A/N: I have been feeling the blues, but I can't let that hold me back from writing. So I came up with a little story. Just a one shot. Like all the others. I find it peaceful doing this type of thing. Please enjoy.
OOOOOOOOOO
David stood at the window, looking out at the world with his ice blue eyes. He'd done it. The night before, he had done the thing he had promised to do when the woman he loved had gone by another name.
His gaze turned back into the room and landed on the bed. Calli was curled on her side, looking more at peace now that the moonlight fell on her. He could only imagine how uncomfortable she had been with the sunlight peeking through her curtains and landing upon her. Even the human of her had always been bothered by the touch of sunlight. Now…
She's one of us…almost, David thought, taking a drag on his cigarette. All she needs to do is wakeup and feed. Then she's one of us, forever. And I will never lose her to the hands of Time.
David moved over to the side of the bed and listened to Calli's heartbeat. It was slower, softer. He'd miss that part of her. The warmth of her skin was going to be gone, but at least she wouldn't die. There were plenty of other reasons to love her besides that warmth. Just her being her would be enough.
Calli…
The girl remained silent, still. David reached down and brushed a stray tendril of hair off her face. She sighed in her sleep and gripped the blankets a little tighter.
Calli…
"You know if you want to wake the princess, you have to kiss her," Calli muttered in her sleep. "That's how all the stories go."
David chuckled. "So you're a princess now?"
Calli didn't answer. She snuggled farther into her pillows and took a shallow breath.
The Lost Boy sat on the edge of the bed and caressed her cheek lightly. He turned her face towards him and pressed his lips to hers in a tender kiss. Calli responded almost immediately, eagerly.
David's eyes smoldered when he pulled back and looked at her. Calli's green eyes were like gemstones set in her pale face. They had even more depth to them than he remembered and David just wanted to keep looking into them. They were almost hypnotic, even to a vampire as old and skilled as he.
She's going to be dangerous when she's completed the change. He smirked. Good. She'll be able to take care of herself when she needs to.
"Hi," Calli said, smiling up at him. "And by the way, I am your princess…you said so once upon a time. So ha! No take backs."
David rolled his eyes. "How do you feel?"
"Am I supposed to feel different? Because what I'm feeling is tired and…I think hungry?" She made a face. "Yeah, that's definitely hungry." Her eyes turned towards the ceiling. "Wow, I haven't known what hungry feels like since moving here and meeting you Boys. You lot have always made sure my belly was full and my fridge stocked."
"And we plan on keeping it that way," David told her. "You're going to feed regularly and then you will never know the pains of a hungry belly again." He took a drag on his cigarette. "But you must feed. And that entails killing."
Calli waved her hand. "I know what it entails, David. You've been telling me about what I've got to do since we started seriously dating. Relax. I can handle this."
"Really?"
"Yeah." Calli sat up and threw her legs over the side of the bed, rising to her feet. "Eat, kill, dispose." She stretched her arms out. "I get what I deserve and now I'm going to rule the night." She laughed. "It's my turn to show you how good of a vampire I can be."
David listened to her and heard no hesitation in her voice. She was confident for the first time in weeks. He doubted there would be any holding her back at this point.
The leader of the Lost Boys stood up and held his hand out. "Then let's go."
Calli took his hand and let him guide her from her room to the stairs and out of the house. The wind whipped around them as they headed for his motorcycle and got on. The trip to prime feeding grounds took but minutes. Calli's new family waited at the entrance, eager for the hunt.
"Choose," David ordered, sending the command over his shoulder.
Calli's green eyes scanned their surroundings and David thought for a moment that he sensed uneasiness from the girl. But she quickly recovered and stared at something to their right. David and the other Boys followed her line of sight to a group of boys. Bullies, by the look of them. People Calli would have avoided, but drawn to herself if she had been alone.
"Them," Calli said softly.
David caught the scent of the group and memorized it, sharing it with the Boys and his girl. They would need it later. Calli's fingers curled in his jacket's shoulders and she let out a little whine.
"Now?" she begged.
David chuckled and smoothed his hand over her thigh. "Patience, little one. You're going to become one of us tonight. And you'll get to feed to your heart's content."
Calli calmed down quicker than he thought she would and David planted a little seed of a command into the minds of the bullies that Calli had chosen. He revved his engine and took off into the night, heading down the beach with his Boys behind him. Calli let out a little cry of delight and held on tight.
OOOOOOOOO
David tossed his meal down and licked his lips, feeling those annoying pains of hunger slip away as the blood satiated him. The other Boys were celebrating a meal well earned, but his attention was not on them. It was on the girl that was feeding on the blood of a human that hadn't experienced much of a life and now, never would.
Her golden eyes turned onto him as she dropped the body and he saw that despite the mess she had made of the boy's neck, her face was relatively blood free. Just a little trickled down the corner of her lips.
David cupped her chin with his hand and smoothed his thumb over her lips. Her features smoothed out and became her familiar human appearance. Her eyes were bright, dangerous as she looked at him. He watched as the last bits of her humanity faded, the last beat of her heart fade away. And he watched as she accepted herself.
"I'm one of you," Calli whispered, her eyes almost glowing. "Literally one of you. Not just pretend-my-meds-make-me-one-of-you…legitimately one of you."
David smirked. "Yes, you are." He leaned his face down to her level. "And I can finally do whatever I want with you without holding back."
He could sense her excitement at his words. There was so much that she wanted to learn, things she had been afraid to try when she was human. And he was more than willing to help guide her along the way. It was just a matter of when and where and what to try first.
"Boys," David said, sliding an arm around Calli's shoulders. "I think a celebration is in order. We've got our first Lost Girl with us and I say we show her some of the fun she's been missing."
The Boys shouted in excitement and ran around the two of them. Calli laughed and leaned into David.
Finally, it's our turn to rule…
OOOOOOOOOOO
