Blueeyeddevil06, thank you for being my beta, and for the help with the chapter title.
Serena sat down at the lunch table across from Amy. She hastily set her lunch tray down and looked at her expectantly, "Okay, so how are you doing? And don't play coy."
Amy sighed, and her shoulders slumped, "I worry about him off with Beryl, but at the same time, I'm still me. Does that even make sense?"
"Of course it does. I speak 'Amy' now after all these years." Serena picked up a french fry and pointed it at her, and said, "You worry about him because you love him. All that said, you haven't lost your identity. You don't need him around, but you do want him here."
"You always were better at expressing emotions than I was. Yes, that's what I meant."
Serena took a bite of her fry and, with her mouth full, said she added, "Plus, he adds to your life. He just doesn't make your life."
"Yes!" Amy threw her hands up in the air. "That's just right. I have and had a great life without him. He just improves it. I do love him so much, though."
"He'll be safe. I know you worry he's trying to impress you by getting information but remember, Darien told him if he gets put under the service of the Negaverse again, he won't trust his opinion as much. I have a feeling that would be devastating for him."
Amy breathed out in relief, "I didn't think about that, but you're right. He really wants Darien to rely on him and his brain."
"Good, I'm glad that's cleared up."
Amy looked at Serena appraisingly, "Have you just been going around and talking us all into sanity right now?"
Serena shrugged, "I don't know about that. All I know is that I'm there for each one of you, just like you would be for me. Or don't you remember how many times you comforted me over my unrequited feelings for Darien?"
"They were hardly unrequited. Look at that rock on your finger. It's huge!" she said, smiling.
"True, but we didn't know it at the time. I seem to remember a certain bluenette telling me he's so smart he would have to fall in love with me."
"Oh," she said playfully, "You mean the really smart bluenette that was totally right about him?"
"That one," Serena agreed.
Rick was sitting in the living room at the girl's house, trying to keep his frustration to himself.
He couldn't figure out why the hell Jadeite had to live with Molly. Well, so he had his own room, but he was there in the morning when her hair was sexy from just waking up. He got to see her before Rick did every day too.
This absolutely sucked.
The worst part about it was he was entirely in the wrong over this all. Jadeite was Raye's soulmate. The reason he lived with the girls is that everyone else seemed to genuinely believe her grandfather would toss Jadeite in the Great Fire if he caught him in bed with Raye.
So here he sat. Jadeite came out of his room and plopped down on the chair across from Rick. "Okay, so I get it. The thing is, Molly is new to me, but she matters to all the girls. I would defend her with my life."
"That's my job," Rick objected.
"Yeah, but I have more to back it up. Sorry, but you have to face it. I'm stronger."
"This is supposed to make me feel better?"
Jadeite shrugged, "I didn't think about how it's supposed to make you feel. I just want you to know. The girls have made it clear to everyone. She's one of them. It doesn't matter that she's not from their past."
"So, you'll protect her."
"Exactly."
Rick nodded, "You're telling me that she's fully part of the group."
"You're finally catching on."
Rick leaned back in his chair and sighed, "And I am...?"
"The lucky SOB that is dating her. To be fair, I think all the guys are in the same category as you. Not one of the girls had to choose us. Queen Serenity made sure of that. Even Serena got to choose."
Rick rubbed his hand over his face, "With all this soulmate stuff, I worry that Molly will feel like she's missing out."
"Wow, are you whiny," Jadeite teased. "How do you know you aren't soulmates? You just aren't from our past."
"It's all… it's all a lot to take in. I just know I love her, and she's worth all the crazy. And it's a lot of crazy. I've talked to cats! To be fair, I really like them, and Artemis is really insightful." He ran his hand through his hair, "That's a sentence I just said."
Jadeite just started laughing at him. "To be fair, your life will never be boring.
"Darien, I was wondering if you'd like to study together Friday then go out for coffee."
He turned and looked at the petite woman who'd just spoken to him. "No."
She looked owl-eyed at him. "No? Just no?"
"Surely you've heard I'm with someone by now. It's hardly a secret."
"But… um. Guys like you….."
"What does that mean?"
"Well, I just assumed you weren't faithful. You're going to be a doctor, and you're rich."
He looked at her in horror, "I think it's best if you walk away and never talk to me. Nothing is as important to me as her. I'd give up anything for her, even my life." That truth he'd proven thousands of years ago.
He walked away frustrated, and then the perfect idea dawned on him.
"Why are you calling me?"
"Is that any way to talk to your daughter?" Raye asked.
She heard her father let out a long sigh over the phone, "Just get to the point. I'm sure it has to do with our arrangement."
"It does, and I have something I want you to do for me, so I'm open for negotiations. I turn twenty in eight months, and that means I need your signature for what I want sooner rather than later."
"Quid pro quo."
"Precisely. So, what do you want, Dad?"
"Nope, I want to know what you need from me. That way, I can make sure I get something equal out of it."
Raye rolled her eyes, she expected as much, but she felt she had to try to get away with what she could. "I want to give you what you want. It's the perfect way to get rid of me. I want you to allow me to marry. I can't without your signature until I'm twenty."
"Hmmm… I want three political events of my choosing with the child."
She knit her brow and said, "What? What are you talking about?"
He scoffed, "Are you trying to tell me you're not pregnant?"
"I'm really not. What an ass."
"Then why rush the wedding? I'm not stupid. I'll take two political events. There, how's that?"
Raye was furious. She wanted to go over, and… suddenly she calmed down and smiled. "Okay, Dad, I'll give you three events if you show up and sign the marriage license whenever I ask. I won't let you drag this all out, though. You have to use all three within a year from now."
"Deal."
Raye just managed to hang up the phone before she burst out laughing. He was such an ass that she won that round. She didn't really have to promise him anything in order to get his signature. She did have to use precaution and not get pregnant in the next few months, but she was on birth control. She was careful anyway. Fool. She loved that she had the upper hand.
Serena walked out of the bedroom, ready to go to JSDF class, and Darien was wearing a hoodie. He looked so sexy. She raked her eyes over his body and said, "Damn, do you look hot!"
He gave her a sexy smile, tossed her a shirt, and said, "Please put this on instead."
She unfolded the shirt, and she burst out laughing. "I knew you'd make me wear a shirt with your name on it!" She smiled as she held up a shirt that read, "I heart Tuxedo Mask."
He then unzipped his hoodie, and showed her that he was wearing a shirt that read, "I heart Sailor Moon."
She smiled at him and said, "I love you so much."
