Regina walked out to the backyard where her wife was, "hey, can we talk for a minute?"
"Sure," Emma said, "what's on your mind?"
Regina sat next to Emma, "I want to have a baby."
"We are having a baby. Actually, we're having two."
"No, I want to carry and birth a baby."
"What about that potion you took?"
"I can have it reversed."
"Regina," Emma paused to try and choose the right words, "honey..."
"You don't think I should."
"Why don't we ask your doctor first? I can give my opinion but it won't be informed."
"I already asked him."
"And?" Emma knew the answer when her wife stood and began to walk inside, "Regina, wait!"
Regina turned around with tears in her eyes, "I can't talk about this right now. I should have never brought it up."
"Regina, I'm just concerned about your wellbeing. If it's safe and this is what you want then you should do it."
"It's not safe, okay. I already asked the doctor, but it's too late."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm already pregnant."
"What? How?"
"Remember that night I had to work late and you were in bed before I got home?"
"Yeah, you didn't get home until after midnight. Wait, did you have an affair?"
"No, of course not. I didn't choose this."
Emma stared at the woman as it began to register with her, "oh my God," she said softly, "are you okay?"
"Yes and no," Regina said.
"Why didn't you tell me that night?"
"I didn't want to stress you out. I went to the hospital to get checked out, came home, took a hot shower, and went to bed."
"Honey," Emma walked over and took her wife into her arms. "I'm so sorry you went through that."
"I want this baby," Regina said through tears.
"I'm not stopping you. I'll always be here for you. I promise," Emma whispered.
Emma agreed to tell her parents and Henry about Regina's pregnancy because the mayor didn't want to have to answer the questions she knew would follow.
"She's alright?" Snow asked.
"She's happy about the baby, but this is just reminding her about what happened."
"When did it happen?" David asked.
"A little over a month ago."
"Why don't we stay with you for now?" Snow suggested. "This pregnancy appears to be making Regina sick and you're about to enter your third trimester."
"That's not a bad idea, but you can't crowd her. Let her come to you for help."
"Don't we always?" Snow asked.
"No," Emma answered quickly.
Regina was perfectly fine with Snow, David, and Neal staying with them. She was excited about having a baby, but every time she got sick, she was reminded of that awful night.
Once Emma was in her final month, Regina was four months along. The mayor wasn't getting sick as often but would get dizzy on occasion. She had started using her wheelchair out of fear that she would fall and the baby would get hurt. One morning, Emma got up to brush her teeth. Regina already had but returned to bed to rest a bit more. Emma walked back to bed after, with a different look on her face.
"What's wrong?" Regina asked.
"My water broke."
Regina threw the covers back and grabbed her cane, "sit back in bed and I'll get your parents."
"I can just call them."
"That's actually a better idea." Regina sat on the edge of the bed and took Emma's hand. The blonde called and told her parents who were upstairs. Snow agreed to stay and wait for Henry and the baby to wake up. David was going to take the expectant moms to the hospital. "Whose car is your bag in?"
"Yours," Emma answered.
David helped his daughter to Regina's car while Regina tried to follow. She was having trouble keeping up. Emma pointed towards her wife once she herself was seated in the car. David walked over and took Regina's arm. He helped her into the back seat and got in the driver's seat. They were at the hospital within minutes. A nurse brought a wheelchair out for Emma and David helped Regina. Once both women were situated, David went back to Regina's. The mayor took her wife's hand as another contraction hit, "just breathe, dear." Emma did as her wife said, "that's it. It'll pass soon."
Emma sighed when the contraction was over. "Honey, I love that you are right here beside me and helping me, but I know you are tired. I won't mind if you sleep."
Regina looked almost embarrassed, "I'm fine, Emma."
"You couldn't make it to the car."
"I'm carrying a bit more weight right now and my balance is off more. I have to be extra careful."
"Okay, okay," Emma held her hands up in surrender, "I'm sorry I said anything."
It was silent for several minutes before Regina spoke, "I don't think I can do this."
"Do what?"
"Be a mother."
"You're already a mother."
"A lot has changed," Regina said as she looked sadly at her cane.
"Your physical health and state may have changed, but that's it. Your heart grew and you have so much more love to give. It will be difficult for you to adjust, but I have every bit of faith that you will."
"I think the next time someone walks in, I'll have them help me lie down."
Ten minutes later, a nurse walked in with an orderly who was carrying a cot. "We have the cot you requested, Emma," the nurse said. The orderly set it up out of the doctor's way but still close to Emma.
"You requested a cot?" Regina asked.
"Yeah, it was while my dad was helping you into the hospital. The timing is just amazing."
The nurse walked over to Regina, "would you like some help?"
"Yes, actually, I'd appreciate it." The nurse took Regina's arm while the woman grabbed her cane. The nurse ended up having to help Regina a great deal. She even helped the mayor lie down and tucked her in. Regina thanked the woman who left right after and the mayor fell asleep.
Regina was able to get about ten hours of sleep before Emma began pushing. After fourteen hours of labor, the first baby boy made his loud entrance into the world. Emma named the baby Oliver David Mills. The next baby was for Regina to name. Baby boy B was named Remy Robert Mills.
