A/N: Well, it's about time we had a sequel. Alright, so for those that are new or need a reminder, this is the continuation of my prior Pokémon story, Ash B&W, where instead of Ash, we will focus on Nate. Since I have a penchant of assigning VA last names to the characters, Nate will be surnamed Wayland. However, since I personally think Schemmel doesn't really fit Hugh, I shall give him a new one. And since I have a running gag in mind whenever he meets a Team Plasma grunt, let's go with Hugh Brooks. And, as mentioned, the difficulty. White is normal mode, Black is challenge mode, and my story here...B/W 2 is extreme mode. We're talking about if Pokémon had a difficulty that's similar to Witcher 3 on Death March difficulty, thought not 100% exactly. This won't be easy. With that out of the way, let's begin.
Brown leaves twirled through the crisp air above Aspertia City, floating over an elevated lookout where the residents can look out far into the nature of the landscape. Leaves were scattered across the pathways, and provided the small city an earthly smell. In the city, two kids, an older boy and younger girl were talking while a young woman passed them. Her name is Violet Wayland. She was heading on home and just as she reached home, those same brown leaves from earlier fell on her head. She laughed in response as she brushed them off before an Xtranciever interrupted her.
"Ah." She uttered before responding.
"Oh hi!" The person on the other side greeted.
"Why, Aurea Juniper! It's been far too long! How can I help you?"
"Well, it may sound spontaneous, but I've decided to give your son a Pokedex!" That took the mother by surprise as she gasped.
"Wow! A Pokémon...for Nate? Well that's certainly great! I think a journey would be a wonderful experience for his 17th birthday!"
"Anyway, my assistant Bianca should be there already."
"Already? Oh for Pete's sake, you never change." Violet laughed. "What does she look like?"
"Just look out for a a big green hat and blonde hair underneath."
"Ok, no worries! I'll let Nate know. Goodbye." As they hung up, the mother entered her home. "Nate, I have some news for you!"
"Coming mom!" Nate called from the other room. Pausing his game of Spiritomb Raider, Nate got up and exited his bedroom. "What's the news?"
"You know Professor Juniper right?" She asked him.
"Who hasn't? You two are even friends right?" He answered back.
"Yes. She called me in the first time in ages, and this is out of the blue, but the first thing she said after hi was that you're getting your very first Pokémon!" She giddily told her son, whom had his eyes open wide.
"You're serious?!"
"You do want one yes?"
"Absolutely!" He happily yelled with a huge smile. "This is the best birthday ever already!" Nate hugged his mom and even lifted her up, causing her to laugh along with him. Once she was put down, she told Nate,
"A girl named Bianca has come here to meet you."
"Oh yeah, Bianca Schroeder. Juniper's assistant." The young teen recalled.
"Look for a big green hat and blonde hair. You can't miss her. You have your Xtranciever, right?"
"Yes."
"Well, you better go on now, though I advice you change first. Your current attire isn't really suited for this October air."
"Alright." Nate agreed and put on some more appropriate clothes. A blue sweat jacket and black jeans. Getting my bag which I put my laptop in after saving and turning off, I headed out into the chilly outside.
"Hey Nate!" A familiar voice called to him. Looking to his right, he saw both his best friend Hugh Brooks and his little sister Amy Brooks.
Hey guys."
"Huh, what's with the get up and bag? How are you supposed to get anywhere without Pokémon?" He questioned sarcastically before laughing.
"Simple. I'm getting a Pokémon." Nate replied back, which made him stop and look at Nate, switching from teasing to serious in a split second.
"What?"
"Professor Juniper sent her assistant here to give me a Pokémon. I think it's because my mom and her are old friends or something.
"Okay, stop joking around. You're kidding right? You have to tell me if you're kidding." Hugh told his friend by Nate was unfazed.
"It's the truth."
"Wow, congratulations Nate! What are you going to do?" Amy asked me after her compliment.
"Oh, uh...I don't know. Although I think it's fun, I never really thought of being a Pokémon trainer. At least I have the basics down thanks to Hugh."
"Yeah, and don't you forget it." Said teen said while trying to look cool while doing it, making the other two roll their eyes.
"Well, where are you going anyway?"
"I'm going to go and meet Bianca Schroeder who came to visit. Big green hat and blonde hair."
"Well then let's find her!" Hugh turned to his little sister. "You head on home.
"Ok Hugh. Goodbye Nate." She said before heading back to her place of home.
"Alriiight! Let's go find this Bianca!" Hugh shouted excitedly as he pumped his fist into the air. The two boys spent 5 minutes looking for this woman since for a city, it was rather small and might as well have been only a city by name. Reaching the elevated lookout, they finally found her as she looked into the distant nature. Trees scattered around, a pond where swanna and duckletts swam across, the grass in how it was going away, but still provided a shade of pale green to contrast with all the brown. And Bianca was staring at the scenery with fascination.
"It's so pretty!" She then noticed Nate as he walked up to her. "Hi there? Don't you think?"
("Perhaps she doesn't know what I look like? Maybe I'll have some fun.") Nate thought to himself. "Yeah, it sure is. While there isn't much here the lookout is always breathtaking for newcomers. So who are you?" Hugh looked at me weirdly, but I winked to let him know I was going with something.
"My name's Bianca Schroeder! I am the assistant of Professor Juniper! By the way, I'm looking for someone. Do you know someone named Nate?"
"Can't say that I have. I only just moved here recently so I haven't met everyone yet." Nate was laughing hysterically to himself, and Hugh was certainly snickering trying to contain himself, but both managed to keep their composure as Bianca deflated.
"Oh. Perhaps I should look around for him then?" Before he could answer, Hugh couldn't contain it anymore.
"HAHAHAHA! Oh man we got her good Nate! Oh man that was hilarious!" It took Bianca a second or two to process what he was laughing about, but once it clicked, Bianca puffed her cheeks out in irritation and her hands gripped into fists.
"Hey, you were making fun of me, weren't you?!" I gave a few good laughs in response, though not as much as Hugh was hollering, but I did answer.
"Oh no no. We weren't trying to make you a fool. It just seemed funny that even though you were looking for me you didn't know what I looked like. So I went along with it, but seeing that you didn't take it good, I do apologize. I hope you can forgive my small prank."
"Yeah, same here." Nate's friend said as well while still chuckling.
"Well, I guess I can this time, but no more of that funny business." Bianca told them, which they nodded in agreement. Her casual smile returned. "Anyway, I'm here for something important."
"That wouldn't be giving me my first Pokémon, would it?" I asked amusingly.
"Oh, so you already know. In that case, let me show you your choices." Taking a glass tube out of her bag, it showed three Pokeballs. "On the left is the Grass Snake Pokémon, Snivy. In the middle is the Fire Pig Pokémon, Tepig. On the right is the Sea Otter Pokémon, Oshawott. Which would you like?" Nate gave a good thought about it. Knowing his starters, it came down to which species would fit him best, even if each individual of said species are different. He didn't think of himself as smug and prideful, so he might not mesh well with a snivy. Tepigs are easier personality wise, but considering that they're not known to last long in battles, especially since recently that Pokémon from other regions now inhabit Unova, the fire type didn't seem optimal now.
"I made my choice. I pick Oshawott." Nate stated as he picked up the right ball.
"Excellent choice. You better take good care of him."
"Hey Nate, how about we break your new Pokémon in with a battle? I'm sure my Tepig will appreciate having his first battle with you." Nate grinned at the thought.
"Alright, let's do it!" Bianca squealed as she witnessed them agree to a battle.
"This is just like when my Ash and I got our starters! Although...we accidently trashed his room. But we're outdoors now so it's okay!"
"R-right." Hugh agreed with a stutter before returning his attention to Ash. "Let's see if you can put what you know into practice!" Both of them nodded as they went towards the opposite sides of the lookout.
"If the both of you are ready, let the battle begin!"
"Pyro, go get him!" Hugh yelled as he let loose his Fire Pig starter.
"Oshawott, let's go!"
"Pyro, use Tackle!" Hugh went first. With a pounce, the fire starter slammed his head into Oshawott, making the water type gasp as he was pushed into one of the guardrails of the outlook.
"Come on, we can do this! Tackle as well!" Shaking his head while quietly grumbling, he tried to tag his opponent."
"Dodge and counter with Tackle!" Successfully moving out of the way, he let Oshawott run past and than tackled the starter in the back, sending the little Pokémon onto the ground with a face plant.
"Come on, Tackle again!" Even though it wasn't looking too good, the young water starter stood up and gave all he could to ram into Pyro, only to nudge him back. Pyro chuckled at Oshawott's attempt to deal any serious harm to him.
"Tackle." Hugh said one last time. Pyro pushed his competition off and gave one heck of a charge into Oshawott, pushing him into another guardrail. Oshawott fainted.
"Oshawott, return." Nate said. "That was a good first try. Thank you."
"You did good Pyro. Return." Hugh said to his starter. "Huh, I won my first Pokémon battle victory. This is different than battling wild Pokémon."
"You had an advantage. That was my first battle of any kind you know." Nate indignantly responded, but Hugh scoffed it off while shrugging.
"Well, whatever. I was happy to have that with you anyway. That was good enough for your first I guess. Well, I'm going to go train out in the route to get stronger still. Get stronger yourself in the mean time." He left his defeated friend and Bianca at the lookout.
"Aw, don't look so down. Both of you did your best!" Bianca tried cheering him up. "Oshawott may be weak now, but keep battling with him, and he'll become super strong!"
"Heh, thanks." Nate replied with a returning smile.
"Here, let me heal Oshawott for you while I'm here." The young woman offered. Nate let his starter out and let her patch him up.
"You know Oshawott, since Hugh's Tepig has a nickname, I should give you one. It should be cool as your final form." Thinking about it, Nate snapped his fingers with a smile. "How about Hydro?" Considering it, Oshawott nodded wordlessly. "Cool. Hydro it is."
"Such a great name." Bianca complimented. "Well, he's all healed up!"
"Thank you. I should head out and train."
"Would you like me to show you how to catch a Pokémon?" The young woman offered.
"Nah, I know how to do at least that and some more thanks to Hugh."
"Oh, well that's good too! I should check up on Cheren, see how he's going." As they started walking down the stairs of the lookout, they were approached by Nate's mom and Amy.
"Oh, nice to meet you! You must be Bianca right?" His mom asked. "And you picked Oshawott? How adorable!"
"May I hug the Oshawott? Amy asked Nate, whom smiled from her cuteness.
"If he'll allow it." He answered as he looked down at his starter. Sizing the girl up and down in contemplation, Oshawott opened his arms wide.
"Yay! You're so cute and fluffy Oshawott!" She cheered as she hugged the water starter, though not so much he was uncomfortable. He gave a gentle smile.
"Osha." He said. All of them laughed.
"Oh, right. I came here to give you and Hugh these maps, though apparently he's gone now." His mom noted. "Just give the second one to him."
"Will do." Nate nodded.
"Well, I'm going to catch up with Cheren. Have fun!" Bianca bid farewell before going to the gym.
"Have a safe trip honey." Violet said as she and her son hugged.
"I will. I love you."
"I love you too." Breaking from the hug, Nate set out to start his journey, even though he had no end goal in mind.
A/N: Well, what did you think? I like how I built Hugh up to be even more haughty than normal given the extra dialogue. I didn't have Bianca give Nate a pokedex because she's already on top of it, having recorded every entry long before now, so him doing it seemed redundant. If you have any questions please ask me, and I'll answer. Thanks for reading this story after so long.
