David and Snow went their separate ways. Emma and Henry were on their way home from the party when David called. The two went home to pack bags for all four of them and then went to Regina's vault with a box.
"Let's just grab every book there is," Emma said.
"I found one with all her ingredients in the vault listed."
Henry and Emma took everything to Regina's house. They put their things in various bedrooms and took the box to Regina's. Regina was sound asleep and Snow was still worried about leaving her. The four members of the Charming family sat on the floor in a circle looking at different books.
"It would be helpful to know what we're looking for," David said.
"Just read all of them," Snow replied, "it says what they're for."
"Kind of like a 'magic for dummies.' Except it's in Elvish,'" Emma joked.
The Charmings had been on the floor for three hours looking at books. They were now lying on the floor to stretch their cramped bodies. "What are you all doing?"
Everyone shot up to see Regina slightly sitting up in bed, "reading," Emma answered.
"Unless there's writing on my ceiling, I doubt that."
Emma stood and walked over to the woman. She helped Regina lean forward and set up the pillows behind her before helping her settle again. This time the woman was more upright. "We were looking for that potion."
"You don't know what to look for."
"See!" David blurted out, "sorry," he said to Regina, "I've been reading spells and potions for three hours straight."
"Plus he asked how we were supposed to find it if we didn't know what it was."
"If you bring the books here I can see if I recognize one."
Emma, Snow, David, and Henry brought every book over to Regina. The woman picked up a book and was squinting. "Is something wrong?" Emma asked.
"My vision is blurry."
"Give it a moment," Snow said.
"No, it's been blurry since I woke up outside of Granny's. I thought that I just needed some sleep."
"I'll go get you some reading glasses and see if that helps," Emma said.
"The drugstore is probably closed."
"Not for the sheriff." Emma wasn't going to the drug store. She was going to see Gold. If she had told them then they would have lost it.
"Is there a reason you woke me up, sheriff?"
"I need a favor and yes I know there's a price."
"What's the favor?"
"Regina, she's not well..."
"I figured she wouldn't be."
"Well, we're trying to find the potion to help her, but her vision is blurry."
Gold walked over to a shelf and took out a wooden box. "Here, give these to Regina," he handed Emma a pair of glasses, "when she wears them it will clear up her vision."
"Thank you," she said, "what's the price."
"This one's on me," he said, "and while I don't know the potion by heart if you find it let me know. I can help. Again, no charge."
"Why?"
"I guess I'm just feeling particularly generous tonight."
"Thank you," Emma said and left the shop. Emma ran into the mayor's house and up to her room, "here," she said as she handed Regina the glasses.
Regina put them on and looked at Emma, "I had a feeling you'd go see Gold."
Everyone stared at Emma, "what makes you think I saw him."
"These glasses completely restored my vision. That's the only place they could have come from. What price did you pay?"
"It was on the house." Emma saw the surprise in every face. "He said he'd help too if we needed it and that was on the house also."
Regina began looking at each book. After looking through two, she stopped, "don't give up," Snow begged.
"I need a break."
"Do you know what the potion's called?" Emma asked.
"No, I've never had to use it. I don't know that anyone has." Regina picked up another book. She had decided that she wasn't going to lie there waiting for death. There was no time to waste. The others would help by holding the books for her to see the potions. Everyone began to worry when they had reached the final book. They had gone through most of the book and had only four pages left. When Emma showed Regina the final potion, they had all given up hope. "That's it," she whispered.
"Seriously?" Emma perked up along with everyone else.
"Yes, but you'll need it translated to read it," Regina's breathing had become labored.
"I can take it to Gold," Emma said.
"I can do it," Regina breathed out.
"Emma, I'll hold the book and your mom can write it down," David suggested knowing that Emma wanted to contact Gold for more help. The blonde stepped out and sent Gold a message about Regina's breathing. A half-hour later he showed up.
"Where did you get an oxygen tank?" Emma asked.
"I lied to Whale to get it. I don't have anything for breathing."
"Thanks," she said.
David and Henry rushed downstairs, "we got it," David said.
"What's Mr. Gold doing here?" Henry asked.
"He brought something to help your mom breathe."
"Oh, thank you," Henry said.
"Regina has some of the ingredients in her vault. I noticed she was out of three," David said.
"Let me see," Gold took the paper and looked it over, "I have these."
"Really?" Emma asked. "Okay, um, David go with Gold to his shop. Henry, you're with me."
"Wait!" Snow was coming down the stairs, "Emma, Regina wants you to stay."
"What?"
"You stay and I'll go with Henry."
"Um, okay, I need to take the oxygen to her anyway."
Snow, Henry, Gold, and David went to collect the ingredients. Gold and David were going to meet Snow and Henry at the vault to create the potion. Emma went upstairs to Regina.
"You stayed?" Regina asked.
"My mom said you wanted me too. Besides, I had to give this to you anyway." Emma hooked Regina up to the oxygen and turned it on.
"Where did you get this?"
"I called Gold and he lied to Whale to get it. Why do you think he's being so nice?"
"Damned if I know. Will you sit next to me?" Regina patted the other side of the bed. Emma sat on that side and took Regina's hand. "I need you to promise me something."
"Anything."
"Promise me that you won't let Henry forget me. That you'll give him all the love in the world and take good care of him."
"Regina, we're going to save you."
"No, you're not. Emma, by the time the potion is ready it will be too late."
"You don't know that."
"No, but I feel it. I just need you to promise me, for my peace of mind. I know you'll take care of the last part."
"Regina, Henry will always know you and know what an incredible mom you are."
"Thank you," she said as tears fell down her face. "Emma, can you hold me? I feel so cold and afraid."
Emma gathered the woman in her arms, "you're okay," she said softly, "you're going to be okay. I won't let anything happen to you. I promise."
