Sorry it's been another month since I've done a new chapter. Being a YouTuber can really suck when you want to keep writing your story. Also, glad to know that "One Witch's Secrets" isn't relevant anymore, since LUMITY IS CANON NOW! YEAH! :D :D :D
Despite that though, I have to keep going with my story's timeline. Especially since there's some new relationships I want to start developing for. Just keep reading to find out. ;)
I own NOTHING from The Owl House.
You know Boscha, normally I wouldn't be getting this angry with you! Because I thought for just the TINIEST bits in my life, that you were actually a decent witch who was fun to hang out with! But no, that was just younger me being a total IDIOT and needing to stick with the fact that you're the kind of horrible person who NEVER CHANGES!
Even after EVERYTHING that happened at Hexside, you STILL remained your stupid cold-hearted self! OH WAIT, SOMETIMES I FORGET IF YOU EVEN HAVE A HEART IN THE FIRST PLACE!
It was you who made me lose Willow!
It was you who exposed my secret to Luz before I intended to!
It was you who MADE ME FEEL MISERABLE!
Amity's words were feeling like a constant echo throughout Boscha's mind on her way back home. Every single word thrown at her was like jabs to her heart, unable to get them out of her mind no matter how much she tried to forget it. In a painful circumstance, Boscha knew she deserved this.
She deserved everything that Amity said towards her. She was responsible for why Amity was such a miserable person during their so-called friendship. She just did a really good job of hiding that pain from them, while Boscha was too caught up in being the person she now resented. A painful thought haunted her mind everytime Amity's words came back to echo through again.
Amity would never want to be her friend again, let alone a proper friend.
Maybe it was better for the both of them anyway. Amity was a strong girl who could stand on her own without anyone to back her up, whereas Boscha could probably feel defeated if her own friends spoke against her words. Only now, it was a loss more tragic than just losing a Grudgby game. Her friends backed away, and she never knew how they were without her.
Boscha decided it was better that she and Amity weren't friends anymore, and saw no point in trying to rekindle it. She caused her the most amount of damage, and figured there was no bouncing back this time. The damage had been done, and perhaps it was better to leave her alone.
Still, the words hurt.
It was you who MADE ME FEEL MISERABLE!
Especially that. She just couldn't get that out of her mind.
As she made her way back home with her recent gift, a previous goal was now coming front and center. Worrying about Amity could wait, or better yet, fade away for her own sake. She needed to redeem herself to her friends, and to her crush. Looking down at her little box that she had gotten thanks to some convincing from Luz, Boscha had the confidence to at least try and attempt to reconcile.
Once she arrived back home, she made it through the empty house and into her bedroom. Her parents seem to like working even on days when Boscha wasn't at school. It didn't bother her too much, the quiet atmosphere was rather soothing.
She went into her bedroom and closed the door behind her, letting out a hearty breather as she slumped down towards the floor. Poor girl was exhausted after all the thoughts that were going through her mind, and probably needed a rest. It was back to school tomorrow, and she needed to lift her game up instead of how she was acting a few days ago.
Eventually, Boscha stood back up and went towards her bed, but not before she turned once again to the walls of trophies that were spread out across her room. Instead of turning away this time, she looked on in spite.
She couldn't bare the sight anymore. She used to be so egotistical that she even had a poster of herself near all of her trophies. It was like looking into a mirror, a mirror convincing her to turn herself back to who she was.
Boscha felt a sense of anger filling up into her body. There was no way she was going to revert back to normal, not with that disgusting look on her poster.
So she tore it down, and started to light it on fire. Granted it wasn't within safety measures to keep the fire inside, but at least she knew when to take action to put it out if it started to spread.
For now, she just wanted to put the stupid poster out of its misery. And once it would burn to pieces, she'd throw it out and make sure no traces of it would ever be seen by anyone again. She stomped on the flames to put it out, once she saw how much damage it did to the poster. Then she promptly went outside and threw it out where the wind would calmly blow it away. Chances are it'd get eaten by something.
Boscha then went back inside to her bedroom, and pondered if she should even keep her trophies either. They were more reminders of her cold self, even though they were technically the Banshees team's trophies.
That didn't help.
She had to find something to keep herself distracted before she entered another fit of anger, so she went to the only thing she'd commonly do if she was bored. Penstagram.
So she took her boots off and began to relax on her bed, resting her back against her large pillow and pulling out her scroll to see what was going on. Sometimes, small actions taken is enough to add a settling nature to one person. The last time she checked it, she was saddened to find her old friends had blocked her to prevent anymore interactions.
And that was still the case.
When she went to Amelia's profile, it always came up with a notification telling her she was blocked, thus unable to view any of her posts.
The same thing happened with Cat's profile.
And Amity's.
And Skara's...
Boscha couldn't take this displeasure anymore. Everytime she was on her own, misery was flying at her at a rapid pace, hardly showing signs of stopping. She made her scroll disappear, and turned towards the wall in a crumbled position. Even just staring at a wall might've been more tolerable than looking to find virtually nothing to do on Penstagram.
The scariest part about this is, she never saw it coming before all the events that unfolded. She figured she'd be completely off the hook in maintaining the same position she had been for the last few years when her bullying side came into place. Being a spoiled kid can do that to a person, and Boscha thought she had it all.
But if she didn't act fast, this could potentially be the life she has to live with until it's over. Being looked down upon by everyone she knew, with only her parents to keep that amount of love going.
Otherise, Boscha was extremely depressed. And for a fifteen year old child, it's not a good sign.
The confidence to make things right was still there. What about actually going up to her old friends and saying she was sorry? Would they even be willing to talk to her about all of this? Would they even be willing to look at her for all she's worth?
It was all a leap of faith.
However, Boscha knew there was a surefire way to let her friends know what she wanted to say without saying anything. It might be considered vandalism, but it's always the safest bet when you're afraid to talk to someone.
Write a letter.
In a haste, Boscha got up from her comfortable rest and left her room for the kitchen. Grabbing a piece of paper and writing equipment, she plonked herself down at the kitchen table and started to write down a message. It wasn't going to be a long one. Simple words are all she needs to get her message across.
And she wrote it down, hopeful this would work.
She can't stay lonely forever.
The next day at Hexside felt a little scary for Boscha. When she arrived, she noticed that Luz and Amity weren't anywhere to be seen. Reasons she couldn't exactly figure out, it knew that she'd be the talk of the school for now. Indeed, people were still talking about her from what she heard passing by.
This time though, she chose to ignore it and proceed onward with her classrooms. She made sure she still had her note in her bag, and definitely made sure her locker didn't try to eat what she spent a time of yesterday putting down. "Just get through the day, and hopefully you'll do what you need to do." she whispered to herself. Call her crazy, at least it helped her stay focused. A familiar voice echoed through her head, the same way it did for the last few days.
Just get through it. Just get through it.
"Well, looks like someone hasn't changed much, have they?" A voice came from behind. Boscha turned around to see that it was Gus, leaning against a locker with an unamused expression.
Boscha was not about to deal with more scorn from Willow's friends, not right now. "Look kid, I'm not trying to stir up any trouble. Just leave me alone."
"Really? Because from your own perspective, now it seems like most of the school won't stop talking about you. Look at that, someone went from high heels to rock bottom."
"Seriously, can you stop? Please?" Boscha asked in return. She didn't want to get angry, since Gus had no idea what kind of things she was doing. "Look, why don't you go hang out with Willow, or something?"
"I can't, I'm off to my class." Gus snickered. Did she even hear the bell shrieking before?
Even Boscha had to admit, that was a little dumb thing for her to say. But strangely, it was so stupid and beyond what she was even planning, that it started to make her laugh.
Gus was surprised to see her laughing like this. Usually it was out of spite, but it sounded genuine.
"Okay, I'll give you that. That was pretty stupid of me to say." Boscha said once she calmed down.
"Wow..." Gus was still in shock from her genuine attitude. "You sure you're not some kind of twin sister or something? Because I don't think I've ever heard you sound so genuine before."
"Well, what did you expect?" Boscha replied, feeling a little shy. "I did some stupid things, and I want to do a turn-around. Shake some things up, ya know?"
Gus felt even more surprised after hearing that. "Are you joking?"
"No, I'm not." Boscha replied, before she could overhear the Potions teacher calling to her from nearby. "Look I need to get to class, for real this time." A small nose laugh escaped after she said that, and turned around to head towards her class.
That... had to have been illusion, right? That was the first train of thought Gus felt when she left. Then again, he was a master at illusions magic, so maybe it wasn't a dream. Boscha was really being that genuine to him? Without struggle?
Maybe this experience had left a difference for a lot of different people.
After what felt like hours passed by, the school bell shrieked, and it was time for everyone to head to the cafeteria for lunch. Normally the tables would have a set group of people sitting at it to keep each other company or usually to maintain their position in that table for as long as they attended Hexside.
The table on Boscha's end was empty, until she was the only one who came up to it to eat her lunch. The constant chattering surrounding the cafeteria was haunting her like the plague. She couldn't drown it out, no matter how much she wanted to. Hopefully by the end of the day, this would be the last time she'd have to be this lonely at school.
In the meantime, her eyes took note of the area. She wanted to see where any of her old friends might've been, despite Amity not being present for the day.
Cat and Amelia were over with Willow at her table with Gus.
They looked like they were having an amazing time.
Laughing, teasing, and shoving each other when the time called for it, Boscha could barely remember the last time she saw her friends looking this happy. It made her beg the question, was it going to be worth getting them back?
Would that make them feel comfortable at all?
Before she thought any further on that, Boscha noticed something that enforced her to eat her lunch.
Skara was at another table.
She was lonely too?
Boscha figured that Skara would've been with that boy she went out with at Grom, but he was nowhere to be seen in the cafeteria. Chances are he might've been either sick or taking the day off for his own needs.
Either way, she looked unusually unhappy.
There was a shining chance that maybe, just maybe, an open talk with Skara could convince her that Boscha still cares about her, and wants her to get better for her well being.
She was still scared to do so however.
But on the bright side, Boscha still had the letter she was going to give out. And now seemed like the perfect time to do so, even though school hadn't ended yet. Once she wolfed on her lunch, Boscha sprinted out of the cafeteria and down to where she wanted to find the locker.
Turns out it was Skara's that she wanted to find.
The lockers were always hard to guess by which they belonged to, but Boscha knew by heart that it was Skara's. Problem was that the lockers don't usually open their mouths unless it was their owners.
Boscha tried to give it a tickle, but it wouldn't open. Instead, it just hissed at her. "Come on, open up!" That didn't work either. The locker stayed zipped up no matter how hard Boscha tried to get it open.
"Please... open up..." Boscha panted. "I really want to give this note to my friend, and I'm too scared to talk to her myself. This'll be the only time, promise..." Lockers didn't have ears, but even still, it finally opened its mouth, revealing all the books and notes Skara had. Boscha read through her note to make sure it was looking good, and pressed it close to her heart before she put it in Skara's locker. It all came down to one final choice from Skara herself, and hopefully this would be the solution she needed.
The school bell shrieked, and Boscha quickly closed the locker's mouth before sprinting around the corner to see if Skara would show up. Here's hoping she doesn't suddenly sneak up behind her from another direction.
Luckily, Skara came from the direction Boscha was hoping. When she went to her locker and gave it a tickle, it opened.
And through her piles of books and photos, she saw Boscha's note.
It caught her attention, and she grabbed it. She knew she didn't have too much time to read it, but it had her name on it, and she needed to see what was written down. So she unravelled it.
And she began to read.
Skara,
I know that a lot of bad things have been happening with you and I recently, and I wish I had the words to confidently come up to you and say them myself. But I'm scared of how you'll react to it, so forgive me for this note.
If you're willing to, you don't have to accept it, but if you can... Can you meet up with me at the Treasure Shack after school? I wanted to have a talk to you about how I've been behaving.
I want to make things right with you, and our friends. I want you to know how much I regret my actions. I want you to know how sorry I am.
Please consider it.
-Boscha
Skara stared at the last words for a while. She couldn't even believe what she was reading. She almost swore she'd never be able to see Boscha again after what happened at the festival, and it made it all the more shocking that she actually sent her a note.
She had no idea how to respond to this, and her face was still in surprise by what she read. Her reaction could've spelt any answer for Boscha, but it didn't seem like an answer was being properly shown off. What kind of answer was Boscha meant to convey from that? Yes? No? Unsure of it? Skara quickly glanced both ways to see who was looking, causing Boscha to hide completely.
When she turned back to the note she read, a sigh left her lips, and she put the note in her pocket before closing her locker's mouth and walking away. Again, impossible to guess an answer from that reaction.
Well there's only one way to find out.
Walking up to the Treasure Shack felt very scary for Boscha. It was the first time she had been there since the day of the festival, when she and Skara were talking about whether or not they should go with their friends. She wished she hadn't have gone, she wished she hadn't have let those events unfold, but she was too blinded by anger to realise until recently.
Sometimes Boscha had to ask herself, was she even that smart of a person? Sure she got a lot of good grades in Hexside, yet it seemed like she was an internally childish person. Almost like she really didn't grow up, like Amity said that one time.
Now, more than ever, did she really want to grow up and accept the changes in her life, but would this ever benefit her friends? Titan knows if they'd even feel comfortable to come back into her life.
Skara got the note, but an answer wasn't shown properly. The only thing Boscha could do was wait and see if she would show up here.
It wouldn't be a surprise if she didn't.
Soon, the Treasure Shack came into view. It still looked unfinished, almost a mess even. Perhaps it was emblematic of Boscha's emotional state right now.
A total mess.
She walked up to the door and opened it, surrounded by darkness and closed curtains. It almost felt like what Boscha would come home to in her bedroom every day after school. Now was the good time to open them up and let the sun shine through.
She wished she hadn't done it. As soon as light was coming through the shack, Boscha was greeted by numbers of photos on the bookshelves they had. Photos of her and her friends, hanging out and having fun together. Seemed more like fake fun now. It was like Amity had experienced, she only pretended to like her friends and have fun, it was never genuine.
Much like how Boscha was never genuine.
There was no point in pouting. She had to focus if Skara ever decided to show up. Looking so gloom and doom could give her miscommunication that she's faking whatever she has to say.
If she ever showed up.
Boscha took a seat on one of the beanbags she had made with Skara. Even she had to admit, the craft work the two managed to do with their own four hands was impressive to say the least. All the bookshelves, beanbags, and even food storage was something that would take weeks to do by professionals. And Boscha and Skara got them done in just a few days. Granted it was rough, and unfinished, but the effort is there.
It's almost insane what Boscha could do when she wasn't so focused on being top student. It's almost as if she was a different person.
"Boscha?"
Speaking of different person, there really was one at the door.
Skara arrived.
Boscha was completely thrown off by her appearance. She had to pinch herself to make sure she wasn't dreaming, but Skara actually decided to show up? Knowing what happened before they stopped being friends and whatnot?
She only had one word to respond with.
"Hey..."
"Hey." Skara replied with the same word. There wasn't much happiness in her tone, but at least she didn't sound angry. Just neutral.
She walked over to a beanbag in front of Boscha, and slowly took a seat. The two were almost about to shake hands, but they hesitated and pulled away. Both felt nervous over what to say to each other.
"So..." Boscha paused with nearly every word she said. Any wrong move could ruin the whole thing. "It's... honestly really good to see you again after, such a long time."
"Yeah... I guess I can say the same thing about you..." There was some hesitation in Skara's delivery, almost like she wasn't sounding like she meant it.
Boscha's heart began to race fast, but she needed to keep her cool. "How... how have you been?"
"I've... been fine. I'm not great, but I'm fine."
"Cool... cool..." Boscha slumped back on what she was thinking of saying. Skara wasn't sounding too happy, so maybe now was a good time to say what she needed to say. "Look, Skara, I know at this point in time, it's really hard for you to see me and even look at me the same way that you used to, and I don't blame you."
"Good, you shouldn't blame me." Skara replied quietly. "With all the times I tried to help you and make you realise what you were doing was bad, it felt like a huge waste of time in the long term. Call me an idiot for not pulling back sooner."
This was not going to be an easy discussion.
"I know I've done stupid things as well, but I never thought it would've led to me having such a negative impact on so many people at Hexside. I mean, once you become part of a crowd you think you can improve on, it feels like your social status is ruined..."
"Social status...?" Boscha asked quietly.
"I guess in this day and age, people at Hexside want to steer clear from bullies, let alone people associated with bullies." Skara sighed.
"Don't say that Skara," Boscha replied. "You're not a bully."
"Yes I was, Boscha!" Skara's tone suddenly started to sound more irritated. "And who's fault do you think that is?!" Boscha glanced down briefly, sensing guilt in her system. "Ever since I became friends with you, I thought you were one of the coolest people I'd ever met! Even when you were being a jerk, I thought you were a cool person when you were just having fun with your friends!" Skara took a moment to breathe. "Or do you even thought we were friends back then? Did you just use us for your own personal gain?!" Before Boscha could even respond, Skara wouldn't stop. "Well it doesn't matter now, because your bad influence caused others to stay away from me!"
Boscha gasped from those last words, and Skara realised how angry she was beginning to get. She panted to calm herself down, and sat in her beanbag again, taking on a calmer tone. "And... everyone thought I was a bad person too... Like I said, people at Hexside want to steer clear from bullies, let alone people associated with bullies..."
This was terrifying. Terrifying in a sense Boscha never felt before. It seemed like even after Skara stopped being friends with her, she was still getting a cold eye from other people, in spite of Amelia and Cat still being her friends.
"Skara, I didn't know..."
"Of course you didn't know!" Skara's upset tone began again. "You were too caught up in being a top student, and stuck to your guns no matter what other things your friends were doing or WANTED to do with you! You never cared what the teachers said about you, you can't let anyone get some attention for themselves, and I thought I could've changed you for the better, but I was an idiot to think that! I don't know why I did it, but I wish I hadn't!"
Every comment from Skara was like arrows were getting jabbed into Boscha's heart and brain. She struggled even more on how to respond to what her old friend was telling her.
And she was struggling to keep herself together.
But Skara was not done. "Heck, even when we were friends, you still seemed like the absolute worst person! Remember when I suffered a leg injury during last year's Grudgby season?! Yeah, you didn't seem too bothered by that when you were too focused on trying to beat the Glandus team!" That one hurt Boscha now. "You were more focused on a stupid game than your own friend! Your own friend who can't even give you a birthday invitation properly without you complaining that it's molting!" Skara sounded like she could hardly breathe. "All because the idiot within me didn't realise how much of a miserable person you are!"
"I'm sorry... I'm so, so, sorry..."
That caught Skara off.
"What?"
"I'm sorry, Skara!" Boscha cried. All that build up was causing her to lose herself in tone. "I'm sorry for everything I ever did to you! I'm sorry I pushed you away when you were only trying to help! I'm sorry I neglected your feelings! I'm... I'm... I'm sorry for BEING IN YOUR LIFE!"
Skara gasped.
She watched as her old friend curled her head into her knees, and sounded like she was about to cry. She never saw Boscha cry, unless it was over something petty. Was she really on the verge of tears because she felt bad for what she did?
Or was she just plain miserable without her friends?
Either way, Skara needed to put her best intentions forward. She put her hand on Boscha's hair, and lifted her eyes up to meet her's. "Boscha, do you really mean it? Are you sure you're not just saying that to get me to feel sorry for you?"
She silently shook her head sideways. Skara sat back down.
"Wow... okay."
"Sorry..." Boscha spoke at last. "I kinda went over the line there..." She rubbed her eyes to dispose of her waterworks.
"No it's fine... But, do you actually feel bad?"
"Yes!" She said that almost without hesitation. She curled up again, but didn't have any waterworks. "Skara, when you guys left my life, I finally realised all the stupid things I did. I was so caught up in the status of being number one, that I didn't take time to consider everyone's feelings. I just thought, if I kept being strong and stiff, then I'd be within that zone." She took a moment to breathe before starting again. "Except, that wasn't the case. I wouldn't have felt so miserable if you guys stayed with me. And it's my fault for doing this to you... I deserved this miserable life..."
Hearing what Boscha just said caused Skara to freeze for a while. Hearing something that for once in a long time actually felt genuine, caring, and thoughtful, Skara could barely comprehend on what to say.
At the same time though, she needed to keep her walls up. She may not want to risk the trauma that this whole situation caused her again, but she can at least be more open about it.
"Boscha, my life hasn't been the best either recently..."
"But how could it be? You've still got Amelia. Don't you have that guy you went to Grom with?"
"Darvyn? We broke up." Skara said it as bluntly as possible, causing Boscha to jump in surprise. "Ever since he learned I was part of your group, he wanted to distance himself from me."
Boscha didn't care if that was some kind of insult, that was just sad. She didn't know the amount of damage she caused until the worst possible time. After distancing herself from her friends, they still got into beef thanks to her.
Maybe she could try to fix it up.
"Skara, I know I've said it a million times at this point, but I really am sorry for everything I've done to you. And... if I'm willing to make a change, could you consider our friendship again?" Boscha tried to smile when she finished her sentence.
Taking it all in, Skara thought about it. Boscha did sound genuine in all the things she said, however she may need to prove more that she actually feels bad for what she did. After all, saying sorry isn't all there is to redeeming a person. Even though Boscha cried in front of Skara's own eyes, that doesn't take all the convincing in the world.
She never could tell whether or not being Boscha's friend again would be a good thing.
And she simply had one answer. "I'll think about it."
That wasn't entirely the answer Boscha was hoping for, but at the very least it wasn't a 'no'. Though sometimes those words can mean it, in a less blunt and rude way.
Skara noticed the sun was setting, and turned back to Boscha. "I need to go home..." And with that, she got up from her beanbag and went for the door, opening it and slowly leaving the area. But not before she turned back to Boscha, who gave her a gentle wave, even if her expression wasn't very happy. Skara waved back, and started walking back home.
Today was nothing but mixed emotions. Boscha had confidence to get Skara's friendship back, and she simply left it up to whether or not she'll consider being her friend again. For all she knew, it could've meant either a yes or a no. But Boscha couldn't force an answer right away. It'll make it sound like she's caring more for herself, and not about Skara's privacy or safety.
Looks like she'll need to be patient.
As she reached in her pocket, she pulled out the gift she bought at the store thanks to Luz. She stroked it with her finger, and another sigh left her lips. She couldn't believe she forgot to give this to her crush.
She was right there a few seconds ago.
Skara was Boscha's crush this whole time.
And while it did disappoint her that she had her eyes on someone else, this isn't going to be about Boscha anymore. It's going to be about her friends. Although, Skara's comment about Darvyn came into her mind. Those two seemed so good for each other, and Boscha's presence seemed to cause a stir inbetween things.
In that case, if she's gonna be inbetween things, then she's gonna do it the best way she can this time.
So she can make Skara happy.
Darvyn was an experienced Beast Keeping student, who sure knew how to pull off a show. Some people can sometimes remember the stunt he pulled off during Grom for the sake of asking Skara out. He was really happy to be her partner, but things did indeed get rocky when he found out that Boscha was apart of her group.
He didn't want to let her be a negative influence on Skara, but she was still friends with her anyway. It drew them apart, and Darvyn thought he was probably better off without her. If Skara acts like a jerk thanks to Boscha, he didn't want to be next. And it ended up crushing Skara, despite her best intentions.
All of this could contribute to Darvyn looking like a selfish person, and to some extent he could be. But he also wanted to be a nice guy, and hanging out with a supposed mean girl wouldn't help with that.
At least things did go back to normal after they broke up.
That is, until Darvyn approached his locker to get ready for the day. When he opened it, he was surprised to find a note and a small box inside. While he wasn't concerned about the box, he opened the letter up to find something weird.
It seemed to be a map of the Hexside corridors, and it was telling him to go to a specific one by the end of the day, and give that box to someone special. His next opportunity for romance seemed to be coming soon. Perhaps someone had a crush on him?
Now he was excited.
And he patiently waited for the end of the school day to come.
When school was finally over, Darvyn made no hesitation to go to where the note told him to go. He grabbed the small box, but before he left, he decided to open it to see what it was, just to make sure this crusher wasn't pranked or anything.
It was a new pair of earrings, the kind a girl would love to wear. That made Darvyn feel pretty confident, since he was straight after all.
So he made his way to the locker, simply dreaming of who it was he was going to meet. Perhaps it would've been a beautiful student at a top grade level.
Maybe one that wasn't a mean girl like Skara supposedly is?
Yet Skara was the last person he imagined to be there. He was at her locker.
"Skara?"
The Bard girl jumped in surprise, and was even more surprised to see Darvyn standing face to face with her. "Darvyn? What are you doing at my locker?"
"Uhh... I was told to meet you here... I got this weird note." He explained, despite not showing her the note he read.
"I didn't write that!" Skara exclaimed nervously. "I don't know who did!"
"I don't know who did either." Darvyn was trying his best to keep his cool, but it isn't easy when your ex girlfriend is standing right in front of you. "This was just a bit of a mix up I guess."
"Well, now that you're here, I wanted to ask... how's things going for you?" Skara asked innocently.
As the two exes were having their talk, they were both unaware that someone was around the corner spying on them. That someone actually being the person who set this thing up in hopes Skara could reconnect with her crush again. Boscha had to admit, they looked pretty cute together. It was best for Skara anyway, regardless of how badly Boscha wanted to be her friend again, or even how much of a crush she had.
"Oh you know, back to the way things used to be. A little boring at school, but it's still what I expected." said Darvyn. "What about you?"
"I'm... okay." Skara replied. "I've been trying to be more independant recently, just kind of sticking to it and not letting others tell me how to behave and whatnot." She smiled nervously. "If that's good enough for you?"
"Yeah, that's nice."
Boscha smiled in hopes that they'd reconnect. Darvyn looked pretty convinced that Skara was someone he could trust and love comfortably, and her work could be done for her old friend.
"Look Skara, it was nice to see you again, but I should probably head home now." He said in a low tone. He didn't want to stick around and make things weird for them again, when he already had his goal set in stone, to steer away from Skara despite what she said. He began to turn around, and didn't even bother looking back to his ex.
Skara was persistent though, and she made sure to come up to him before he could even run off.
This was her chance.
"Darvyn, wait! Listen, I know we had to break up because of reasons... But I want you to know that I fly solo from now on. I'm not gonna let someone's influence rub off on me and change me from who I am." Skara tried to smile for his empathy. "I've been working hard to be a kinder person, and I have some new cooler friends! I'm friends with Luz and Amity now, and you know how cute and nice they are!"
Boscha was caught by surprise. Skara is friends with Luz now? And Amity actually likes hanging out with her this time? The Boscha from weeks ago would've beenn infuriated by what she just heard.
This is the new and improved Boscha now, and she was just fine with this discovery, even smiling from it.
"Good for you, Skara."
The Bard girl continued with her speech. "And I'm still that same Grom loving dork you fell in love with. I really liked being your girlfriend, so uhh..." She paused for a moment to clear her thoughts, and just went for it. "Can we give this another shot?"
Boscha's fingers were crossed, praying to Titan that Darvyn would say yes and Skara could maybe have some confidence again from someone she cared about very much.
It wasn't Boscha, but it was good enough.
But Darvyn didn't look too happy. Sweat was pouring down his side, almost like he was trying his hardest to get out of that situation. What more can he say when he was led to his ex's locker, thinking it would be another cute girl?
Another cute girl!
He found a way out of it, and he wouldn't even need to say the word to make her feel bad.
"Sorry Skara, I'm taken."
After the delivery of those four words, all the confidence and excitement that Skara had built up in her body just faded away like that. Boscha noticed too, but she knew this was a fib. If Darvyn had another girlfriend, why would he willingly come to this locker because he was promised another girl?
You dirty liar!
"Yeah, what I was gonna tell you was I was completely weirded out by why I was told to come here when I already have another girlfriend. But I guess if it makes you feel better, you can have this." He pulled out the small box from his pocket and handed it to Skara. "I didn't get it, but you can have them." He quickly blurted before he ran off.
"Darvyn!"
The Beast Keeping boy had already left the scene.
Skara felt heartbroken. This was her first time seeing Darvyn after they broke up, had her big chance to patch things up with their relationship.
And he was taken.
It seemed like things wouldn't change for Skara, even after what happened yesterday.
Boscha, in particular, was most livid about this. She knew Darvyn was lying, and she knew he was too much of a selfish coward to consider the options he was given. And until she realised it, she growled fairly quietly in frustration.
But that caught Skara's attention. She swiftly turned around and noticed Boscha hiding behind the corner. She tried to hide, but it was too late.
Miscommunication was not in her favour.
Now Skara was angry.
"BOSCHA!" She shouted, storming around the corner to see the girl. "Did you set that whole thing up?!"
Deja vu. Something Boscha hated seeing when it reminded her of something bad that happened in the past. The last time Skara seemed this angry was when they decided to stop being friends at the festival.
She really didn't want her efforts to make ammends with Skara go to waste. "Yes, I did... But I can explain!"
"What, were you doing this as some kind of sick joke?! That you thought it would be funny to send Darvyn to my locker only for him to tell me that he's taken?!" There was noticeable cracks in Skara's voice.
Boscha tried her hardest to explain her reasonings. "I was-!"
But Skara wasn't about to have it. "Are you trying to make me feel sad so you can come along and cheer me up?!"
"No!"
"Then what?! What made you decide to set us up other than to have Darvyn break my heart?!"
"I WAS TRYING TO GET YOU AND DARVYN BACK TOGETHER!"
Even though Skara was angry, it did cause her to miss certain reasonings as to why and how this situation was set up. Perhaps it was her negative impressions from Boscha that led her to believe that she was doing the worst just to come along as some sort of hero. But after that talk from yesterday, why would Boscha want to throw her efforts away?
Skara could swear she was in a complete mood whiplash. First she was happy, then sad, then angry, now... surprised.
"What...?"
Boscha realised she got Skara to stop talking. This was her chance to prove herself innocent. "Skara, I took in mind what you told me yesterday, and you were right this whole time. I've left a nasty impact on your life, and I didn't realise it until recently that I did a lot of damage. I wanted you to be my friend again, but I didn't want to force you to if it was gonna make you unhappy." Boscha swore that took a lot of effort to say, since she could've very much stayed in her current lifestyle of being alone without any friends. This wasn't about her though. "So I wanted to set you up with Darvyn again, because..."
She gently put her hands on her friend's shoulders. "Skara, I don't care if you don't forgive me. I just want you to be happy. This isn't about me anymore, it's about you."
Skara couldn't believe what she was even hearing. The same genuine Boscha from yesterday, now explaining that none of this is about her. For once in her life, she actually cared about someone else other than herself. And when she looked at the box, she realised a shocking twist.
She opened it, and saw two golden earrings, sitting in perfection, reflecting her face off of the glass. "And... you even got those earrings? Were they originally for me?"
Boscha realised Skara was onto her, and her face started to heat up. She wanted her to know she cared about her, not that she literally had a crush on her!
But Skara didn't deserve a lie. She was too innocent for that, especially after Darvyn's.
"Skara... I originally was gonna give those to you myself. Yesterday, actually... But I didn't want you to think I was trying to bribe you into being my friend, so I made sure Darvyn gave them to you." Boscha paused to breathe, then continued. "Like I said, this isn't about me anymore. It's about you."
Skara could barely comprehend on what to say.
Ever since she stopped being friends with Boscha, she almost swore she'd never be able to see her again. The girl used to be so caught up in being the top student that she could've literally replaced her own friends if she wanted to. All the trial and error of getting through to her felt like it would never pay off.
That changed at this very moment.
Boscha is someone who could've easily walked away, and she has done so before with Amity.
This made Skara see that, in a shocking turn of events... she mattered to her. It happened in the strangest way she'd ever imagined. Skara's felt a lot of weird feelings ever since the festival. Yesterday, she didn't even try getting through to her that well given past circumstances. She thought it would be a miracle if Boscha cared as well.
And now, she is.
Skara's heart was racing, and she could almost feel herself sweating. Boscha actually cared about Skara, enough to try and get her date back, regardless if she'd consider her a friend again or not. She still did it to make her happy, and show that she cares about others rather than just herself.
The feeling was weird for a reason. Skara wanted to find someone to feel closer to when she left the festival not long ago, and thought Darvyn was a good bet. Yet, despite not earning his affection back, Skara had a completely different weird feeling.
And it was making her happy.
She looked like she was about to cry.
Suddenly though, Skara's thoughts came to a complete halt. Nothing else came into her mind, and not a thought showed if Skara even considered being Boscha's friend again. She took it to this new level she never had before.
Now it was Skara's time to do it too.
Then everything came to a blur.
Skara didn't want to care about Darvyn anymore, because he didn't seem to care either.
Boscha cares.
And in that exact moment, Skara was kissing her.
She didn't want to be her friend anymore. She wanted to be her girlfriend. This was technically Skara's first kiss, as even when she was dating Darvyn, they only came close to kissing just once.
This new feeling was so magical for her, and she didn't care what people were going to say when she was feeling so happy.
But eventually, Skara's mind did come back into process, and she realised exactly what she just did. Quickly breaking from the kiss, Skara's face started heating up, especially when she saw the look on Boscha's face.
Her eyes were wide, and she was breathing so heavily she could almost pass out if she tried. Her literal crush just KISSED her.
A panic was coming into Skara. "I-I-I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to do that! I was just..." She pondered on what to even say. Then she began to stutter, which Boscha finally took notice of. Between the two girls, she was definitely the more reserved one in a situation like this. Sure she could get angry, but beyond that, she knew when to keep her cool, even after an unexpected kiss.
When the calm vibe settled in, Boscha was starting to look happy too. Skara was still a stuttering and blushing mess, and didn't even take notice of her.
"I was just so in the moment! Can we just forget that even-?!"
Boscha gently put both hands on Skara's shoulders, enough to finally get her to shut up for a minute. She looked towards Boscha, still feeling a tinge of shock in her body.
The calming smile was good to help though.
"Hey..." Boscha said in a soothing tone, which also helped Skara to calm down. "I'm free."
Those last two words may have caused Skara to stop blushing, but only because she wasn't feeling embarrassed anymore. It was almost crazy to her everything that happened in the span of a few days. She was so stuck in a position without Darvyn as her partner, and thought it best to stay away from Boscha to help. The same girl she crushed on for years. And not only did she try to make up for her mistakes, but she set her up to make her happy.
Skara was happy. Happy to be with Boscha. The tears that she started to get in her eyes was emblematic of it.
Without a care who might've seen what just happened, Skara leaned forward and engaged in another kiss with her new girlfriend. This time it wasn't sudden or forced, and it allowed the two girls to settle in their little moment. Part one of Boscha's journey had been completed. It may not have been what she was expecting, but it was a welcome surprise.
No words were said in regards to forgiving Boscha, but she knew this was the only answer she needed.
It made her all the more joyful.
Can't wait to show more of the new lovebirds! Stay tuned for Chapter 5!
