Summer Loving

Sixteen-year-old Buck glared across the river. He wished he could punch the smug smirk off of Eddie Diaz's face.

Eddie was only one year older than him, but he acted so superior. And what really fucking sucked is everything Buck did, Eddie did better.

Eddie's group of five boys was kicking the butts of Buck's group. And if nothing else, Buck hated losing. There was nothing worse than losing in his mind. And he certainly wasn't used to losing.

But, maybe he could turn it around with this game, and his team might stand a chance of winning the camp trophy at the end of the summer.

He turned to face his team, his back to the river. "Okay guys, I know we're down. But we are not out."

Dylan, always the pessimist, raised his hand. "The Blue Sparrows are ahead by three games. There are only five games left. There's no way we're winning."

Buck frowned at him. "Not with that attitude we won't. Guys, we're the Red Herrings. And we have two people on this team that have a lot of kayak experience. And with them leading the charge, we will dominate this round." He looked at his identical twin secret weapons. "Benji, Rob, you two ready?"

Benji and Rob high-fived each other. "Let's do this," they chorused.

Buck nodded, satisfied. "Okay, guys, Benji and Rob are our kayak experts. If they direct you to do something, you do it. No questions. Understood?"

The other three nodded, looking at Rob and Benji for direction.

Benji smiled. "Okay, this is how we're going to play it…"

xXx

Buck couldn't wait to gloat in the counselor's break room. He practically skipped inside when he saw Eddie go in.

"Hey, Eddie, did you see it?" Buck sing-songed with a big grin on his face.

Eddie, the annoying guy he is, didn't rise to the bait as he took a bottle of water from the refrigerator. He simply raised his eyebrows and asked, "See what?"

Buck continued smirking. "My team creamed yours in the kayak race. We are coming for you. Just you wait. It will be my team that gets the camp trophy."

Eddie nodded. "You keep doing that." He then took a sip of water.

Buck lost his smile. He wanted a reaction. Did nothing faze the guy? Ever?! "Fine. Keep playing it cool. I bet you never lose, and I can't wait to see the look on your face when you lose. It's going to be sweet. I'm going to have my camera just so I can take a picture of it. And I'll have the picture forever. And I'll have eternal bragging oomph—"

Buck's swallowed his next words by cool, soft lips covering his own lips.

Eddie Diaz was kissing him. And it was a very, very nice kiss.

Buck thought about what he could do. He could push him away. Maybe punch him for being so presumptuous and assuming Buck was interested. (Even if he was.) Or he could kiss back. And just as he settled on the third option, Eddie pulled away.

"I guess that's one way to shut you up," he snarked.

Buck stupidly blinked. "Shut me up?"

"Well, you do like to hear yourself talk. And it was walking away, covering your mouth with my hand, or kissing you."

"And you chose to kiss me?" Buck asked, still feeling a little slow.

Eddie nodded. "I've never been one for walking away, and if I covered your mouth with my hand, you might have bitten me."

"Could have bitten your lips. Or your tongue," Buck pointed out.

"True, but I was counting on the shock factor to keep that from happening."

"So, you just go around kissing people that you want to shut up?" Buck asked.

"No, I go around kissing people that I want to shut up, but that I also find kind of cute."

Despite himself, Buck found himself blushing. "I'm not cute. Cute is for dogs and other furry creatures."

Eddie touched Buck's wrist. "I think you're very cute."

"You're an irritating know-it-all. That is way too good at everything he does. But I guess I have a thing for irritating know-it-alls." He pressed his lips against Eddie's this time.

Eddie was faster on the uptake and returned the kiss. Their mouths found an easy rhythm as they slowly kissed.

They pulled back when the sound of gravel crunching nearby the break room happened.

"So?" Buck asked.

"So, I'll see you at the next meal," Eddie said and left Buck alone.

Buck was left standing alone in the room, his mouth hanging open. Eddie Diaz was so annoying!

Notes: So, this was actually meant to be a longer one-shot, but as I was writing, this kind of felt like a natural stopping point. Now, unlike Doctor Buck, I don't know if I will revisit this story or not. So for now, I'm marking it as complete.

Let me know if you think this should be continued, though, and if it is continued, what would you like to see?
