Blueeyeddevil06, thank you for being my beta!
Mina stood in front of the Great Fire with Raye, Molly, and Rick. He wiped the sweat from his brow, "So what am I supposed to do, other than sweat to death?"
Mina crossed her arms. "You're going to find out if you and Molly are soulmates. You know that."
"Yeah, and I told you this is silly. I don't need to find out. I love her." Honestly, he was hoping they were soulmates and terrified that they wouldn't be. He hated the idea of Molly having "less" than her friends. He desperately wanted to give her what they had. He felt she deserved to have everything.
Molly smiled at him. "Just humor her. Mina wants to figure this out for us." Rick nodded even though he was nervous.
Mina concentrated on her skills as Sailor Venus and Raye stared at the Great Fire. They both looked at each other in shock after fifteen minutes. "Did you see that?" Raye asked.
"Yeah, they're soulmates. They have a… story, though. Something about a jealous woman."
"She didn't interfere even though she tried. They locked her away."
Molly looked questioningly, "Wait, we are soulmates?"
"Yes, and while you two had a wonderful life together, it wasn't without trials. There was another woman who loved him too."
"Please tell me I didn't lead her on."
"No, she saw you and fell in love with you immediately," Mina said.
Rick looked at Molly, smiling, and joked, "See, I've always been good-looking."
Molly chuckled and added, "And I've always been the only woman that could get your attention."
Rick pulled her into his embrace and kissed her passionately. He was incredibly relieved that they were soulmates. He was able to give that to Molly, and it meant the world to him.
In a small village centuries ago….
Rick stood there in the doorway of his home, staring out across his fields. He watched the workers he hired to bring in the crops as the breeze ruffled his hair.
It was a good life, and he enjoyed being the healer for the town. It meant he was there at the good and the bad moments, and today had been a good one. He was there at a difficult delivery of a perfectly healthy baby boy. He managed to save both mother and son.
Now the father had an heir after twelve long years of heartbreak. The mother cried tears of joy after her first live birth. Finally, she'd have a child to nurse and not bury and mourn over.
It was a very good day.
He sighed when he saw the village elder's granddaughter staring at him. She'd made it more than evident that she wanted to be his wife for quite some time now. And just yesterday, her father had approached him regarding a marriage between the two of them.
He hesitated to say no right away. He was afraid of offending the family and wanted to appear to think about it before passing on the offer.
She was lovely, but he wanted more: something that stirred him and a woman who had a mind of her own. The simpering woman didn't interest him. No matter what her face and body looked like.
He tried to ignore her glances his way and went back into the house, closing the door.
He informed her father that he didn't want to go forward with the union two days later. He tried to be respectful. He heard her weeping before he'd even left the house.
Whatever he'd hoped for when he said he wasn't interested in the marriage didn't happen. She pursued him relentlessly after that. She even tried to get herself into several compromising positions with him. He learned to walk around with a servant at all times to protect himself from being forced into marriage.
Then one day, he was out in the forest gathering herbs for medicines for his patients when he happened upon a beautiful woman who'd been wounded.
He looped his bag over his shoulder and carefully lifted her up, making sure not to jostle her too much. He took her home and checked her injuries, treating the cuts and bruises she had stained. Once he had taken care of her, he left the room and had one of his female servants clean her up and change her into clean clothes.
That night he sat by her and tended to her, making sure to keep her fever down and ease her aches and pains. To his embarrassment, he even brushed her cheek, gently caressing her from time to time. He'd never been attracted to a patient before, and his level of interest in her unsettled him.
The next afternoon when she opened her eyes and looked up at him, he fell completely in love. Her gaze was so steady, and it felt like he could see into her soul and know that they were meant to be together. He also learned the name of the angel laying there, Molly.
They both quickly fell in love, and he married her two months after they met. They lived a long and happy life together, they were truly made for each other, and he never spent a day without being thankful he'd found her that day in the woods.
Not everyone had been pleased about their love and marriage, though. The woman who'd tried for years to marry him went wild in her grief and jealousy. She grew so furious and desperate that she planned to murder Molly and force Rick into a marriage. She knew she didn't have the power, so she went deep into the mountains to search for a way to destroy her rival.
When she returned, she was twisted into an evil water spirit. In his desperation to save the love of his life, Rick went to a local shrine and managed to find a way to lock her away at the bottom of a nearby lake. And when she appeared in front of Molly one day, trying to pull her to the lake and drown her, he leapt out and used an ofuda to stop her and turn her to stone.
And so Rick and Molly's love lived on in the hearts and minds of those that came after them. They were a symbol of true love and became a legend.
