It had been two years since Emma left home. Regina received a phone call from a prison out of state and agreed to accept the charges.

"Mom," a familiar voice said.

"Emma?"

"I'm so sorry for everything."

"What are you doing in prison?"

"I don't have a lot of time to talk. I'll tell you another time. I called because, well, I'm pregnant." Emma began to panic when her mother remained silent, "I don't want to give the baby up, but I won't be out before I give birth."

"Emma, I'll come down there and we can talk more."

"Okay," Emma said, "I'm sorry, mom." The girl hung up before Regina could say anything else.

Three days later, Regina was walking into the visitor's room of the prison housing Emma. She sat at a table and waited. When Emma emerged, she was visibly pregnant. Emma joined her mother at the table. "How are you?" Regina asked.

"I'm okay," Emma said.

"I brought papers to grant me temporary custody until your release," Regina said as she set the forms on the table. "I have to arrange to pick the baby up the day you give birth. That means I may have to stay here for a while as your due date approaches. Which I don't mind."

"I was framed," Emma said.

"What?"

"My boyfriend was going to fence some watches he stole so we could have a better life. Instead, he called the cops and turned me in. I just retrieved the watches from the locker he stored them in."

"A better life?"

"Come on, mom. I knew I couldn't go home after leaving the way I did."

Regina paused to collect herself, "I've signed the forms and I just need you to sign them. I'll give them to my lawyer when I leave."

Emma knew her mother was upset but didn't know what to say. The blonde signed the forms and handed them to her mother who got up and left.

Eight weeks later, Regina returned to the prison for Emma to give birth. The blonde didn't want her mother in the room and so Regina waited outside. After the baby was born, Emma held him, named him, he was cleaned up, and a doctor took him out to Regina. "Ms. Mills, here's your grandson."

Regina smiled and took the baby, "thank you," she said.

"Are you able to file the birth certificate?"

"Yes, I can do that." Regina took the certificate and looked at the name, "I can't believe she did that."

"Is everything alright?"

"She named him after my late father and late fiance."

"Emma's a good kid. She got a bad rap, but this little guy will get her back on track."

Regina took her grandson and left.

Two months after Henry's birth, Emma walked through the door of her childhood home. She went to the living room and found her son asleep in his baby swing. "Emma?" the blonde turned to find her surprised mother behind her. "What are you doing here? I was coming to get you in a week."

"I decided to surprise you. They offered me early release."

"I'm glad you're home."

"Thanks and thanks for taking care of Henry for me."

"It was no trouble. Thank you for naming him after my father and Daniel."

"I wanted him to have an important and special name. I'm sorry that I didn't want you in the room."

"That's okay," Regina said, "I should have visited after."

"Now that that's out of the way," Emma walked over and hugged her mother. She felt the woman slightly shaking, "you alright?" she asked when the hug ended.

"I just haven't had a lot of sleep. It's been a while since I've had a newborn in the house."

"I can take over so you can rest. I mean, I know I have to learn his routine, but I want you to rest. Where's your cane?"

"In my closet. I can't really use it while caring for Henry. I've been careful though."

Emma helped her mother sit so she could rest. The blonde was surprised by how much she loved being a mom. Things began to settle down, but in ten years, shit would hit the fan.
