Emma noticed a change in her wife's mood after arriving at the castle. She was depressed and never left her room. She wouldn't speak to anyone except Emma. Not even Henry.
"Just tell me what to do," Emma begged.
"There's nothing you can do."
"Are you upset that we moved here? We can go back to Storybrooke."
"Our children and parents are here."
"That's what it is, isn't it? You would rather be in Storybrooke."
"It's so stupid. I just got used to everything there and it was easier for me to get around. The ground here is so uneven."
"Why didn't you say something sooner?"
"I am the only one unhappy. It doesn't matter."
"Yes, it does."
There was a knock on the door and then Odette slowly opened it to walk in, "am I interrupting something?"
"No, maybe you can help," Emma said.
"Emma!" Regina gave her wife a look warning her to not go any further.
"With mom being depressed and missing Storybrooke?"
Both women looked at their daughter in shock, "how did you know that?" Emma asked.
"I was listening outside."
Regina looked at her wife, "she gets that from you."
"It's a useful skill."
"If you two want to go back you can."
"We're your parents. We can't leave you," Regina said.
"We've been fine the past year and I mean we haven't seen you since your arrival."
While Odette didn't mean to, that last part hurt Regina. Emma could tell her wife was upset, "princess, why don't you give us a moment? Actually, could you find gigi for me?"
"Sure," Odette left the room and shut the door behind her.
"What do you need with my mother?"
"I just want to try something and she's the only one who can help. Well, Rumple can but he's the last resort."
"I'm not needed."
"Yes, you are."
"You heard Odette. They've been fine without me."
"I can't say anything to make you feel better, can I?"
"No, just leave me alone for now."
Emma reluctantly left her wife alone and went to find Cora. "She's so miserable. I thought being here was what she wanted," Emma told her mother-in-law.
"It sounds to me like she's feeling the same way she was after Odette was born."
"I don't know what to do."
"I'm sure everything will be fine."
"I have an idea to help her but I can't execute it. At least not on my own."
"What is it?"
"I want to bring Storybrooke here."
Emma went back to her suite to check on Regina once Cora had left. She opened the door and walked to the bedroom where she knew her wife would be. Emma wasn't expecting what she saw next. Regina was lying on the bed, face down, and bleeding from her wrist. Emma ran to her wife to find a pulse. Once she was able to confirm the woman was still alive, she ran to find help. Cora, Zelena, and the Blue Fairy worked together to help Regina. Emma sat in their sitting room with her children and parents.
"She's going to be alright," Snow said.
"Regina can survive anything," David added.
"Mom has never been one to give up so quickly," Henry commented.
"Until now," Emma said softly, "I thought these thoughts had passed."
"She'll get better," Odette said.
"Emma, you need to let your feelings out," Snow said, "especially if they're negative. Regina won't be able to handle those so it's probably best that you get them out now."
"I'm so pissed at her. I've done nothing but love her and try to help her the eighteen years we've been together. I told her that I would always be here for her. We have six children together and she's just going to leave us?! What the hell?!" Emma began to cry and whispered, "what the hell?"
The Blue Fairy came out of the bedroom, "she's going to be fine. She just needs some rest. Cora and Zelena are sitting with her. I don't think she should be overwhelmed when she wakes up. It's probably best if Emma is the only other person in there for now."
Everyone looked at the blonde. "Yeah, well, someone else can go in because I'm sure as hell not ready to see her." Emma got up and walked out of the suite. Faline was the one who followed the blonde. She was the one who understood Emma just as well as Regina. Maybe even better.
Meanwhile, in the bedroom, Regina began to stir awake. "Go get Emma," Cora told Zelena. The redhead rushed out of the room and Cora turned her attention back to Regina. "Sweetheart, you're alright. You can wake up."
Regina slowly opened her eyes, "mother? What, what happened?"
"You don't remember?"
Regina thought for a moment before tightly closing her eyes, "now I do."
"Zelena went to get Emma. She's with the kids right now."
Zelena walked in and had a worried look on her face, "hey, you're awake," she said to her sister.
"Where's Emma?" Cora asked.
Regina looked closely at her sister, "she left," the brunette said.
"She wouldn't leave," Cora insisted and then saw the look on her eldest daughter's face, "she left?"
"Faline went after her but it may be a while before we see Emma."
"She's never going to forgive me," Regina said.
"I'm sure she will," Cora tried to reassure her daughter.
"Zelena, I need someone to tell me how Emma was feeling before she left."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"They told me that they had Emma get her anger out before seeing you so that it didn't upset you. I guess she's quite angry and that's why she left."
"Thank you for telling me the truth."
Zelena left to feed Robin while Cora stayed with her daughter. About three hours after Regina woke up, Emma walked into the room, "hey," she said softly to her wife.
"Hey," Regina responded, "mother, could you give us a moment?"
"I'll be right outside."
Once Cora had left, Emma spoke, "how are you feeling?"
"I'm alright," Regina said.
"I have a surprise for you. Your mom and Zelena have been helping me with it."
"Really? What is it?"
"We brought Storybrooke here."
"What? Are you serious?"
"Yes, and I was going to take you there and surprise you. We did it just before I found you. I was coming to get you."
"I'm so sorry."
"I'm gonna let you get some rest."
"No, please stay."
"That might not be a good idea. I don't want to go off on you and make things worse."
"I need you to get it all out."
"Fine," Emma didn't want to do this, but she had to. "Do you have any idea what your death would do to this family? To our children and parents? To me? I have never given up on you and have only tried to give us the best life. Give us our best chance. What the hell, Regina? How could you do this to us?"
Regina was in tears, "I don't know. I just got to such a dark place and didn't know how to ask for or get help. I have never wanted to leave you or die. I was scared and this was the easy way for me to relieve myself of all the negative energy. I'm so sorry, dear. I hope one day you will be able to forgive me."
Emma had tears in her eyes too. She sighed and crawled into bed next to her wife, "I forgive you," she whispered. "I love you and will always be here for you. Just let me in."
"I will and I love you too."
Emma held Regina as she released the rest of her emotions. It broke her heart to hear how upset the woman was, but it warmed her heart to hear her repeat, 'I love you.'
