"But ultimately, it comes down to you. Are you able to forgive him?" Vanilla asked the young teen. Amy lightly gasped. Forgiveness? After what he said? If anything she feels like SHE doesn't feel worthy of forgiveness because deep down, she herself wants to say sorry for her behavior. This made her gasp even more, much deeper. This revealed how ultimately selfish she was. Instead of brushing it off, if be depressed for a bit, and get support from her friends to deal with her emotions, she chose to wallow in self-pity for a week and tried to kill herself just to stop both the pain and existential numbness. She even let Cream find her like that. Cream, a six year old girl who thought of her as a fun big sister. What kind of an inconsiderate person was she? Well, she found out after thinking about forgiveness. She looked over to Cream, a fresh wave of tears coming from her eyes.
"Oh Cream, I just realized how much I hurt you, have I? I probably scarred you for life. I'm so sorry that you had to see me like that." The two girls hugged each other, Cheese floating in to hug them both.
"It's okay Miss Amy. It was scary...but mommy will help me, and I still have you. I can't wait for when we can play together again." Even when she was crying, Amy did struggle to put a smile on her face, liking the idea. Vanilla also smiled, though she did keep something in mind. Once the girls got all of that out of their system, the pink hedgehog turned to Vanilla.
"Vanilla, please forgive me for traumatizing your sweet girl like this."
"It's okay Amy. I forgive you, but you still haven't answered my question. Are you able to forgive him?" Amy didn't answer for a few seconds, but she eventually did.
"I-I do. I was the one at fault and aggravating the situation. It's not like he screamed at me for no reason. Thinking about his words without a debilitating depression inside my head now, I did do a lot of things I wouldn't want myself if a boy chased me, and I don't want any of my friends to be threatened if it was a fan girl. Where is Sonic?"
"He ran off. Everyone but Cream, Tails and I left him for various reasons. Omega even prevented him from entering the hospital so he ran off."
"Oh no." Amy quivered in worry for him. "He needs to know that I want to forgive him."
"But how? How can we reach him since he's so fast?" Cream questioned.
"I think I know." Vanilla gently smirked. "Come on Cream, we have a bridge to rebuild." Gesturing her daughter to come to her, Cream said,
"Bye Miss Amy, I hope to see you soon!" Amy grinned and waved. Re-entering the waiting room, they found Rouge talking with Omega.
"Excuse me, Omega?" The rabbit mother asked the robot. It turned to her.
"Vanilla the Rabbit. What do you want?"
"I request that you and Rouge try to get in touch with Shadow if you can."
"And why should we do that? Shadow is likely on his Dark Rider blowing off steam." The female bat told her.
"Because Amy wants to forgive Sonic.
"Illogical. Why would Amy Rose want to forgive Sonic? He is the cause of her pain." Omega pointed out.
"It was not his intention. He'd never want one of his friends to kill themselves, and now that her head is clear to think, she acknowledges the whole mess was because of her from the beginning, and wants to say sorry for all the chasing and threats to him she made before now. All she wants is a second chance, to do things proper this time." Omega didn't say anything for it was computing, but finally it did say,
"Very well, I shall help reach for Shadow so he can tell Sonic this. New objective: Initiated." Omega then walked out of the waiting room. Rouge stayed though, and proceeded to roll her eyes.
"Of course she'd forgive him. He is her hero after all, even if the pedestal has been smashed down."
"That's not just it though." Vanilla told the bat thief. "It would also be important for him to forgive her, because if I'd had to guess, she believes that she doesn't deserve forgiveness. That she'd be better off that he continued keeping her away. But for their faults, I did think of them as friends. This shouldn't destroy that." Rouge crossed her arms.
"Hmph, how come you think you know about us so much anyway. I listen in from the vending machine of you explaining why Sonic's 'friends' beat him up, and now this. You weren't anywhere near our adventures." Vanilla laughed while winking.
"Amy tells Cream, and either I hear it first hand or Cream tells me after. And I hear from Tails as well when he plays with Cream. I know about you guys even though I'm not there." The bat in turn chuckled.
"Heh, so you have your own personal info lines. I must say, you made some good estimates on why Knuckles and Shadow did what they did. Alright, I let Shadow know too." And with that she left.
"Wow, you handled talking to them so cool like!" Tails praised. "It's like they didn't intimidate you at all!" Vanilla giggled from his kind words.
"Why should I? If someone is a friend of Sonic's, then there's no reason to fear them."
"Hehe, Mommy's so great." Cream laughed.
After 2 1/2 weeks into Amy's recovery, of which she's regained her color and long ago could walk without assistance, she was playing some teatime with Cream while Tails was fixing a toaster for Vanilla. Fast incoming footsteps could be heard, and they all turned that it was Sonic the Hedgehog. As he came closer he seemed to be running slower as well. Amy stood up while Tails took off his goggles, his mouth gaping. Once the blue blur came to a stop on the Rabbit home, it was clear that he was nervous.
"He-hey guys." He greeted with his eyes aimed away.
"Sonic!" Tails ran and jumped onto him, Sonic managing to catch him with a grunt. "I've missed you so much! Where have you been?!" Sonic awkwardly chuckled as he ruffled the fox's hair.
"Good to see you too bud. I was just running around, nowhere specific. I just needed time is all." Looking up, he gazed towards Amy, who had unreadable eyes and a straight mouth so it was hard to gauge what to guess how she was feeling. He then looked down at her wrists which were still covered in bandages, increasing his guilt.
"Hey."
"Hi." She replied back, practically no emotion.
"Alright, let's get this resolved. Let's sit at the tea table." Gesturing everyone to sit at the table, the young kids sitting on small chairs while Vanilla sat on her legs with Cream on her lap. "So, we all know why you came back Sonic. But let us recap what needs to be said. Sonic, you told Amy that all she does is chase you around incessantly, chase you to be the hero's girlfriend, she's too young, didn't take your feelings into consideration, threaten you with violence, that the way she acted meant you weren't really friends and that her fantasies were pointless. While you had every right to point those things out since they were making you increasingly uncomfortable, the way you handled it was...excessive to say the least. I believe that any argument that needs to be made can be done in a calm, respectful and civilized manner so that an understanding can be met." Then she turned to Amy.
"Amy, you have come to realize that these accusations, as harsh as they were delivered, had truth to them. You ultimately came around to see that you were, admittedly, self-centered and had way too high of expectations on how Sonic should act because he saved you when you were eight. Now, most girls your age dream about being saved by their night in shining armor, and having that dream dashed can make it feel like the end of the world. But as you've come to learn, you still have friends who care for you. "She then petted Cream who hummed in a pleased way." I'm proud that you have been trying to overcome these faults so that you can be a better person. I've said my part. What would you two like to say?" Sonic and Amy locked eyes, and she went first.
"Sonic, I'm sorry I didn't treat you like a person with his own wants and needs. I put you on a pedestal, and I got irritated when you didn't act like it. But you're not just my Sonic the Hedgehog's, you're everyone's. If you can't forgive me, I understand. I just wanted to say I'm sorry for what I did."
"I'm sorry too Amy." He replied. "I reacted way too strongly. Just because I was about fed up with you didn't make it right to throw our friendship back into your face. I did like hanging with you when you weren't brandishing your hammer at me, and you're a great comrade to fight Eggman with. I'd be willing to start over, so that we can be actual friends again." He offered her his right hand. Amy stared at it for a few seconds before lightly grinning and taking it.
"I'd like that."
"Yay! You two are friends again! Let's play together now!" Cream cheered joyfully.
"Chao!" Cheese agreed.
"Alright, anything for you Cream." Sonic chuckled. Vanilla smiled. Even though Sonic still has some things he needs to do before everything is better, but these things take time.
A/N: Well, that's the end of this. My next Sonic story will be much lighter than this. Thank you for reading, and if you have any criticisms on how this story went overall, tell me what I did wrong in a way that will help me improve instead of just saying I did wrong because I wrote badly. This is the first time that I've written a story like this so it's mainly inexperience that may have besmirched the quality of the story for you. Thanks for reading.
