got bored and asked for more Rifts, so we're playing Rifts... :) Five more years since the last update? Damn... I need to do this stuff more often. Working on Worthless again, been doing so for about a year now, and I'm almost ready to release the chapter. It's going to be a big one, so far it's 14,600 words, and essentially just covers "School Hard." Given my GLACIAL writing pace, and Still not watching "TV" or most movies either, and I'm more convinced than ever that Hollywood sucks. As if the terrible writing wasn't bad enough, now they're demanding that everyone endorse their left/right tribalism, and do so on their side. One other thing I'd like to say is about fear. I could quote Yoda, yet again, about fear leading to hate and violence, and we get enough evidence of that on the nightly news these days, but instead I'd like to focus on how anyone, even some talking head on a news desk, constantly showing you things to be afraid of, telling you that you should be afraid of something, they are conditioning you to live in fear. Why? So that they can control your actions. Fear is the mind killer. When you're afraid, you're very easy to control since those who are afraid have a very limited subset of actions that they can choose from: Fight, Flight, Scream for Help. The best cure for being told to live in fear is to educate yourself about the thing you're being conditioned to fear. If you're being conditioned to fear dogs, learn about dogs, learn the breeds, find out about the behaviors of those breeds and how they differ between breeds, even similar looking breeds, especially, learn about how to train dogs, the methods and techniques used. Armed with all of that newfound knowledge, you may even find yourself owning a dog rather than living in fear of them. The same thing applies to anything else someone is attempting to condition you to fear, be it "Republicans," "The Alt-Right" (which are synonymous these days according to the news), "Blacks," "Hispanics," "White Supremacists," "Democrats," or any other label bandied about, the solution is the same, choose to allow the fearmonger to control your actions, or educate yourself on whatever it is you're being told to fear. Understanding an ideology and agreeing with that ideology are two very different things, and the more you know about something, the less you're capable of fearing it. You will retain a healthy respect for the actual dangers of a thing, but you'll lack the mind-killing fear of that thing. Having retained the capacity to think clearly, you have all the options in the world on how to handle a given situation, far more options than Fight, Flight, Scream anyway. Oh, and anyone implying that there are only two sides? Yeah, they're nearly always wrong. Even coins have more than two sides. (Five by my count...) Sadly, I don't have any dice groups at the moment. Oh well, that's just something else I'll have to work on changing. Oceans Rise, Cities Fall, Life goes on. Next profile update: 2025? |
