It had been a month since Eva and Leopold returned. This time, the knock was at the door of the Nolan house. David couldn't believe his eyes, "I don't understand."
"Well, son, I died around the time that Queen Eva supposedly did. She found me and gave me the water from the lake to heal me. We both knew that it wasn't safe for us or our families if we went home."
"What about mom? I saw her die."
"No, you thought you did. While you and Snow were taking your vows, I switched your mother with a clone. One like Eva had back at the castle. We took water from the lake that we had kept after healing Leopold and healed her as well."
"What about James?"
"No, we were advised to leave him be. I guess he wasn't a good person and would be a danger to everyone."
"That's an understatement," he said.
"Well, this is all just incredible," Snow said.
"It has made us immortal and given us magic."
"Just what this town needs, more magic," David said.
"Is something wrong?" Ruth asked.
"No, it's just that magic is more of a curse than a blessing. At least here anyway."
"May we meet our grandchildren?"
"Of course," David took his parents over to Emma and her family. He introduced them to everyone.
"Where's your husband?" Ruth asked.
Emma decided to relieve her father of the task of explaining her married life to his parents. "I don't have a husband."
"Oh, I'm so sorry."
"No, I never had one. It's a long and complicated story, but I'm actually married to a woman. Regina, that's my wife, and I became pregnant with the younger ones by having medical science take what they needed from the father and giving it to us. Basically, the children have the same father, were created in a lab, and grown inside of us. Yeah, I thought I could explain it better."
"We'll help them understand," Eva said, "it was confusing to us at first too."
The front door opened and Regina walked through the door, "mommy!" the children ambushed the mayor. Regina had a huge smile on her face. "Mommy, we have another grandma and grandpa," Odette said.
Regina looked up completely confused. Ruth instantly recognized the woman, "is this who you're married to, Emma?"
"Yes, this is my wife."
Regina smiled and walked over to meet the couple, "does anyone want to catch me up?"
"Remember after you were released from the hospital? That conversation we had?"
"About David's par...," she looked at the couple in shock.
"Regina, these are my parents, Ruth and Robert Nolan. Mom, dad, this is..."
"I know who she is," Ruth said angrily.
"Mother, she's not that person anymore."
"Ruth, I can understand your anger and fear," Eva said, "believe me, I can. David is right about her. She's a loving, kind, and caring person. A great wife and mother."
"Thank you," Regina whispered.
"Just get to know her and you'll see," Snow said.
"Well, if you are all singing her praises, then it must be true," Ruth said.
"It will take time and I understand that," Regina said.
"So Regina, David, and I have our parents back," Snow said.
"I'm more surprised at how well your parents get along with mine," Regina added.
"I'm more surprised by how domestic your mother has become," Emma said.
"I'm just surprised the town hasn't been burned to the ground by now," David said.
"Give me a reason, Charming," Regina joked.
"Since when do you need a reason?"
"I told her she has to have a reason to burn things," Emma said.
"Wow, way to take away her fun."
"Trust me, I didn't take away all of her fun," Emma winked.
"Yeah, now you've ruined my fun."
That Friday, it was decided that the women would spend time together at Regina and Emma's and the men would hang out at Snow and Charming's. Regina had been feeling off all day. Both Emma and Snow could tell. The children had decided to call Cora 'gigi', Eva 'nana', and Ruth 'noni'.
"He caught you in a net?" Eva asked.
"Yeah, he hid it really well," Snow laughed.
"Regina, could you pass the sugar?" Ruth asked.
"Sure," Regina handed the woman the bowl and everyone noticed how badly her hand was shaking.
"Hun, are you alright?" Emma asked.
Regina put on her best fake smile, "of course. As you can imagine, I'm a bit nervous."
"Why, mommy?" Odette asked innocently.
"I just met nana and noni. Remember how nervous you were on your first day of school?"
"Yeah, but it was fun."
"If you'll excuse me, I have something in the oven for dessert tonight that I need to check." Regina stood and left the room.
The women all kept the conversation going. Regina had spent most of the day in the kitchen. She still felt out of place. Emma and Snow were the only ones who really noticed. Emma's phone rang and Regina's name came up. The woman lost all color in her face. "Emma, what's wrong?" Ruth asked.
Emma picked up her phone, "honey, where are you?" The sheriff stood and rushed out of the room and into the hallway where she found her wife on the floor. "Hey, are you hurt?" Emma knelt down and took Regina's hand.
"I don't think so, but my legs aren't working anymore."
Emma took the woman into her arms and gently lifted her before carrying her up to their room. Once Regina was settled, Emma went back downstairs. "Is she alright?" Snow asked.
"She's not hurt."
"What happened?" Ruth asked.
"Regina has a medical condition that can cause her to have trouble moving around. It slows and weakens her body," Emma explained.
"Is she going to be okay?" Eva asked.
"She'll be fine. She just needs some rest."
Everyone helped Emma clean up and left so the sheriff could take care of her wife.
Ruth and Eva had really taken to Regina quite quickly. Cora had explained everything to both women and their husbands. They knew Regina didn't have the greatest upbringing and that Cora had essentially destroyed her daughter. They also knew that Emma helped rebuild the once Evil Queen. Eva, Ruth, and Cora had also become friends. The three women met at Granny's regularly and everyone was baffled the first few times they did that. Well, mainly because Cora was there too. Every now and then the men were on kid duty so Snow, Emma, and Regina could join the others.
"You and Rumplestiltskin?!" Eva said.
"I know, but I was so different back then. I wanted power and prestige. Now I just want someone to help with housework," Cora said and they laughed.
Snow walked in and joined them, "what are we talking about?"
"Rumple and Cora," Ruth said.
"Ewww," Snow cringed.
"Where are Emma and Regina?" Cora asked.
"They're on their way. Regina had to feed Remy."
"I can't believe how far she has come," Ruth said.
"Emma is a miracle worker," Cora added.
"Hey, I helped too," Snow said.
"Well, Emma helped Regina the same way Charming helped you," Cora said with a mischievous grin.
"Again, eww."
"Is Regina still having trouble?" Eva asked. The door opened and Emma helped Regina inside. The mayor had a tight grip on her wife and cane, "never mind."
Emma helped Regina sit and everyone greeted one another. The mayor remained withdrawn, but Emma joined the conversation, "so, what's everyone up to?"
"Talking about Cora and Rumple," Snow answered.
"Yeah, we're changing the conversation."
"Regina, how have you been?" Cora asked.
"Fine, mother, thank you."
Lunch went on and Regina never really opened up. She was quiet and hardly ate. Cora ended up leaving to take Regina home. Emma arrived home to find that the two never made it back.
