A/N: Here he comes,
walking down the street
gets the funniest looks from everyone he meets!
Hey, hey it's Gemini!
And people say he's writing around!
But he's too busy singing to put anybody down!
I am so sorry. This is being done in the early morning, I'm tired, I'm sleepy, I'm a bit out of it, so things are gonna be silly! Have a fluffy chapter! I love you!
Another beautiful day at Hexside, another beautiful day to hang out with her friends and girlfriend, that's what Luz thought. And it really was. The autumn season was starting to show on the isles, the weather cooling down, the sun setting a little earlier. Everything was still pretty orange though, from the leaves to the grass, but Luz was still used to that.
According to her phone's calendar, they were already in October, though the Boiling Isles operated on longer and fewer months, and Luz couldn't quite remember what today's date was. But it did mean that Luz's fifteenth birthday was coming up soon, and she was excited for that. It was her favorite day of the year, after all, landing on her favorite holiday, Halloween!
Not that the Boiling Isles had Halloween. Every day was Halloween here, and she loved that about the Isles. It almost seemed like destiny wanted her to be a witch, being born on October 31st, All Hallow's Eve. And this year, she wouldn't have to dress up as a witch(of which she learned humans had vastly stereotyped as either boil-ridden hags, or skimpy, sexy spellslingers), since she really was one. And was friends with some. And was dating one!
With her classes over for the day, and a grin on her face, Luz skipped down the halls to meet with her friends at their usual spot. Her smile stretched to impossible lengths when she saw they were all there waiting for her, and she ran the rest of the way, limbs flailing at ridiculous angles as she did so.
Willow was looking the same as ever, a book about gardening in her arms that at a glance Luz knew was for personal reading, and not part of her plant track courses. It was so nice to know her best friend was taking classes for something she was clearly so passionate about.
Gus was chatting animatedly with Willow, his arms flailing wildly as he did so. Luz swore that every time she saw him he was just a little bit taller, easily standing a few inches above her now. Luz briefly wondered if he was going to get as tall and lanky as Eda, and stifled her giggles at the thought.
Amity, gosh, Amity looked great today. She always looked great, especially now, leaning against a locker like a cool kid. Her pink hair had clearly been redyed, the color a shade more vibrant and her roots not showing at all. She had a little bit of makeup on today, but Luz was sure it was to cover up the subtle bags under her eyes, and less for the fashion.
Without meaning to, Luz brushed past her two friends to immediately envelop her girlfriend in a hug, and planted a big, wet, noisy kiss on her cheek, eliciting giggles from said girl, who was playfully trying to shove her off while at the same time returning the hug with gusto. "Luz, stop, you're embarrassing me in front of our friends" Amity teased, her tone clearly indicating she wanted more and for Luz not to stop.
Gus elbowed Willow, "Hey, remember when we got hugs, too? Those were good times."
"Oh, leave them alone, Gus. It's been a whole hour since they saw each other, they need this." Willow commented back with a snort.
Luz squeezed Amity tight, and shot her friends a faux glare, "I'll have you know it's been an hour and a half, and we were in class, so I didn't get to be this mushy."
"Pay the peasants no mind, my sweet," Amity said haughtily, pressing a return kiss to Luz's cheek, "They're just jealous they don't have awesome girlfriends of their own."
Gus crossed his arms in dejection, and Willow raised a finger to object, but both stayed silent. As joking as Amity had been, she did have a point.
Luz detached herself from Amity, and wrapped an arm around each of her friend's shoulders, pulling them both in close, "There, no one is going without hugs now, happy? I'm saving all my smooches for my awesome girlfriend though, so you'll just have to deal. Oooor, smooch each other instead."
Willow gave Luz a shove and a roll of her eyes, "Luz, what did we say about shipping your friends together?"
"Don't?" Luz asked quietly, a pout on her lips.
"Exactly. Though it's nice you think I've got a shot with someone as cool as Willow," Gus winked and finger gunned at his Plant Track friend, who just laughed.
"Don't, Gus, you'll encourage her."
Luz turned her attention back to Amity, focusing on the bags under her eyes and her tired expression, "Hey, Ams, you okay? You seem really exhausted lately."
Amity smiled despite herself, "I'm fine Luz. Darius is just a really demanding teacher, but I have been learning a lot. He's been having me spar with Abomitons during the day, and reading a bunch of these really thick books on Abominations from his own private library at night, so-"
She yawned in the middle of her sentence, raising a finger up while she did so to hold her place, then continued, "- so I've been up really late. I'm physically and mentally exhausted, but I've also never felt stronger, if that makes sense?"
Luz pressed another kiss to her girlfriend's cheek, "As long as you aren't pushing yourself too hard."
Amity felt like melting, after a lifetime of dealing with parents who wanted her to push herself constantly, it felt nice to have someone tell her otherwise, "I know, and I'll try to pace myself. I'm the one in charge of my studies this time, my Dad put me in charge when he gave me the choice, so if I need to, I can dial it back."
Gus leaned in towards Willow, "You think if we weren't here, they'd be making out right now?" He fake whispered, loud enough for Luz and Amity to hear.
Willow nodded, "I'm surprised they haven't already forgotten we're here and started already."
Amity blushed, while Luz gave an exaggerated groan, "We're not ignoring you guys on purpose! Come on, let's do something fun together."
Luz made to grip Amity's hand in her own, only for the Blight girl to weave her hand out of the way, "Actually, before we do that, I need to… talk with Willow for a bit."
Willow raised a brow, "I've been here for the past ten minutes with you, why didn't you say something before?"
Amity grimaced, then faked a smile, "Oh, no reason, just tired is all. Yup. Come on Willow, let's go over here for a sec. Be right back, you two." Amity grabbed Willow by the wrist, and dragged her away despite the shorter girl's protests.
Luz and Gus watched them as they left. "Huh, I wonder what's got into them?" Gus asked.
Luz fidgeted, "No clue. Hey, Gus, can I talk to you for a second too?"
"Yeah, sure, go ahead." Gus gave a supportive thumbs up.
"Is it weird that I haven't kissed Amity yet?" Luz asked quickly.
Gus's face furrowed, "You were just all over her a second ago."
"I mean on the lips, Gustomer. I've kissed all over her face, but every time I'm about to kiss her where it matters most, we get interrupted, or something ruins the moment."
"It's just, am I over thinking things, or something?" Amity asked Willow, who listened intently.
"I think it's perfectly fine that you two haven't kissed yet," Willow said calmly, giving Amity a soft pat on the back. "You've only been dating like, six weeks, right?"
"That's like, forever!" Gus exclaimed, "You have to kiss her now, or maybe she won't think you're into her."
Luz bounced from foot to foot, face crimson at the prospect. "But what should I do to make it happen? Should I just go for it?"
Gus shook his head, "No!"
Willow nodded, "Yes! You're making such a big deal over this in your head. If you want to kiss her, then you should just do it. Ask her about it, or heck, if the mood is right, just plant one on her."
Amity felt too embarrassed over this conversation and the imagery it was bringing to her mind to look at Willow eye-to-eye. "Alright, so, if I feel like it's been long enough, I should just kiss her. Don't keep putting it off until the perfect moment, or make a huge fuss out of it with a big event."
"You need to make a huge event out of it!" Gus argued, "Dinner, fireworks, everything! She's a Blight girl, you need to go big, or go home."
Luz nodded in agreement, "And here I was just going to kiss her. She'd probably have been so mad! Thanks for the advice Gus, I'll make sure to throw her the best date possible, and then we can finally lock lips!"
Gus shook his head, "Please, don't put that picture in my head, Luz."
"Thanks so much for the advice, Willow, you're always such a big help, I really don't deserve you." Amity cried, pulling her childhood best friend into a tight hug.
"Don't talk like that, Amity." Willow said softly, rubbing Amity's back to calm her down.
"I'm going to name my first born after you." Amity insisted, rather seriously.
Willow grimaced, "Please don't put the mental image of you and Luz making babies in my head."
The four friends reconvened, ready for their day out together. Luz grinned at Amity, already planning loads of romantic stuff to do together, and Amity returned a smile, none the wiser to Luz's plans. Meanwhile, Gus and Willow exchanged their own fondly exasperated glances, as if to say, "These two are hopeless without us."
The four walked down the halls of Hexside, Luz taking Amity's hand, "After we're all done here, hermosa, I was thinking we could maybe go on a date together? Want to meet me at my place tomorrow?"
Amity nodded quickly, a blush painting her face as she squeezed Luz's hand tighter, hoping her girlfriend didn't notice how sweaty her palms were getting, "Absolutely! Will early afternoon work?"
With that settled, both Noceda and Blight girls walked off to have some fun with Gus and Willow, both thinking that tomorrow was when they were going to get that kiss.
Amity arrived at the Owl House a quarter past two in the afternoon, floating near the large window on the front of the building that led into Luz's bedroom. She smiled to herself, hoping to surprise her girlfriend and knocked on the glass, only realizing as she did so that Luz might not be decent on the other side.
She blushed and hurriedly buried the thought as the window opened readily, and Luz greeted her in awe. "Amity? Why didn't you just use the door?"
The witch kicked her dangling legs, "I thought this seemed a bit more… romantic?" She leaned against the window sill, hoping that she looked cool and collected, despite the racing of her heart.
Luz blinked, then sent her a dazzling smile, "Well I can't argue with that!"
Amity smiled back, and realized that this could be the perfect opportunity to steal a kiss and get it over with. She looked cool, the mood was mildly romantic, and they were about to go on a date. All she had to do was take Willow's advice and go for it. She puckered her lips, leaning in to kiss the human, who swiftly ignored her and hopped on the back of her staff, causing the balance to shift so hard it nearly knocked them both off.
"Sorry! Sorry!" Luz screeched, clinging to Amity, and despite the near disaster, the pinkette couldn't complain about the results. Not when Luz's arms were wrapped tight around her. She had all day to kiss her after all, she could just try again later.
"Where are we heading, Luz?" Amity asked, curious as to the destination since Luz had been tight lipped about it since she'd asked Amity on this date.
"It's a secret!" Luz insisted, revealing nothing.
Amity giggled at the ridiculousness of it all, "I can't take us there if I don't have any directions!"
"Then let me drive, I'll get us there, and keep it a surprise!" Luz then reached around Amity's waist and gripped the staff, her arms resting on her girlfriends hips and turning Amity into a sputtering mess who couldn't object to having her own Palisman taken over for the day trip.
Luz had Amity close her eyes during the tailend of the flight, a frightening prospect that had Amity clinging to the staff under her as she was blindly guided through the air. It didn't help her vertigo that Luz had such shaky control from behind Amity, and she felt sweet relief when they finally came to a stop and her feet were safely on the ground.
She was so relieved to be back on the ground that she didn't even notice where she was for a few minutes as she caught her breath and steadied her legs. It was only when Luz started leading her up the stone steps that she realized she recognized the place, though recognition was far from needed when the building had the words "Bonesborough Museum of Unnatural History" plastered up in large, friendly letters above the entrance.
"Do you like it?" Luz asked eagerly, hardly containing her erratic physical energy, bouncing on the spot, doing something Amity knew to be called stimming.
Amity did very much like this idea for a date. It was romantic, fun, and educational, all things Amity enjoyed. It had also been a while since she'd visited the museum, so there was plenty new she was sure to see, not to mention this was likely Luz's first trip here. "I love it!"
The two stared at each other for a moment, and once more Amity felt the urge to just go for it, and press her lips to Luz's. The thought was almost overwhelming, making her entire face burn red, but she needed to power through the tense feelings it left her with if she was ever going to do it. She leaned in and-
-caught Luz's cheek as the human turned her head to look back at the museum. Luz froze as she registered the kiss, pressing her hand to the spot and looked absolutely dazzled, grinning wildly before taking Amity's hand and pulling her along and up the remaining steps so they could go inside.
The two young lovebirds wandered around the museum aimlessly for a while, Luz feeling a little overwhelmed by it all. Everything here was pretty new for her eyes, never getting a chance to really explore the wilds of the Boiling Isles or see all the different biomes the Titan's body spawned.
From the tar pits located in the left armpit, where many ancient demon bones had been found, to the bog swamps where the Titan's gallbladder used to reside, the bones and examples of the landscapes astounded the human.
"Oh my gosh, are those dinosaur bones?" Luz squealed excitedly, racing over to one exhibit, a giant skeleton that had been reconstructed and displayed for all to see.
"Nope, that's a Bogwater Crocodile," Amity supplied, pointing to the information display beside it that Luz hungrily began to read. "What's a dinosaur?"
"… Wait, these aren't fossils?" Luz asked, her voice suddenly small as she read the placard, and realizing that this wasn't some long extinct creature as much as it was a common sight in that area of the Titan.
"What's a fossil?" Amity asked, raising a brow at the strange word.
"… We are never visiting the Gallbladder, Corazón."
Amity made many attempts to kiss Luz during their trip through the museum, some subtle, others she barely managed to hold back from grabbing Luz by either side of the face and holding her down to try and do it. Something always came up, and if Amity was honest with herself, it almost seemed like Luz was breaking off the more natural moments on purpose.
Amity pushed back the doubts building in her mind and shook her head. Luz cared for her, she wouldn't do that. Instead, Amity focused on Luz as she explained Dinosaurs, large creatures that roamed the Human Realm an indescribably long time ago, and something called Jurassic Park, which sounded like some kind of necromancy attempt gone horribly wrong.
"Those poor people," Amity clasped her hand over her mouth, and looked on in horror as Luz started to laugh at those who had suffered.
"It's just a story, Ams, it didn't actually happen! The Dinosaurs were totally real, though, just not the park."
After seeing all the dead bones they could stomach, as well as some very much alive bones towards the Undead Wing of the museum, the two girls left hand in hand. "I still have one more surprise for you before we call this date," Luz grinned as they got back onto Amity's staff, this time Luz sitting up front for finer control over their ride.
The pair soared over Bonesborough, taking in the sights. The sun had already started to set on the Isles, casting everything in a warm, orange glow, making the mood feel even more romantic as the chilly fall air started to kick in.
Luz landed them on top of a hill overlooking the town, and quickly handed Amity back her staff. Before Amity could comment on the scenery, Luz took off, throwing herself into a nearby bush. "Luz, what are you doing?"
Luz emerged triumphantly, covered in leaves and twigs and hoisting a basket. "Here it is! Glad nothing managed to find it before we got here. I stashed this baby here this morning. Ready for a romantic picnic dinner date?"
Amity perked up, and gave a quick nod, cheeks shimmering red. Luz opened the basket and pulled out a blanket, draping it over the ground and beckoned Amity to sit on it as she plopped down on top herself. She reached back inside her basket of goodies, and pulled out a pair of sandwiches and juice boxes, passing Amity hers to eat.
Amity munched on her sandwich, ignoring the view of the town below, only having eyes for the girl across from her. Luz had put a lot of effort into such an impromptu date. Amity found herself setting the food aside, and leaning over the blanket, intent on finishing her own goal of the day and finally claiming Luz's lips as her own, when it happened again. Luz jerked away, and this time, Amity knew it was on purpose.
Amity visibly deflated, shoulders slumped as she wondered what she was doing wrong. Was this a human thing she didn't know about? Did- did Luz not want to kiss her?
Amity closed her eyes, and tried to think back to Willow's advice. "Ask her about it, or heck, if the mood is right, just plant one on her." That was what the Plant Track girl had said, right?
Amity sighed, and realized she might be going about this the wrong way. She'd been so focused on the latter half of that advice, she had ignored the first half. Ask Luz about it. Luz was her girlfriend, she'd be open to talking if Amity just made the effort.
"Luz?" Amity asked quietly. "Why haven't you kissed me yet?"
Luz froze up, her mouth tight around the straw of her juice box. "What?"
"I've been trying to kiss you all day, and you keep pulling back. Do you not want to kiss me? Am I moving too fast?" Amity asked, wringing her hands self consciously.
Luz threw aside her drink, "What? No! Amity, I've been wanting to kiss you forever!"
Both girls blushed deeply at that brazen confession, and Luz tried her best to continue. "I just… I asked Gus for advice, and he said I wasn't making a big enough deal out of it, so I planned this big date today, and I was going to do it in… well, just a moment."
"A moment?" Amity asked curiously, but then shook her head, "I asked Willow for advice and she told me I was making too big a deal out of it, and I should just go for it. Which I have all day!"
Luz internally beat herself up, "I thought you might be, but I thought maybe that was in my head, so I kept pulling away to not get off track of the plan!" She slapped her own forehead and let out a groan.
Amity laughed, the irony of the day making itself clear. Before she could properly respond to Luz's admission of stupidity, a bang went off in the distance that made Amity jump.
Turning her head, she could see the sky light up, colored lights flashing into existence. "Fireworks?"
Luz nodded, reaching out and placing her hand over Amity's on the blanket. "Yeah, that's what I was waiting for. I bought a bunch yesterday and gave them to King to set off for me. He's running around down there with a bunch of fire glyphs right now, probably having the time of his life."
Amity watched as another rocket flared up into the air and exploded, sending a shower of stardust across the sky. Turning to Luz, she could see the lights reflecting off the humans eyes, which were aimed entirely at her as well. The two leaned in, eager to finally get their kiss in, when-
-A sudden breeze rolled by, sending an autumn wind through that chilled them to the bone. Shivering, the girls laughed together as their plan to kiss had once again been stopped, this time by a force of nature. Amity pat the blanket under them with a smile, "Do you wanna?"
Luz grinned and nodded, and the two rose off the ground, lifting the blanket up with them. They sat back down on the grass, and Luz threw the warm blanket over their shoulders and they huddled close together for warmth. "Snug as a bug in a rug," Luz rhymed with a cheesy smile.
"You should have been a poet," Amity smirked, snuggling against her human.
"My world couldn't handle my sick rap beats, that's why they sent me here," Luz joked, leaning back against her girlfriend.
The two burst into giggles, and as one they turned to face the other. No more distractions, no more excuses, nothing more to get in their way. Both girls leaned in slowly, eagerly, until finally their lips met, and more than one type of firework went off that night.
The kiss was quick, and chaste, and a little clumsy, Luz's nose bonking against Amity's as they broke apart. But it was their kiss, and that made it perfect in their eyes.
They stayed together, watching the fireworks until King inevitably ran out, and then they stayed and watched the stars late into the night, exchanging a kiss or two more for good measure before Amity rode Luz back to the Owl House, and returned home, more content than she'd felt in her entire life.
Lucia gasped for air, leaning against her bat for support as she kneeled on the cold hard ground. It had been an amazing fight, one for the ages, but together she and Amelia had managed to defeat the Hand Drake, and didn't lose their souls or get too maimed in the process.
The great beast lay on its side in the middle of a parking lot, it's body pierced by many pillars of ice. Lucia thanked whatever gods were watching over them that they lived in such a small town, and that no one was out too late. If this was a big city, they wouldn't have lasted ten minutes before someone had spotted them and this was all over the news.
A bit of a way off, Amelia was also on her knees, panting heavily from the strain of so many spells. But she knew she still had one more left to perform, the first one she'd ever managed to do, and the one that always cleaned up messes like this. Breathing heavily, she lifted a shaky hand, and with a twirl of her finger summoned forth a fire bright enough to light up the night, engulfing the downed beast in its heat and wiping it off the face of the Earth without a trace.
Lucia stood on shaky legs and stumbled towards her girlfriend, fishing out her phone to send Vee a quick text that they had survived, then looped her arm under Amelia's and lifted the tired woman to her feet. She planted a kiss to her girlfriend's cheek, happy to be alive, "Come on, you don't live too far from here, I'll walk you home."
Amelia nodded in appreciation, "Thanks. Just give me a sec, and you won't have to carry me. I can walk on my own."
When the shock wore off, and the adrenaline still pumping through their veins, it wasn't long before they were moving around like normal, chatting down the streets like normal teenagers would, not mindful of the late hour in the slightest.
"I'm glad I'm able to sneak out with you again," Lucia stretched as she talked, hoping that would decrease how sore she'd be in the morning when the adrenaline wore off and her bruises had time to swell up. "You couldn't have taken that thing alone."
Amelia shoved her, almost making Lucia tumble, "Shut it, I could absolutely have kicked its ass on my own. If it had one, it was fingers all the way down as far as I could tell. I just didn't want you to feel left out."
"Psh, sure, corazón, you totally could have handled a literal dragon alone." Lucia rolled her eyes playfully, bumping Amelia back.
"Drake," The Bane girl corrected snootily.
Lucia smirked fondly, and leaned in to steal a kiss, "Dork."
"Dumbass." Amelia teased back, leaning in for another.
Hand in hand they continued down the road, until they made it to Amelia's modest home. A single story house in the middle of the suburbs, nearly identical to every other house on the block. A pink flamingo sat in the yard as the only stand out decoration, and Lucia was halfway sure Amelia had been the one to place it there.
The two walked to the door, where Lucia knew they had to part. Pressing a kiss to her girlfriend's knuckles, the Latina girl opened her mouth to bid farewell and goodnight, only for Amelia to interrupt.
"My parents aren't home!" Amelia said, loudly and awkwardly. Coughing into her hand, she tried again, "My parents are out of town, and won't be back for another day or two. So, you really don't have to leave… if you don't want to."
Amelia's face was blistering red, and she was unable to meet her partner's eyes. It took a moment for what Amelia was saying to sink into Lucia's skull, and as it did she nearly dropped the other girl's hand in surprise, only barely managing to keep a grip on it.
Blinking slowly, mouth suddenly very dry, Lucia nodded, "Y-yeah, sure. I can, I can pop in for a bit. Ma- maybe stay a night?"
Amelia blindly reached for the doorknob, her heart pounding and embarrassment rising as she repeatedly missed it, only to find it was locked. Grinning sheepishly, she let go of Lucia's hand so she could dig through her pockets for the key, and the two hastily made their way inside the dark house.
Lucia shut the door behind them, and with a click, locked the door.
Remember way back in chapter 1, I said there was a scene that was giving me trouble, so I put it off to finish later? The Lumity Kiss was that scene. It was such a struggle to write, because its such a big moment, and nothing I could come up with felt good enough. Hopefully, this one was sweet, even if I'm still not entirely satisfied with it myself.
Also, seems to be a night of firsts between the Noceda and Blight siblings. We'll be checking in with Lucia next chapter, so stay tuned for that!
Leave a comment or two, or ten, I eat them up like potato chips. Actually, no, potato chips are too oily and make me nauseous. I eat comments like candy!
