Chapter 7
A/N: A mild warning. This fic is rated T, and will remain rated T, for violence and some sexual content. This opening scene starts spicy, so if that makes you uncomfortable, now is your time to leave, or skim over it. These scenes will pop up periodically from now on, and I'll try to remember to put a content warning at the start of the chapters.
With that out of the way, I hope you all enjoy the chapter, and as always, thank you for reading.
Hands gliding through still damp hair, the taste of kiwi chapstick, the feeling of lips on lips and noses brushing clumsily against each other.
Lucia parted from Amelia, breathing heavily. She stared at the other girl with half lidded eyes, the two of them sitting side by side on Lucia's bed, and they smiled at one another before their lips crashed into each other again. This new experience was all too much, and yet not nearly enough.
It was pretty clear there was an experience gap between them. Lucia tried not to feel too inadequate, knowing that she'd never kissed anyone before, where Amelia obviously had. She tried to not let the idea bother her too much, especially since Amelia was patient, gently correcting her so their teeth didn't knock together or their noses mash.
She felt an arm slip around her waist, and together they took a tumble, now laying on Lucia's bed. Her heart was hammering in her chest. This was all going so fast, but she still didn't object, too in the moment to think straight. The two young women rolled around a bit, exchanging places, wrestling for some kind of dominance over the other, but quick to concede it when the other wanted to be on top.
She felt Amelia's tongue brush against her lips, and her eyes shot wide open. This was a new experience on top of a new experience, but she found herself not wanting to deny her girlfriend, wanting to try out everything new and fun with Amelia together. She barely had a handle on regular kisses, but as their tongues start to dance together she found she didn't care that she was so clumsy at it, just savoring the taste of her hot Elf Girlfriend's mouth.
Only to nearly bite said Elf Girlfriend's tongue in surprise when she heard the front door open, and her mother's voice calling out a greeting that echoed through the little house, "Mija, I'm home!"
Lucia suddenly became hyper-aware of her situation. Laying in her bed, playing tongue twister with another girl, hands all over each other, and she hadn't even bothered to close her bedroom door. Between their hormones, their second close call with a monster pumping adrenaline through them, and just feeling ecstatic to be alive, she wasn't sure how much farther they would have gone if they hadn't been interrupted. It had all felt so good she would have let Amelia do almost anything to her in that moment.
In hindsight, that was a bit of a scary thought.
Lucia sprang away from Amelia, a bright flush on her cheeks as she straightened her wrinkled clothes, to no avail. Amelia didn't look too hurt that her girlfriend had been so quick to separate, just giving her a saucy look that promised this wasn't over as she picked herself up off the bed, sitting on the edge and looking as prim and proper as she could.
Lucia tried to silence the hammering of her heart as the sound of footsteps made their way closer, "Mija? Lucia, are you home?" Her mother's head poked around the corner, "Oh, There you are, I was wondering what you'd want for dinner, I was thinking take-out- Oh."
Camilia's eyes landed on the stranger in her daughter's room. Her eyes drifted from Amelia over to her daughter, eyes asking a silent question and wanting to be introduced.
Lucia opened her mouth, heart caught in her throat. There was a lot to explain, and it had to be done in a way that wasn't absolutely mortifying or got her in trouble for having someone she was dating over without permission. Before she could say anything though, Amelia took charge, hopping out of her seat at the edge of Lucia's bed and stepping with purpose to meet Camila.
"Hello! You must be Lucia's mother! I'm Amelia Bane, a friend of hers from our Summer classes." She offered her hand to shake, which Camila took after a moment's hesitation. Amelia gave it a good and proper pump that looked more akin to a business deal being hashed out than a friendly greeting. "I just moved here, and your daughter has been an absolute delight to be around. I hope I'm not intruding on your dinner plans."
Camila's look of surprise over the new girl swiftly shifted into one of surprise about said girl's behavior, "Oh, you're so well mannered! Of course you're not intruding, You're welcome to join us if you want. I was just about to ask Lucia if she preferred Chinese, or Pizza, and since you'll be joining us we'll leave it to a vote."
Camila raised a hand, "Chinese food." Just as Lucia raised a hand, "Cheese pizza, extra extra cheese."
She was going to take advantage of Luz's absence for all it was worth. No more cheeseless pizza for her!
Amelia looked between the two, and cast her own vote to break the tie, "Chinese, please." She said smugly, clearly sucking up to Lucia's mother.
Lucia shot her a glare, but Camila seemed pleased to have won the vote. "I'll go and order it for delivery now," She smiled, turning to Lucia, speaking in Spanish, "Me gusta tu amiga Lucía, trata de mantener a esta persona cerca."
Lucia rolled her eyes, while Amelia just gave her a confused and curious glance. When Camila was gone, Amelia loosened up a little, and asked, "What did she say?"
"She said she liked you, and that I should keep you close." Lucia translated bashfully.
"Oh did she now?" Amelia purred, closing the distance between them and wrapping her arms around Lucia. "Is this close enough, or should I get closer?"
Lucia playfully shoved Amelia off of her, suppressing a laugh. "What about you? 'A friend from Summer School?' And calling me 'an absolute delight?' Really?"
Amelia's smile faded into a more serious look, "You looked a bit stressed out. I've dated other girls before who weren't ready to come out to their parents yet, for loads of reasons. I wasn't sure what you felt about it, or if your Mom was… one of those people, ehg."
Her eyes looked Lucia up and down in a thinly veiled disguised way of flirting, "And I'll have you know you've been very delightful to me so far."
Lucia felt a large sense of gratitude towards Amelia for taking her feelings and her relationship with her mother into account, and could see where she was coming from, "Thanks, but you don't really need to worry. I might have gotten into a little trouble over having you over without permission, but my Mom is cool with the whole gay thing. Luz came out as bisexual a little over a year ago, and my Mom got her a cake with the bi flag on it and everything."
Amelia let out a sigh of relief, "That's good. My parents are fine with it too, just so we're clear, but I was worried for a moment. Some of those past relationships where I had to keep it a secret were not fun. It's nothing like romance novels tell it. It's stressful, and it hurts not being able to be openly affectionate with someone because the people they love might not love them anymore if they found out the truth."
Lucia pulled Amelia into a hug, a genuine, heartfelt one, "Hey, don't worry about that, not in my house at least. Even if my Mom wasn't cool with it, I'd still flaunt you off to her. I'll tell her all about us later. I think it'd be kind of awkward to tell her right now."
She broke out of the embrace, and gave the girl a smile, "Wanna make a game of it and see how far we can imply we're together in front of her? Whoever is obvious enough about it that she catches on loses?"
Amelia snorted into Lucia's hair, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her shorter girlfriend's head. "That does sound like fun."
"Also, exactly how many other girls have you dated, Bane?"
Amelia patted her girlfriend's head at the tone of jealousy in her voice, "oh, honey, you really don't want the answer to that question."
"I'm so glad you're friends with my hija, Amelia." Camila spoke exuberantly over their dinner, passing the food around as freely as her compliments, "She's been such a wreck, just staring at her phone these past few weeks, waiting for some boy to call her back. I keep telling her she doesn't need them in her life if they're gonna treat her like that!"
Lucia wanted to crawl under the table from embarrassment as Amelia smirked at her over this new information. "I completely agree with you, boys are so overrated, Mrs. Noceda."
"Please, just call me Camila, dear."
"Of course, Camila," Amelia said, testing the name out with a playful smile on her lips. "You know, I'm starting to see where your daughter gets her good looks from, if you don't mind me saying."
Camila laughed and gave Amelia a playful slap on her arm, "Oh, you are just too much!"
The night ended technically on a draw, with her mother none the wiser, but Lucia was ready to concede defeat then and there.
It was later that night, and Lucia was nervously rubbing her hands together in the hallway that connected to the living room, where she knew her mother would be. Amelia had gone home over an hour ago, and now it was time to tell her mother what was going on between them, just like she promised she would to her girlfriend.
Despite knowing her mother would be cool with it, just like she had with Luz, she still felt intimidated by the prospect of sharing this newfound piece of herself with her mother. The idea that, somewhere, on some level, Camila Noceda would love her less as a daughter if she found out that she was gay had worked its way into her brain for some reason, despite her knowing she would be accepted.
She pulled in a rattling breath, her body quivering for a moment at the thought. Once again, Lucia found herself envious of her little sister's bravery, having been able to come out to their mother at thirteen with no prior knowledge that it would go well, where her big sister had shaky legs. As much as they might not always see eye to eye, she had to trust that her Mom would be okay with this. Lucia never ran away from anything, not a fight, and not from anyone's disapproval of who she was.
With that in her mind, she straightened her back and marched right into the living room, only stopping when she was parked in front of her mom. Camila paused from her needlepoint project, glancing at her daughter with bespectacled eyes. After a moment's silence, Camila shook her head, "No."
Lucia blanched, having not even said anything of substance yet, "What do you mean, no? You aren't even going to hear me out?"
"The last time you came up to me looking like that was to ask about going three states over to see a concert with a group of people I hadn't even met. The time before that was even worse. You only ever come talk to me looking that apprehensive when you want something you know I won't like. So I thought I'd save us both the time and just say no." Camila explained, resuming her needlepoint.
Being told "no" outright wasn't exactly making this any easier for Lucia to explain. Lucia let out a frustrated groan, throwing her hands in the air and collapsing into the seat next to her mother, "Would it kill you to listen to me for once?"
Camila took a breath and let out a long suffering sigh, the kind only a mother of an unruly teenager is capable of making. "Okay, I'm sorry, Lucia, go on." She said, though her tone clearly implied she was only humoring her eldest.
Lucia opened her mouth, and faltered. It suddenly occurred to her that through all her fears, and then the bravado to get her out here, she hadn't actually bothered to practice what she had wanted to say. She instinctively curled in on herself, emotionally and physically, pulling her legs up to her chest and wrapping her arms around her knees. "Did you really like Amelia?"
Camila nodded, not looking up from her needlepoint, "Yes, she was a very nice girl."
"Then you won't mind if she's over a lot from now on, then too?"
Camila gave her daughter a bit of side eye, wondering where this was possibly going. "I'm fine with her coming over as often as she wants. As long as I don't have to feed her every time, I already have a hard enough time between you and your sister's endless appetites."
Lucia nodded, hugging herself even tighter, "Good. Good. Because she's, uh, gonna be over a lot. Since, I'm- that is to say, we're… dating. She's my girlfriend."
Lucia jumped when her mother gave a hiss, startled by the sudden sound, only to see that Camila had accidentally poked her thumb with the needle, hard enough to draw a large drop of blood that now dripped onto her needlepoint canvas, staining and ruining what was likely a dozen hours of work.
Camila jammed her thumb in her mouth in an attempt to stop the bleeding, looking rather ridiculous. She quickly stood, setting aside her project and heading out of the room, presumably to find a bandage, leaving Lucia there alone to feel very small. This wasn't going nearly as well as she'd hoped.
When Camila returned, it was to the sight of her daughter, sitting forlornly with a morose expression on her face, still folded in on herself. She was so deep in her own thoughts, stewing in them, that she didn't notice her mother's return, that she was standing in the entryway. As she watched her daughter sink more into herself, Camila felt terrible. She'd been so dismissive of her when she had come to talk, when it was something this big, and she hadn't even set aside what she was doing to listen.
Camila took a slow step towards her daughter, and wrapped her arms around her in a gentle embrace, "I'm sorry, Mija, I shouldn't have been brushing you off, or thinking you just wanted something when you were just worried about what I would think. I'm happy for you, and I'm glad you told me. I'm very proud of you."
She pulled back Lucia's ridiculous, ever present beanie so she could press a kiss on her eldest's forehead. Lucia rubbed at her face with her forearm, holding back misty eyes, "Thanks, mamá."
Not wanting to dwell on her emotions, Lucia asked snarkily, "You're not going to get me a cake like you did with Luz, right?"
Camila returned to her seat beside Lucia, "Well, Luz seemed to like it. But I don't even know what kind of flag to put on it yet."
Lucia smiled at the thought of her sister, who had laughed and cried and got cake all over her face when their mother had presented her with a slice. "Well, the difference between us is that Luz will eat anything with sugar, but I think fondant can go straight down to the pits of hell. As for the flag, I don't know."
She leaned back, kicking her feet up on the coffee table in the way she knew her mother hated, "I haven't figured that out yet. I just know that I like Amelia, and want to date her. I'll figure the rest out later."
Camila reached out, and placed a hand on her daughter's arm, "And that's perfectly alright. Whoever you are, you can take your time and find out at your own pace."
The hand then tightened enough to put just a little pressure on Lucia's arm, "While we're one the subject, you did have someone you were dating come over without my permission while I wasn't here…"
Lucia gulped, hoping against hope she could talk her way out of a grounding.
It was a few days later, and the two teenagers were shopping at the local mall, gathering supplies that they could use for demon hunting. Lucia was beyond disappointed when she couldn't get a rifle from the local hunting supply store without being at least eighteen, but she had made out with a nice new aluminum metal baseball bat. It was inconspicuous enough she could take it just about anywhere, she already knew how to swing like a pro, and best of all, her mother wouldn't object to it like she would if she'd brought any other weapons home with her.
Amelia was a bit more proactive in her own shopping, grabbing things like garlic, crucifixes, and wooden poles she intended to sharpen into stakes. Lucia highly doubted they'd be running into any vampires or the like anytime soon, but she also couldn't fault her girlfriend for being cautious, either. This whole world was new to them, after all.
As they continued to browse through the stores of a rather empty, nearly dead mall, keeping an eye open for anywhere else that might sell something they could use, Amelia shifted her purchases into one hand, so she could entwine her now freed fingers into Lucia's empty hand. She didn't stop there, leaning in close, her body language telling everyone nearby that Lucia was hers, and she was Lucia's.
"How are you always so confident?" Lucia asked, feeling flustered about holding hands in public, despite how few people were even around to see it.
Amelia pursed her lips, thinking back to her past, then shrugged, "You know, I wasn't always. I sorta just got shoved into the role, and pretended until it's who I was."
Well, now Lucia was really interested, and this could distract her from the sound of her heart thumping, "Really? How'd that happen?"
"Well, remember how I said I discovered I was a lesbian during an embarrassing moment involving the women's locker room?" Amelia asked.
"Oh, am I getting that story now?" Lucia had to hear this, and gave Amelia an ecstatic grin.
Amelia rolled her eyes, but started her story anyway. "Okay, I was fifteen, and was the newest member of my old school's Cheer squad. So, that means I spent hours around a bunch of the hottest, most popular girls in school. But I didn't realize that I was into them until after the first day of practice, when we all went to change out of the uniforms and into our school clothes."
The two girls walked as they talked, passing a gimmicky T-shirt kiosk, earning a hopeful look from the employee who managed it, only to walk right by without a second glance. There wasn't anything there they could use, so Amelia continued with her story. "So, there I am, with a dozen other girls, in our underwear. And I'm staring. A lot. And it hits me, that I am so very gay. And then I absolutely cannot pull my eyes away. It was humiliating, and overwhelming, and a little pervy on my end, if we're being honest."
Lucia gave a chuckle at that. "And then what happened?"
"I'm getting there," Amelia assured her, playfully swinging their arms as they walked, "So, the Cheer Captain, who was much older than me and close to graduation, notices me looking all red, and asks if I'm feeling okay. It's Arizona, it gets outrageously hot there, so heatstroke is very much a thing, and I guess I looked about ready to pass out. And now I'm looking at her, and without meaning to I blurt out that I want her to go out with me."
Lucia's mouth dropped open, and she let out a chortle at her girlfriend's past expense. Even Amelia couldn't help but grin in hindsight. "I'm sorry," Lucia apologized, "I'm ruining the story, go on."
"I think you know what happened next. The entire locker room laughed at me. Tiny, freshman Amelia, standing around in her Hello Kitty underwear, just asked this gorgeous Cheer Captain who was almost three years older than her out. I wanted to roll over and die right then and there."
The mirth left Amelia's voice, "So, of course, these are cheerleaders, and they gossip. A lot. By the end of the school week, everyone knows what I did, and that I'm a lesbian."
Lucia suddenly felt this wasn't the laughing matter she'd made it out to be. While she wasn't going to hide who she was when school started back up, she couldn't imagine what it'd be like to be in Amelia's shoes, only just figuring herself out only to have no chance to tell anyone on her terms before what basically was her entire world knows. It made her feel silly for being so nervous about something as small as holding hands. She gave Amelia's hand a squeeze, "I am so sorry that happened."
Amelia nodded slowly, with downcast eyes at the memory. "I wanted to crawl into my locker and hide until the semester was over, until I started hearing other versions about how things went down."
Her mood picking up a little, Amelia chugged along, "The gossip had spread enough that the facts were getting distorted. Suddenly, I wasn't the sad, creepy little girl who humiliated herself, I was this gutsy young woman, confident enough to ask the Cheer Captain out despite her being an upperclassman."
"The thing about rumors and gossip though, is that the story was going to change again in a day or two, if I didn't do something to help solidify it. So, I bucked up, summoned up all my courage, and went straight back up to that cheerleader during lunch, and in front of everyone in the cafeteria I said, 'You never gave me a yes or no answer, should I pick you up on Friday?'"
Lucia whistled at the guts her girlfriend had. Lucia had stood up for herself loads of times, and picked plenty of fights, but asking someone out in front of everyone sounded scarier to her than any of those put together. And she was counting the demon. "How did that go for you? Did she say yes?"
Amelia smiled sadly, and shook her head. "I got shot down, hard. That in itself really hurt, but I knew I had at least saved my image. Everyone bought the current version of the rumor as the truth, and thought I was the most confident chick in the room from then on. That did actually score me a few dates shortly after, but those were just people trying to cling on to my newfound popularity."
With a huff, Amelia's face scrunched up in distaste as she remembered her first few girlfriends, "When people are chasing popularity and rumors about you, they tend to act like they know you, while never actually making the attempt."
Lucia stopped in her tracks, giving a tug of her hand to pull Amelia into a stop and in close. "Sounds like their loss to me. I'm glad I'm getting the chance to learn more about you, and getting to know you."
Amelia became flustered over the genuineness of Lucia's statement, red seeping in to paint her cheeks, "I'm glad you get the chance to know me, too."
Lucia laughed at the phrasing, and Amelia gaped, then groaned when she realized what she had said, "I mean, I'm glad I'm getting to know you as well! Stop laughing at me, Noceda!"
Lucia, in between chuckles pressed a kiss to either one of Amelia's cheeks, enjoying that she was the one to make her partner rosy this time, even if she had to stand on the tips of her toes to reach. "And I mean it, Cariño, that's not just a flirty line to get you to make out with me behind the deli later. I want to know everything about you, or at least, as much as you want to tell me."
Amelia looked dazzled, like it was the first time she had ever heard those words before. "I- uh, thanks, Lucia. I feel the same wa-"
They were interrupted by the sound of glass shattering, and some poor underpaid employees screaming and running for their lives as a local florist and garden care shop seemed to be under attack. What looked like tentacles, but on closer inspection were animated vines, were thrashing around, grabbing anything they fell upon, wrapping around it and crushing them into bits and pieces.
The girls both let out a pair of frustrated sighs. It seemed like every time they were about to have a tender moment together, something went wrong. And in this case, it looked like someone grew an evil plant.
They threw aside their bags for now, Lucia hoisting her new bat up and resting it on her shoulder at the same time Amelia began to draw a circle in the air, readying her magical fire.
Luz jerked up, realizing that she was dozing off in the middle of her lesson. Willow put a hand on her shoulder to keep the excited human form jumping out of her seat, and slid her a copy of some notes she'd been taking in Luz's stead.
Luz hadn't been sleeping well, between the guilt of keeping secrets from her Mom and sister, and trying to prepare for the horror that was Grom. She was confident she could handle anything the monster could throw at her, she'd been practicing as much as possible, but it helped to be prepared.
All of those worries on top of her extensive workload. She did take all nine courses Hexside offered, after all. And while she wasn't spending nine times the amount of time in school compared to everyone else, taking each course more like a sample platter, she did have a lot more homework she was expected to get done by her teachers.
Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes once more, Luz paid attention. This seemed important, after all, since today's lesson was on dangerous plants.
The one the teacher brought in today was in a giant pot, stored inside of a clear container that must be some kind of enchanted glass. The plant was large, bigger than the teacher's desk and consisted of a bunch of deep red petals that drifted into brighter, sunset-like colors the closer you got to the center.
Unlike other flowers Luz had seen, this one had teeth. The sides of the petals were lined with them, flexing and twisting as the petals moved in a breeze that didn't exist in the box that contained it. Must be some type of camouflage.
It also had a lot of vines, or roots that were tapping against the glass, testing it for weaknesses.
Luz grimaced. Normally she liked her plant track classes, they got to grow such beautiful magical flowers with all sorts of abilities. But it was moments like these she was reminded this wasn't the PG-fantasy world she'd envisioned in her dreams.
"This," The teacher began, gesturing to the plant, "is the Isleium Praereptor, also known as the common Witch Eating Plant."
Luz frowned, wondering just how often someone got eaten by one of these things for it to be known as 'common.' Knowing the Boiling Isles, probably a lot.
The teacher continued with the lesson, "It's an extremely dangerous flesh eating plant. It can grow from it's seeds to full size within hours, if not minutes, if it has the right nutrients. It can spit out a sticky sap when threatened, and it's roots are often used as appendages to destroy rival trees that might threaten it, hog it's resources, or just to drag a helpless witch or demon into it's waiting maw."
The class seemed very thankful that it was safely behind glass, and unable to ensnare them. Until, that was, the teacher spoke again, "in today's lesson, you will all be fighting it. Anyone who survives gets a passing grade, and will know how to escape next time they encounter one in the wild. Good luck!"
With a snap of his fingers, the containment unit caging the monster plant disappeared, and havoc engulfed the classroom.
Lucia beat the plant's roots back with her bat, only for the blunt object to have no apparent effect. It instead wrapped it's vines around the aluminum and yanked it from Lucia's hands, though it appeared to be too sturdy for the plant to crush it.
Now unarmed and defenseless, Lucia turned to her partner, hoping she was faring better with her fire. To her despair, with each fireball Amelia cast, the damned plant would just hack up some kind of sap and spit it on anything engulfed in the flames, extinguishing them before they could cause any harm.
To make matters worse, all this casting was to Amelia's detriment, as she already appeared to be tired. Lucia could see they weren't going to last long if they didn't make an extreme change in tactics.
Turning around and looking through the shop, she tried to find something, anything to use, and her eyes landed on bottles of weed killer. She grabbed one of the jugs, and hurled it at the monstrous plant, only for it to be smacked out of the air before it could land in it's open jaw.
Lucia gritted out every curse she knew in two languages through her teeth. They weren't going to get anywhere with these roots in the way. They couldn't get any closer to the plant's core, and if they didn't hurry and kill it, or make their escape now, they were going to end up snagged up by one of the vines and devoured.
She'd seen enough art on the internet about that kind of thing to know she didn't want to be eaten alive, so went back to searching for another option. Weaving through the aisles, desperately looking around, eyes darting for any tool that could help them. Her eyes landed on a miniature chainsaw, but her hopes plummeted when she realized it needed gas to operate. But beside it was a much better option.
Grabbing two small gardening hatchets, made specifically for getting through obtrusive tree roots and removing them from flower beds, she called out to Amelia, and tossed one her girlfriend's way, thankful the blade has a protective plastic case on it because otherwise she wasn't going to be able to weave her way through the ever growing system of roots that was encompassing the store to safely deliver it.
Removing the plastic shell, she swung hard and true, and sliced clean through one of the roots making its way towards her. The plant writhed, filling Lucia with the question of if it could feel pain, and if her vegetables could as well, and if that meant she contributed to a lot of suffering. She shook her head, and went back to the original plan, slicing her way through the plant until she'd made her way back to the aisle with the weed killer.
"Amelia!" She called out, eyes landing on her girlfriend a few aisles over who was busy kicking plant ass, carving her own path towards the center of the store, where the thing resided. The Bane girl turned towards the sound of her voice, and with another toss, a weed killer bottle was thrown her way.
With a nod, the two silently formulated the same plan, cutting from two different directions until they'd made their way to the demon flower itself. As if sensing it's incoming demise, it folded in on itself, pulling it's petals inward and closed its mouth, but that didn't stop Lucia from lifting her hatchet back and hacking, over and over again,
"God. Damn. Audrey. Two. Mother. Fucker!" She cried out with each blow.
Finally there was an opening in the petals, jagged from the brutal cuts of the hatchets, and together the two young women broke open the bottles of deadly chemicals and poured them into the open wound, and into the maw of the beastly plant.
The two stumbled out of the store, tired, bruised, and covered in sap, but feeling extremely successful. This was the first monster they'd managed to take out that wasn't an ambush, and proof of their strength and teamwork.
Lucia spun the hatchet in her hands, a souvenir of their battle as they made their way back to their previously discarded bags. "I know I joked about making out behind the deli later, but damn if I couldn't go for a sandwich right about now. Kicking that much ass works up an appetite."
Amelia chuckled, tossing her own hatched in with her things, sure the owner of the store wouldn't mind they'd taken them, if they hadn't already been eaten, "Sounds like a date, Noceda."
Lucia lay in bed, having turned in early for the night. Taking out a giant man-eating plant really took it out of a girl. Beside her, on her nightstand, her phone chimed the Azura movie theme, and she realized it was the first time she had heard from Luz in a few days.
It was a group text, a message sent to her and their mother, explaining how she'd tell them everything some day. Lucia smiled, amazed how Luz could make even a boring old summer camp sound like an adventure.
She considered telling her about what had happened with her and Amelia, and how they were dating now, but after a moment of debating it, she decided to save it for when her sister got home. She'd treasure the look on her sister's face so much more this way.
Instead, she cheekily sent back an emoji of a thumbs up, turned off her phone, rolled over and promptly fell asleep.
A/N: I have never seen Little Shop of horrors, but my friend is a big fan, so I threw in a monster plant for them.
I hope I did Camila justice in this chapter. She's a loving parent, but she sometimes just doesn't listen to what her children are trying to tell her, and that can hurt them. She does the same in canon in basically all of her appearances.
If we ever get comics based of the Owl House(and we should!), I want a comic that features Luz's nervousness about coming out as Bi to her mom. A few other fics have had Camila get Luz a bi flag themed cake in them, so I borrowed that here as well. Plagiarism! The heart and soul of FanFiction, everybody!
As always, thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoyed this chapter. If you want to leave a comment, I'd love to hear from you, feedback, criticism, or just a compliment on how handsome I look today will do.
