Season 2 ended nearly a month ago and I'm already dreading the hiatus. Oh well, for now all we can do is wait and anticipate the release of Season 2B. Again, I apologise for the wait between this and Chapter 4, but I recently had my second COVID-19 pfizer vaccine and it destroyed my body. I'm okay now, and I needed to get this out. It's not as long as the last four chapters, but that's because Chapter 6 will be a long one. :D
I also realise I'm posting this chapter on the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, and wish to take this time to offer my support to those reading this story that were impacted by the attacks that day. Stay safe, stay strong, and stay supportive. Never forget.
Anyway, on with Chapter 5! I own NOTHING from The Owl House.
Today had only been Skara's second visit to the Treasure Shack for a while, but this time around she just couldn't help herself. She was way too happy not to do so! Boscha proved to her that she did care about her, was willing to change, and more importantly, loved her! There was almost nothing but lovely fluff coming from the shack that. Everytime they stopped talking, it was a constant barrage of kisses, which Skara did for what felt like the twentieth time today.
"Come on, another one?" Boscha asked as Skara had a grip on her uniform's hood. The two were snuggled up on a beanbag, even if there wasn't much room to move.
"Please?" Skara asked innocently. Her adorable smile was irresistable, with Boscha making another move and kissing her. Her protests didn't matter, because she was more than eager to kiss Skara everytime. She was so lucky that this wasn't a dream! She finally got her oldest friend back, and a girlfriend at the same time!
It was the happiest Boscha had ever felt in ages.
Skara held onto her kiss for half a minute, before she broke with a tingle down her spine. "Wow, you're such a great kisser, Boscha. I never thought we'd get like this."
"I'm kinda surprised myself, but oh well." Boscha snorted. "But not as surprised as when you kissed me first back at Hexside. I don't even know how many people were watching us."
"I could care less!" Skara said happily. "It was a magical moment! Something I never thought would actually happen!"
"What do you mean by that?"
"Can I tell you a tiny secret?" Skara asked, giggling a little bit. "I kinda used to have a crush on you for a long time before I met Darvyn."
"Really?!" Boscha replied in shock. She couldn't believe what she was actually hearing, considering she thought it was crazy that she had a crush on her fairly recently. "I started getting a crush on you too! When did this start?"
"It kinda started years ago when we were kids. I thought you were such an awesome girl, but since you used to be pretty caught up in your social status, I thought it wouldn't go anywhere too drastic." Skara cuddled up to her. "But now look where we are!"
"Yeah, I know," Boscha smiled. "I thought it would've been impossible too, considering what happened before."
"That's true too, but now you and I can forget about that and be glad with what we have now." Skara pressed her finger against Boscha's lips, not hesitating for yet another kiss afterwards. She wasn't wrong, it seemed almost impossible for all of this to happen given past events. Thanks to a change of heart, Boscha earned back her first friend both times.
But she still had a long way to go before she would be truly forgiven by her other friends.
Suddenly, a memory flashed into her mind.
It's bad enough you lied to me, but now you think I'M THE LOSER HERE?! Have you seen how much people adore me during Grudgby?! How much people fear me! How much I show true strength compared to most of Hexside's pathetic students?! I GUESS NOT! So if you're gonna judge it that way, don't be surprised when you wake up the next morning and your social life is destroyed!
She turned away before Skara could score another kiss on her lips, catching her girlfriend's attention instantly. "Hey, what's wrong?"
"I was just... remembering what I said to Amelia before she stopped being friends with me." Boscha's voice spoke in a sad tone, and Skara could tell it wasn't pretty. "I said something along the lines of how people should adore me, and her social life was destroyed thanks to being with Willow."
"Ouch." Skara winced.
"Yeah." Boscha huffed. "I think she's going to be my next target to make ammends with."
"Do you need me to tell her how you've changed?"
"No thanks Skara. If you do that, she could assume I'm manipulating her into thinking I have changed. I doubt that would work."
"Oh, so what are you gonna do?" Skara leaned over to meet her girlfriend's eyes.
"I haven't worked that out yet, but maybe I can find a way to tell her how fine I am with whatever she chooses to do, whether that's to be Willow's friend or not." Boscha explained.
"That sounds like a good idea," Skara smiled. "Hey that reminds me, are you gonna try being friends with Willow now?"
Boscha's eyes shot up. She couldn't believe she hadn't considered the option of being friends with Willow ever since she changed her ways, perhaps being too focused on trying to rekindle her friendship with those who actually cared about her.
But maybe Willow deserved better than that. She shouldn't have to be friends with the same bully who picked on her tirelessly during the Grudgby season, and showing no care to her situation.
She deserved better than that, and she has better than that.
"I dunno..." Boscha sighed. "She's better off with better friends."
"Don't say that." Skara replied. "I doubt Willow would be the kind of person to hold a grudge against someone for what they did. Heck, I used to tease Willow a number of times before, but she still wanted to be my friend."
"Yeah but did you ever dump trash on her and tell her that's where it belonged?"
Skara had to admit, that could be viable reason. "Oh yeah..."
"Exactly. This isn't going to be easy."
"Well whatever you decide to do, I'm sure she'll be open to it." Skara wrapped her arms around Boscha. "It can't be any harder than trying to win me back, right?"
Looking at her innocent smile was enough to force some giggles from Boscha, and grinned back at her. "That's because you're a softie!" She barked, her fingers attacking Skara's exposed sides and forcing her into a fit of laughter. She could take some notes from how Luz did it to her.
"I'm not a softie!" Skara gasped between her laughter.
"You are for me." Boscha giggled, helping Skara back onto their beanbag and deciding to share another kiss. It only takes one course of love to make things easier for the two of them.
Boscha had to admit she was a bit of a softie as well.
As of today, it had been nearly three weeks since what happened at the festival. To Boscha, it seemed like it lasted for months on end, constantly going through trial and error to see where she'd get to. Waking up each morning and heading to Hexside felt like a nightmare for her. Everybody looking at her like she was the world's worst person, and giving her a hard time when she wasn't asking for it.
But today was starting off differently. In the longest time, Boscha had never felt so genuinely happy. Even during her last few months, the happiness felt more forced and meant to play against others that were annoyed from her. She still had a while to go before she'd get all her friends back, but she was already making good progress with Luz, and it soared yesterday.
Skara hadn't arrived at Hexside yet, but she knew she'd be showing up. For now, the class was more important to get to before the teacher could tell her off for being late again.
She didn't bother taking note of others looking at her, it seemed null and void to her.
No point in taking in the negativity when she knew she had done something good for once in a long time. Even though Skara picked her in the end, Boscha attempted to get Darvyn to like her again.
Although she might need to remember to teach him a lesson for cutting her new girlfriend down so badly.
Swiftly arriving in class, the teacher took note of Boscha's early arrival. "Ah, Boscha, surprised to see you arrive earlier than usual. Normally you're the last one to arrive."
"That's just what happens when you're in a good mood." Boscha replied.
"Well, take your seat. Class is beginning in a few minutes."
And that she did. Boscha went to the back of the room and took a seat at her usual table. She wasn't aware if Luz had a class today or not, or if she was still staying home to get Amity and her siblings used to their new home.
Thankfully, the human girl did arrive a few minutes later. "Morning teach!" She noticed Boscha had her eyes on her, and excitedly went to her table. "Hiiii Boscha! You're looking awfully happy this morning!"
"Is that really something new?" Boscha smirked.
"To me, kinda!" Luz took a seat next to her. "So why the big smile, eh? Did you give your present to your cruuuuuush?"
Luz's exaggerated smile rubbed off on Boscha, and she couldn't stop her lips from spreading across her mouth. Her face started turning red as well. She didn't even need to say anything, and Luz figured out an answer. "Did your crush accept it?!" Boscha quickly silenced her before she got too loud.
"Sort of," Boscha began. "She originally had a crush on someone else, before-"
"She?" Luz gasped. "Are you a lesbian?"
"Uhh, what's a lesbian?" Boscha's eyebrow raised in confusion. She never heard such a word before. "Is that some kind of human lingo?"
"A lesbian is a girl who likes other girls, so that must be you!"
"Well, honestly I kinda like all sorts of people, no matter what they are."
"So that makes you a pan!" Luz smiled.
Boscha stared in complete confusion, shaking her head before she got caught off track. "Anyway, she had a crush on this boy, but he wanted to see someone else. So I used my gift to set them up, and when she found out, she fell in love with me."
"Aww, how romantic! A classic relationship started by true love! Who was the girl?" Luz leaned closer, almost close enough to poke Boscha's nose with her own.
"You won't tell anyone, promise?" Luz simply gestured zipping her mouth shut, this time Boscha understanding the gesture. She breathed in quietly, and blurted it out.
"It's Skara."
In just a split second, Luz's eyes grew with shining circles. She gasped louder than before, and embraced Boscha in a tight squeeze. "Oh congratulations, Boscha! That means you and Skara made up!"
"Yeah..." Boscha blushed. "Kinda didn't expect her to kiss me so suddenly after what happened."
"SHE ALREADY KISSED YOU?!" Luz shouted, before being shushed again by Boscha. "That is incredible! I'm so happy for you guys! So wait, does this mean you're trying to earn your other friends back?!" Boscha simply nodded. "That's awesome! I should tell them and-!"
"NO!"
Luz abruptly paused when Boscha yelled.
"Please, don't. I need to take care of this myself." Boscha explained simply. "I need them to know that I myself am willing to change without you making them think you had a part in it."
"But Boscha, this doesn't have to be a big deal. My friends are fairly forgiving, I'm sure they'll forgive you when I tell them what you did. Maybe I'll even tell them that you saved me from the Blight parents!"
"And Amity?"
Hearing that name made Luz wince, given what happened a few days ago. Amity went all out on Boscha when they met each other, little to no hesitation being held from her lashing. Luz loves her, but even she had to admit she was glad she didn't show up today so she wouldn't have another act of rage against Boscha, especially after everything she had just heard about her reconnection with Skara.
She sunk down in her seat, fiddling her thumbs and thinking on how to respond to that. She wanted to tell her friends about this comeback, but part of her told her she needs to respect Boscha's privacy.
"Can... I at least tell Willow and Gus?"
Despite the whisper, Boscha heard her with all ears. Perhaps it was due to witches having bigger ears than humans, but she heard her regardless. While her immediate response was a no, part of her did want Willow to know how much she had changed in the last few days. And given the Grudgby match they had, Willow didn't seem like the kind of person to hold a grudge, regardless of what she said to her face to face.
With a sigh leaving her mouth, Boscha replied genuinely.
"Fine."
That was enough to give Luz some optimism again. She lifted her head up and turned to Boscha with an eager look. "So, tell me all about how you and Skara made up!"
Boscha's eyes darted towards the teacher, implying that it was time for class to begin. She could tell her about it afterwards before everyone left class. Luz was disappointed, but nontheless excited to hear the story.
Now promising to keep it a secret from everyone else.
Lunchtime began at Hexside, and students were beginning to leave their second classes. Unless it were Luz, who was rushing down the hallway, eager to see her friends and tell them all about what had happened during the Potions class. An eccentric girl like her could never keep what she learned inside her for long. Hearing what friends have to say makes it all the stronger.
And as soon as she arrived in the cafeteria, she spotted Willow and Gus at their usual table, to which she eagerly went over to. "Hey guys!"
"There she is!" Gus exclaimed, as the three got up to hug her. "Where's Amity?"
"Amity's staying home with Ed and Em today," Luz replied. "They just found out their parents have basically disowned them."
"That's horrible!" Willow gasped. "I hope they'll be okay."
"They'll be fine! They've got us to consider family now!" Luz smiled. "We decided to let them stay with us as long as they can!"
"Wow, Eda's really grown to accepting more kids in her house, huh?" Willow smirked.
"Yep, she's one of the best Moms ever! Well, she wanted to call Lilith the mom and herself the fun aunt. Anyway, have I got a story to tell you two!" She sat in front of them as they did the same.
"I'm all ears!" Gus replied.
"So, you guys know how Boscha kinda made a large scene for all of us a while back?" Luz began, but noticed Willow looking unamused by this talk. "Willow, it gets better I promise!"
"No offense Luz, but I doubt that." Willow blurted.
"So you doubt it when I tell you that Boscha had a change of heart?"
Willow's eyes shot up. She leaned forward, almost baffled by what she just heard. Boscha, the very same girl who relentlessly bullied her at wits end, calling her a piece of trash, and almost tried to kill Luz during Grudgby practise, had a change of heart?!
It seemed impossible enough when Amity did it, but she had hints of sincerity even before she turned into a colder person. Boscha was a whole other level of impossibility for Willow to comprehend.
"Please tell me you're joking."
"I'm not joking!" Luz smiled. "Would I ever lie to you two?"
"No." Gus replied. "And quite frankly, I do believe you."
"What?!" Willow asked.
"Yeah, I sort of started to tell that Boscha was changing into something else. When I saw her a few days ago in the hallway, she sounded..." He paused, trying to think of the proper word to describe how she was acting. "...genuine." Luz rested forward to hear more. "I made a quip about how she should be getting to class when she said she's doing her own thing... and then she just laughed at herself. Like, real laughter."
"Wow..." Luz awed.
"I can't believe this..." Willow said, flabbergasted over the whole ordeal.
"I can, and I believe Luz when she says Boscha might have a change of heart."
"Why won't you believe me, Willow?" Luz asked.
"Becuase this is Boscha we're talking about, Luz! Throughout my youth in seeing her, I never saw any level of decency in her. I know I'm not one to hold a grudge against someone, but I refuse to believe Boscha has changed. I don't want her to trick you into thinking she has, Luz. She'll get away with that no matter how hard or easy she tries to." Willow had to calm herself down before she got too fired up.
Luz had to reassure her best friend that she was being genuine. She placed her hand on Willow's, and gave her a look of sincerity. "Can you please let me explain the story?"
Willow sighed. "Fine."
"Okay..." Luz breathed in before she started. "It's time I told you two everything. After what happened at the festival, we know that Boiling Rains was starting to come down. I found Boscha in the forest, and she seemed lost. When I took her home with me to keep her safe, Lilith did some serious talking to her, and it actually caused her to cry! She's been so emotionally caught up in everything that she couldn't handle it anymore. She stayed the night, and we started to bond with each other. She thought, just maybe, she'd try harder to make genuine friends, and it seemed to pay off." Luz rested her head to the side and smiled. "And then after that, she thought it was time to start patching things up with her friends. She found out Skara wanted to get back together with that boy from Grom, but when that didn't work out, Skara realised the lengths she went through to get them together, that Skara forgived her for what she did... And then they got together!"
Willow swore her mouth was about to hit the table. "You're being serious about all of this?"
"I'm not joking." Luz was sounding sincere with her delivery. "Boscha had a crush on Skara, but she had to focus more on making her old friend happy. I guess Skara saw that she was willing to change, and fell in love."
"Dang..." Gus sniffled, wiping his tears away. "That hit me deep, Luz. That's beautiful!"
"I can't believe this, Luz..." Willow pondered on her words. Considering what happened over a week ago, Willow seriously needed to reconsider what she had told Boscha. Thinking she'd never succeed in earning her friends back, because she was never willing to apologise for what she did. How she seemed hesitant on changing things for the better.
Maybe she really held a worse grudge than she realised.
Then, she actually saw the three-eyed girl entering the cafeteria with Skara.
She was smiling, genuinely.
Skara had her arm wrapped around her, and seemed willing to kiss her, but not before Boscha beat to her to it, making the latter's face heat up. After some playful chuckles, they went to sit at a table by themselves.
Luz wasn't lying.
It seemed like Willow really was going to have to take back what she said.
"Now do you believe me, Willow?" Luz asked.
She simply nodded in response. "I'm sorry I doubted you, Luz." Although it still seemed hard to believe, Boscha really seemed different. Skara was with her again, they were genuinely enjoying each other's companies, and Luz sounded honest.
Now she was beginning to feel like the bully here.
"You okay, Willow?" Gus asked.
"Uhh, I'll be okay." Willow replied. "Thanks for telling me that, Luz."
"No problem." Luz smiled cheerfully. "I'm glad you two believed me."
While she was looking back at Boscha, Willow had a new mindset come into place. She could now see that Boscha was willing to change, and it seems to be paying off. She was wanting to get her friends back, in earnest ways.
But perhaps she deserved more than that. More than just old friends to help her. And she owed it to herself to make up for her comments.
Being Willow, she had a plan.
As Hexside classes were over and the school bell's shriek echoed through the halls, students started heading outside to go home. By the time Boscha and Skara came out, most other students were already gone. "Y'know, today felt a lot better than usual," Skara said first.
"I don't think it's too hard to see why." Boscha replied, poking Skara's nose.
"Yup!" Skara smiled. "So, what are you gonna go do now?"
"I think I'll just head home tonight. I think I need a rest after what's been going on for the last few days."
"You need me to come and keep you company?"
The Bard girl's optimism forced some giggles from Boscha's lips, but she politely declined. "No thanks Skara, you go home and do whatever you want. I'll see you tomorrow."
"See you then." Skara replied. "Oh, have you worked out what you're gonna do with Amelia and Cat?"
"Not yet, I'm still thinking about it. Quit nagging me." Boscha barked, tickling Skara's neck in the process.
"Sorry!" Skara laughed. "I'm just dying to know how this is gonna go down. Anyway, I'll leave you to it." She leaned in and planted a kiss on Boscha's lips before turning and waving behind her shoulder.
Boscha's smile formed into a dopey one once she got her kiss. She slightly waved to her departing girlfriend, before shifting gears and making her way back home.
Once her brain wired back into focus, she knew she had other priorities to focus on.
Her next step being to earn Amelia's trust back.
From the inside, Boscha knew Amelia would be a lot harder to make ammends with than Skara. After all, she wasn't the one who was told she was a pathetic soft person for hanging out with someone she hated. She wanted her to know that she's a strong compassionate person who deserved the attention of people who care.
It was crazy how quickly Boscha's mindset shifted when her journey began. What used to be a conflicted student morphed into a compassionate witch who earned the love of those she needed most.
Thanks to Luz, she knew how worthwhile it is to have genuine friends rather than typical 'Yes Men'. If only she realised that in the first place.
Once she arrived home, she figured her parents weren't around just yet. So she closed the door behind her and went to her room, getting out of her school clothes, kicking her boots off, and just taking it easy after everything she went through.
Her next thought was how exactly she was going to make ammends with Amelia.
Talking to Willow may not work, since she made it clear she wanted nothing to do with her.
Before she thought any further, she noticed a PM on her scroll.
Turned out that Skara had unblocked her on Penstagram, and sent her a friend request.
Boscha couldn't say no to that, obviously.
Then she got another PM.
From Amelia.
To the girl's surprise, Amelia had unblocked her on Penstagram as well. Without warning.
Why would she do that?
Her PM was attached with a message.
-Amelia, 3:54pm
Hey Boscha.
I never thought I'd be wanting to message you after what you did, but I thought about you. Thought about whether or not you'd bother to change and realise how much you screwed up! Anyways, Willow saw that you and Skara seem to be getting along, and she told me you're trying to make up for what you did. She was wondering if you wanted to accompany us in class tomorrow, kind of like a student showing other students their techniques thing?
If you really do have the heart, consider it!
3
Boscha stared blankly at the message. Spend a day with her and Willow tomorrow during their class?
Firstly, it seems impossible for her to cut her class just to see what others were doing. Her teacher would no doubt punish her for that fact alone.
Then again, Principal Bump recently said that students are now allowed to trial other tracks before they decide to join them. Maybe she could use that as a way to get in?
Either way, this was an open door to bringing Amelia back to her life.
Boscha eagerly sent a reply, short of thought.
-Boscha, 3:57pm
Sure! :D
Chapter 6 is where the fun starts.
