greenarrow679: I understand where you're coming from, but I did that as a development for Yagi. Many other Fanfics about the character being 'quirkless' MC hates pro-heroes for them being fake and stuff, especially the villain deku stories. I'm trying to make Yagi to see from a different point of view, where even though some of the heroes are jerks, they did good at their job and actually are contributing to society. Yagi just thought that Vigorous only had attitude problem, that's why he had a dilemma. But he wasn't thinking of the bicycle hero when he had the dilemma though.
Anyway, enjoy the new chapter
Aldera...
Genos sat alone in the canteen, alone. Both Yui and Yagi had graduated, and now they're attending to each of their high schools.
It bothered him a bit, but he knew that they can't stay with him forever. It's not like they can't meet with him at a designated time, but being lonesome in this school... it's not easy. It just doesn't feel the same. Whenever something bad happens, it felt like nobody was there to have his back.
But he knew not to rely on his friends too much. Besides, he vowed to grow stronger than he is now. But how will he fare as a third year? No one had his back, no one wanted to be his friends, and it saddened him a bit.
"I guess this is where we part, Toshi, Yui-san.." Genos said sadly. Yagi's expression softened, before lowering his gaze, putting his hand above his shoulders, "Aw, don't be like that. It's not like we're abandoning you."
"Yeah! We'll always have your back, even if we're attending different schools from each other." Yui beamed, as she puts her hand above the young boy's shoulders too.
"Just call my number if you're having any hardships back in Aldera, okay? I'll try to respond, though I'll be a bit busy now that I'm attending the hero course, but I'll try my best to keep myself unoccupied!" Yagi flashed a thumbs up.
Yagi spoke again, "Besides, this is your chance to grow to become an independent person, right? This could be your learning experience. You need to learn to how to defend yourself from bullies, those who discriminate you without remorse."
"I know," Genos nodded, "I will try. I will try not to disappoint you."
"Come on! You're speaking as if I'm your teacher or something! I know you call me sensei occasionally, but I'm your friend, we're your friends. No matter how much you fail, we won't be disappointed. It's part of the progress, right?" Yagi laughed lightly, "Don't worry yourself over it too much. You'll manage, trust me, I believe in you, Genos."
Genos nodded, as little bit of tears began to leak out of his eyes.
"Eh?" Yagi said in concern, "What's wrong? Was it something I said?"
"I'm just.." Genos wiped his tears, but to no avail, as more liquid matter began to take it's place, "I'm sorry for being seemingly so distant ever since..ever since the Subterraneans attacked this city, I just.. I'm scared, I'm scared that you.. you'll die..I can't get it off..the thoughts.."
Yagi's expression softened, as Genos spoke again, "But even though I act like that, still, here you are, trying to comfort me. I don't know if I'm lucky..but I'm..glad that I have you and Yui as my friends.."
Genos looked up to both him and Yui, "Thanks, for everything.."
Yagi slowly smiled, as he suddenly embraced Genos in a tight, warm hug, surprising his younger friend, "Anytime, Genos," He said in a soothing voice, "And I won't die. Not until I finish my goal." He said in determination, "Don't you ever stress yourself over my well being. You don't need to. You have much, much else to think about."
Genos couldn't hold his tears back anymore, as he returned the hug. "Thanks..."
Yui watched them both hug it out, as she let out a playful chuckle, before approaching them both, "I'm not letting you two doofus have all the fun, let me have the bromance moment too!" She said as she threw herself to them, hugging them both tightly.
The three of them laughed slightly, hugging each other for a solid three minutes.
Genos smiled at the memory. It makes him miss them even more. He looked over his bento, barely eating his lunch.
Suddenly, a condescending voice was heard from his behind, "If it isn't little gullible Genos." That familiar voice.
Genos looked back, only to see the brunette feminine student condescendingly looked at him, along with her lackeys.
"How's it feel, being lonely with no one there to accompany you, quirkless bitch?" Tachibana taunted.
Ah yes. Her. Here to make his day even worse than it is already. What does she gain from this anyway? Why is she bent on to see him tormented? Why? Is it because of his quirklessness? Why do they hate him for being quirkless so much? It's not like he had any control over it!
"Why are you doing this?" He asked in a deep voice.
"Eh?" Tachibana asked again, feeling her anger rising, "What's that, you fucking worthless bitch?!"
"I mean, why are you doing this?" Genos asked again, feeling the annoyance built up inside him, "Have I done something wrong? Have I committed countless unpardonable atrocities that you're so eager to see me suffer?"
"Hell yeah you did. You wanna know what crimes you've committed?" The girl snickered, "The fact that you're existing and sitting right in front of us, wasting the very oxygen that we breathe as we speak."
"What, because I'm quirkless?" Genos retorted, immediately standing as he said that.
Everyone stared at him in silence. They never pegged him for the type to fight back, usually he just walk away and brush it off, or get the beating that they thought he 'deserved'.
"You got the nerve..." Tachibana gritted her teeth, clenching her fists.
"I don't know what your problem with the quirkless is, but let me tell you lots something," He pointed at them, "We're just as human as much as you are. You don't have the right to treat us differently." He finished, before walking away.
Suddenly, a force prevented him from walking away. Genos looked back, only to see Kiba stretching both of his hands to the front to hold Genos back with his quirk.
Try as he might, he couldn't break free from it, and now, he has no choice but to let himself be restrained by the fat, black haired kid, "You're not going anywhere, little fungus."
"Are you really going to cause a scene?" Genos asked, "I don't have time to humor you people, I got things to do."
"Oh, like what? Showering yourself in self-pity back at the classroom?" Kiba smirked.
"The teachers-" Genos was interrupted by a malicious laugh coming out from Tachibana, as she said, "You really think they're gonna help you? They won't believe you. No one will. I told you, didn't I? Yagi Toshinori, Yui Ichika, they're gone, no one is on your side now, who's stopping us from putting you in your place for the next year? Quirkless people should stay like the worthless oaf they are."
Kiba then restrained him to the ground, causing it to crack a little bit, as Genos coughed a blood substance into the floor. Even though he could take it due to the endurance built by the intense training regime, he still has no chance against a quirk of the gifted.
"Looks like we're going to teach you a lesson, freak." The goons began to circle around Genos, looking at him with malicious intents, "Take this as a lesson of what happens when you talk back to Tachibana."
Many foots struck into his back, as he winced in pain, coughing blood while passerby walked past them, acting like nothing is happening. Tachibana, after all, is one of the most influential and popular student in the school of Aldera. No one dared to oppose her.
Genos closed his eyes, gritting his teeth as he held the pain caused by his tormentors back, resisting the urge to fight back, for if he did, he could be expelled. There was nothing he could do.
As many minutes passed by, the striking eased a bit. Genos struggled to stand up, before a foot struck him in the nose, causing him to fall straight into his right side, many blood coming out of his nostrils.
Why couldn't he fight back? Even though he did all as Yagi told him? The training regiment...was it even working? There was no difference. He was still weak. How could he expect himself to be able to protect others, when he couldn't even defend himself?
Tears began to stream down his eyes. There was no difference in him, both physically, and mentally.
He was still the weak boy that watched his parents die. Nothing has changed. I'm just a disappointment..
Many others stared down at him, who seemingly tried to hold back his tears. They laughed. You'd think they would crouch and sympathetically apologizes to the blonde, orange eyed boy, but no, they laughed, mocked him, called him all sorts of insults: 'Quirkless', 'Worthless', 'Weak', 'Failure', 'Genetic mistake', thrown all at once to his ears.
Tachibana was the last to stare down at him, as she put her feet above his chest, smirking maliciously, "We own you now, quirkless freak."
Suddenly, multiple teachers came by, dispersing the crowd from Genos, "Move away, move away!"
Tachibana and her goons did as they told, as she spat onto Genos's direction, before walking away.
One of the teachers crouched, shaking his head in disappointment, "You shouldn't have messed with them, now look at you go."
Genos weakly replied, "I didn't...they were...the one.."
"Enough lies. You're coming with us to the principals office, now." The teacher said, as both of them helped him up, walking away from the very slight number of blood staining the very floor of the canteen.
"You're going home." The principal darkly said, "I appreciate your determination as a quirkless student, but challenging multiple gifted students was a mistake on your part. You are suspended for two days, so you can reflect on yourself."
Genos was about to reply, but realised that it will be just a blunder. No one will believe him, and of course, everyone will just take the side of the one who has a quirk. That's all it is with this damned society. Quirks.
He struggled to stand up, multiple blood dripping off his chin, as the principal looked up to him with concern, "And you should get those wounds treated soon. I'll be sure to give those kids a reprimanding."
Only a reprimanding. How fair. Genos darkly scoffed, as he exited the office, slamming the door aggressively.
Kuseno's household..
Kuseno's progress of finishing his project of an artificial limbs and organs was almost done. This project could help many others for the generations to come.
But as proud as he is for his accomplishments, he couldn't help but worry about Genos. The boy hadn't slept very well. Nowadays, he only had a three hours of sleep per day, making it an unhealthy lifestyle.
He wondered what could be troubling him to make him this way. He wanted to ask, but every time he did, Genos would just ignore the question or change into a completely different topic.
His train of thoughts was interrupted when the door opened, revealing Genos with his school bag, already at home.
"G- Genos? Isn't it a bit too earl-" Kuseno then noticed the bruises, and the blood coming out of the boy.
"Genos?!" Kuseno rushed to the young boy's side in worry, "Are you-"
"I'm fine, Kuseno-san, I just..had an accident. I fell..from the stairs." Genos said, lying to the doctor.
Kuseno frowned, "You know, lying to me isn't nice at all."
Genos didn't respond, looking away from his father figure. "Genos." Kuseno put a hand above his shoulder, "I know you're still a bit mad about what I did when the Subterraneans invaded, but please, I care about you. Whatever it is you're thinking about, it's slowly killing you. You can start by telling me what happened back at school, and why you came home so early."
Genos looked like he was holding back his tears, as he spoke, "Just...bullies...Tachibana.."
"The girl you broke up with?" Kuseno asked, and Genos scowled, "There never was even a date to begin with for a break up to happen."
"I know," Kuseno slapped his own forehead in frustration, "I worded it wrong." He then looked at the boy with a serious expression, "Just forget my question, it can wait, let me treat those nasty wounds first."
Genos nodded, frowning as he followed his father figure along..
...
Nana was in front of the household of the Hamuze's, before looking at her phone. The contact who messaged her was Sonic himself, who was a pro-hero of that city's jurisdiction.
Redundant:
10:00 AM:
Is this the woman that requested my aid in the search of the boy named 'Kotarou'?
Nana sighed in annoyance that this man can't remember his contact very well, and that he felt that it was necessary to confirm her identity everytime he messages her.
Me:
10:00 AM:
Okay, seriously, this is the fifth time that you asked me that question this week. Do you not save your contacts? Normal, functional people does that.
Redundant:
10:01 AM:
I do not have time to remember or to save your contact, as I have much more important matters to attend to, but seeing to as I do not have a choice in the matter, and that finding a pathetic little boy is a must for my job as a pro-hero, I am forced to endure your presence and your...talkative nature.
Nana was offended a bit that her son was being called a 'pathetic little boy'.
Good thing I saved his name as 'Redundant'. Being friends with that guy would be obnoxious. Nana sighed, as she typed her next words,
Me:
10:02 AM:
Chat history, dudeee, are you blind or something? You could know that this is me just by looking at the chat historyyyy, for the love of God, asking me that over and over again is starting to get annoying.
Redundant:
10:02 AM:
I deleted our conversation to preserve my device's storage.
S- seriously?!
Redundant:
10:03 AM:
Now if you wish to keep your mouth from running, I have something important to tell you regarding the boy.
Me:
10:04 AM:
Spill the beans, ninja boy, hopefully it's good news tho :)
Redundant:
10:04 AM:
Call me 'ninja boy' one more time and I'll slice your throat open and throw your carcass to be fed to the dogs.
Me:
10:05 AM:
Okay, jeez, that threat was unnecessary. Now can you tell me the news?
Redundant:
10:05 AM:
The boy was found in a sewer. He was skinny, not a single fat can be seen on every inch of his limb. He didn't cooperate, so I decided to knock him out with a dart.
Nana yelped in surprise, first, her son was living in a sewer with barely any food or water, WHY?! Why didn't he trust them? What happened? She wanted to ask, but the fact that she lost contact with them leaves her with but one choice: To go to Saitama Prefecture to check on them. But that would expose her to her son. She can't be near him. Not until that monster dies.
Second, the fact that Sonic harmed her son didn't sit well with her as well. But she knew that it was necessary.
Me:
10:05 AM:
So, both good news and bad news.
Redundant:
10:06 AM:
You dare underestimate my work as a professional?! How could you call it both 'good news and bad news'?! As if you could do any better!
Me:
10:08 AM:
Look, buddy, stop being so full of yourself and think of others sometimes. This isn't about you. Okay, so you found Kotarou, good job! But do you ever think why the boy was so skinny, and how the boy lives in a fucking sewer for a whole month? And the fact that you had to use force to take him in, even though it was necessary, still doesn't sit well with me.
Nana stopped typing, feeling her heart beating faster than before. This guy is just unbelievable.
Redundant:
10:09 AM:
You care for this boy? I thought he was nothing more than a lost boy to you. Is he your son? Why are you so bent to see him helped?
Nana shook her head, before typing again.
Me:
10:09 AM:
Stop making such a stupid assumption. Kotarou was only reported by an acquaintance of mine, and besides, the job of a pro-hero is to save those who needed saving.
Redundant:
10:09 AM:
Hmph, whatever it is, it doesn't concern me. When I bring this problem child back to the family he belongs to, do not bother me ever again.
Me:
10:10 AM:
Wait, just wait a damn minute, that's not what we agreed on!
Redundant:
10:10 AM:
Yes it is. My job is only to find this child and bring him back to his 'parents', nothing more.
Me:
10:11 AM:
Didn't you agree to at least talk to him before you return him? There must be a reason for him to leave and wander around in the sewers.
Redundant:
10:11 AM:
I have an adversary to defeat, and I have enough stress as it is, do not add even more burdens to my shoulders.
Me:
10:11 AM:
Fine, I'll put another pro-hero on duty. Your free to go after you return him, do whatever the hell you want.
Redundant:
10:12 AM:
And the child?
Me:
10:13 AM:
Did you not hear what I just said? Return the boy, while I put another pro-hero on dial to question him.
Redundant:
10:13 AM:
As you wish.
Nana pocketed her phone aggressively, exhaling in exasperation. This man and his pride..
Honestly, one of the most annoying pro-heroes she had ever met.
She inhales, before taking a step into the direction of the Hamuze's doorsteps.
Saitama Prefecture, Bespin District..
Sonic carried the boy above his shoulders eyeing the notes on which he wrote the address of the foster family on. He looked over the boy, before saying, "What a pain in the ass you are, brat, you and him both."
He shook his head in frustration, moving forward as he said, "I should be training right now, yet my duty forces me to do...do...THIS."
He dropped the boy's body aggressively as he stood over in front of the house's doorsteps. He realised his blunder, before shrugging, "Who cares." as he took another step, knocking on the house's door harshly, "Oi, oi, is there anyone home?"
No answer. To be honest, this house gives him the creeps. The withering woods, the decaying chair in front of the door, and the dying leaves scattered everywhere on the...'garden' in front of the house, it didn't seem like a normal household. The fact that the apparent owners of this house aren't answering his calls doesn't help at all.
The aura of creepiness reminds him of...of...
Sonic brushed the thought off, before knocking on the door again.
"I got your brat back, mind opening the door? I don't have all the time in the world." Sonic said, as he sniffed the air. There it is. The smell. A smell of odd, iron-ish scent.
What was that? He sniffed again, and there it was again. "Something suspicious is definitely happening." Sonic rubbed his chin, as he tried to open the door, to no avail.
Great, the door was locked. Where was even the owners? This is definitely a waste of his fucking time. He could just leave the boy out in the front, but his duty as a pro-hero prevents him from doing so. For Christ's sakes, why was he even doing this in the first place?
He sighed, as he shown no hesitation to bring the force of his foot forward, knocking the withering wood away.
The scent, suddenly turned into stench. A stench of death, a stench of a decaying dead body. Sonic almost gagged, as he pinched his nose in disgust, "W- what the hell?!"
He looked back, only to see that the boy was still unconscious. He switched his gaze to the source of the stench again, still pinching his nose.
"Fuck, this complicates the damn problem even more." Sonic grumbled. Before he can try to investigate, suddenly, a hand grabbed him.
He looked back in shock, unsheathing his blades, "You wanna have a go-?!"
Sonic stopped as he saw that it was just the boy, grabbing onto him, "..." He didn't say anything, as he sheathed his blade.
"Take me away from here," Kotarou pleaded with red eyes, "Before I go insane."
Sonic raised his brow, but his questions were answered indirectly when he noticed that everything started decaying at a slow pace.
"I hate this place, I hate everything about this place, I HATE IT!" Kotarou screamed, as he fell into the floor again, as everything decayed faster than before.
Sonic grabbed the kid away, rushing outside as the house crumbled into pieces.
"Why.." The kid grit his teeth in anger, "Why did you bring me back here?"
"What do you think?" Sonic answered, "I'm just doing my job. Besides, I'm not obliged to care about your mental health."
Kotarou stood there, still shaking a bit, before saying, "At least... you're not like those hero pretenders that plagues our world.."
"Whatever you say." Sonic dismissed him, before saying, "I was supposed to drop you off to your 'foster parents', but now that whatever your quirk did to that house, it complicates the problem even more, not to mention the horrible smell that came out of the house. You're a burden, a pain in my neck, you know that, right?"
"Then go away, you don't need to tend to me. I never asked for your help." Kotarou shooed him away, but he shook his head, "Unfortunately, I don't have a choice either. It's my duty."
"So you're doing this for the money." Kotarou replied, though not in a negative manner. Sonic shook his head unexpectedly, "Nah, just complying to the damned laws. Anymore wasteful questions?"
"Who sent you?" Kotarou asked one more time, "I know that you didn't just wander off to a random sewer just because."
"Just a nobody hero calling herself-" Sonic then remembered that he was not supposed to mention her name, for whatever reason it was.
"Who?" Kotarou asked in suspicion. Sonic didn't care about his blunder, so he continued, "Just a pro-hero."
"What was her name? You were going to mention it." Kotarou asked. Sonic sighed, "None of your business. All that matters, is that I'm doing the helping, and you can shut the fuck up until my job is done. I'm done talking, I need to report this." He said while bringing his phone.
Every contact he had, he showered them with the million dollar question: 'Is this the woman who calls herself Shimura Nana?', all of them replying with an annoyed response, indicating that they had enough of his idiocy.
Then, finally, he got the right number.
Me:
10:50 AM:
Is this the woman who calls herself 'Shimura Nana'?
Sonic didn't bother to remember her, as she didn't matter that much to him.
Unknown Number:
10:53 AM:
Answer yourself, idiot. I'm in the middle of something here, so unless you have something important to tell me, then bug off.
What a load of jerkoff, this woman is. She's starting to get on his nerves. He then decided to leave write an essay concerning the interesting things he learned from the household of the foster family.
Me:
10:57 AM:
Good thing for you then, because I have something important to tell you. The foster family you mentioned, the second I stepped into their doorsteps, I found several materials of the house decaying off, as well as the garden in front of it. One more thing that I noticed, is the scent of iron. When I entered, however, the scent turned into a burning, disgusting stench of a dead, decaying body. I didn't have the chance to investigate. The boy freaked out for some reason, before the house began to crumble slowly. I got him out of harm's way (You're welcome), and as it seems, he hated everything about that place. I don't have any idea where his foster parents are. I have a suspicion that they're dead at the time the boy was missing, as they didn't even report anything before you came along, but I don't have any evidence yet. And for your information, I'm putting him in the nearest police station, while you get that pro-hero, whoever and whatever they are, to come to the boy's aid. I will be waiting for your response.
As Sonic finished, he turned his attention to the boy, who was still shaking to the very bones of his body.
"Are you not fond of that place?" Sonic asked for some reason to get rid of his boredom. "W- why do you ask? It's not like you care or anything." Kotarou said bitterly.
Sonic chuckled, "You're right, I don't care, I just need to kill some time to get rid of this all encompassing boredom."
Kotarou sighed, "I just have..bad experiences in there."
"And that freaks you out?" Sonic raised his brow.
"Yes. It does. Not everyday that you find a little kid with a background of domestic abuse." Kotarou scowled.
"So they did bad things to you." Sonic replied.
"Did you not hear what I just said?" Kotarou asked in annoyance. Sonic then was reminded to himself, and the traumatic experience that he had a month ago. That kid. The eerie of his facial expression when he read his movements. Everything about it freaked him out.
"No, not right here." Sonic reprimanded himself in a whisper, before clearing his throat, "You know, I get what you're feeling, though not that much. Just try to...face the thing that freaks you out, train your mental health." He said.
Kotarou replied with a slight low tone, "Ah. I'll take your words into.. consideration. Anyways, I need to go."
"I'll let you go after she replies." Sonic emphasized, before looking away.
Kotarou stared at him for a moment, as he sighed. It's no use trying to fight him. He's too fast, and he'd get knocked out again by one of his darts, and the experience wasn't pleasant at all.
As they finished conversing with each other, they awkwardly stood by each other, the ninja waiting for his fellow pro-hero to answer.
Sonic's phone buzzed, as he removed it from his pockets, to check the contents of the messages sent by Nana.
That's all for today's chapter! You may notice that Yagi didn't make an appearance other than in a flashback. That's because I was trying to focus on other characters for a bit before going back to Yagi. He will be back in the next chapter. Stay tuned for the next chapter!
TO BE CONTINUED!
