Snow wheeled Regina into the house, "you know, I am able to walk," Regina said.
"Yes, but you aren't supposed to walk far."
"It's not that far from the car to the back door."
"Mother," Snow said sternly, "don't argue with me."
"Am I allowed to sit on the couch?"
"Of course," Snow decided to show her mother that she did need help, so she stood back to allow the woman to stand.
Regina didn't move and sighed, "I need some help."
Snow took her mother's arm and helped her up. "Are you okay?"
"Just tired," she answered.
Snow helped her over to the couch and sat her down, "do you need anything?"
"I'm fine, dear." Regina remembered something, "wait, could you get my cane?"
"Sure, where is it?"
Regina sighed, "I don't know. Your grandfather might."
"I'll call him and ask." Snow did and he knew the exact location of the cane. The princess retrieved it and gave it to her mother.
"Thank you, dear."
"Sure," Snow said, "just tell any of us if you need something. We're here to help you get back on your feet."
"I appreciate it."
David walked into the room, "I'm really surprised that this place isn't dark."
"Why's that, Charming?" Regina asked sarcastically.
"Well, dark magic, dark soul, dark décor."
"You're hysterical," Regina joked.
"Do you need anything done around the house?"
"Are you going to fix it with your sword?"
"I bet I could."
"Alright you two," Snow said. "Mother, you're not supposed to be getting worked up."
"Yeah, mother," David said.
"David, you're not supposed to work her up."
Regina just grinned, "Snow, dear, we were just having some fun. I'm fine," she said.
"You had a heart attack. You're recovering and therefore are not fine."
"I'm sorry, Snow," David said. "I'll wait until she's recovered to mess with her."
"What's the fun of having you both here if I can't joke around with David?"
"Mother, please, I'm just trying to help you."
"I know," Regina sighed, "I'd like to take a nap. If you don't mind."
"Not at all. Do you need help or anything?"
"Could you help me lift my legs onto the couch? They're still a bit weak."
Snow helped her mother before covering her up with a blanket.
Regina woke up from her nap to an empty room. She tried to sit up but was unable to. "Snow!" she yelled. Regina heard footsteps and became afraid. If it were Snow, she would have answered. Luckily, David walked around the corner.
"Hey," he saw the fear on her face, "what's wrong?"
"You didn't answer and I didn't know who was walking towards me."
"Sorry, I had earbuds in," David held the small listening aids up.
"Could you help me sit up?"
"Sure," David walked over and gently held Regina as he helped her to sit upright, "is that okay?"
"Yes, thank you."
David went back to what he was doing and left Regina to rest. She couldn't believe how exhausted she was.
Henry was still ignoring Regina. Emma, Snow, and David continued to try and convince him to talk to her. He wouldn't budge. Snow walked into the living room three weeks after Regina's heart attack. "I brought your walking shoes."
"What for?" Regina asked confused.
"Dr. Whale said you should try walking a bit more and I thought we could take a short walk outside."
"Are you crazy? If I walk down the street I'll probably have another heart attack."
"We're not walking down the street or around the block. Just around the property."
Regina bent down to put her shoes on. It hurt a bit, but she was able to manage. The mayor grabbed her cane and took her daughter's hand to stand up. Regina was really enjoying the fresh air. "Can I ask you something?"
"You can ask me anything," Snow answered.
"Why do you call me mother?"
"Do you not want me to?"
"No, it's not that. You had a mother and I was most certainly not maternal towards you."
"Whether or not you were genuine, you still showed your maternal side. I wanted you to be my mother and when we made amends to one another, I was thrilled because now you would be my mother."
"Why did you want me?"
"I have always remembered who you were before Daniel's death. That's who you truly are and I knew that one day that person would find her way back to me."
"I wish your father had loved me."
"He did love you."
"Not the way he loved your mother. Do you know what it's like to compete with a ghost for someone's love?"
"Well, maybe now you can find someone to love you as much as you love them."
"Dear, I need to sit."
Snow helped her exhausted mother to a patio chair, "are you alright? I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to exhaust you."
"Relax, I'm fine. I was enjoying our conversation and didn't want to interrupt it."
"Really? You enjoyed that conversation?"
"I enjoyed it because it was with my daughter."
Snow gently hugged the woman and took a seat next to her. They stayed that way until dinner time. Snow had asked David to help Regina because the mayor was too tired for Snow to be able to support her. "Are you doing okay?" David asked as they slowly made their way to the dining room.
"I'm fine," Regina answered, "thank you for helping me."
"It's no problem, mom."
"You too?"
"Not if you don't want me to."
Regina smiled, "it's more than fine with me."
Regina turned in early that night. Every day someone would help her walk outside. Unfortunately, someone was going to show up and turn everything upside down.
Emma walked into the house after work one day. She found her grandmother in the living room with Snow, "we have a problem."
"Should you really tell us?" Snow asked, "I mean, we don't want Regina to have another heart attack."
"Cora is here." The Queen of Hearts had left after Regina was saved. She didn't say a word or leave a note.
"So you're just going to ignore me?"
"I'm sorry," Emma said, "yes, I should tell you. Gram, don't have another heart attack. Cora is here."
"Better but not much."
"How the hell did my mother get back here?"
"We don't know," Emma said.
"It wasn't hard," everyone turned and saw Cora standing in the doorway. She looked at her daughter,
"I'm sorry I left. I was a coward because I didn't think I could be the mother you needed."
"You're here now," Regina said.
"I have no intention of going anywhere," Cora said.
Cora surprised everyone by becoming a huge part of Regina's recovery. She helped her daughter get some exercise and helped to take care of her and the house. Cora had taken her heart out before getting married. She found herself falling in love with her husband. A sight that made Regina smile. Henry apologized to his grandmother and she had her little prince back. It took some time, but four months after her heart attack, Regina had fully recovered. Not only that but her family had too.
