Laddie's friend for the night

A young girl of ten walked along the broad walk behind her older sister as they headed towards the Big Dipper ride. Her name was Ruth and she had long straight red hair with gray eyes at a height of only three feet two inches tall. Her older sister was named Mary and she had lovely green eyes with shining long blonde hair and a beautiful face that always drew the guys to her. Mary hated watching her baby sister but her parents had luckily paid her this time to watch her sister. Now she needed to find some people to hang out with while hoping her sister behaved. Otherwise she would smack the little pest hard like she did every time that she got mad at Ruth for something. Ruth just quietly walked behind her sister since she knew the older girl was in a mood again.

Arriving at the Big Dipper ride, Mary was soon flirting with some guys who looked like surfers as they waited in the line. Ruth knew her night was going to end badly as the guys spotted her standing behind her sister. "Ditch the kid and come have a good time with us, Babe." A surfer with a black mohawk told her older sister. Mary turned and smirked down at her as she grabbed Ruth by the shirt. "Brat, you are going to walk around and do rides without me. If you dare to even think of telling mom and dad that I left you alone, I will kill you. Understand?" she growled into Ruth's ear. Ruth nodded quickly and was just glad to not be smacked by her sister as she set back on her feet. Her gray eyes watched her sister walk off with the group of five guys down the board walk to the beach.

Looking at the line before her, Ruth sighed sadly as she knew that she wouldn't be allowed to ride alone. Leaving the line, she gazed around looking for a ride that she could ride and still have some fun. Suddenly, she was knocked off her feet and into another person as someone shoved past her. Sitting up slowly, she rubbed her head as she tried to stop seeing faint stars from bonking her head off something. A hand came into her line of sight leading her to see that she had landed on a boy who was just a year older than her.

Her gray eyes locked with his brown eyes as she blushed faintly realizing that she was sitting on top of him. "I am so sorry." She said as she scrambled to her feet. Holding out her hand, she helped pull the brown haired boy to his feet as she spoke her name. "I am Ruth and again sorry about that." She said softly as she smiled at him. The boy smiled back before he spoke. "I am Laddie." Ruth smiled more as she now knew the name of the boy who was wearing an interesting old marching band jacket. "Aw are you here alone too?" she asked. She wanted to ride the rides and have fun with this boy for some reason. Shaking his head, Laddie spoke. "No, I am here with my brothers and Star. My brothers are getting food, I am to stay near their bikes." He said.

A sad sigh left Ruth's lips as she realized that he wouldn't be able to join her. "Oh I was hoping you could ride the rides with me." She said softly. Laddie looked at her in surprise before a voice sounded behind him. "Go ahead Laddie but be back in two hours." Said an older male voice causing the kids to turn. Standing behind Laddie was four males, three blondes and a burnet male, and it was a male with a mullet smoking who had spoken. Laddie smiled before he took Ruth's hand and ran off into the crowd pulling her along. "Thank you David." He shouted over his shoulder. Ruth laughed as she began to run with Laddie towards the nearby rides.

Soon they were happily standing in line for the Tilt-a-Whirl and talking about their favorite things as they talked while waiting. After a few minutes, they had their turn on the ride and were screaming with laughter as they spun as fast as they could. Spinning and spinning for several minutes, lead to them walking wobbly as they exited the ride. "That was so much fun." Ruth said as she walked beside Laddie. She was having more fun with this boy than she thought she would have tonight since her sister was to watch her. Taking Laddie's hand, she was soon leading him through the crowds to another ride that they could ride together.

Time flew as they were having fun riding the rides when Ruth slide to a stop and paled. Storming towards them was her older sister, Mary and she looked pissed. "Laddie, thank you for being my friend tonight. You best go now." She said as she let his hand go. Walking towards her sister, Ruth hurried because she didn't want her sister to see Laddie. Ruth tried not to cry out as a harsh smack impacted her face when she meets her sister. Mary began to yell and curse at Ruth as she harshly grabbed the smaller girl by her arm to drag her away. Ruth looked back and waved bye to Laddie before she disappeared into the crowd with her sister.

Laddie's POV

Laddie's brown eyes watched his friend be dragged off by her older sibling with slight worry. He had seen the fear in Ruth's eyes when she had spotted her sister and he was worried that he would be hurt. Hurrying to his brothers, he grabbed Dwayne's hand and began to tug him. "Come on, we have to hurry." He said as he tried to pull the older teen. The other three lost boys looked at each other before David signaled for them to follow. Laddie dragged them towards the beach where he had seen the sisters head towards. He only hoped that he was quick enough to help Ruth.

Ruth's POV

Ruth tried to keep up as she dragged behind her sister towards the beach. Her heart was beating in fear as they came to an isolated bonfire where the five guys waited. One was twirling a knife in his hand by its hilt and smirked when he saw her. "So you found the brat, good. Now lets play." He aid cruelly as he advanced towards Ruth. Grabbing the small girl, he held the knife to her right arm before beginning to cut into it near the elbow. "Your sister here has given us permission to kill you little girl. So be ready for a night of pain." He said darkly. Ruth was crying and trying to yank her arm free but she couldn't break his grip. Mary smirked as she moved to gag her sister as another surfer came over with a burning stick.

Once Ruth was gagged, the surfer placed the burning log on her left arm and laughed as he watched her flesh blister and then soon burn from the heat of the stick. Removing the stick harshly, pulled off pieces of burned flesh as he moved to relite the stick to burn her again. The knife wielding surfer removed a good piece of flesh from her right arm before beginning to work on the tendons in the arm. Ruth could only cry and scream into her gag as they hurt here all because her older sister hated her and wanted her dead.

The Lost Boys with Laddie's POV

Following the tracks in the sand, they stopped when the scent of blood and burnt flesh meet their noses. "Laddie, wait back here until we give the all clear." David ordered before he and the others moved closer to the bonfire ahead. The sight that greeted them made them grimace because even when they feed off kids they never tortured them like the Surf Nazis group was doing to the little girl. One eye had been gouged out by what looked like fingers and one male was getting ready to rape the little girl. David gave the signal to attack the group and soon blood was flying as screams ripped through the night. Dwayne dropped beside the girl and carefully removed her gag only to curse as he noticed her throat had been slit. "Laddie…." She gurgled out. Dwayne looked over his shoulder to see Laddie coming towards them at a run. "Ruth" the boy cried as he dropped beside her and Dwayne. "Tha…nk…you…for….being…my…..frie…nd." Ruth managed to gurl out of her mouth before her heart finally stopped. Dwayne closed her one eye before he stood with her body in his arms. "Laddie lets go bury your friend." He told the crying boy. He knew Laddie was shy and didn't have many friends because of them and being half vampire but he knew this girl had been special for the short time the two had.

Half an hour later, they had buried the little girl under a tree near Hudson's Bluff so Laddie could visit his friend's resting space. Two days later, a missing person flyer when up for a Mary and Ruth Marshal who had disappeared from the board walk after a sister night out. Laddie wore around his neck a small crystal necklace that had been Ruth's ever since the night he lost his friend.
