Emma walked into her bedroom and found her wife making the bed. The woman was struggling. Her knee had been bothering her recently and that leg would shake if she stood on it for too long. Emma went to take over for her wife, but Regina slapped her hand away.
"Why are you so damn stubborn?"
"Emma, I can make the bed."
"Your leg is shaking."
"I'm quite aware of that. Did you come in here to state the obvious and lecture me?"
"No, I just got off the phone with Odette. I asked when she and Robin would be arriving tomorrow and come to find out you told her to wait until after the baby was born."
"Yes, I did tell her that."
"What the hell, Regina? Why didn't you tell me?"
Regina reached over the bed to get something and couldn't stand back upright, "I just knew you would tell me to not do it."
"Honey, let me help you."
"Okay," Regina said. Emma walked over and helped Regina straighten up by wrapping her arms around the woman's waist and chest. "Odette is pregnant and doesn't need to worry about helping me."
"She is a young and healthy woman. I also happened to call our other children and found that you cancelled their upcoming visits too. This is the third time you've cancelled on Henry and Ella. The third time we've missed meeting our new granddaughter."
"I just can't face any of them."
"Why not?"
"They always make me feel so fragile and useless. I love them to death, but I can't take being handled with kid gloves. At least you treat me like an adult most of the time."
"It's been months since we've seen Lucy and we haven't met Celia yet."
"I know, don't you think I know this?"
"Faline's boyfriend wants to meet us because I think they want to get married. She said he won't propose without our blessing. Odette is due to give birth in two months."
"What do you want from me?"
"Let me invite them all over for the weekend. I will talk to them about how they treat you. I'm going to tell the boys and Stella that they can move back in. I will tell them to help you when necessary but to not try to take care of you."
The family weekend rolled around and all of the children were coming. Faline and her boyfriend, Graham Humbert, were the firsts to arrive. They wanted some alone time with Emma and Regina. "I really feel like Regina won't be okay with this," Emma said.
"Because she's slept with him?" Faline asked.
"How did you know that?"
"Graham told me."
"I wouldn't want to date anyone my mother slept with."
"That's good because it's only grandpa and Dr. Whale."
"I can go," Graham said.
"No, we might as well get this over with," Emma led the couple to the living room and then went to the kitchen, "honey, Faline and her boyfriend are here."
"What's he like?"
"Regina, come here for a second," Emma said seriously.
Regina wiped off her hands, grabbed her cane, and walked over to her wife, "what's wrong?"
"It's Graham," she said softly.
"What's Graham?"
"Faline is dating Graham."
"What?" she whispered, "does she know?"
"Yes, and she doesn't care."
"I don't know if I can do this."
"Remind me to kick Neal's ass later."
"Why?"
"He knew and has already met Graham."
"How do you know that?"
"I called and asked him just before I came in here."
"I guess we better go out there." Regina had wanted to hold onto her wife's arm but didn't want to appear weak in front of Graham. The two made their way into the living room. Faline stood and went over to hug her mother.
"Are you mad?" she whispered.
"Just shocked and a bit uncomfortable."
"I'm sorry, mom."
"It's okay," Regina pulled out of the hug, "it's nice to see you again, Graham."
"Likewise, Regina," the former sheriff was just as nervous.
"I still don't know why you left Storybrooke."
"I never really left. I found my heart and hid until the curse was broken. Then I used a magic bean to return home."
"Well, make yourself at home. I need to get back to the kitchen."
"Wait," Graham said, "Faline and I have been talking and..."
"You'd like our blessing?"
"Yes, we would."
"The only thing I have ever wanted for my children is happiness. If you make her happy then you have my blessing. Just give me time to let this sink in and get used to it."
"Thank you," he said.
Regina returned to the kitchen. When the boys and Stella arrived they went to the kitchen to greet their mother. They found her sitting on a stool while working on dinner. The mayor smiled and opened her arms for her children, "are you moving back in?"
"Is that alright?" Remy asked.
"Of course it is."
"Good, cus we are," Oliver said.
"Mommy, are you alright?" Stella asked.
"Of course," Regina smiled, "why?"
"You didn't even try to stand when we walked in," Remy said.
"Oh, well, your mama has me taking better care of myself."
"Good," Oliver told his mother. "It's about time you listened," everyone including Regina laughed at that.
The three kids left the kitchen and joined their sister and Graham while Emma joined Regina. "See, this is making you very happy."
"Aside from the fact, my daughter is basically engaged to my ex-lover."
"He's kissed both of us and now he's with Faline. I'm happy she's happy but this is weird."
"Says the woman who married her mother's step-mother."
"Shut up," Emma said with a smile.
"Knock, knock," the couple turned to see Odette, Robin, and Roland in the doorway. Once Robin and Roland said hello, they left the women alone.
"You look wonderful," Regina said.
"Just like your mom when she was expecting you," Emma added.
"The other's don't even live here and they were here before you," Regina said.
"Well, we knew Faline and Graham wanted some alone time with the two of you."
"You knew?" Emma asked.
"Please, you two were the last to know."
"Figures," Regina rolled her eyes.
"I couldn't figure out what I wanted to wear. It's hard to dress this thing," she said gesturing to her nearly full-term bump.
"I didn't have a problem," Regina said.
"Well, of course, you didn't," Emma said.
"Sweetheart, why don't you join the others and rest," Regina suggested.
"Oh, okay," Odette had wanted to stay in the kitchen. She knew her mother meant well, but Regina was doing exactly what Cora did that drove her nuts. Odette left her mothers alone.
"You shouldn't have said that," Emma said.
"Said what?"
"She wanted to stay here with us."
"I just want to make sure she's resting. She is in her third trimester."
"I know and I'm sure she knows that too. You know, let's not worry about that right now."
It was almost dinner time and Henry was still not there with his wife and daughters. "He's not coming," Regina said.
"I'm sure they're just running late."
"Well, everyone's hungry and we shouldn't keep them waiting."
Emma went to the living room where her children were, "have any of you heard from Henry?"
They all shook their heads, "I didn't think he was coming," Odette said.
"Why would you think that?" Emma asked. The others looked away, "if you all want to eat then you better tell me. Your mother is almost in tears.
"Henry is angry with mom," Faline admitted. "Lucy has been upset that mom keeps cancelling and Henry is angry because of that. Ella's not too happy either."
"He told me they were coming," Emma said.
"I'm just telling you what we know."
"What do you know?" everyone turned to see Regina entering the room.
"Nothing," Emma answered, "let's eat."
"No, tell me."
"Regina, let's not do this now. Let's have a nice dinner with them. I'll tell you after."
"Okay," Regina could tell her wife really didn't want to have this conversation right now.
Dinner was a great deal of fun and really perked up Regina's spirits. Unfortunately, Emma was about to bring her down. "Are you going to tell me now?"
"Sit down," Emma said. Regina began to frown and sat in a chair the couple had in their bedroom. "I guess that Lucy has been really upset about you cancelling so much and her being upset has made Henry and Ella angry."
"With me?"
"Yeah and I don't think they're coming this weekend."
"I always do this. I always push him away. He was never really my son, was he?"
"He's always been your son. He's our son."
"No, he's your son," Regina stood with a bit of difficulty.
"You can't really blame them. I mean, anytime Henry has been upset you've gone all Evil Queen on everyone."
"Never say that title to me again!"
"Regina, you have to accept that Henry is not your little prince anymore. He's a grown man with a family of his own now. He will always be our son, but he's looking after his children the way you looked after him."
"I'm tired," Regina said through tears, "could you help me get ready for bed? I'm a little unsteady."
"Sure," Emma knew that what she had said got through to her wife. She knew when to push Regina and when to back off. This was one of those times she needed to back off and allow Regina time to absorb everything.
