It wasn't the first time someone had come looking for him, but this woman didn't seem like the others. She'd clearly seen things that many would never see in thousands of lifetimes. Her smile was part of a poker face, a mask. He could tell from one glance that her eyes didn't even reflect the truth, just the coldness of someone who's known death. Someone familiar with killing.

They stared at each other until the people around them began to leave. Eyes still locked as the cart owner who hit Chopper repeatedly apologized until he decided to leave. The problem at the moment was not the man, but the girls whispering at the sight of his well-formed torso through the opening at the front of his tunic. She almost wished he'd changed into a shirt.

They had won her back, she was home now. Things should have been alright, but they weren't. The evidence of their failure taunted him with every wince she made and every mark he watched heal on her body. They had won the fight, but the evidence of their failure was plain to see. Zoro walked into the classroom, snatching a seat at the front, earning curious looks as everyone followed him in. He was always the last one in, if he even turned up at all.
