A/N: Not much to say here, outside of that I'm always grateful to the comments and readers who have stuck with me so far! You guys are great!
Eda's hands were currently doing the dishes, while her feet were resting beside the couch, where the rest of Eda's body lay, tired from her early morning lessons. Why Luz insisted on having them before her own classes boggled Eda's mind. Why would anyone want to get up that early in the morning when it meant they couldn't stay up late drinking appleblood the previous night?
Eda didn't have a problem. It was only a problem when she ran out, then had to deal with Hooty while sober.
"Hoot hoot!" Speak of the devil, there was his grating voice. Guess someone was at the door. Sighing, she sat up, beckoning her feet to rejoin her, then made her way to the kitchen for her hands. She hoped it was Amber, she missed that kid, and the rest of the BATS, though for safety reasons the others didn't dare visit.
Eda dried her hands just as a knock sounded at the door, "I'm coming, I'm coming, hold your hippogriffs!" She threw aside her hand towel onto the counter and marched for the door, hearing Hooty's animated chatter with whoever was there until she threw open the door.
"Eda! It's Lulu! She came all this way to visit me!" Hooty cried joyful tears, spilling them everywhere as he twirled in circles in his door hole. Sure enough, standing on the other side was Lilith, Eda's own darling older sister, who seemed happy to see her.
Eda took a look at her sister, noting how she'd changed in the months since she'd left. Her hair dye was fading, revealing more gray hair, as well as her natural red at the roots. It wasn't as straight as it'd been either, but not as poofy and curly as she used to have it as a teenager, either, and had been cut short to less than half its length.
The dorky, oversized glasses had returned, though, covering half of the older woman's face. Other than that, the Ex-head of the Emperor's coven hadn't changed much. She stood in Eda's doorway, her staff in hand and a smile framing her face as she listened to Hooty's happy cries, and cooed over him, "Yes, I'm here Hootcifer. And we'll have a lot of catching up to do, but I also need to have some time alone with my sister."
"I-I'll make tea!" Hooty exclaimed, shooting out from the door, and bursting through the kitchen window, followed by a loud cluttering of sound and making a mess that Eda just knew she'd have to clean up later.
Lilith looked entirely too pleased with herself as Eda stepped aside to let her enter. Lilith glanced around the house, and perched herself on the couch she used to have to sleep on, crossing her legs as she did so. "Luz is at school today?"
"How'd you tell? The fact that it was a weekday, or the lack of noise?" Eda snarked, snorting at her own joke as she joined her sister.
Lilith sighed in mild disappointment, "And here I was hoping we could exchange notes about our independent glyph studies."
Eda groaned, rolling her eyes, because of course that is something her sister would want to do after visiting for the first time in forever. "She still gives lessons, you know. Even dragged a new student into it."
Lilith nodded, "Hunter, right? Hooty wrote about him. I'm glad she's making new friends and getting a chance to teach others all about her glyphs."
"Yeah. You might see his bird around here. Luz said something about him having some issues at home, so his Palisman has been living in our rafters. Little bugger keeps stealing twigs from my nest to make his own, and keeps making eyes at Owlbert. Can't tell if it's a territorial thing, or a romantic thing, but either way Owlbert's not into it." Eda cackled.
Before Lilith could comment on that, Hooty burst in through the door, a tea tray in his mouth that he set down on the coffee table, "Hooty's famous homemade tea, just the way you like it, best buddy!" He screeched.
Lilith reached out and petted his face, cooing once more over him, "You are such a gem, Hootcifer. I've missed having you around."
She took a sniff of the air, "Ooh, are you baking something?"
Hooty nodded enthusiastically, his entire body wriggling as he did so, "Yup! My homemade cookies! I'm the home that makes them, which is where they get the name! I'll be right back!" He slithered out of the room, hooting happily as he did so.
Eda poured herself a cup of tea, and took a sip, "You two really need to get a room, sis."
"Edalyne, please." Lilith laughed, playfully waving her sister's implications off, "I'm just happy to see my good friend."
Together they sat and drank their tea together, making small talk. "How's living with the parents going?" Eda asked shortly into Lilith's stay. Between the two of them, she always thought she'd be the one who'd have to move back in with her family, if just to get a break from Hooty. She never thought her successful sister would be the one to do it. And she liked Hooty, so she didn't even have the excuse of getting away from him.
"Oh, it's been… eventful. It's taken some getting used to, and we've had to set some boundaries. Mom sometimes likes to act like I'm still a teenager, you know how she gets." Lilith smiled gently, sipping at her drink.
Eda shifted in her seat, hiding her face behind her teacup, "And Dad?"
Lilith froze, then reached out gently to place a hand on Eda's forearm, "He misses you. You should really visit him sometime. You're not to blame for what happened."
Eda nodded, setting aside her drink, "I know that now. Technically, you're the one to blame."
Lilith flinched, but didn't object to that and allowed Eda to continue, "But that's all water under the Troll Toll bridge, now. I- I should visit. I've just been putting it off for so long now…"
Eda bit her lower lip as she thought back to the last time she'd seen her father. It was the night she'd slashed out his eye after partially transforming into the Owl Beast. "I stopped blaming myself years ago, but by then, it'd been a decade since I'd seen him, and it just felt like it'd be awkward. Then a decade turned into two, and now we're going on three, and it just never seemed like the right time."
"There's no time like the present," Lilith urged, sending her sister a smile. "And I'm sure he'd love to meet your little family, too."
"He'd just love Luz. And he'd spoil King rotten!" Eda agreed, grinning ear to ear, and mentally making plans to give her father just the chance to do so.
"He is technically Dad's only grandchild, if we're not counting Luz, which we should be." Lilith teased, then added, "Where is King, anyway. I haven't had the chance to congratulate him on his new name. I'm sure he'll do the Clawthorne family proud."
"I'm sure he'll be down here the moment the cookies are done."
Sure enough, a few minutes of conversation later, Hooty distributed a platter of cookies out to join their tea, and the sound of King's scurrying feet echoed through the house as he launched himself onto the coffee table to pick the biggest cookie for himself.
"King, we have a guest" Eda tried and failed to hide her smirk at her adoptive son's antics.
King perked his head up, gazing around the room. "Weh? Where?"
Lilith stomped a foot testily, "Right here!"
King blinked, "Wait, when did Lilith even leave?"
"I moved out over seven weeks ago!"
"That's news to me!" King opened his may and stuffed a cookie whole down his throat, then hopped up on the couch and curled up in Eda's lap.
Lilith scoffed, "Your child is so rude, Edalyne, and you don't even scold him."
Eda shrugged, "I'll start handing out time outs when you start making up for back rent."
Lilith was quick to change the subject, "So, enough about me, Eda, tell me about you! How has life been since I moved out?"
Eda opened her mouth to speak, but found herself hesitating. There wasn't a lot that had happened that Lilith likely already hadn't heard about from Hooty, and she wasn't really in the mood to tell her sister about her reuniting with Raine. As far as she knew, Lilith didn't even know how deep her past relationship went anyway, it'd been little more than a schoolgirl crush before Lilith left to join the Emperor's coven, and they hadn't been in touch when the two were actually dating..
King took her moment of silence to fill Lilith in himself, "Well, we had this really weird day at the Market last week. Everyone was acting all funny, and Eda was bickering with that Golden Guard guy you all seem to hate."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah," Eda admitted, "It was about the Day of Unity stuff. I got all up in his face trying to get some info about it, but he was as tight lipped as Belos himself."
Lilith frowned, leaning against the armrest. "I wish I could give you some answers, but Belos played things close to the chest while I was head of his coven. I knew a few scant details. From what I know, he had a plan to tell all of the Coven heads at once his true intentions, and he likely has already if the day is soon approaching."
Eda nodded, remembering that Raine had tried to tell her what Belos was up to before they were taken. Raine would know, but now they were out of Eda's reach, likely hidden away in some secret prison only a few of Belos' most loyal would know of…
Well, that gave Eda ideas, "Say, Lily, did Belos happen to have any secret prisons anywhere that I wouldn't know about?"
Eda finished catching Lilith up to speed about the BATs and how Raine was their now-captured leader. As it turned out, Belos did have one place that fit the bill, deep inside the bowels of his own fortress. They just needed a way inside.
"We'll have to set out sometime early tomorrow morning, if we want to make this work," Lilith suggested, the news that Eda had once had a somewhat stable romantic relationship probably being the weirdest part of this conversation for her, despite it being about breaking into the Emperor's own palace.
"I'll go too!" King volunteered. "You'll need an amazing army, which only I can provide!" He lifted his trusted general, Francois up, shaking the fluffy bunny doll furiously up and down to show off his fighting prowess as the doll's arms flailed.
"No, King. You'll need to stay here. Keep a watch over the house, and let Luz know where we are and what we were doing if we don't come back." Eda insisted, not trusting Hooty to be able to fill Luz in properly, and not wanting to drag any more children into her fights.
"B-but you'll need my awesome new powers!" King insisted.
Lilith shook her head, "If things go according to plan, we shouldn't need to fight at all."
"We won't?" Eda and King asked at the same time, earning an eye roll from the elder Clawthorne.
"No, we'll be sneaking in. We couldn't hope to win against the entire Emperor's coven, including Belos himself, with an army, much less just the two of us. We're nearly powerless, Eda, so we have to be smart about this."
She stood from her seat, making for the door, "I'll continue to make the plans at home, and meet you back here and sunrise tomorrow. Be ready, Edalyne."
She opened the door, and started to leave, as Hooty bawled over his missed chance to visit his best buddy. Lilith tried to calm him, "I'll be back tomorrow Hootcifer. And if all goes well, you'll have a new friend staying here at the Owl House for a little while." At this comment, she looked back at her sister and shot her a wink.
Eda crossed her arms, refusing to blush, or even acknowledge her sister's attempt to rile her up over Raine and the possibility they would have to stay with Eda from now on. She wasn't going to fall for that, not in a million years-
"Why's your face all red, Eda?"
"Quiet, King."
It was Sunday night when Lucia decided to have her talk with her mother. She'd spent all of yesterday with Vee, comforting her and cheering her up, though her mood was still very much at an all time low even a day after she'd opened up. Lucia couldn't blame her. Vee carried that much trauma and sadness, and that was just one life over the past eight years, and she had literal countless others going back as far as she could remember all weighing down on her. There were no therapists for Changelings, with all of them stuck as eternal children, unable to cope with their reality in any way but to deny their pasts.
It made so many of Lucia's own problems feel insignificant, but she knew in her heart that wasn't true. It did give her the courage to stop feeling sorry for herself and try to seek help, though.
She'd waited until Vee had gone to sleep, and made her way to her mother's room, which was open. Peeking inside, Lucia could see Camila sitting at her own little desk, filled with paperwork and bills, her mother scribbling away at something that must be important, or kept the lights on.
Lucia pursed her lips, not wanting to bother her already overworked mother with her problems, especially if she was busy with something important, but then silently cursed herself. She was making excuses to not do something, and Lucia never ran away from anything… Which is what partially got her into this mess.
She forced herself to knock on her mother's doorframe, startling the older woman. Camila turned away from her work to look back at her visitor, blinking tiredly behind her glasses, "Yes, Mija?"
Lucia sucked in a breath. She didn't want to do this. But she had to. It was the right thing to do if she wanted to fix her relationship with Amelia. "Can I talk to you for a minute, Mom?"
For a moment, Camila seemed like she was going to dismiss her daughter. She clearly had paperwork to do, and she was already tired, but something steeled in her eyes, a flash, a memory of the last time she'd tried to downplay something Lucia had to tell her and how that had gone, and instead motioned for Lucia to enter her room.
Gulping, Lucia did so, sitting at the end of her mother's bed, the only available seat left for her to take with the desk chair occupied. She felt insecure and a little humiliated about what she was about to talk about, and lingered about, not saying anything until the awkward silence stretched for too long. "Lucia, what's wrong?"
"Promise you won't be mad at me?" Lucia said quickly, then winced. That sounded like something a toddler would say when they made a mess they knew they couldn't get away with.
She tried again, "What I mean to say, is… I need advice. But that means talking about something you probably won't approve of, and is really embarrassing to talk about…"
Camila reached out and laid a hand on her daughter, "oh, mija, you can tell me anything…"
Her eyes narrowed, "Wait, you're not smoking, are you? Or doing drugs? Lucia Noceda, did you join a gang?"
Lucia groaned loudly, and buried her face in her hands, "No, none of the above, Mamá."
"Good. Now, you were saying?"
Lucia muttered to herself, then tried to explain how things happened without getting into the supernatural bits. Her mother didn't need to know about that, and was best left in the dark about those particular nighttime activities. "Two nights ago, on Friday… I snuck out."
Camila looked like she wanted to say something to express her disapproval, her nostrils flaring in a way Lucia was intimately familiar with, but she bit back anything she wanted to say until her daughter could finish.
"I met up with Amelia. We hung out for a bit. We didn't intend or plan anything, but I ended up walking her back to her place at the end of the night and she… invited me to stay. And I did." Lucia could feel her cheeks heat as she crossed her arms over her chest and avoided her mother's eyes.
Camila may have an absolutely amazing lack of imagination, but even she could pick up on what Lucia was saying by not saying what she'd done. "Oh, dear…"
Now that it was out there, Lucia's resolve started to break, the corners of her eyes getting wet. "It was too soon, and I think we really messed up, Mom, and I don't know how to fix it," She choked out.
"Oh, baby, come here." Camila rose from her seat and wrapped her daughter in a soothing embrace. She couldn't understand everything her daughter was going through, but she did understand heart ache, and what it was like to deal with it. Knowing her daughter, she hadn't allowed herself a proper cry, feeling she had to remain tough, but Camila wasn't going to have any of that, patting Lucia's back to get her to let out her sorrow in the safety of her mother's arms.
Lucia let herself cry, feeling like a child cradled in her mother's embrace. Together they stayed like that until she got it out, not feeling better exactly, but at least she wasn't on the brink anymore.
Camila stroked her daughter's hair, thinking of anything she could say, "I-I know you're feeling overwhelmed, and you did move quickly. It can be hard, holding back all your feelings for someone you love-"
Lucia sniffled, frowning at that word. "Mom, I… we haven't-"
Camila nodded in understanding, "You haven't said that to each other yet? I can't blame you, mija, and there's nothing wrong with not having said it. It's only been a few months, it's still so early in your relationship, and everyone feels comfortable saying it at different times."
She hummed, "I didn't tell your father I loved him until we'd been together for almost six months. Your aunt told your uncle she loved him in half that time, though, and they've been together for over a decade."
Lucia silently stared off into space, deep in thought. "And what if I don't know if I love her?" She murmured, low enough Camila could barely understand what had been said.
"That's okay too, mija." Camila assured her. "You're still young. Still figuring everything out. Dios mio, you only learned you even liked women halfway through the summer, sweetie. You'll know, one day, and if you do love her, I'm sure your relationship will only grow stronger. And if you don't, there are plenty of other gorgeous women out there."
She pressed a kiss to the top of her daughter's head, "I'll be here to support you, no matter what happens, mija. But, if you want my advice, I think you need to be open and honest with Amelia. Even if you don't know if you love her, you still like her. You still want to be with her, or else you wouldn't be here, asking for advice, right?"
Lucia nodded, "Ye-yeah, I do. I really do like her Mom, she's just… amazing. And fun. And smart."
She blushed as she realized she was beginning to ramble a little. "I'll talk to her. Tomorrow. And.. I'm sorry if I've disappointed you, Mom."
Camila took Lucia by the hands, "You could never disappoint me. You're mi hija, and nothing you could do would make me feel that way."
She smiled teasingly, "Though, I will admit, I'm relieved that your interests seem to lie with women. This could have been a very different conversation if you had unplanned sex with a boy, you know. I'm far too young to be a Grandmother!"
Lucia scoffed and rolled her eyes, "Mooom!"
"That reminds me, I'm going to have to get you a health booklet. I know you don't intend to have a repeat of the other night anytime soon, but that doesn't mean there aren't things you should know, and I want you to be safe."
"Mom!"
Lucia sat upon the bleachers by the football field of her school, watching a bunch of burly guys in clunky uniforms practice throwing a ball around. She didn't really get it, but she really was more of a baseball person anyway.
Beside her sat her phone, a recent text in her chat to Amelia asking to meet her there. They hadn't really spoken over the weekend, and for once, Lucia was glad. She had needed the space. If they hadn't, she'd probably have said something dumb and messed things up even worse.
That didn't mean she wasn't worried about how their talk was going to go. Just because she had figured it out, didn't mean Amelia would still want to go out with her. The idea of Amelia breaking up with her was a scary one, but she had faith that they'd walk away stronger together, rather than shatter apart.
"This seat taken?" The voice she'd been waiting to hear asked, and Lucia glanced beside her to see her girlfriend. She wasn't sure if Amelia had done an extra good job with her makeup today, or if she'd just looked radiant in the sun, but she stole Lucia's breath away.
The Latina girl patted the spot beside her on the bleachers, cooled from the autumn breeze even after being in the sun all day. Halloween was approaching, as was Luz's birthday, and she'd yet to get her sister a gift, much less a cover one for Vee. That was a concern for another time though.
Amelia set her backpack aside and sat beside Lucia, "So, what are you doing out here?"
"Oh, trying to enjoy the view," She gestured to the football players, still doing their drills. "Been a while since I've thought about my orientation, and what it is exactly. Gotta say… I don't see the appeal."
Amelia smirked, "Yeah, guys are big, and brawny, and kinda smell. I've always preferred a woman's touch. Much softer, smoother, prettier. And they know about scented lotions." She gave Lucia a knowing look, and the girl had the decency to blush a little, having put on a bit of the coconut scented lotion she knew Amelia liked before their meeting.
"No offense to Luz, I just don't see the point in wanting to date a guy when you have a very pretty girl by your side." Lucia said lightheartedly, then pursed her lips. As much as she liked to joke, that wasn't why she was here.
"I'm sorry," She started, reaching out and grasping Amelia's hand. "We clearly weren't ready for that step, and… I'm sorry."
Amelia shook her head, squeezing Lucia's hand back, "Don't be. Or, don't blame yourself alone. I'm the one who invited you inside, after all. I knew what I was doing."
"It takes two to tango," Lucia agreed.
The two sat for a while, holding hands and pretending to watch the football players practice. Lucia opened her mouth, struggling to find the right words she wanted to say, only to close it again. She repeated this a ridiculous amount of times, but Amelia remained patient, and eventually Lucia was able to find her words. "There's something I feel like I should have said, should have told you, before we did that together. Like a missing step. And I'm not ready to say it, anymore than I was ready to jump into bed with you."
"I… I think I know what that is." Amelia leaned her shoulder against her girlfriend's, then rested their heads against one another. "You can't say it, because you want to mean it. And right now you don't."
Lucia sputtered, "it's not that I don't… love you. I just don't not love you? Or I don't know if I do….n't? If that makes sense?"
Amelia closed her eyes, "It does, don't worry. And I can wait for you to mean it. As long as you want."
Lucia's eyebrows shot up, a tingling shock coursing through her, "Wait, does that mean you-"
Amelia placed a finger to Lucia's lips, "Shhhh. You'll just have to find out if or when you're ready to tell me."
Lucia smiled, and pressed her weight against Amelia, who leaned against her in turn, a warm feeling in her chest. She wasn't sure she if could call it love, not yet, but damn if she didn't want to find out.
"This wasn't exactly what I had in mind," Eda whispered at Lilith as she clumsily made her way down one of the many hallways of the Emperor's palace, nearly knocking over every vase and bumping into every wall in her path. "How do you even see in these things?"
The two witches were disguised in a pair of Emperor's coven uniforms and masks to hide their faces and identities. Lilith, having been used to wearing a standard guard mask for over a decade when she first joined the coven, was unphased by how much it blocked her vision, marching down the hall in a way that made her truly indistinguishable from every other guard they passed.
"Eda, I swear, if you get us caught…" Lilith spit through clenched teeth, having to cover for her sister multiple times already, telling everyone that she was escorting her companion to a healer after a head injury had impaired them.
It was only a matter of time before that excuse eventually stopped working, and they were so close to their destination.
Eda straightened her clothes after picking herself off the floor for the dozenth time, irritated not just by the mask, but by the misshapen size of the outfit. It clearly wasn't a woman's outfit, and the pant leggings were short enough they exposed her ankles. "Where did you even get these things? They certainly aren't one of your old uniforms."
Lilith was so busy keeping a lookout, she wasn't watching her tongue, "Well, Steve left a few at my place after he dropped by-"
She clamped her mouth shut, and Eda stared at her in stunned silence. The elder Clawthorne couldn't see her sister's face, but assumed she was going to mock her at any moment, just as she always would. "Do not judge me, sister, you have no right-"
"Judge?" Eda pointed at her obscured face, "this is the look I give when I'm impressed, Lily. Steve's what, half our age? Mid-to-late-twenties at best? Daaamn. Remind me to give you one of the customary human high fives later to celebrate, because you've got way more game than I gave you credit for."
Lilith was torn, not understanding the feeling inside of her. She had expected to be mocked, and laughed at, but instead had received praise from her sister, yet instead of making her feel better, Eda's approval just made her feel icky.
The two women continued their quest, Lilith now less annoyed by her sister's lack of coordination and more about her endless questions about Steve. From the obvious, like how they met, to the downright embarrassing, like how he was in bed, which she was not going to humor with an answer of any kind.
"Is that what you had meant when you said Mom still treats you like a teenager and you had to set boundaries? Over booty calls?" Eda asked, continuing to fumble down the halls.
"Please, just drop it, sister."
Eventually they found what they were looking for. A staircase that, due to the level of dust and cobwebs, seemed to not get much use. This was where Lilith insisted Belos kept his secret prisoners, the ones he needed alive, and out of the public's knowledge. Careful not to alert anyone to their presence, the two descended down the stairs, taking the only torch with them to light the way, and darken the entry point to make the already easy to miss pathway even less likely to be noticed.
The stairwell went deep, spiraling downward, and for a while the only sound was the clacking of boots on tile("Are you wearing your heels while you're supposed to be in disguise, Edalyne?!" "I always wear my heels!"). They went so far down that they couldn't even begin to imagine how deep they had descended, losing all track of just how far they'd gone.
Finally, the floor bottomed out, leveling into a small chamber with a handful of tiny cells. They offered no privacy, the bars exposing everything, though that didn't exactly matter much when there was only one prisoner housed in the entire complex. Raine was there, standing in the center of their cell, hands, especially fingers, bound together so they couldn't cast any magic. They glared at their visitor, challenging them to do anything that might piss them off.
"I see the Emperor has sent more lackies to get information out of me. You won't have any more luck than the last ones." They sneered defiantly, and Eda had to hold back swoons at such rebellious behavior. It could be hard to believe this was the same Raine Whisper's who used to cry when they got bullied back at Hexside.
"I think we'll be having a bit more luck," Eda said coyly, pulling back her hood and removing her mask, "Did you miss me, Rainstorm?"
Raine gasped out in disbelief, and for a moment their tough facade crumbled as their lip trembled, "You came for me…"
"Sweetie, I never stopped looking," Eda grinned, grabbing hold of the bars and pressing her face between two of them to look her partner in crime over. "How are you? Oh, you remember my sister, Lilith, say hi Lily."
Lilith temporarily discarded her own mask with a sigh, and gave Raine a small wave, moving over to a key rack to find the one that would open Raine's cell.
"I'm alright," Raine shrugged, clearly lying through their teeth, "Some guards came in and poked me with sharp objects. Punched me a bit. But they need me, so they can't exactly kill me."
Eda growled, seething over the idea anyone would hurt someone she cared about. "Don't you worry about that, we're going to get you out of here, and then we'll plan some very sweet revenge back at my place."
Raine nodded solemnly, "How are the others? The BATS?" They inquired anxiously.
"They're in hiding, for now. Well, Amber drops by. Sweet girl. I had to break them out of the conformatorium shortly after you all got captured." Eda filled them in, just as Lilith came back with the keys. The quickly unlocked the cell, and with the bars removed Eda threw herself at Raine, tightly embracing them in a hug, that due to their bound hands, Raine was unable to return properly, though they leaned into it the best they could.
"Edalyne, please move." Lilith requested, and Eda fidgeted, changing her position so her arms were still around Raine's neck, with her hugging them from the side so their hands were exposed for Lilith to free. The bindings fell, and Raine carefully flexed their fingers savoring the ability to move them of their own volition.
"We need to leave quickly," Raine urged, "And I can't be seen."
Lilith tossed another set of robes toward them, which Raine was quick to grab and put on, "This will work, but we still need to be careful. The Emperor, he can control your Coven seals. I tried to fight back when I was captured, tried to escape, but they managed to lock me out of my own body."
Lilith gulped, and rubbed at her own coven seal on her forearm. "We'll be careful. Now, let's get out of here."
A/N: Let's talk Raine for a moment!
I like Raine. Not a lot, but I did like them. I hope we get more to flesh their character out a bit, since I almost left Raine out of the story just due to how short their screen time is.
Yea, you heard me, I almost left Raine out of this fic. How? By setting this entire fic before their debut episode. Then s02e08 happened, and I wanted, no NEEDED to have that canon Lumity goodness added to my fic, so I sat down with my outline and pondered for a week on how I could work Raine into the story in a way that fit with the plot I had already planned out, and how to rewrite a few scenes to reference them.
Then I realized I didn't give Lilith a role, either. So there it was, I could have Lily help Eda get Raine out of jail, and from there Raine could become a central character to the fic as the plot escalated. It was perfect. And I'm very happy I decided to go this route, the next few chapters would seem a lot more empty without Raine in them.
I still sorta ship CamEda more than Raieda, since I want Luz to have both her moms, but I wanted to stick as close to canon, so RaiEda it is for this fic. All aboard the non-binary choo choo train, everybody!
Much like with Eberwolf, if you notice me use the wrong pronouns for Raine, let me know. I did my best to use They/Them, but sometimes I slip up when I'm pounding away at the keyboard and don't notice.
Also, I finally decided to just make Lucia a lesbian. I went back on forth over Lesbian or Bisexual, and ended up settling on lesbian in the end. I wanted her to be a little bit different from Luz in that way. Gives her a bit more of an identity of her own.
I love to hear comments, tell me what you think of the story so far!
