Cora and Henry Sr. moved into Snow and Charming's loft. The younger couple purchased a house when they welcomed their son, Neal. Cora and Henry Sr. didn't need much room but wanted enough for their grandchildren to visit. Regina and Snow were hanging out with Henry Sr. at the loft one day. There was a knock at the door of the loft, "I'll get it," Regina said.
"Are you sure?" Henry Sr. asked.
Regina eased herself up, "yeah, I'm fine." She walked over to the front door and opened it. What she saw caused her to nearly collapse.
Henry Sr. saw this and rushed to her side, "Regina, what is it?" He looked at who was in front of them. "Oh my God!"
Snow was coming down the steps, "what's wrong?" She saw who was at the door and was stunned, "mother?"
"Hello, my darling Snow."
"But, you're dead?"
"I can explain. First, I'd like to know what the daughter of the woman who tried to kill me is doing here."
Snow noticed how bad Regina looked, "God, Regina," Snow and Henry Sr. helped the woman to the couch. Eva followed and was confused as to why her daughter was being so nice to the Evil Queen. "Mother, have a seat and we can talk."
Once everyone was seated, Eva began, "I knew that Cora was trying to kill me. The blue fairy tipped me off. We devised a plan to save me, but we couldn't figure out how I could safely return to the castle. A clone was created of me and that's who was poisoned. I realized that as long as Cora was around, I could never return."
"Why didn't you tell me?" Snow asked.
"I wish that I could have spared you that pain, but your grief had to look real."
"Why were you able to come back now?"
"I was told that Cora has her heart back and has changed for the better. I was also told that Regina has found love with someone else."
"Yes, with my daughter, Emma."
A look of shock washed over Eva's face, "what?"
"Mother, please, I know this is a lot to take in right now. Regina and Emma share four children and are expecting a fifth any day now."
"Understood," Eva said, "I have a surprise for you."
"Really?" Snow's face lit up.
"When will everyone else be home?"
"Well, we can meet them at Granny's. That's close to where they all are."
Snow told her mother where Granny's was and then Eva left followed by Snow, Henry Sr., and Regina.
When Eva walked into Granny's and Snow instantly ran to her mother, "I have your surprise," the queen said. She opened the door again and Leopold walked through. Snow jumped into his arms. Once the hug was over, she turned to her family, "David, come here," the prince walked over, "these are my parents. Mother, father, this is my husband, David."
"Your majesties it's a pleasure to finally meet you," David bowed and kissed Eva's hand before bowing and shaking Leopold's hand.
"Son, we're no longer in our kingdom. Here we are not a king and queen. We're just Eva and Leopold."
Snow waved Emma and the kids over, "this is our daughter Emma, and these are our grandchildren, Henry, Odette, Faline, and Oliver."
Leopold noticed Regina sitting at a table alone and avoiding his gaze. He made his way over to her, "you know, there was a time when people would stand the moment I walked into a room," he said softly.
David walked over and took Regina's hand. He helped the woman to slowly stand, "I'm okay," she whispered before turning to the king. "My apologies your majesty. I'm not able to stand on my own very well."
"Regina, I wasn't being serious."
"If you're going to kill me, please wait until my son is born. After that, do whatever you want to me."
"Why would I kill you?"
"We both know why."
"I didn't give you much of a choice back then. You did what you felt you had to do. Even if you had talked to me about your feelings, I'm sure I wouldn't have listened."
Regina faltered a bit and David caught her. Snow and Emma rushed to the woman, but she put her hand up. The mayor turned to Snow, "I'm so happy you finally have your family back. I'm also sorry for taking it from you."
"Regina..."
"No," Regina nearly choked on the words, "if you'll excuse me, I'm a bit tired. You all stay and have a good time." She turned to find Dr. Hopper, "Archie, could you give me a ride home, please?"
"Sure," the conscience walked over and took Regina's arm.
"Leopold, I'm happy for you. Now, you have everything I could never give you."
Archie helped Regina to his car and drove her home. He helped her into her home and to the couch. "Would you like me to wait with you until Emma gets home?"
"No, but I do need a favor. You can't tell anyone anything I tell you, right?"
"You're a patient of mine, so, no, I can't."
Regina waved her hand and an envelope appeared. She took her wedding rings and placed them in the envelope, "please give this to Emma."
"Regina..."
She then waved her hand to reveal a bean, "I have a way to send the baby once he's born."
"What are you doing?"
"I'm not a member of this family. Eva and Leopold were beloved by the kingdom. There's no room for me here. Plus, looking at how much they love one another just reminds me of how much time I wasted with a man who never loved me." Regina waved her hand and sent Archie away before going to the backyard and tossing the bean.
Archie appeared at Granny's, "Archie, what happened?" Emma asked.
"You have to get home," he said, "Regina, she's leaving."
"What?" Archie handed Emma the envelope. She pulled out the wedding rings she had given her wife three years ago. "There's a letter. Dad, could you...could you read it, please?"
David took the letter and began to read, "my dearest Emma, by the time you read this I will be far away. These past six years with you have been the happiest years of my life. Never have I felt so loved and cherished. Unfortunately, I'm a villain and we don't get happy endings. It's too painful to see how much Eva and Leopold love each other. It reminds me of how much of my life was wasted locked up in a castle with a man who never loved me. Eva was considered the greatest queen of our land and there's not enough room here for her and the Evil Queen. I can't remain in Storybrooke with the woman my mother killed so I could be queen and the man I killed so I could be free. The people whose daughter I've hunted for most of my life. I have a way to send your son to you once he's born. I know you're angry with me and may even hate me, but know that I love you and your children more than anything. That's why I have to leave. Yes, they are your children. This is your family. This is the family Eva and Leopold built. It was never truly mine, but it was nice to think that for a while. I was never worthy of the children or you. I'm sorry, dear. I never wanted to hurt you. All my love, Regina."
Everyone was in tears including Eva and Leopold. Emma took the wedding rings and threw them in the trash along with hers. She picked up Oliver and motioned for the kids to follow her. Granny took both ring sets out of the trash and handed them to Snow, "I can't believe this. I can't believe she left."
"I saw it coming," David said.
"Why?"
The man looked down, "it's okay," Leopold said, "you can answer her."
"Regina spent her youth trying to win her mother's love. Then she falls in love with a man her mother kills in front of her because it would keep her from marrying the king. Regina then spends a decade in a marriage with someone who doesn't give her a second look after the wedding ceremony. She's trapped, alone, depressed, and angry. Then she turns to dark magic to fill the void left by love. Regina has always been afraid of love because people either didn't love her and used her, or they loved her and left her. I really believe that until yesterday, Regina felt a part of this family. She ran because she's afraid of losing love again. This way, at least she's in control."
"I'm so sorry," Eva said, "I never meant for anyone to feel this way."
"It's not your fault," David said.
"Do we know where she went?" Leopold asked.
"She had a bean," Archie answered, "she sent me here before I could ask where."
"Regina doesn't have much time until she gives birth," Snow said.
"The trip through the portal could have induced labor," Charming added.
"What do we do now?" Eva asked.
"Unfortunately, all we can do now is wait for Regina to send the baby."
