Episode 4 - Strange Birthday

Somewhere in the Known and Unknown Multiverse, in a certain suburban household in America, a man was checking his cellphone while sporting a heavy sigh of exasperation on his face.

"Haah, you gotta be kidding me. Where is this guy?"

As soon as he said that in an exasperated tone, a Sling Ring begins to be opened which reveals two persons who are now exiting from the dimensional gateway.

One of them was a man who appeared to be in his mid-thirties who wears a blue robe and red special cape from his back that is known as the Cloak of Levitation, along with a special mystical artifact that is worn around his neck that is known as the Eye of Agamotto.

This is Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange M.D. – Ph.D.

A Member of the 12 Core of the Multiverse League of Extraordinary Gentleman and Ladies.

Accompanied with him is a young woman who is small in stature and a petite build. She has thigh length, silver hair, and large green eyes. She is seen wearing a Christian white nun's habit with gold highlights, with strong enchanted safety pins holding it together, which is known as the Walking Church. It is an accurate replica of the Holy Shroud of Turin in the native universe that she comes from and offers her the ultimate protection from most forms of attacks.

This is Index Librorum Prohibitorum.

As soon as Dr. Strange and Index came out from the dimensional gateway, Dr. Strange begins to introduce himself and his apprentice to the man in question.

"Hi, I'm Dr. Stephen Strange – Master of the Mystic Arts and this is my apprentice and student, Index Librorum Prohibitorum."

As Dr. Strange begins to introduce Index by indicating his left hand to her, Index begins to slight bow and make a smile, with Dr. Strange still continuing.

"Sorry we're late but the traffic on the Astral Plane is unbelievable."

The man begins to interrupt Dr. Strange by saying in a disappointed tone tinged in slight aggravation, indicating his watch to him and Index by pointing at it, as if denoting the fact that they were late.

"It's 3:30. You're suppose to be here at 3:00. I'm not paying for the last half hour."

Dr. Strange begins to make a deadpanned expression as he made a slight chuckle.

"Heh. Nice to meet you too." Dr. Strange begins to turn towards Index. "Here's one of your lessons for today, my dear student. As a Master of the Mystic Arts, you will encounter various different types of people throughout the Known and Unknown Multiverse. Some of them good. Some of them bad. Some of them worst. Some of them..." Dr Strange slightly turns to look at the man in front of him before turning back to Index. "Downright exasperating. So you must exercise prudence and right judgment in the dealings of the common folk, always remembering to keep firm and humble, having the self-knowledge that there is always something that one misses through lack of tact and insight. You would do well to remember that."

Index made a firm nod as she said in a humble tone.

"Yes, Master Strange."

"Alright then." Dr. Strange said with a nod and a smile before beginning to sport a serious expression, turning towards the man who called for him and his apprentice. "Now that we have dispensed from the small talk, show us the demons."

"Alright." The man agreed as he begins to head towards the door, opening it in turn. "Here they are."

By the time the door was opened, Dr. Strange and Index begin to sport expressions of...

Utter bewilderment and confusion as to what is happening right in front of them.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

The excited sounds of innocent children seemed to screamed from the entire room, with some of them running, with some of them playing with the balloons, with some of them hitting those same balloons on the rest of their fellow children, with some of them playing with their food, with some of them using said food to draw on the walls, and many other things of innocence that graced the age of young children.

As Dr. Strange and Index begin to examine their surroundings closely enough, the children seemed to be perfectly healthy and fine, enjoying certain festivities, never really in any danger. Then there's the many colorful decorations that seemed to adorned the entire room.

It was at that moment when Dr. Strange begins to sport a look of immediate recognition on his face.

For how could he not?

For how many times have he attended such a gathering of young children?

There was only one possible way to explain this.

A simple concept that was a firm constant throughout the Known and Unknown Multiverse.

A Birthday Party.

Index begins to turn towards her master and teacher, sporting the same look of recognition on her face, as she begins to say in a tone of confusion and bewilderment.

"Master Strange."

"Yes, Index."

"I don't think there are any demons in this area."

"So do I, Index. So do I."

Dr. Strange begins to look towards the man with a look of expected exasperation on his face.

"Sir, did you by any chance called us here because you thought that I was a simple magician who does magic tricks?"

The man seemed to sport a confused look on his face.

"What you're not?"

At this point, Dr. Strange could only begin to pinch his eyes and sigh in exasperation, thinking to himself on the fact that one of his students of TARDIS School, Kaito Kuroba, was more than fitting enough for this simple assignment. Hell, even his fellow 12 Core Member's wife, Zatanna Zatara, the Sorceress Supreme of the DCAU (Timm Verse) Prime Verse was uniquely qualified for this simple task as she was also a magician of tricks aside from magic.

In any rate...

Perhaps this could actually work out to his favor after all.

For he could turn this into a simple lesson that could be learned by his student.

Yes, he thought to himself, this might not really be so bad after all.

He could use a break from his duties every once in a while.

This opportunity had given him just that.

"Ok, we can make this work." Dr. Strange said with an accepted sigh while turning towards the man once more. "How much are you going to pay us?"

"150 dollars."

"Alright." Dr. Strange said while turning towards Index, saying in a lectured tone. "Well, my dear student. Here is one of your lessons in the Mystic Arts. We don't always get to deal with cosmic threats of the spatio-temporal order every single day of the week. Sometimes, we deal with the simple things of life. It's these simple things that should help to remind us on who we are and what we're fighting for. It's these simple things that help us to keep our feet firmly on the ground. For now, let us enjoy the festivities and make the children experience a birthday party that they would never forget which would be etched unto their hearts. For children are the hope of the future, no matter what universe or multiverse. Understood."

"Yes, Master Strange."

And so, Dr. Strange and Index begin to make use of themselves, summoning spells of every variety that made the children sport smiles of joy and excitement on their faces.

In one such incident, Dr. Strange begins to summon a spell that made the balloon animals come alive, tackling the children in a playful manner, with the children sporting a smile on their faces.

In one such incident, Index was sitting on the sofa, accompanied by many children who were sporting awed looks on their faces, telling her how beautiful she was, to which she responded with a gentle smile, saying 'Thank you' out of gratitude.

In one such incident, Dr. Strange was now levitating in a monk like position, with his eyes closed, juggling a couple of juggling balls in a circle formation, much to the amazement and awe of the children.

In one such incident, Index begins to make blue morpho butterflies come out of her Walking Church which excited the children as they tried to capture the butterflies who are now scattering in multiple directions.

In one such incident, Dr. Strange was now casting a spell that opens doorways to the LEGO Multiverse, where hundreds of LEGO Soldiers marched on to the floors and carpets of the room, which made the children sport awed expressions on their faces.

In one such incident, Index was telling stories of myth and legend to her young audience, with said young audience on their best behavior, sporting expressions of awe, with words such as 'OOOH' and 'AAAH' being heard among them due to such amazement of such wonderful tales.

In one such incident, during the game of hide and seek, Dr. Strange was chasing after his Cloak of Levitation due to the fact that it had pranked him once again by tripping him across the floor, which ended up with him falling down one of the stairs of the house, which then led to the chase between an annoyed master and his trolling cape, with the children watching on in cheering and laughter and with Index sporting a sweatdropped expression on her face.

In one such incident, Index was being circled around by the children as they made a sort of merry go round, with Index and the children dancing to the tune of the music that is now being played on the background.

In one such incident, the man who called them, now known by the name of James Christian Kimmel, also known as Jimmy Kimmel, who was known in this world as an American television host, comedian, writer, and producer, is now singing a happy birthday while bringing a simple birthday cake for the birthday boy in question who's first name was Marcus, alongside Dr. Stephen Strange, Index, and the rest of the children who all have birthday party hats on their head.

These and many more incidents warmed the heart of A Certain Magical Index.

This was what her beloved savior was fighting for.

This was what the man known as Touma Kamijou was fighting for.

On this, her heart was glad that she could make full use of her magic in order to make children happy.

If she were to be completely honest to herself, this was one of the best moments in her life.

A life that was shackled by the cycle of rinse and repeat of memories.

Now...

She was free.

She could be free to do what she want.

And what she wanted more than anything was...

To fight by her beloved savior's side.

To fight for her world.

To fight for smiles just like her beloved savior.

Just like the smiles that sported these innocent children.

She sees the children sporting smiles of many subtle meanings of positivity.

She begins to utter a certain scripture passage, softly muttering the words in Latin, asking the LORD, the GOD of the Known and Unknown Multiverse, to shower down his infinite blessings on all of the children of this birthday party.

"benedicat tibi Dominus et custodiat te

The Lord bless thee, and keep thee.

ostendat Dominus faciem suam tibi et misereatur tui

The Lord shew his face to thee, and have mercy on thee.

convertat Dominus vultum suum ad te et det tibi pacem

The Lord turn his countenance to thee, and give thee peace."

(Nm 6:24-26)

This scene seems to call to mind another scripture passage that was uttered by the LORD and SAVIOR himself during the his three year ministry in the Holy Land.

Iesus vero ait eis sinite parvulos et nolite eos prohibere ad me venire talium est enim regnum caelorum

But Jesus said to them: Suffer the little children, and forbid them not to come to me: for the kingdom of heaven is for such.

(Mt 19:14)

Yes, it was true.

AMEN.

This was one of the precious moments when A Certain Promise of A Certain Magical Index was forged.

And with it, starts her destined journey of the Ways of the Mystic Arts.

The Protege, Apprentice, and Student of the Sorcerer Supreme – The Master of the Mystic Arts.

The Potential Candidate of a God of Magic – a being who has mastered magic, can bend all things in the world without exception through magic, something that transcends normal magic and steps into the realm of God.

An aspiring goal that would be engraved deeply on her heart as she fights alongside her beloved savior.

For the sake of all smiles.

For the Future of the Future.
