Unchained Melody
Here's the song at Youtube: watch?v=FZZqf3AVJbE
It was their fourth 'official' date and Judy finally had to admit it to herself that she'd fallen in love with her partner and best friend. She hadn't told him yet, but she thought he might just suspect. She looked into his green eyes and he smiled. Then the waiter brought the check and Nick put down Z50.
"Keep the change!"
"Thank you sir!" the Wolf said and grinned.
They walked out of the restaurant and then he turned the wrong way. She stopped and looked at her Fox.
"I have something for you," he said and winked, "but it's at my apartment."
Her ears came up and a little smile came to her lips.
"You didn't bring it with you."
"It's something you just have to see," he said and raised an eyebrow. "Trust me."
She sighed.
"Okay Slick, let's go," she said and took his hand.
Of course she knew where he lived, but she'd never been inside. He held the door for her and then followed her in.
"Such a gentlefox."
"I have my moments," he said, preening just a bit, and she giggled.
Then he pushed the button. The elevator dinged and the doors opened a moment later. They stepped in and he hit '3'. Then the doors closed and she looked up at her Fox. He looked down at her and put an arm around his bunny. Thirty seconds later elevator dinged again and the doors opened.
"Ladies first," he said, gently urging her forward.
"Slick, aren't you laying it on a bit thick tonight?"
"Of course not!"
"I think you just want to look at my tail!"
"Now why would I want to look at your soft fluffy white tail?"
"How do you know it's soft?"
"I'm using my imagination," he said and winked.
She giggled again and he came up to walk beside her. After they'd passed five apartments he stopped and unlocked the door. She didn't quite know what to expect, but an image of moss hanging from the ceiling sprang to mind before the door quite opened all the way. It was actually quite clean and neat!
"Ladies first," he said and she rolled her eyes.
The door shut and she took a deep breath.
"It's nice," she said, looking around.
"I bet you thought I was a..."
"Actually I did," she admitted and he laughed.
Then she looked around a bit more and found two closed doors.
"It's the one on the right," he said and she felt her ears begin to warm. "The other's my bedroom."
She looked at him and he only smiled.
As she walked down the hall she thought she could feel his eyes on her tail. Then she opened the door and found the bathroom was a neat and clean as the rest of his apartment other than a stray tuft of red fur. She smiled, picked it up, and for a moment she thought of keeping it. Then she blushed again and quickly tossed in the garbage can.
When she came out Nick was sitting on the couch waiting for her and patted the spot beside him. She sat and looked at him.
"Well you remember the astronauts found that derelict spaceship a couple of years ago."
"Of course!" she said and smiled. "The humans make great science fiction movies!"
"We certainly have seen enough of them," he said, remembering their almost weekly visits to the movie theater over the last year or so. "Well not only they make good movies they also made some beautiful music too." She cocked her head. "I think I found a song just for you."
Only then did she notice that the TV was on and it showed a menu. He picked up the remote and touched a button. Then the TV went dark and the video began. The name of the song and artist showed on the lower left part of the screen in Zootopian - Unchained Melody by Bobby Hatfield. A male human in a pink suit picked up the microphone and set the stand aside. She thought he was quite handsome. Then he began to sing and subtitles showed at the bottom of the screen. Her ears popped up and she leaned forward. It was beautiful!
For the next three minutes and twenty-two seconds she sat there, hugging herself and swaying to the music. Only when it had finished did she find that her cheeks where wet with tears. It was the most beautiful song she ever heard in her life! Then the song began again and Nick stood and gently pulled her into his arms. He held her close and they began to sway to the music. It played three more times and before it began again he kissed her. Then she kissed him.
Then she felt herself lifted into his arms and a few moments later she lay beside him on the couch. She looked into his green eyes and felt him pull her close. After the song repeated eight more times they lay beside each other now somewhat breathless.
"I love you," he said and they smiled at each other.
A bit later the song began again.
