Whatever Lucy could have imagined awaited her at the hotel paled in comparison to the reality. She didn't know where to look first. The piles of cups and empty bottles, the random junk, or maybe the sword sticking out of the wall. "What the hell happened last night?"
"That's the problem." Gray winced. "We don't actually know."
Lucy took a deep breath, trying her best to remain calm and rational. Digging into her purse she pulled out the pen and notepad she always kept on her person as a reporter. "Start from the beginning."
"We got in-" Gray started
"What time?"
"Uh, eightish." Loke scratched at his chin. "Then we upgraded to the villa instead of the suite."
"Why?"
Gray side eyed Loke. "Loke said the two bedroom suite didn't have enough beds."
"Of course." Lucy rolled her eyes. "Then what?"
"We all picked rooms. Got ready, left around nine for the hotel bar." Gray continued
"And then?"
"Got seats. Sent Natsu to the bar to get a bottle for the table." Loke let out a groan. "Then it's just a blur."
"Anything else?'
"Oh, almost forgot." Gray shook his finger at Loke. "Loke was texting some contact of his about having the best bachelor party ever."
Lucy clenched her fists. "Oh my god. Was this about drugs? Were you buying drugs?" She hissed at him.
Loke held his hands up in defense. "I swear. It was nothing like that."
Lucy gave him one last glare. "Well either way we need to get a hold of this contact, see if they know anything."
Loke gave a nervous chuckle "About that…."
Gray pinched the bridge of his nose. "Your contact's already here isn't she?"
"In my defense. We were going out drinking." Loke tried to explain
"That at least explains why Cana's here." Gray motioned towards where Cana was seated on the couch. "Loke this was supposed to be a boys night out for Jellal."
"Cana's practically one of the boys."
"And I can drink all of you under the table."
Lucy waved her notepad at Gray and Loke. "Back on track. When did she get here?"
"Actually." Gray looked up as he thought over the previous night. "I don't remember Cana being here at all until we woke up this morning."
"Huh." Loke fiddled with his sunglasses, "I know I remember that I texted her, so I knew she was coming, but now that I think about it, I don't actually remember her meeting up with us either."
Cana looked up from her cup of coffee. "Well you were all pretty destroyed by the time I got there."
"Who all was there?" Lucy had her notebook back in her hand, taking notes.
"The two of them," Cana motioned towards Gray and Loke, "Jellal, Natsu."
"And what time was that?"
Cana squinted as she tried to remember. "Around ten I think."
"Okay." Lucy turned towards her. "Then what happened?"
"Uh." Cana crossed her arms over her chest, chewing on her lip. "I don't know."
"Come on Cana." Gray pleaded with her. "No matter how crazy things get, out of all of us, you always remember."
"Yeah, I just," Cana ran her hand through her hair, "I don't know."
"Cana." Loke took a seat next to her, using both hands to cup her face, gazing into her eyes. "You are the most gorgeous, sexy, and remarkable woman I have ever met. Now I know if you concentrate we can make this happen."
Cana arched an eyebrow at him. "You really think a pickup line is gonna jog my memory?"
"For fucks sake." Gray dragged his hands down his face.
"It's all I've got right now okay." Loke whined. "Pick up lines and fantastic bone structure."
"You really do have great bone structure." Cana patted Loke's cheek.
"Thank you."
"Pick up lines could use some work though."
"Okay." Lucy rolled her eyes. "Back to the whole remembering thing."
"Right." Cana closed her eyes, brow furrowed in concentration. "Um. We were at the hotel bar. Like I said, everyone was already pretty destroyed."
"Hey there boys!" Cana tossed her hair over her shoulder, flashing them a sly grin. "The party has officially started."
"Cana!"
Loke pulled her into the booth between him and Gray. "You're actually here!"
She let out a mock gasp at the bottle on the table. "Did you start without me?"
"They told me to get a bottle." Natsu leaned heavily against the table, slurring his words.
"In that case." Cana placed her hand on the neck of the bottle. "May I?"
"Whatever the lady desires." Loke narrowly missed sending the bottle flying as he swept his arm out.
"You should know by now." Cana downed the bottle in one go. "I'm no lady."
"That's my girl!" Loke slapped his hand on the table. "Didn't I say I had a contact who knows how to party."
Gray leaned in drumming his hands against the table top. "The three amigos back together again!"
"Now we can hit the town."
"I drank the rest of a bottle, and…" She balled up her hands into fists, as though through sheer strength of will alone she could force the memories back. Finally she relaxed them, giving a sigh of defeat. "That's it. Nothing until this morning."
"You really don't remember? "Gray ran his hands through his hair. "Shit."
"Yeah, it's, really weird." Cana groaned, rubbing her temples, "Why can't I remember?"
"Listen, I'm not gonna be angry," Lucy paused, "Nope that's a lie. I will be angry, but I need to know." She leaned forward, hands clasped. "Did you bring drugs?"
"Fuck no." Cana let out a laugh. "I know better than that with these light weights. And besides," she shrugged, "I don't do drugs, especially not when I'm going out somewhere."
"Alright we need to retrace your steps. Gray put your pants on, and Loke," Lucy rolled her eyes, "your shirt's on backwards, and inside out."
"Ah." Loke shrugged off his shirt, pausing after he flipped it right side out. "Huh."
"What?"
"I don't think this is my shirt, but" Turning it in his hands he showed the rest of them the front. "It might be a clue."
Emblazoned on the front were the words 'Lamia Scale'
"Alright." Lucy started heading to the door. "Let's go."
