Chapter 3: Card Games

Android 18 was sat across from the last person she ever expected to share this hobby of hers with. Beyond 17 and Krillin, she never told anybody about her enjoyment of Magic: The Gathering. It was her secret hobby. Something she enjoyed even when she was little. She and 17 would sneak into the stores and steal a couple booster packs every now and again. The artwork was her little escape from the world around her.

And there sat Vegeta, with his nasty scowl, glaring at the cards as if they were written in a foreign language. It was stressing 18 out, though she refused to show it. "So, do you want to take your turn or not?!"

Vegeta sneered at her. "Give me a damn minute, I'm trying to read..."

18 pressed her fist to her cheek. "Oh, so you're actually trying to learn how things work? Color me skeptical, but you don't seem like the type to care..."

Vegeta ignored her, reading each card and trying to grasp their effects. Once he had convinced 18 to play a game with him so he could learn, Vegeta raced to the nearest store to buy a starter kit. He had spent all night reading the rules so that he would have a thorough understanding of the game.

As Vegeta sat there, 18 looked to her deck: The Planeswalker Starter Deck featuring Chandra Nalaar. 18 had better decks that she had personally contructed, but she decided to take it easy for the sake of Vegeta's ego. She had already set out her first Land card and had placed a couple of creatures. She was going to start with a very defensive strategy: a bid to draw out just how much Vegeta had learned from his own studies into the game's dynamics.

Vegeta nodded. "Okay, first I'm going place a Lands card...my Swamp..."

18 nodded. "Swamp, huh? Any particular reason you went with that?"

Vegeta sneered. "None of your damn business..."

18 frowned. "If you're going to be a dick, I'm going to go home."

Silence. The two of them glared at one another. Vegeta sighed. "I picked all of my cards because of the skull. I like the black magic cards..."

18 flinched back for a moment, but then she chuckled and smirked. "That's so childish. But, that's fine~"

Vegeta grumbled. And then, he placed another card. "I'm going to, uh, summon my creature here...Bog Serpent..."

He glanced around the board. "And then I'll draw two cards, I suppose, and end my turn..."

Android 18 sat back and took stock of what Vegeta just did. And one thing was painfully clear...he was nervous. 18 smiled and sighed. "Okay, Vegeta, good turn. Now then..."

And so, Vegeta and Android 18 played their game of Magic: The Gathering to completion. And much to the Prince's dismay, 18 beat him quite handily. As 18 left Capsule Corporation for the day, Vegeta called after her. "Next time, we're doing something I'm good at!"

Next time!
