The next morning, Dipper woke up. Stan wasn't in bed. He must've stepped out. Dipper proceeded to continue copying the information from the book into his journal when he got a call on his cellphone. He checked to see who it was.
It was Mabel.
How long has it been? Dipper answered the phone.
"Hey sis, what's up?"
"Hey, not much...how's Grunkle Stan doing?"
"He isn't taking it very well..."
"Yea...I don't think any of us are...I'm sorry I couldn't be there for the funeral, but you know...overseas and all that. I don't have the money at the moment to get a plane ticket back..."
"Hey, it's okay...when you do come down, just make sure to stop by and say hi to Stan. He misses you a lot."
"Yeah, I'll do that. I miss all of you guys..."
"Oh, so I found this book," Dipper said. "This has a lot of information I need for my journal, and a way of potentially stopping Bill if he ever comes back..."
"You're still stuck on that? I don't think he'll be coming back...it's been, like, ten years..."
"These rifts have been getting more frequent, especially with these kids going to different realms. And...he's been...sending me messages in my dreams..."
"Really? Are you sure they're not just nightmares?"
"I can tell the difference...he's trying to come back...I'm trying to fix these rifts, but too many are forming. I've already spent too much time here, but there's not much I can do until we can catch a train to Nevada, and I heard the trains are down until at least Monday."
"Are you going to Vegas?"
"Yeah. There's a pretty big rift there, and I need to get there before it gets any bigger...but I don't know how I'll make it in time...plus, the car we have is just a rental, and I don't know if bringing it all the way to Vegas would be a good idea..."
Stan came back in the room. He went out for a walk. He overheard that last part and wanted to make a suggestion.
"What about your new friends? Maybe one of their parents can drive us down."
"All the way to Vegas? I doubt any of their parents would even be able to do that...but...maybe we haven't got a choice...we gotta at least try..."
"Is that Mabel on the phone?" Stan said as he was taking off his coat.
"Oh, yeah," Dipper said. "I'll put her on speaker."
Stan sat on the bed right next to the desk Dipper was sitting at as Dipper put the phone on speaker.
"Hiya, Grunkle Stan!" Mabel said.
"Hey, kiddo," Stan said. "How's Paris?"
"Beautiful! I wish you could all come see it."
When Amity came back home from school, she went to check on Luz. She called out sick, but she just didn't want to go to school today. She was sitting on her bed, looking depressed, listening to music with her earbuds. She's never had many friends in the human realm, has she? And now she can't even contact her friends in the demon realm because it could basically bring about the end of the world...
Amity was about to sit by Luz when she heard a knock on the door downstairs. Luz's mom was still at work, so Amity went down and answered the door.
"Dipper? What're you doing here?"
"Is Luz here?"
"I don't think she'd want to see you right now," Amity said. "No offense."
"No, that...makes sense...but listen, according to this, there's a rift forming in Las Vegas, and I have no way of getting there on time. Is there any chance Luz's mom is here?"
"No, she's at work...but I might just have a way of getting there..."
Amity pulled out her staff.
"A witch's staff?"
"It could at least get three people over there," Amity said. "With an invisibility spell, we should be able to fly over there without being seen and get there in about, I don't know, maybe...1 or 2 hours."
"That's perfect!" Dipper said.
Luz came out of her room.
"What's going on? Why is he here?"
"He needs our help to close a rift," Amity said. "You don't have to go if you don't want to..."
"No, I'll go...if it gets us one step closer to seeing our friends again, I gotta be able to help..." Luz took out her own staff. "So where is it?"
"Vegas," Amity said.
"So, two 14 year olds are going to Vegas?"
"Pretty much..."
So, Luz, Amity and Dipper headed out towards Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, Marcy was in her room. She pulled an all nighter playing video games. She had started to doze off. Suddenly, she saw a bright yellow light coming from her window. She walked to the door...
Wait, I can walk?
She decided to go out to investigate the yellow flash of light, but once she was outside, she didn't see anything that could've caused it. She went back into her house.
She went into the living room, expecting to find her parents there. To her surprise, someone else was there, their figure hidden in shadow.
"Hello...Marcy..."
"H...how do you know my name?"
"I know all."
The figure stepped out of the shadows to reveal itself...
"Bill Cypher!"
"Oh...so you know me?" Bill floated over to Marcy, who flinched.
"I know that you're evil!"
"Evil? Why, I'm not evil! I just...made some mistakes in the past...but I'm...trying to make up for them...I'm sure you can relate, right?"
"But Dipper said..."
"Dipper is still...bitter about our last meeting but...I can assure you I mean no harm..."
"I can't trust you..."
"I guess I can't really blame you...after what happened with King Andrias, I wouldn't trust anyone either..."
How does he know about that?
