Emma quickly lifted the Regina, "who's closer? Gold or Blue?"
"Blue," Regina whispered.
Snow grabbed Regina's cane and went to David's truck. Emma took Regina in the other car. David and Snow did stay behind to see if they could find evidence for what happened to Regina. When Emma and Regina arrived at the convent, Blue was standing on the porch in her robe. "Sorry for waking you," Regina said.
"That's alright," Blue said, "just bring her into the room we used last time."
Everyone followed Blue. Emma sat Regina on the bed, "it's on her upper, middle back."
"It's also on her chest," Blue noticed.
"Picture," Regina mumbled.
"Seriously?" Emma asked.
"Evidence," Regina answered.
Emma quickly took pictures of Regina's wounds before Blue used her wand to heal them. The sheriff helped Regina lie down for a bit. "Thanks again," Emma said.
"It was no trouble."
"Yeah, but I know that you're not crazy about her."
"I'm not crazy about the Evil Queen. I don't know Regina."
Snow and David walked in, "is she alright?" David asked.
"She's healed," Emma answered.
David held up another bag, "bullet wound. We looked for the casing, but either it was taken or we missed it."
"Did Whale have a gun?" Emma asked.
"I don't remember seeing one in his house. That doesn't mean he didn't hide one in his car or office," David answered.
"Blue, is there anything you can do to find out who set the fire at Regina's and shot her?" Snow asked.
"There's a special sleeping curse that will take a person back to a certain time. You need something from that moment."
"We have plenty of ash from the fire and a bullet," David said.
"Is the curse dark magic?" Emma asked.
"Only if you use it for the wrong reasons. Using it to find out who committed these crimes is not dark."
"Let's all get some sleep. Tomorrow we'll start work on it," Emma said. She leaned down towards Regina, "honey, come on," she whispered.
"Would you like transport?" Blue asked.
"That would be great," Emma answered and handed her keys to her mom. Snow gave Emma the cane and the blonde took Regina's hand.
After getting some sleep, Snow, David, Regina, and Blue were ready to get to work. They met at the convent before heading to Regina's vault. "Just use what you need to," Regina told the Blue Fairy.
Blue placed a protection spell on the vault. It was blood magic so no one would be able to enter. Two separate potions were made. One with ash from the fire and one using the bullet.
"If we were in the Enchanted Forest, how would the perp be punished?" Emma asked.
Everyone was silent and Emma could tell that her parents and Blue didn't want to answer. "Oh for God's sake," Regina said, "I probably would have ripped their heart out and crushed it. Whale would have already been dead."
"You would have figured out that quickly?"
"You didn't read Henry's book, did you?"
"No, not really."
"I didn't need proof. In my eyes, people were guilty if I thought they were." Regina looked at Snow, "sorry," she said.
"What about me?" David asked.
"I barely hurt you. I have to start apologizing to your wife because it's gonna take a while, but I am sorry. I'm sorry to all of you."
"You're forgiven," it was surprising that the comment came from the Blue Fairy. "Regina, you weren't born evil. Evil took over your heart, mind, and soul. With Emma, it's almost as if you had never been the Evil Queen, to begin with."
"Thank you," Regina whispered.
"Both potions are finished."
"Okay, let's have Whale and Gold come down to the station. We'll put a few drops in their water."
"You can combine them," Blue said, "I made them separately in the event that two different people committed each act."
David and Emma took the potions to the station and called Gold and Whale. They were both told that if they wanted to be ruled out that they had to go to the station and answer questions. Belle convinced Gold to go and went with him. David convinced Whale by telling him that Emma wouldn't be in the room. "Thanks for coming down," David said as he went into the interrogation room with Whale.
"I'd like to put this to rest, so no problem."
David started the tape recorder, "there's a glass of water if you'd like some."
"Well, what did you want to ask me?" Whale took a sip.
David pulled out the bottle, "we found this, and I wanted to give you the chance to answer before we sent it for prints."
"There's a chance that my prints are on there. I could have handled it but anyone else at the hospital could have as well."
"Do you own a gun?"
"I do, but it was stolen a few weeks ago. I filed a report with the sheriff."
On the other side of the window were Emma, Snow, Regina, and Blue. Emma went to search for the report. "He didn't do it," Blue said.
"How do you know?" Snow asked.
"He drank the water and nothing happened."
Emma appeared in the interrogation room, "here's the file."
"Why did you want to know if I owned a gun?"
"Last night, someone shot Regina," Emma said. "You're free to go."
"Really?"
"Yeah," David said.
"One more question," Emma said, "how did you know about the skeleton keys?"
"I saw one in a supply room. I asked around and found out it was Regina's."
"Who told you? Do you still have it?"
"I do have it locked in my desk drawer."
"Let's go," Emma said.
Whale left with Emma and fifteen minutes later, Gold walked in. There was a new glass of water and David was once again asking the questions. "Let me ask you something?" until Gold had some of his own. "Why would I want to hurt Regina? She's the reason I was able to get here to find my son."
"She's also the reason Belle spent twenty-eight years in solitary confinement."
"The wraith was my way of trying to get rid of her. She can and did escape a fire, twice. The wraith would have most certainly taken her if it hadn't been sent to another realm. I like knowing that something is certain."
"Well, we have the bottle and the key used to open the cabinet. We're going to fingerprint them." David watched as Gold took a drink. Again, nothing happened, "anything else you want to tell me before we do?"
"No," Gold said.
"Alright, you can go. I'll be in touch if we find anything."
"I'm sure you will."
Gold left and David joined the others, "the two people at the top of our list of suspects have both been cleared. Now what?"
Emma walked in with the key in a bag, "it's definitely one of Regina's."
"Who could have taken it?" Snow asked.
"My assistant and I are the only ones with access to my office. Well, Emma too."
"Don't look at me," Emma said.
"I never thought it was you."
"Wait a minute," Snow said, "what if it was you?"
"What?" Emma asked.
"Not the person who set the fire, but the intended target."
"I wasn't at the house during the fire."
Regina remembered something, "but you were supposed to be. I had a meeting but couldn't go because my hip had been bothering me. You went as my proxy."
"Could anyone have found out about it?"
"If they called my office."
"Looks like we're starting over," Emma said.
The four sat down and started coming up with a list of names of people who would want to hurt Emma. "I'm a bit irritated that your list is so short," Regina said.
"Why?"
"That means it will take less time to solve it."
"Really? Would you like me to put your name on the list?"
"No," Regina rolled her eyes.
"When was Whale's gun stolen?" David asked.
Emma looked at the report, "six weeks ago."
"That's when I was in jail," Snow said.
"So?" Emma asked.
"That narrows down our window."
"Regina, who had been in your office that week? I bet the key was taken and used at Whale's and the hospital," David said.
"Emma, Jefferson, Gold, and..." Regina gasped, "I know who did it."
