Danny, Luz, and the rest of the group are at Hexside Academy.
"So how exactly are we going to be able to find Penelope? We can't exactly just walk around the school. We're not students." Jazz asked.
"You're not students. Yet." Luz told them.
Luz and the others go to Principal Bump's office to speak to him.
"Hey Princy-B!"
"Good morning Luz." He notices the crowd of people with her as he sits at his desk writing something. "I'm assuming you have a favor to ask."
"Yes sir. I have some friends here that want to enroll at Hexside Academy. It'll only be for at the most a few days. I promise."
"Hmm." Principal Bump thought for a several seconds.
"Pleeeease?" Luz asked.
"Alright then. I trust that you and your friends won't cause trouble while you're here?" Principal Bump asked.
"No trouble. We promise." Danny said.
"You seem like a responsible young man. I'll take your word for it. Hexside could use more human exchange students, with varying personalities. The more the merrier as they say." Principal Bump said. "And you are?" He asked referring to Vlad.
"Vlad Masters. I'm a friend of Daniel's parents. They entrusted me the safety of him and his friends while they are out of town." Vlad told him, shaking his hands.
"All right then. I'm assuming it's you four correct?" Danny, Jazz, Sam, and Tucker nodded. He sent four scrolls in front of Jazz, Danny, Tucker, and Sam. "Sign your names here. We'll need to make room for you four."
They all signed their signatures on the scroll. "You're all set. Normally, I would have you audition like Luz did for her first day. But unfortunately, I won't be around to attend as a potential new member of our staff is coming for an interview. Instead, you'll take a tour of each coven class for the day. Since you all are late bloomers, you won't be able to experience the annual Covention, so you'll have to take a look at the minor tracks on your own time. If you still need more time to decide after the first day let me know. If not, come to my office first thing in the morning to choose your track or tracks."
"And one more thing. Luz, I am entrusting you to be their guide, since you're on all of the tracks. Take them in whatever order you please. But make sure they visit them all. Please keep your friends out of trouble. I can't stress that enough. Consequences await you if you do happen to get into trouble." Principal Bump told them.
"You have my word. Thank you so much Princy-B!" Luz told him.
"You're very welcome. Class is about to start. I hope you all have a good day and you four enjoy your time here!"
As they walked out into the hallway, Penelope entered. "Oh! You're here! I didn't hear you walk in. You must be Mabel, correct?" Principal Bump asked looking at what appeared to be her resume. "I've read your resume. It says here that you have prior experience working with children at school as a guidance counselor and teacher."
"Yes sir, I do." "Mabel" said. "I absolutely love children and hope to work here for a while. After all school is considered a second home for some of them. I want to make sure this school is a place where every child wants to come back to every day. I have one question: Have you ever consider using the air conditioner more often? I've read that students perform better when it is constantly nice and cool." She continued, enthusiastic and grinning from ear-to-ear.
"So where to first?" Danny asked.
"Well, the first track we're going to is the plant track." Luz said, carrying a checklist that she made.
"Great! You guys are starting with my track today!" Willow told them, excited.
"Well, I've got to go to the abomination track. I'll see you guys." Amity told them.
"I've gotta go too. The illusion track. Later guys!" Gus said.
"Bye Gus! Amity! I'll see you guys later!" Luz said.
"Lilith and I aren't going to be with you either kid. Not until lunch anyway. We'll be outside the school. If we find anything, we'll let you know."
"Got it. I'll see you guys at lunch!" Luz told them.
"Lead the way. I think its best that I follow you and not explore until lunch. Don't want to raise any suspicion." Vlad told her.
"Plant track is this way." Luz told them, pointing.
Entering the room for plant tracks, they were one of the first students there.
"Good morning Luz, Willow." The plant track teacher told them. He was mixed with a black mustache. He's also bald. He had hair at one point, though. How he lost it. Well, he doesn't want to talk about it.
"Good morning!" Both Luz and Willow said simultaneously.
"I see we have more human exchange students. Good morning to you all, and welcome to the plant track. Take any seat you like. I've already been made aware we would have more students taking a tour today so I added four more seats. We will start class in a few minutes. You may take a seat at a table if you'd like mister…"
"Masters. Vlad Masters." Vlad told him shaking his hand.
The other students slowly entered the room, filling the seats.
"Good morning everyone! If you haven't noticed already we have four new human exchange students. Please give them a warm welcome around Hexside between class and during lunch. For the new students, my name is Mr. Forest. If you four would kindly introduce yourselves." Mr. Forest instructed them.
Danny, Jazz, Tucker, and Sam all gave their introductions. Tucker, however added something to his introduction.
"If any of you ladies want to talk, I'm open after class." Tucker told them. Danny simply face palmed. Sam just rolled her eyes.
"Thank you. For today's lesson we're going to be learning how to create a hedge. Of course, we aren't going to create an entire hedge, just a part of one. Magic takes imagination and innovation for it to reach its true potential." He says as he creates a hedge of himself watering a plant. "I want you all to design a hedge. Appropriate designs only please. But be creative! Be yourself! You four can choose to either participate, maybe pitch in a few ideas or watch. At the end of the period, I want you all to show your designs off to the class for a walkthrough."
Different designs were thought up. Some of them made the cut, others didn't. Luz also taught the four some basic plant spells that she had been learning. In the end, there were leaves everywhere. Tucker even got a plant beard out of it.
"Tucker?" Danny asked, looking for him before seeing the beard. "I'm afraid to ask."
"Beards are totally in this year. Women dig a guy with the lumberjack look." Tucker said, grabbing it as if it were real facial hair.
"So Sam? What do you think?" Tucker said, knuckles on his hips standing tall and proud.
"You look ridiculous." Sam said.
"Tell that to the women that prefer the look." Tucker said.
"You aren't even old enough to grow facial hair yet." Danny told him. Just then, the unneeded grass that weren't part of the designs disappeared. Sam had cut off Tucker's beard. He gasped in shock, before trying to save face.
"Sometimes you just need to start fresh with a clean-shaven look." Tucker told them.
"All right class! Let's see what you've come up with your designs." Mr. Forest told them.
Willow and Luz were able to make Luz with a cape wielding Eda's owl staff. Jerbo and another student were able to make themselves high fiving each other. Amelia and another student made a replica of Tucker, as he was standing triumphantly. Other designs from the other students included a thumbs up, a smiley face and some other simple designs.
"Not too bad if I do say so myself." Tucker said as he noticed the design of him.
"If you loved that one, you're gonna love the next one." Danny said, thumbing towards the one next to it where Tucker is gasping in shock after his beard got cut.
"Copycats. They only did that one because they wanted it to look slightly different than the other one." Tucker told them.
"Very nice! An excellent job to you all!" He said. "I hope you four have picked up a few spells and tricks today." The designs disappear as the bell rings. "Have a good day and I hope you four enjoy Hexside!"
All the students exited the classroom.
"Where to next Luz?" Tucker asked.
"Healing." Luz said and pointed to the direction of the class.
"Good morning class. If you haven't noticed already we have four new human exchange students with us." The teacher said. He had one eye, was dark sinned and had short hair.
The students, Bo the most being part of the Human Appreciation Society had looked at the four with intrigue.
"To show them the ropes we're going to be taking notes regarding healing spells and have four students demonstrate a healing spell on the four exchange students. And no, you don't have to purposely injure yourself for this demonstration. But first things first, I want you four to introduce yourselves You four will be the patients today." The teacher said.
The introductions were the same, including Tucker's.
After taking notes, the four were assigned to a random student. Danny to a girl with tan skin and a short, unicorn like horn on her forehead and blue pigtails. Sam was assigned with Viney. Tucker was assigned with Bo, and Jazz was assigned with Cat.
"You do know what you're doing right? I'm not going to just suddenly have my head explode right?" Tucker asked Bo as he was laid back on a mat.
Bo giggled. "Of course not!" She thought for a second. "I think. If it helps, I can turn fireballs into snow."
"Pretty cool but I don't think that's really encouraging." Tucker said a nervous expression on his face.
"Goth huh? I like it. I feel like it suits your personality a lot." Viney told Sam.
"Thanks. What's with the multi-colored sleeves and leggings?" Sam asked.
"Oh these. I'm on the multi-track." Viney responded.
"Most of the students I see here except for you, Luz and someone else are on one track." Sam said.
"I just wasn't feeling going with one track. Taking the road travelled on the most for success doesn't exactly translate into success for everyone." Viney said.
"You're not afraid to be different. I like you a lot. What did you say your name was again?"
"Viney."
"Viney. I can definitely respect that decision a lot. Willing to be different not because others want you to, but because you want you to."
"Yeah. It's the reason why I felt like I could respect you as soon as I was assigned to you. You're different. And you're not afraid to be." Viney told her as she finished with the healing spell.
"Wow. I don't think I've ever felt this good. Eating salads and vegetables don't even get me to feel this way."
"Yeah. The healing spell I did helps even when you're not actually injured. Really refreshes your body as if it were sleep for a while, you exercised and stretched, and you had your favorite food and drink. Probably the best way I could describe it."
"Whatever it was, it's definitely effective."
Viney and Sam talked about their hobbies, how the human world compares to the demon world, among other things for the rest of the class.
"Hey uh? Do you think you I can get what she got?" Tucker asked Bo, referring to Sam.
Bo tapped one of her fingers on her chin. "Hmm." "Actually, I have a better idea!" Bo told him, smiling.
"Uh, I don't like the look of this." Tucker said, gulping.
"That felt really good. You seem like you really know what you're doing. I never thought it would feel possible to feel better than after I exercise." Jazz said to Cat.
"Yeah. Some of these feelings involve the nerves a lot. I simulate the best feelings that your nerves can possibly feel and I multiply them. There also is a feeling that your body feels after resting from different types of work whether its physical, mental or both. So I simulated that feeling with the spell too, getting your brain to send off signals that really makes your body feel like you're in a state of relaxation." Cat told her.
"I've definitely got to learn some of these."
"So, Tucker, what're your favorites? It can be your favorite thing to do, food, anything." Bo asked him.
"Well, if you must ask. It's video games. But the one thing I absolutely love the most is technology. It's something I don't feel I could ever live without. And meat."
"I see. Let's get started then!" She said, smiling.
"Please don't be dead, please don't be dead please don't be dead!" Tucker said, closing his eyes. Bo began the healing spell. After about 30 seconds she was finished.
"All right! That's it!"
"Am I in heaven? I don't think I've ever felt this good. Ever. It feels like I just got every single thing I wanted in the world. That has to be the only logical explanation." Tucker asked.
Bo laughed. "No, silly. You're not dead. All I did was send signals to your brain with all of your favorite things. When people do their favorite stuff or eat or drink their favorite things, dopamine is released by the brain. By doing that, it was like you were living your best dream ever."
"Wow. That's really smart." Tucker said.
"Thanks." Bo giggled again, this time a little red in the cheeks.
"Well, it seems like you all did an excellent job. I'm seeing all smiles. An A+ for you all! It's about time for class to end. I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your day!" The teacher said. The bell rang afterwards.
"Next up: Abominations. Amity's track!" Luz told them while looking at the checklist.
"Tucker please don't do that introduction again next class. You're only embarrassing yourself. No girl is going to want to talk to you if you do that." Sam said.
Just then a student with freckles and brown hair walked next to the group, intending to get Tucker's attention.
"Hi. You're Tucker, right? My name's Bo. I know you have another class but if you want to talk later and hang out I'll be at the library after school and at lunch today. Bye." Bo walks off before saying "I did it! I did it! I did it!"
"You were saying?" Tucker asked Sam, giving her a look that said "I told you so. I'm a genius."
"See? The clean-shaven look works every time. Just take it from me Danny. All you have to do to get a girl to like you is to be assertive. Do what I did next class in your introduction and they'll be all over you." Tucker told him.
"I think I'd much rather be good old Danny Fenton thank you very much." Danny said.
"Yeah. Even if he can be a little stubborn and boneheaded at times he's caring, brave-" Sam realized everyone was staring at her. "I said that out loud didn't I?"
Danny felt a little embarrassed. "Thanks, Sam."
"I mean it's true! Sometimes you can be an idiot. Even more so than Tucker at times." Sam told him, causing Danny to frown at her comment.
"Hey!" Tucker said, offended by her remark. Luz only smiled after Sam's comments about Danny. Yep. I totally ship it.
"Does anyone feel like there's a bit of a draft?" Sam asked.
"Actually, yeah." Danny responded.
They arrived to the next class.
"Ah! Good morning Luz! And I see you've brought the exchange students with you for today."
"Good morning sir!" Luz responded.
"For today, we'll be providing a demonstration for our new students on what creating abominations is all about. And who would be more fitting than of my finest students to demonstrate first. Amity Blight." The abomination teacher said.
"It would be my pleasure. For you four, creating abominations and having it perform certain actions, like all magic requires creativity. But it also takes skill, and control. Observe." Amity rolls over a pot containing Amity's abomination.
"Abomination. Rise!" The abomination rises from the pot and walks out of it.
"Abomination. Dance!" The abomination did as it was told, adding breakdancing as well.
"Abomination. Up high!" The abomination gives Amity a high five.
"Down low." The abomination attempts to give Amity a low five before she takes her hand away at the last second.
"Too slow!" She said.
"Excellent! Excellent!" The teacher says as he claps, joyful.
He, with the help of Amity, explain the rest of the basics required to create and master control of a basic abomination creature. Vlad taking notes as well. Everyone takes notes until the bell.
"Moving on, we've got: Potions. I've got to warn you guys, one of the girls there named Boscha, she's the one with three eyes, can be a bit rude." Luz told them as they walked in.
"Good morning class! I can see we have the human exchange students with us! Please sit! It is my pleasure to show you personally what the potion track has to offer!" A woman with purple hair and pale skin told them full of joy.
Vlad was taking notes here too. Tucker took a notice to this. "I'm starting to wonder if it was a good idea to bring him with us." He whispered to Danny and the others.
"Yeah. He's taking a lot of notes. I'll keep an eye on him. Also, Boscha doesn't seem that bad to me. She seemed nice. She showed me some potion spells and got me started with making some of my own potions. Healing potions, a love potion. Heck, I even learned a potion how to breathe fire." Danny told them.
"Danny, you realize what's happening right?" Sam said.
"I'm actually having fun in school?" Danny asked.
"No. Well that too. But that's not what I'm talking about. She only did that stuff because she has a crush on you." Sam said.
"What? I think you're looking too much into this Sam." Brushing Sam's statement off, smiling. As he and the others look back and see Boscha look back and blink rapidly and smile at him, giggling as he waves at her.
"She has a point Danny. Two against one, we may be different in some ways but if one thing is the same, all girls know and see the telltale signs that a girls likes someone else." Jazz said.
The bell rings again for the end of class.
"Farewell! I hope to see at least one of you four back here again!" The teacher said. As they walk into the hallway, Boscha and her group was waiting for them.
"Looks like Luz has recruited more members for her nerd fan-club." Boscha said.
"Look at four eyes. This is your first time seeing sunlight in what four months?" She asked Tucker, pulling his hat over his eyes so he can't see. Walking, he almost walks into someone.
"What's with the Goth look? Going through a phase? Don't answer that. Whatever it is I'm sure it'll be just as boring as your life probably is." Referring to Sam.
"You however look totally cute. If you ever want to ditch these losers and come with the cool kids, you'll see me around." She said referring to Danny.
"I can feel the nerd waves coming off of you. And I usually only feel that from Willow. So I know you have to be a loser." She said to Jazz.
"Well this 'loser' just happened to be this 'handsome guy's' brother." Jazz said, frowning hands on her hips.
"Oh! So, is he single?" Boscha asked, changing her tone. "If he is, tell him we should talk at lunch. Again, you'll recognize me and my friends easily."
"Talk to you later Danny!" Boscha said as they walk away. "I have GOT to post this on Penstagram."
"You always get the cute ones! How?" One of the other girls with her asked.
"I try. You see it's all in…" Boscha started before they got out of earshot.
"I think being a bit rude is being too nice. How about A LOT rude." Tucker said, fixing his hat. "And I'll have you know I have seen sunlight a lot recently. Although there was that one time I spent like a whole week of my summer playing a new video game non-stop, running on water and chocolate bars."
"Danny, you wouldn't seriously consider talking to her right?" Sam asked.
"Of course not. She and Dash look like they were made for each other." Danny said.
"Why do you care? I mean it's not like you're his girlfriend or anything." Tucker asked.
Sam turned Tucker's hat again.
"Can't see again!" Tucker said, running into a locker.
"Next track. Construction!" Luz said. They follow her to the construction track area.
"Guys? Guys!" Tucker said. Hat still over his head. Amity walks past Tucker about to get her books and notices him. A field of yellow energy surrounds his hat and she lifts it off of his head and fixes it.
"Thanks." Tucker said.
"Don't mention it. If you're wondering where Luz and the others went, they went that way to the construction track." Amity said, gesturing to the last person that he saw in the group who was Sam before they turn a corner down another hall.
As Amity closes her locker, she notices a student posting a flyer on the wall right next to her.
The flyer has the picture of the counselor. She has purple hair, going down her back with a black suit, and wearing reading glasses. It reads: New Hexside Academy Counselor! Mabel Fermin.
In smaller text it reads: Stop by and say hello! Need to let something off your chest, while you're at it? Need relationship advice? Failing a class? Need study tips? Need a second opinion before you transfer tracks? Don't hesitate! Come and talk to her today! Drop-ins are welcome! No appointments needed! Office is located next to the detention track room.
"Thanks again!" Tucker said as he went to follow the others.
Amity goes to see this counselor. Believing that it isn't the same person as Penelope, she goes there for advice.
As she goes to the office, she knocks on the door. The door opens and a student walks out, depressed. It was Eileen. Strange. She almost never shows any type of emotion. Amity thought.
"Come on in!" The counselor said.
"Hello! I'm Amity. Amity Blight." Amity said, a little shy grabbing her left arm.
"Hi! My name is Mabel Fermin. I am the new guidance counselor at this wonderful school. But you probably knew that part already. Otherwise, you wouldn't be here to see me." She laughed a little.
"So, what would you like to talk about today?" She asked, smiling.
Amity had a strange feeling. She didn't want to be there anymore. "Actually, I'd rather not talk about it. Thank you though." Amity said, about to get up.
"There's nothing to be afraid of. This is the one place where you should feel comfortable saying what you want. Have you ever had a counselor before?" She asked.
"Actually, no." Amity said, looking up at her changing her tone.
"As your counselor, this office is a safe haven for students to say what they'd like without fear of being laughed at, mocked, or shamed. I may not have all of the answers, but I'll try my best. No one's perfect." Mabel told her.
"Well…. there's someone that I have a crush on." Amity said, blushing and looking down.
"Ah, romance. You don't have to be embarrassed. It's something that everyone goes through." Mabel told Amity.
"No, you misunderstand. The person that I like. I don't know if they see me the same way. Someone new came along, and they became friends. It just seems like they, at least the one I like likes the new friend. And I'm a bit jealous. They told me that they care for me, but I just… I don't know what to make of it. I don't hate the new friend or anything. I just… I don't know." Amity said.
"I see." Mabel said, taking off her glasses and cleaning them. She leaves them on the desk.
"I hear you're one of the best students at Hexside Academy. A star student. Always working hard, making high marks. One of the best when it comes to creating abominations. Always practicing and striving to be better. The exact image of a model star student." Mabel said. Amity felt proud. She wouldn't say it but to see that her reputation reaches those that are completely new to the academy made her feel as if she was at the top of the world at the moment.
"But it seems the one test you can't ace is the test of love. You're confused. The person you're referring to wouldn't happen to be named Luz Noceda would it?" Mabel asked.
"Yes. How do you know?" Amity asked, caught off guard by her knowledge of her secret.
"Well, she came by a few moments ago. She told me that there was a boy that she had a crush on, but she wasn't sure if he felt the same way towards her. She wouldn't say anything more after that. All she said was that they had just met, and it was love at first sight. She told me about you and told me that she only befriended you out of pity and guilt for herself, telling you things that made you feel good and what you wanted to hear." Mabel told her.
"I- I- Why did you tell me this?" Amity asked, trying to hold in her mixture of emotions.
"Because I care for my students. Usually I allow things to stay inside this office between me and the person I'm talking to. But I'm doing this because I'm trying to prevent any pain in the future. I am so sorry." Mabel said to her, putting a hand on her shoulder.
"It-" Amity sniffs. "Its okay. Thank you for opening my eyes." She said before walking out of the office. She wanted to talk to Luz after class to confirm all of those statements. She had her doubts that Luz would say some of those things. She felt like a genuinely nice person. It didn't feel artificial at all. So why did she do all of things out of pity? Why did Luz keep trying to befriend her and believe that she could be a better person? To make her feel pain? By making her feel joy? Causing her to develop feelings for her and then send them crashing down like a rollercoaster? She would get her answers soon enough.
At the moment, only the teacher there and a student named Mattholomule.
"Good morning Luz! Looks like we've got some new visitors! I hope you four are ready to learn and work hard." The teacher said. He was purple, had on a yellow hard hat and had a small amount of facial hair starting to develop under his chin.
"I see you've brought more humans with you Luz. Something tells me you all aren't here for a friendly visit." Mattholomule said to them.
"What brings you all to the boiling isles?" He asked. Staring at Danny in particular. "There's something odd about you especially. I just don't know what it is yet."
"It's the hair right?" Danny said, trying to come up with anything to deflect. Mattholomule raised his eyebrow in response. "Your hair is a bit out of the ordinary." He told him as the class filled.
After learning a few of the basics, the class was left to their own devices. Danny and Tucker were goofing off with their own house.
"Little pig, little pig. Let me in!" Danny said.
"Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin!" Tucker said.
"Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down!" Danny said, blowing and using his cryokinesis from his eyes, freezing it.
Mattholomule notices this and is in shock. He can't believe it! A human just froze a house! Before he can raise questions, the bell rings, coughing and needing some water. A pigeon hands the bell water and it drinks it before ringing again.
"Good work everyone! Have a great lunch!"
They get lunch and sit, with Tucker, Gus and Willow going for a PB&J Sandwich, Danny going for a burger, Sam eating a salad, Luz eating nuggets and fries and Jazz eating pizza.
"I'll get a headstart in looking for Penelope." Vlad said.
"We'll catch up with you as soon as we finish." Danny said.
"Do some of these students around here look a little more depressed than usual?" Danny asked the others.
"If you mean depressed as in: they have to go to school, not really. If there's one thing that will universally draw out sadness, it's school." Tucker responded.
"I'm serious guys. It's colder in here too. It's disrupting my ghost senses. That can only mean one thing." Danny told them.
"Penelope." Sam said.
"She has to be here somewhere. Or close. The issue is, I can't seem to find any telltale signs that she's here. No posters, no guidance counselor offices, nothing." Danny told them.
"I do know one person that definitely isn't depressed." Jazz said, referring to Boscha. She notices Danny and waves heavily.
"Looks like your admirer wants to see you, Danny." Said Sam, teasing Danny.
"Do you think he noticed me? Should I go for a different hairstyle? Maybe he prefers a bald look or a short cut. Maybe different nails." Boscha asked, bringing up a mirror having it float in front of her face. She changed from a frizzy hair style to a hairstyle where her hair comes down, to pigtails, to bald and back to her original hairstyle.
"I'm sure he's totally crazy for you." Skara told her.
"I think I'll pass. Besides I'm hungry. I'd rather not move until I'm finished eating." Danny said, ready to chow down.
"Has anyone seen Amity?" Gus asked.
"Come to think of it, no." Luz answered after taking a bite of her sandwich.
"She almost never misses lunch. It must be something important." Willow said.
"I saw her before we went to construction class. She helped me with my hat then went in her locker for something." Tucker told them.
"I'll check on her. If she comes here, tell her I went looking for her, alright?" Luz said and got up.
Luz looks around. The library, outside of the school, everywhere. Unfortunately for both of them, they were in opposite places, never running into each other.
"Hey Bo!" Luz said in the library. "Oh, hey Luz!" She said while reading.
"You haven't seen Amity around here have you?"
"No, I haven't. Did you check the lunchroom? She's always there before she ever decides to visit the library on lunch break."
"Yeah, she wasn't there."
"Hmm, I'm not sure. She might have came in while I wasn't looking. Or maybe she's finally in the lunchroom?"
"Good idea. I should probably double back. Thanks!"
"You're welcome! Tell Tucker I said hi!" Bo called before she turned the page on her book. Someone had shushed her.
"Sorry!" Bo said.
At the same time Luz was in the library, Amity was in the lunchroom, asking where Luz went.
"Have you guys seen Luz?" Amity asked.
"No. She was actually looking for you." Jazz told her.
"Thanks" was all Amity said before she ran out into the halls. Slowing down only because of the hall monitors stating that they can smell trouble.
"Maybe its Steve." One of the guards said.
"Is not!" Another guard, presumably Steve denied. Amity walked outside to the library.
"Even so, I have a feeling that trouble is coming. If not now, soon." Another guard said.
"Hey Bo, did you see Luz?"
"Actually yeah. She was just here maybe a couple of minutes ago. She said she was looking for you."
"Thanks."
"You're welcome!"
Luz doubles back into the lunchroom, as the two trade places with Luz being in the lunch room and Amity being in the library. Danny and the others tell her that she was just in the lunchroom. Unable to find her, she knocks on the guidance counselor's door after seeing the flyer. She sees a student walk out depressed.
"Hey! You're the new guidance counselor! Mabel, right?" Luz asked.
"Correct. You must be Luz Noceda, the first human to attend this school. Is that right?" Mabel asked.
"Yeah. How do you know about me?"
"Your name is a buzz around the school. Eventually, it got around to me too. It is very nice to meet you in person!" She said, shaking hands with Luz.
"It's nice to meet you too. I never thought- wait a second." Luz said.
"Is there… something wrong?" Mabel said, afraid she might be found out.
"Yeah. I never knew Hexside even had the budget to hire counselors. You learn something new every day. Well at least I know here I won't get lectured on trying to fit in and be normal.
"Yes. Well, of course not." Mabel said, recomposing herself.
"So, what did you want to talk to me about?" Mabel asked.
"Oh, it's about this friend I have named Amity."
"Amity? I see."
"Yeah. She's awesome. A top student. A hard worker. Really knows what she's doing with magic and abominations. If there's one other person I want to be like other then Eda, it's Amity. Recently, though she's been acting strange. Ever since these new people showed up to the boiling isles, she's been acting different. Especially to one of them. I think she thinks I have a crush on him because of how I acted, when I don't. I think she doesn't approve of him and is trying to protect me."
Amity overheard talking from the guidance office.
"Luz?"
"Amity's nice, caring and sweet." She overheard Luz say, causing Amity to blush. Aw, thanks. She thought.
"But I just don't know how to tell her that I'm not interested…"
Amity tuned everything else out then. Those last two words echoed in her head. Not interested. Not interested. Not interested. Not interested.
"… in him."
She ran and cried.
"Well-" Mabel started.
Before she could finish, she heard crying that sounded like Amity.
"Is that? Hold on for one moment." Luz said getting up out of the chair and opening the door.
"Amity?" She thought she saw her turn a corner after seeing a small part of her hair.
She ran after her. As Luz turned another corner, she heard Amity outside of the campus now, crying and running. Luz runs and gets to the steps of the school to find Amity and try to talk to her. But she was gone.
Danny had a sick feeling in his stomach. Something was wrong.
"What is it Danny?" Jazz said. Usually he eats his food when he's hungry. When he doesn't eat all of it, something's wrong.
"Both of them are missing." Danny started. "Amity's been gone for fifteen minutes. Luz has been gone for ten. Neither of them came back here. Vlad never came back either."
"I'm going to go find them. If they come back here, you guys tell them I went looking for them." Danny said.
"I'll uh, check in the library." Tucker said.
"Really Tucker? We both know why you're going to the library." Danny told him, not going for it.
"Yeah, you caught me. I'm going to go see Bo." Tucker then had a serious expression on his face. "But seriously though, I'll let you guys know if I see anything."
"Thanks, Tucker." Danny told him.
"It's been over 20 minutes. Just get over there and talk to him!" Cat told Boscha.
"But my hair! What if he doesn't like it!?" Boscha said, hysterical.
"It is literally the same hairstyle that it's always been." Skara told her.
"You won't know what he'll like if you don't talk to him." Amelia said, pushing her out into the walkway of the cafeteria. They were on a collision course with one another.
"Hey, uh Danny."
"Hi." Danny said, trying to be friendly but wanting to speed things up.
Boscha first started to twirl one part of her hair, trying to look at Danny but also looked away a little too. Nervous and embarrassed. "So, um I think we got off on the wrong foot earlier. I'm sorry for talking to your friends that way. I really am." She paused for a bit.
"Oh, it's fine. Apology accepted." Danny said before starting to walk past her. He could tell the apology was genuine. He didn't think she would sincerely apologize at all so he was a little surprised.
"Come on Boscha, you're the leader of the Banshees! I-If it's possible, can we um… have food or… d-do something together? With friends? No that's not right. That definitely sounded lame." She asked.
"You mean 'hang out'?" Danny asked smiling.
"Y-Y-Yeah! If that's… you know, cool with you." She said, grabbing her arm and looking away again.
"Yeah, I'm down for it!" Danny told her.
"Great! I'll see you then!" Boscha told him.
"You didn't even give me a-" Danny started before she darted off towards her friends.
"Time." Danny finished.
"Oh, sorry I forgot to ask: Is there anything humans, um, like to do when they hang out?" Boscha asked.
"I'll answer that when we see each other again. I've really got to use the bathroom. See you later!" Danny waved before trying to speed up his walking and left the lunchroom.
"See? That wasn't so bad now, was it?" Amelia told Boscha.
"Yeah. I guess you guys were right." Boscha told them smiling.
When Danny went into the hallway, he went invisible. First order of business is finding out what the heck's going on around here.
He was at a bit of an impasse. If he goes to check on Vlad, Luz and Amity might be in serious trouble. But if he doesn't find Vlad, they all might be in serious trouble if he's planning something. He chose to find Luz and Amity. He's stopped Vlad before. He could do it again if he had too. He had to find friends.
