Regina refused to start physical therapy in the hospital because she wasn't able to see whether or not the therapist had closed the blinds. She didn't trust any of the staff to not embarrass her. The physical therapist went over things with Emma, Snow, and David. They were shown all of the exercises and given detailed instructions. Everyone felt it was best for them to help Regina since she trusted them. The day Regina was discharged, Emma picked her up at night. That way there was a smaller chance people would see her. Emma and the nurse helped Regina to her feet and into the Mercedes. Once Regina was settled in the car, Emma got into the driver's seat.
"Thank you for not bringing that death trap of yours."
"I knew better than to bring it."
Regina smiled, "I've never let anyone drive my car."
"Do you want to drive?"
Regina laughed, "I could try but then we'd probably end up inside Gold's shop."
"I'm okay with that," Emma joked and drove away.
Regina had been sent home with a wheelchair. They wanted her to walk, but her leg and back were still recovering. As was her head. She had the chair to go long distances. Regina had also agreed to use a cane as long as it wasn't one that blind people use.
"You could use both, you know," Emma said.
"I doubt I could right now. Besides, I'm determined to learn how to live without that thing."
"There's no permanent damage so this won't last."
"Forgive me if I don't trust Whale."
"I don't either, but I looked at your scans. Plus, I took a pic on my phone and sent it to someone for a second opinion. Someone outside of Storybrooke."
"I didn't give you permission to do that."
"Of course you did."
"Really? When?"
"When I forged your signature, your royal stubborn highn-ass."
"Creative," she said flatly, "thank you. I'm glad you thought ahead. How did you know those were the right scans?"
"I was in the room while they did them. I didn't trust Whale to give me the right ones."
"You're a lot smarter than I've given you credit for."
"I know," Emma said matter of factly. "Because of your leg injury, my dad is going to carry you up to the loft."
"Really? My leg injury?"
"Look, I'd be willing to let you try climbing the stairs blind but your leg is not in great shape. He's coming right now." Emma held a hand to stop her father. "Do you want to try and open the door? He's close by."
Regina felt around for the handle and managed to open the passenger side door. "David!" the woman clung to the door, shifted her legs out of the car, and held her hand out. She winced from the pain that radiated from her injured leg.
"I'm coming," the man said. As he got closer, he spoke again, "alright," David took Regina's hand. "Do you want to walk to the steps and then I can carry you up?"
"That's fine," Regina held her other arm out for David to take. He helped the mayor to her feet and then away from the car door so he could shut it. Regin jumped at the sound.
"Sorry, I should have said something."
"It's alright," Regina allowed David to hold onto her as they walked towards the door. Emma used her magic to send the wheelchair to the loft. There was no way she was carrying it, "you won't let me run into anything, will you?"
"No, of course not." The two approached the door, "okay, stop here so I can open the door." David wasn't able to open the door enough because Regina wouldn't let go. Luckily Emma ran up and held the door for them. David guided the woman into the building, "we're at the stairs." He took the woman's arm and helped her to place it around his neck before scooping her up. As they approached the loft, David had a thought, "do you want to walk inside?"
"No, could you just carry me to the couch? If that's alright."
"That's fine," David answered, "Emma's going to unlock the door and open it for us."
Once the door was open, David carried Regina to the couch and gently sat her down. He told Regina he was walking away and that Emma was there. Emma took a seat next to Regina.
"It might be best for someone to hold onto you and help you while your back and leg heal," Emma said. "We can help you learn how to live without sight, but I think it may be too much to expect you to learn how to walk around blind when you can barely walk."
"I agree," Regina said.
"Good, that makes this so much easier," Emma joked. Snow and David realized something about Emma and Regina that they hadn't even realized themselves. The two excused themselves and went to the bedroom upstairs.
"How would you feel about them?" David asked his wife.
"Regina's not the same person she was in the Enchanted Forest. She's shown that."
"That didn't answer my question."
"I think we have plenty of time to get used to the idea. They're both so clueless right now and don't even realize what's between them."
"Yeah," David said, "Regina better not call me 'daddy.'"
Snow laughed and follow her husband back down to the sitting room.
