David and Emma had come up with a plan to set a trap for their suspect. They arrested Whale. Gold went in as Whale's counsel. The DA joined them. "Well, look what the darkness dragged in."
"Only questions relevant to the case will be allowed," Gold said.
"Very well," the man sat down, "may I have some water. I feel as if this will take a while. I doubt our doctor here is eager to confess considering he's denied it at least twice already." David brought the man water. Moments later, Regina walked in unaided. "If I'm not mistaken, I believe it's a conflict of interest to have the victim in the room."
"Then it's a good thing I wasn't the intended victim," Regina said.
"Someone set your house on fire and tried to shoot you. How are you not the victim? They even used your skeleton keys."
"David, leave," Regina said. The deputy turned and walked out the door. "Dr. Whale, you're free to go. I'd like to thank you and Mr. Gold for your help." The other two men left. The DA went to stand, "I'd sit back down if I was you." He did and Regina sat across from him. "We have been trying to figure out who tried to kill me and it was almost impossible because the list is pretty much the entire town."
"What's your point?"
"The entire town doesn't hate David. The entire town doesn't want him to suffer like them. Isn't that right, George?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about." He got up to leave, but Regina locked the door with a wave of her hand.
"That day you visited me in my office to discuss Mary Margaret's case, I stepped out for a moment to talk to Emma. Somehow you knew where my skeleton keys were, and while I was out, you took one. You used that key to break into Dr. Whale's to steal his gun. Then when Henry was in the hospital, you used the same key to steal a bottle of ethyl chloride which you found out online was flammable. The day of the fire, you let yourself into my family's home with that key, poured the ethyl chloride all over my kitchen, before pouring some in my oven and turning it on. You threw the bottle in my trash because the cans were practically empty. You took the bag in the can out and placed the empty bottle underneath. When that didn't work, you kept an eye on Emma until she was vulnerable. The night we searched my trash, you aimed for her, but Snow's light blinded you. Instead, you shot me." Regina took out an evidence bag with a casing, "in your rush to leave, you left this behind. It's a match to the bullets in Dr. Whale's gun that we found in Gold's trash. We printed the bottle and gun. The prints matched the ones on file for you."
"That's a very clever story you've come up with, but you don't have a motive."
"David's brother, James, was your pride and joy. When he died, you thought you could make David be James, but it didn't work. He ruined the deal you had made with King Mitus when he broke off his engagement to your daughter. You tried to make Snow infertile, but they reversed your spell. When Emma and Snow were trapped in the Enchanted Forest, you tried to paint Ruby as a monster and David as an incompetent leader. When that didn't work, you threw Jefferson's hat into a fire to cause David to feel your pain. The pain of losing your family. It's not a story. We have you on camera at the hospital and we have your prints." George tried to leap over the table, but Regina calmly froze him. She stood and ignored the discomfort in her hip, "do you really think you can get one over me? I was the Evil Queen. The only person who ever escaped me was Snow White. Do you know why? She wasn't sloppy." Regina unlocked the door and left. She unfroze the former king and David cuffed him before locking him in a cell. "I would suggest solitary, deputy."
David smiled at Regina. Emma placed a hand on the mayor's back and the two left. Snow walked up to the cell, "you're lucky I am who I am," she said. "You're lucky that Regina has changed because she would have tortured you and I would have killed you." The princess left and Blue used her magic to send him to solitary. She teleported to make sure he was there and locked up. He was and it was all over.
That night, everyone had the first peaceful dinner since the fire. "You were amazing in there," Emma said.
"I can't believe you didn't rip his heart out or set him on fire," Henry added.
"It was tempting." Regina shifted and had a look of discomfort on her face.
"Honey, are you okay?"
"It's just my hip."
"I thought Blue healed you?" Snow asked.
"She took the pain away, but I can feel when it's stiff." The mayor closed her eyes and took deep breaths.
"Regina," Emma quickly moved to the woman, "come on," she helped her girlfriend to her feet, "let's get you to the bathroom." Emma helped Regina make it to the bathroom before she got sick. "Do you need to go to the hospital?"
"No, I'm just nauseous."
"Do you need me to go to the drug store?"
"I already know." She looked up at Emma. Regina was lying on the floor with her head on Emma's lap, "I'm pregnant."
"It took?"
"It took," the two hadn't told anyone that they were going to try for a baby. They weren't sure it would work but decided after Blue healed Regina that they had to at least try.
"Is that why your hip is stiff?"
"No, I've been on it too much. I'm okay now."
Emma helped her up and the two left the bathroom, "are you okay?" Snow asked.
Regina smiled, "I'm pregnant."
"What?" David, Snow, and Henry responded.
"She was inseminated and it took," Emma said with a smile.
The others rushed to hug the two women. It was certainly a happy ending to a terrifying year.
Eight months later, Regina gave birth to twin girls. Regina named one, Odette Margaret, and Emma named the other, Faline Regina. Emma gave Regina a beautiful jewelry set that included earrings, a necklace, and a bracelet. They matched the engagement ring Emma gave Regina right after. Three months later, the two married. Regina was broken when she met Emma. Now, she too had her happily ever after.
